[HOWTO] Rooting, Installing - Android SDK, Custom Recovery, Custom ROM's

Hi, i've the same problem too. I've tried to reinstall recovery more time, i've tried also to press "Menu" instead of "Home" with the other 2 buttons (i just tryed and the phone freezes in LG Screen) and now i cannot enter that menù. Could some one help?
EDIT: I solved in this way: in commands that i use throught the adb shell, i replaced all "flash_image" with "flash_image.img" in less words adding the extension of "flash_image" file to each command. It works fine now.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy 551 (i5510)

I can say i am a little disappointed about the phone, because a lot of app are crashing, i can't see google docs on it and so one.
are there any custom Roms for this phone? or 2.2.1 ?
rooting is soo easy.. i rooted with One click Root...also i did Un-root because i had to send it to guaranty because of the screen
another disappointing problem is the battery...its lasting around 1-1.5 days, and thats not cool
it is a good phone but i believe it has lots of bugs in the OS.
i was able to root my galaxy 551, however rooting thru one click root doesn't install any recovery. how do you install a recovery so i can flash the zip files.
i also have the htc wildfire and have rooted it and flashed different custom roms, however rooting and flashing the galaxy 551 is an altogether different procedure. could someone make a guide for this? thanks
far as i read on internet there is a app called ODIN...and you can use it. i coudnt try it because i sent my phone to service because of the display.
also...can you enter google docs from your 551? my browser is crashing every time...
i haven't tried the phone's browser yet, its been with me for only a day. i installed rom manager and clockwork mod recovery. however, i can't seem to start recovery (when the phone is off). in htc, you press volume down and power. In samsung galaxy 551 what buttons need to be pressed aside from power button to go to recovery mode? i tried the home button, back button, and volume buttons but nothing seems to work.
try volume down + home + power ...
i cant try since my phone is gone to service
try and tell me the result
also can you please try to enter docs.google.com and tell me if its working on ur phone....thanks
update: you can install the Android SDK, and after that you can use adb...when phone is connected to pc and and debugging is on:
adb reboot recovery
the combo of volume down + home+ power didn't work, the only way i can go to recovery is to go through rom manager
what do you mean "through rom manager"?
did you try adb ?
How Install ClockworkMod Recovery on Samsung Galaxy 551.
When In ROM MANAGER,
I click on Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery option, I don't see Samsung Galaxy 551 in phone model list.
Please suggest.

there is a selection on rom manager to reboot on recovery, i also tried to backup using rom manager, unfortunately it didn't work and my phone started in recovery mode. I also couldn't install the right clockwork mod recovery because galaxy 551 doesn't show in the device choices
Is there any way to backup current rom of Samsung galaxy 551?
So that, I can take up a risk of installing new rom.
Well still I dont know whether this Samsung galaxy 551 supports new rom installation or not...
If any one has done already done before then pls let us ppl kno .
Thanks in advance

Try Volume down, the center button and power button
people...install busybox...
i can't create a tutorial yet, because my 551 is still in service (screen problems), and far as i find out we can enter recovery mode with busybox
update: busybox can be installed if you root your phone using SuperOneClick Root 1.6.5 or higher, and if you have your phone rooted, but no busybox, just install Titanium Backup, and it will install it automatically

Hello,
I managed to flash my galaxy 551 with one of firmware available at samfirmware dot com.
The keys are "q" for a qwerty keyboard or "a" for an azerty keyboard (the first letter of the physical keyboard) + power for boot in download mode.
But the physical keyboard is now in qwerty : I'm interested in azerty.kcm.bin file + *.kl from an FR rom.
Thank's in advance and sorry for my bad English : /

guys anybody how to enable live wallpaper in 551 i used terminal emulator but it sys busy box permission denied any solution for this please help me
Hi, found lots of useful stuff reading the thread. Does anyone know how to boot into recovery mode? the vol.down+home+power didn't work for me... or I'm doing it wrong :S Has anyone booted into recovery succesfully?
UPDATE: for the record I have the GT-I5510L model (L is for Latin I think) rooted using SuperOneClick 1.7 (which I think installs busybox in the process).
I found out that the "Q" key + Power combination during power-up takes you to Download mode, and so far the only way I found to enter Recovery mode is through "terminal emulator" executing:
Code:
#su
#boot recovery
After that the phone reboots and enters Recovery mode.
To navigate in Recovery mode use the following physical keys:
Left and Right arrow to move Up and Down the menu options (weird, right?)
Shift key (the one on the left above the red "Alt" key) to select the highlighted option.

[Q] GTablet hangs on recovery mode

When I try to start my buddy's G tab in recovery mode (power button + volume up), it hangs on the "bird screen" / recovery key detected screen. The only way out is to manually shut it down with the power button.
The first time I started it in recovery I was attempting to install CWM, and the Android recovery screen came up. I couldn't get it to take any commands with home button or any other, so I shut it down manually and tried again. That's when it stopped giving me anything.
Mine didn't act that way ... did I do something wrong, or has VS changed something in their latest updates?

NV-Flash your device back to a stock firmware and try again. Or you can just NV-Flash a new recovery file. That would also work.
If the stock recovery had a menu that you were trying to select a command from then the device has a ROM based on the 1.2 bootloader and there are a few things you should know.
1) The home key doesn't activate the selected command. It toggles the display. The power key activates the commands.
2) The standard CWM for 1.1 based ROMs doesn't work with 1.2 based ROMs
3) If the device has one of Roebeet's custom 1.2 based ROMs then you can use the built in recovery pack to flash between Stock Recovery and ClockworkMod with a simple command line script. It may even work to recover from the situation you're in now.

