My only complaint so far besides having version 1.6 is getting PdaNet to work on the Streak. Won't accept the modem driver. I had no trouble installing & using PdaNet with the Backflip, iphone3 and Sony X10 I had before this phone??? What do I do?
I like using the phone as modem in places where there is no internet.
Upgrade to 345 or DJ Steve's ROM and you'll be able to teether and be a wifi hotspot.

Is there any way I can get PdaNet to work without upgrading?
I've seen so many different ways to update etc, plus problems if you do it wrong. I'm perfectly happy with version 1.6 if I can get it tethered as a modem.
Is there any other programs like PdaNet out there?
Here is my Streaks info if someone can steer me to the correct site or link on updating to Froyo (2.2)

Anybody???
I am ROOTED if that helps any...
Let me ask this in a different way as I'm not getting any answers here yet.
Is ANYBODY using the Streak 5 on version 1.6 as a modem via usb.
If so, how did you do it?
I only have a week before my 30days is up with this phone and if I can't get it to work as a modem via USB, I will return this phone and get another brand.
Something is obviously wrong with the Dell Streak 5 as the other 6 phones I had (see my sig) had no issue using them as a modem for my laptops via PdaNet.
Do you not get the update notification on your ATT version? I just reflashed back to 1.6 from 2.2 and a couple minutes after booting I get the update notification to download build 318. If you need help getting to 318 let me know.

Nope, no update notification at all. Still stuck on 1.9 that I got from Best Buy / AT&T.
I can use all the help I can get as I'm new to this. What is 318? An update to a newer version?
I'll help in your other thread about upgrading to froyo or gingerbread.

Hello...???
I tether. I run the wireless hotspot. But I also have an unlocked Streak running the 347 ROM (Android 2.2.2). So I don't need to use a tethering app. For me, a quick trip to Settings>Wireless & Networks>Tethering & portable hotspot and I have an option to turn on both the tethering and the WiFi hotspot.
If you're unwilling to upgrade to the latest ROM, you'll have to use something other than PDANet to tether. I mentioned in your other thread regarding tethering on this forum that you should search the market on your computer for a tethering app. But installing StreakDroid would be better because it gets rid of AT&T's useless restrictions. One of those restrictions is tethering. It's disabled on AT&T ROMs.

OK, if upgrading to the latest ROM will allow me to tether using a usb to notebook and getting online with the phone I'll do it.
I find it very strange that PdaNet worked fine without any hitches with my last 6 phones, yet not the Streak. That points to Dell, not AT&T.
Dell botched the introduction of the Streak from day one. The biggest issue is that the Streak should have had 2.1 at a minimum from the first day it was sold. The only other issue I can think of, and this might be part of the reason PDANet refused to run, is that on 1.6 the Streak is, if I recall correctly, locked in landscape mode.
There is much to hold Dell responsible for. Trust me though when I say that changing the phone's ROM will make a dramatic difference.

Has anyone happen to figure out a way to get tethering back after updating to the att update? I would really like to up date it but can't lose my tethering.

No dice I guess, I'll wait till something pans out on this to update cuz I can't afford to lose my hotspot. I seen a post that someone was scared about using a lot of data on an unlimited data plan, I use roughly 25-30 gbs a month!!!!! Lol let them try to charge me!!!!!

the Dell 322 update still has the tethering & wifi hotspot working. If you can downgrade to that version, then it could resolve your issues.
I'm not sure how to downgrade from 340 though.
Hope this helps a little!
Use qdl to go back to 305 then upgrade from there to 318 or 322. Why did you go to the at&t version anyway?
Dell Streak powered by Streakdroid 1.8.1
I'm on 318, I was just wondering if anyone was able to get tethering back after they updated to 340. Is 322 better then 318 stable wise? I heard 340 wad really stable and fast that's why I was wondering if I could get tethering back I would update but if not I'm happy with what I got.

322 has been more stable than 318 was for me. Added bonus, BT voice dialing works.
can anyone confirm that front facing camera on 322 works on video calls? (yahoo messenger, fring, tango)

Do you have the issue on 322 of the notification drop down coming down randomly? I heard that was an issue with 322.

Hey all,
Just had a question and wasn't sure if anyone was actively pursuing this yet.
Has anyone found a way to re-enable the wifi hotspot support within the AT&T 2.2 build that was just released this last week? With one of my past Streaks I was on Dell Unlocked 2.2 build and had some hardware charging issues after putting in all that work to take a ATT 1.6 to Dell (U) 2.2. I'd really like to avoid going backwards from my new att 2.2 to just go forwards to the dell 2.2 that had some stability issues.
I am aware that everyone has different opinions on which one is better so please focus any answers around how would it be possible to restore a native froyo feature to this ATT lockware OS.
Thanks All,

it can't be done. At&t does not want you to use your phone as a wifi hotspot so they removed that feature in the phone. Only way to get it back would be to downgrade back to the stock rom you had before.
If you don't have unlimited data plan go for 340, it's fast and stable, if you have unlimited data plan 318 + performance fix is my first choice although I never had any issues with any of DJ Steve's ROMs they are all kind to my Streak and my Streak loves them back, but having read all the others are posting, would really give you second thoughts. Maybe it is just a matter of following instructions, if you didn't get it right it will be a disaster indeed. I just don't get it,English is just a second language to me but I am able to always get it right, guess that is my advantage, having English as secondlanguage.

