the saved files may have been erased or corrupted.

From my experience with ringdroid, my bet is that those files got corrupted. It's happened twice so far after I made my ringtone with it. It hasn't happened in a while, but in any case, I have it backed up on my pc.

[Q] Ringtones not showing on Call Ringtone List

Bit of a strange one.. When I try and set a custom ringtone for a call, I can't because it doesn't show any other than the system defaults but it does show the custom ring tones for all of the notifications such as text/email/system notifications...
Any ideas to why? If there is another topic for this please point me that direction for it?

This was an issue on my Motorola Milestone.
For me all I needed to do was create a folder called “ringtones” (all lower case) and it found them. Haven't had time to put them on the Atrix, but I'm sure it's the exact same procedure...

I have this folder, that's the bizarre bit. They show up under every other status ringtone selection other than the actual ringing tone menu lol?
U should try Ring Extended.. It works for me.. search on the market.
if you are using gingerblur / gladiatrix reboot the phone and you will see the ringtones. these scripts have an option enabled to stop updating some folders on the phone.

This is occuring on a non-rooted phone, and it was fine until I plugged it into the computer and unplugged it again and since I haven't been able to fix it lol.
And I don't want to use an app for a basic system function. I've managed to manually set it through winamp anyway now.
I am experiencing the same issue. I'll use a 3rd party app to assign a ringtone (like ringdroid or mp3 ringtone maker) and it use that ringtone for a while and then magically revert back to the the phone's default ringtone at some point.

Cerberus Caused Loss of Touch Sounds

Hi I installed Cerberus (remote locating software) for my S3. I have CF root, running on stock firmware LG8.
I used a zip to flash Cerberus (from the website) using CWM so I could get extra features which I did about 6 days ago. I tried to use Cerberusapp.com to test if everything is working today and it wasn't responding as it should. The feature I used was take an immediate pic using front camera.
I exited from the webapp and then tried to use the camera and it would open but then I was met with an error message saying Camera: failed or something similar to that and then the camera app would close.
I restarted the phone and camera was working fine. But now the keypad tones when you press back button, menu button, or when you swipe to unlock screen have disappeared.
Loudspeaker works when I play music and other things. Earpiece works when I make calls.
But the splish/splash sounds won't work at all. Also, when I boot the phone up, the sound the accompanies the Samsung animation boot logo doesn't play either.
How do I rectify this? I don't want to reflash with stick f/w through Odin if it can be avoided and if there is of course a simple fix.
Thanks
at a guess the app disables sounds so as not to alert the thief that you are taking photo of them. I would imagine the app developer is your best bet for a solution, but check and see if in system/media the app might of places a .nomedia file or some such disabling file

I think I'll have to e-mail the support team because it doesn't seem like it's intentional.
The keypad tones and sounds have gone but the shutter sound when taking a photo is still there. Also, why would it affect the sound on the boot animation?
Using rootexplorer I've looked through the system/media and other folders but there's no sign of anything that shouldn't be there.
It was all working as expected before this little error occurred. When taking pics using Cerberus the camera wouldn't make a sound but the key press sounds would still make a sound.
Anyway, thanks for your help, I'll give the developer a shout and if nothing can be resolved I might just reflash and do it all over again.

[Q] Cant get contact ringtone to work

Since the other day, whenever a contact phones me,only the default phones ringtone would play-not the one I saved.
This happens on GB/ICS and JB.I can change the contact ringtone and save it,but that makes no difference.
Ive tried all I know and even selecting a different inbuilt .ogg file doesnt change the tone either-whatever default tone plays.
Only thing I think it could be is a .nomedia file problem somewhere on the phone, but Im stumped as Ive reflashed the phone and formatted usb storage and still no joy.

U everytime use same kernel?
Do u test different contacts?
It's only on google/Sim or phone contacts? - Did u test other contects?
Using an app to set the ringtones for each contact or directly via android?