Many thanks. I've learned tonight that his tablet has the new 4349 build, and that does have the 1.2 bootloader. That's apparently why CWM didn't load.
Where I am now, though, is that I can't get ANY recovery menu to come up. It merely sticks on the main screen with the recovery key detected message, and I have to manually turn it off to reboot. Therefore, loading anything from a zip would be difficult - which I guess might have saved us since I didn't realize VS had slipped in a new bootloader.
But for future use, I might need to get access to that recovery menu ... how do I do that?
.
.
Sounds like stock recovery got flashed over by cwm for 1.1 bootloader. You could try looking over at another site that is something like [email protected] d®∅¡d.com for the new cwm modified for 1.2 bootloader and load it through nvflash. Good luck.
Thanks!

[Q] Huawei Ascend G700 stuck at bootloop

Hi to all, my Huawei Ascend G700 that I just bought has gone into a bootloop. I have succesfully root the phone using Huwaei eroot software from as in the picture below but I havent flashed any custom ROM yet.
But then I want to install CWM recovery into the phone as it much feature rich that the stock e3 recovery. So I've downloaded the CWM recovery from the page in the picture below.
I used MobileUncle Tools to boot the CWM recovery & that's when the issue occured. It keep restarting after the Huawei logo. I cant even get into the recovery (by holding volume button up + power button). If I hold the volume down button + power button, a sentence " => FSATBOOT mode... " at the lower left corner of the screen will appear but the phone will reboot itself again & again. Please help. Thank you.

get the firmware for your phone (don't know if it's G700-U00 or U10), and flash images back. take out the battery, put the software in download mode for the necessary images (=download to phone), and insert the cable while you 're pushing both volume buttons

as I said, use the solution I posted ... I managed to recover my phone with bricked recovery, uboot & boot partition:
- download the original stuff on the page,
- install the program
- tell it to upload firmware parts 'boot' & 'recovery' & start it
- connect the USB cable, hold both volume buttons and then enter the battery. this may not be easy: windows will first need to install a CDC driver, so the first time you try to download it will certainly fail, but maybe the 2nd or 3rd time . You know you're in the good mode when your screen keeps blank.
Sir
I guess I need more assistance from you if you don't mind.I have added my comments in red letters to your email below and if you can assist me on that it will be appreciated

I think the program he is refering to is listed on that other thread that he refers to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2412017
The program hisuite is mentioned. just google hisuite and you will find the official Huawei website with the program download.
But a "dummies how to guide" could be useful if anyone that have done this themself could take the trouble to make one.
Personally I just have ordered and not received my G700 yet, and found this thread because I was planning to root and put CWM into it when I get it.
But reading this thread makes me a bit worried if its worth the trouble, as it sounds as its a common problem on these phones.
From what I read, rooting is rather safe, but the CWM part may brick the phone, is this correct?

[Q] UMI X3 boot loop...

Hello! I don't know where i should post this since the UMI X3 device isn't on this site, so i just post it here...
I installed a custom rom, now it's bootlooping.
If i turn it on it will show the little boot splash screen, then the screen will go black and usually it would show the boot loading screen but it doesn't, it reboots again to the boot splash screen.
I tried searching on google, but none of the forum posts actually helped me.
I try to holds down the power button and the volume up button at the same time, but it will just do the same bootloop thing.
The home button is a touch button, and i actually already tried holding down on that but it didn't work.
I also tried holding power button and volume down, and i tried holding all the buttons down at once (power + volume up and down)... also no succes.
Now it used to work, i got into some chinese bootloader before i installed this rom.
So, basicly it won't get into any recovery. I did install clockworkmod recovery actually and it did work, yet i needed to launch it via mobile uncle tools to get into it. I think im totally ****ed now...
Pleace, is there ANY way to solve this problem?
Problem in a nutshell:
Boot looping splash screen, can't get into recovery mode. (PS: i also tried to connect it via USB but it won't find my phone...)

Hi Kyriano,
I have the same problem after installing the cynogenmod, does your phone work now. How did you get in the recovery mode??
posible solution
Hi,
After struggling with this issue all day i found a quite simple solution.
The cause of the bootloop in my case was the simcard. So this is what i did:
1. remove simcard tray
2. Turn the phone off and on
3. If everything is ok the bootloop stopped, if not try to reboot again
4. Download mobileuncle in the playstore
5. Open the app click on; into recovery mode
6. Recovery will open and then hopefully you made a backup.Restore it and voila!
If you did not make a back try to flash the official umi ROM.
I hope this solved your problem to.

Acer Iconia One 10 B3-A20 shutdown when trying to boot in bootloader mode

Hi everyone,
As I have said in the title, I want to access to the bootloader mode, in order to flash my custom boot image. However, the tablet turns off when I try it with adb/fastboot tool
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
.
I tried also to access it from the stock recovery, and I have the same result. I tried to do it with volume and power buttons by different ways, and I couldn't do more than accessing the said recovery, or a chinese recovery with blue letters. I looked at translations for this menu, and there aren't the expected option either.
If someone has any advice for me to fix this problem, it would be welcome.
Thanks
Hello,
I have this tablet too and I have exactly the same problem. I want to see a custom ROM on Oreo but there is nothing. I tried to flash a custom recovery but it was a wrong recovery... And when I tried the other volume button I have a Chinese menu.
Sorry if my English is bad, I am French.

The Chinese menu is a factory menu ( not recovery ) that comes up when you use the power+vol-up buttons together. Use the vol-down button alone to get into recovery menu.
To flash the stock ROM, you don't need to use adb/flashroot; put the zip file on an empty microSD card, and use the relevant recovery option to flash from that.