I don't have battery issues with 318 plus the performance fix. From 24-36 hours with no problems.
I am new at this. I got my thunderbolt a month ago and it already has the new firmware. So, was wondering from tomorrow onwards, can this phone be rooted to get free wifi/hotspot (plus the new firmware) or I have to pay $20 per month
as I will be on a road trip for like 15 days and need this to work properly.
any suggestions from gurus here would be great.
If you have the where with all to root it, the Synergy rom has the unlocked hotspot. Do not know about other roms because I am new to the Tbolt. I am coming from an Evo.
Yes all roms have the hotspot feature and you can get them after root. I use the hotspot feature on CM7 and its working great.
Oh so you guys are using the integrated hotspot feature and not the downloadable app from the market?
Since I can't post in the dev forum yet: I still have a TB with the day1 rom/radio/everything, and I refused all the updates so far. Are the instructions in the root thread still applicable to me?

you'll need root to get free wireless tethering. If your ROM doesn't have it built in, there's always barnacle...
After seeing the above replies, does anyone know if the Das Bamf 3.0 RC4 has a built in mobile hotspot like mentioned in the synergy rom? Or do we have to use Wireless tether for root users/barnacle?

Wireless tether
sent from my BAMF'n thunderbolt.
Wireless tether works great on my rooted T-Bolt. I had stock rom Froyo until last night, now I have Gingerbread 2.3.4 and wifi tether is working great still. You can even download it from the market as long as you do it via wifi and turn off your radio.
Which version are you using and what settings are you using? Did you set it to a specific device profile?
I tried 2.07 and it connects, but dies after about 2 or 3 minutes.
I tried the 3.1beta and cannot get that to connect at all.
Any assistance you could provide is greatly appreciated.
try Inj3ctTh3ory rom wireless tether is cooked in the rom
What should I do? Do I update it over the air? Should I learn how to flash/root/unlock and find a custom that would be good?
That's something you have to decide. Read the forums, there are plenty of reasons given as to why to root or flash custom rom. I recommend a update to stock 2.3.4 for starters.
It isn't the end of the world to update to gingerbread and not be able to downgrade. You can either do that OTA, or you can use a CWM based rom so that you could have the ability to downgrade in the future.
It comes down to this, are you comfortable with unlocking, flashing cwm, then installing roms? Do you think you will be soon? Do you have a desire or need for these things? If your answer is no to both questions then just OTA update. It doesn't cripple your phone and you can always adjust the phone to any release using CWM when you are comfortable with it.
I can tell you this. If you value having a reliable bluetooth connection I'd think twice about upgrading to Gingerbread. Google it...
I'm this the process now of searching this forum to figure out a safe way to get my Gingerbread update back to Froyo.
CM7!
I'd learn how to flash CM7 onto your Atrix! I was in the same boat as you (I got an Atrix on 2.2 about a month ago and didn't know how to do anything at all) and really, it's not that difficult -- just follow the instructions and you'll be fine
CM7 is so nice!

Both. I've tried it using the in car systems in an Acura TL and Ford Focus. Also tried Plantronics Voyager Pro, Discovery 975 and an old LG headset. I get the same results for all. I'm able to successfully pair without any problems. But about half the time I'm in a phone call the bluetooth connection becomes unstable and audio reverts to the phone.
I'm surprised the inability to use bluetooth hasn't garnered more uproar. It's really a safety issue. Maybe there aren't enough users on Gingerbread yet?
I have a rooted, and radio unlocked Atrix 4g. I didn't install the rom (bough it used), but it says that it is the zch45inxdroid55. I went to the Cairbbean for a week and was using a 3G/4G plan with tethering (go figure that they could get a 2GB tethering plan with calls and text for under $50US, with 2GB more for just over $10 more) and the phone REFUSED to do mobile hotspot or usb tethering. I tried the "ro.mot.entitlement_check=false" trick. the build.prop did NOT have this entitlement line in there originally, so i added it. The APN already has tether in it. I restarted and tried again, with no luck. Can someone PLEASE PLEASE help me.
It should be noted that i can use my lapdock already with no problems, just not the mobile hotspot
Thank you!
Have you tried the barnacle app? It reportedly works on most ROMs, regardless of any ROM quirks.

lol, mama raised me to be polite...and also to be quick on the trigger. Was a little too quick there, but i edited that lol. Will try barnacle in a sec
So there is no way to get this disabled and use the "standard" way of bluetooth or usb tethering. honestly would like a BT option.
