This may be a newb-ish question, but I was wondering if it's possible and how to make a backup (including kernel) with odin. If not, how would one go about doing so? I have a very nice setup right now with a custom kernel and a heavily modified stock rom that I don't want to lose, but I also want to try out the voodoo lag fix with ext4.
EDIT: If this has been addressed somewhere else, please post a link for me. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Use ROMmanager is has option to backup ROM you can download from the market.
It save your backup image to your internal SD card.
It also comes with clockwork recovery.

My understanding is that rom manager does not backup the kernel. What I really want is a way to create a full backup of my entire phone, not just the rom and apps/settings/etc. It seems to me that odin should be capable of such functionality.
I heard once kernel is on it's on for good and independent of rom somehow.. so only way to get rid of kernel is by pushing it out with another- you should be fine with it, just back up your rom in clockwork

i missed that in your post but yea it doesnt back it up
This is great and all, but I really want a full system dump that I can flash back to my phone when those OH **** moments happen. Kernel and all. I just got odin working, and I really like the idea of being able to load up a full system backup and being back to where I am right now in a matter of minutes.

I don't know of anyway to do what you want to do. Best thing I could say is do a Nandroid back up, that would take care of everything but your kernal. If you screw something up just flash back to stock with odin, flash the rom you were using then restore with nandroid.
This is why questions get posted in the dev section. Devs (AKA the people who know this ****) don't read the q&a section.
Go post it in developer section just make note that you searched and tried asking in Q&A and got no answer.... so you dont get reamed

I can see asking just to have some learning experience with Odin but seriously dont see how backing up everything with Odin is any faster/better than nandroid.
For one restoring with Odin requires you to be hooked up to PC. Nandroid restore can be done from your phone with backup from internal SD card and it takes mins to restore. And you can store your favorite kernel .zip file on internal SD as well and takes like 5 secs to flash.
I rarely, if ever, find myself tinkering with roms and such unless I'm at my computer, and I do keep nandroid backups, but I like the idea of having a comprehensive backup that I can load up and flash quickly. I actually find flashing with odin to be substantially faster than nandroid.
I know we all get to messing around trying to add "cool new feature x" and next thing you know something is hosed. This, to me is why a custom odin backup would be ideal.
I think I will go ahead and ask in the dev section, but thank you guys for the suggestions. Like I said, any help is appreciated.
Alright, I have some weird things going on in my galaxy tab. I think its bricked, but if it is, its definitely only soft bricked.
Figured I'd post a video showing stuff as I cant really explain it. It shows up in my windows, so i can access inside it, but i have no idea what to do, it shows up in Kies, too
I'm wanting to hopefully make it usable, and if not usable AT LEAST get rid of clockwork mod recovery so I can return it!
So how do i fix my tab?
(note i was following the samsunggalaxytabhacks unrooting guide when I did this, I cant link b/c new
7510, btw
did you flash anything prior to this happening? I ask as I used the wrong kernel one time, one that wasn't for TW and when I rebooted it did the exact same thing... Did you make a backup?
Try to d/l one of the custom roms, since kies can see it, place the zip on sdcard and follow the OP to install it.
yeah im pretty sure i used the 3g model/non touchwiz kernal and this happened! i cleared m device, thinking it would fix it i guess i lost my backup!
go to roms section on 10.1 android development, and look for the correct kernel, transfer to sdcard via kies and go to recovery and reflash kernel for the TW. Or just d/l Tasks/Phantoms rom Paris and do the same, follow the OP to a T, that should fix it.
which one would be the right one?
I would use

There is a very good walkthough on putting your 7510 back to stock (first step I would suggest). This walk through gives you all the files you need. I have tested this (files include tested pit files, rom files, etc..)
Hope this helps...

Phone: Verizon Samsung Fascinate (sch-i500)
rooted using Odin and a guide on these forums specific to the phone
rom Manager flashed for Samsung GalaxyS i9000 recovery: 2.5.1.2
I need 3.0.0.8 (downloaded from the rom manager site)
1) Is this a problem?
2) the file I have (3.0.0.8 CWM recov) is a .zip, using Odin can I flash it as recovery. If so what button? (PDA was for rooting, I don't want to rush into things and do the same)
I plan on flashing a custom rom, but feel I need to fix my recovery mod FIRST.
If I can fix this with a kernal say so and I will find one.
P.S. I will not be paying for mobile odin, I would go back to stock or leave as is before putting out a penny to this phone.
edit: Instead of the "CWM 2.5 red recovery" i had from the root (i might be a little stupid...) I now have a blue recovery and the buttons are different. Is there a way to revert to "CWM 2.5 red recovery"
ROM Manager is a complete waste of time with this phone. It won't work. Droidstyle's Guide is the only way to to go.