Its on everything(you cant set ringtones for sim contacts btw).Ive tried on all contacts and even created new ones to test-just the same.
Am back on GB,and I noticed that in settings>sound>phone ringtone...when I change the ringtone it still shows "set default incoming call ringtone".I could get the tone I selected shown in that area when I was on ics/jb.....but made no difference.
Ive done wipes on internal and external storage,contacts,media..but still the problems remain.
Gb=siyah 2.6.14
Ics=siyah 4.0.1

Ok that's really strange, never heard about a prob like that.
Last option is to try on stock or another Rom (did u use the same rom on each android versions?)
If this also won't bring a better result I've no idea more atm, sry.
Much success

Yeah it had me stumped also,I farted about for 6 hours trying different roms and kernels/settings.
When I tried my sons sim card in the phone, the tones worked ok.When I tried my sim in his phone, the tones worked. It just seemed that my sim in my phone combo failed.
Anyway my wife found a workaround. She used the music app and set the caller tone through that. She set message tone/notification tone through ringpod app.So now I can get the tones I want.
Cheers
Hey maybe change the ringtone for a contact!RestArt and try it again!
Which Rom do usw?

Duplicates of Notification sound files after flashing FTF

Hi,
I recently flashed FTF so that I have .257 firmware with root. I did not wipe data at the time...
Everything is OK, except that all the sound files found in notifications are in duplicates.
If I go into settings and try to choose a different notification sound, they are all listed in doubles.
Now, not that it matters too much to the functionality of the phone, I would still like to know how to solve it. I have looked inside system files, tried looking through root browser...
I cannot find the folder where they are contained.. I was thinking about going into that folder and deleting all the copies.
Can someone show me/tell me how to navigate there?
Thanks in advance!

thanks for the advice.
Went there, and sure enough I found them.
But in the folder, I do not see any duplicates.
It is only in duplicates in the list of sounds to be chosen from, when I go into Settings > sound > Notification sound ( under system)
Do you (or anyone) know if there is cache that needs deleting or updating?
Settings->Apps->All->Media Storage->Clear data and reboot.

@LordManhattan... Although I am now a little wiser with the directories, unfortunately this did not solve the problem.
It cleared the list of available sounds for notifications for a little while, but it re-populated as duplicates soon after.
It leads me to conclude that there are actually 2 copies of each, but both in different places and/or directories. Using the search function in file explorers do not reveal their places either.
Really mystified... Am I the only one who ended up like this, or am I the only one who realised it, or am I the only one who cares whether there are duplicates?
I don't have duplicates, but I've had it before on my Note. I'm not sure If I did anything about it though, so I can't say I know where the duplicates are. Google "android duplicate notification sounds", and you'll see you're not the only one with this issue.

This thing happen to me on CM10.2 ROM. Have you try search 'notification' while you run the root explorer or similar explorer so if there are any double folder on different place it can be recognized.
I am curious too. I cannot make a try now as I am on rooted stock .257 which not has those problem.
Good luck!

I am too on rooted stock .257, used root browser to search for notifications. Tried different searches, but none have worked (meaning I couldn't find duplicates)
It feels like I have something stuck in between my teeth, and cannot get it out!:silly:

Question Has anyone figured out how to get Google Voice to use a ringtone instead of a notification sound for an incoming call?

I have never had this problem with another device. My Google Voice is set to use data instead of the native phone dialer and that means the app has to ring when someone calls me. Unfortunately this ends up being my default notification sound just repeating endlessly. When I go to the ringtone list, there are no ringtones there, only notification tones to choose from. This is extremely obnoxious and while setting my watch to intercept notifications from Voice is a workaround, it's not ideal.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app to no avail. I did find a video where someone had this problem on a Pixel but they were able to resolve it since the Pixel doesn't limit you to notifications or ringtones in the selection menu, both are readily available. This doesn't seem to be the case with Samsung though.
A possibile workaround is coping app your desired ringtone file into the notification folder from the ringtone folder. I accidentally added all my notifications files to the ringtone folder and they all showed up as possible ringtones so the same could work both ways I assume

I learned this a long time ago, glad it still works. Ever since about android 8 I've had my personal set of tones I prefer so I keep both folders on my PC and every new phone gets them copied to the respective folders