that's the guide I used for rooting my device.
I'll read through it again thanks
Yeah, the guide also covers the correct way to flash custom ROMs, recoveries, and kernels. You'd have to read way back in the forums, but you'd find that the ROM Manager discussion was conclusive. It simply doesn't work for the SCH-1500. The good news is that flashing via CWM and Odin, as you'll learn, is quite easy. You just have to do things exactly as Droidstyle describes. 99% of the rooting problems you'll read about in these forums have more to do with incorrect flashing techniques than they do with with devs' coding errors.
New to this - I really apologize if this has been covered before but I've been searching all evening and not coming up with a definitive answer.
What's the easiest way to remove a custom recovery (like twrp) and go back to stock? Still on the stock rom, just have custom recovery. I manually deleted a nandroid backup using a file manager from my sd card yesterday, and now when booting into recovery it sits on the twrp screen for easily 10-15 minutes. I can't fathom why that would have an effect on the start up time but that's all I can think of that changed. I've tried re-installing twrp via goomanager - no change.
Is there a way to do so without using usb? I'm curious because the first S4 I had, the usb port went bad after only a month and I was in a panic that I wouldn't be able to get it back to stock (until I finally got it to work long enough to flash it with odin). Really don't want to risk that happening again.
Looking to run some roms once I think I understand at least half of what I'm doing, but trying to be cautious. I'd like to keep twrp but I want to make sure it's working right by loading a clean install of it.
Thanks in advance.
A lot of users are experiencing the lag with TWRP version installed by Goo Manager - (TWRP 2.6.0).
The link below has a flashable zip to version 2.5.0.2, this version seems to be stable and doesn't lag at the TWRP screen for most people including myself.
I would try flashing this and I think it will solve your problem.

Thank you. I'm a little stumped on what to do with the zip now that I have it though and all my searching for "loading recovery with goo manager" just shows the method to load the newer version. Or if you're supposed to load it via pc, what do you use? Odin doesn't like any of those file types.
Sorry if this is a dumb question. Probably just not searching for the right thing.

You flash it via recovery. Put in your sdcard/internal boot to recovery amd use the install zip option. Navigate to where it is and flash away.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk. now Free

Yes, it is a flashable zip, just flash it in the recovery you have now.
I found this post based on the OP's original question, "how to remove TWRP recovery".
I have been flashing rooted ROMs for a while now via ODIN, but am just now starting to foray into the realm of custom recoveries. Before I install TWRP though, I wanted to know how to remove it just in case something ever goes wrong. That is, I've been avoiding the use of a custom recovery so far because if something ever happened to my device, I could just flash the stock ROM, and having already used Triangle Away, Samsung will never be the wiser and would service my device, but with a custom recovery installed, they would be able to see I'm not running totally stock.
So, is there a way to completely return my device to 100% stock after installing TWRP? And if so, how would I go about doing that?
My device is a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8013, currently running a root injected stock ROM, 4.1.2
EDIT: I just noticed that this is in the S4 forum, which my N8013 obviously is not, but the answer to my question should be the same regardless, yes?

Answer would be device specific
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using xda app-developers app
Thanks Gadget, Hex. TWRP 2.5.0.2 works great. But just for future reference, is the only way to revert to the stock recovery by flashing a stock device image via odin over usb? So if the USB port were to fail entirely, I would be SoL - correct?
Ive been wanting to put clockwork mod recovery and put cyanogenmod 10.1 for my fascinate, but the issue is i cant download any recoveries using the apps; Rom manager , Goomanager, and Rom installer. Does anyone know why? Could anyone link me so i can put CWM 4 and the cm10.1 zip for me? wanted this rom for so long now i can have it on an old device. Id appreciate it very much.

all of those have old recoveries that don't work that well anymore... also cm10.1 is a bit old, you may want to try CM11...
also you have to use Odin to get the proper ClockWorkMod on your phone to use cm10.1. odin is a computer program (windows only i think)
you could use heimdall too but i don't use that..

honestly my windows computer is having major issues and doesnt want to turn on, and i looked at heimdall, but it has like 10 individual steps within the installation. I was considering cm 11, and i thought with the fasciante you can just apply update from the sd, then choose the .zip file where clockwork mod is in.
Mabye thats too old.
Any tutorials or links people or you kind sir can point me in the right direction? Ive literally looked everywhere but all are from 2011 and are outdated.
in the general section droidstyle guide

Section 4
If you are not rooted or already have a custom ROM on your phone, you will need to use odin or heimdal.

Graphical interfaces in linux make things way more complicated than they need to be. I can get any Fascinate to rooted stock GB w/a custom recovery in Heimdall with literally 2 cut-n-paste commands in Terminal on my computer in 5 minutes. It can't get any easier.
Sure, there are several steps involved with installing ADB & Heimdall on your computer and downloading and setting up your folders with EH03, the GB boot loaders, & CWM4. But honestly, if you aren't willing to do this first so you have the ability to recover your phone if you brick it, you have no business installing custom roms. 1-click roots and apps like ROM installer just leave people unprepared WHEN things go wrong.
