[Q] Organizing my pictures - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

May be a question that has been asked before but how can I organize my pitcures. I created new folders and move the pictures to those folders but when viewing on my phone they are still all in one big bunch. What am I doing wrong?

Hmmm...this is how I organized my pics. Created a folder named MEDIA. Inside this folder another one named PICTURES. Inside this one created others for the different types of pics I have. Example: Android. Wallpapers. Wedding. Chics. Football...etc etc.

Try "JustPictures" from the market. IMO it's a lot better than the stock gallery.

Quickpic is even better and lets you hide folders you don't want to see.

[Q] Sub-Folders in Gallery

Does anyone know how to create custom sub-folders in the stock gallery?
For instance i need to make a Chicago folder to appear in the stock gallery.
QuickPic works but it doesnt show 3d pics
EDIT- fixed!
You would have to create these sub folders on a pc or with a file.manager as far as I know

Just make a new folder (i use OI) and put any images you want in it and thats it. Just gotta reboot and itll show up
Ctrl folder is a good app. Lets you do it straight from the gallery.

Gallery App

Has anybody gotten the stock Google Gallery App to work? Or have a better alternative?

In my opinion, QuickPic is the best gallery app and it's free in the market.
Google's Gallery 3D works. The stock Moto gallery isn't actually bad if you use ADW or Launcher Pro to create a shortcut directly to the camera roll instead of that terrible landing page that shows when you open it normally.

Yes, I agree with skycamefalling - QuickPic is definitely the best gallery app and I've tried a lot of them.
I couldn't get the Google Gallery to install. Where did you pull the apk from?
I like QuickPic too but it doesn't pull in my Picasa galleries, and that's where all my pics end up.

I wish QuickPic supported accessing my MotoCast files. Til it does that I'm stuck using two applications.

Here's a Gallery 3D .apk that worked for me. Forget where I got it from, probably just searched for it once I realised the stock gallery was nearly unusable.
thanks! Worked great.

Does anyone have a hacked camera apk that allows you to link directly to gallery 3D instead?
Right now, if you try to take a photo with the camera and click on the picture, it says media gallery isn't installed. This is because i froze the moto gallery. I want to try and link the camera to use the gallery 3D for this instead.
Quickpic is my favorite gallery app.
I agree Quickpic is the best!
I prefer gallery 3d

I have another question which i find is not answered or I have overread: In the Folder "All Pictures" can I hide the pictures that I don't want to see? I have some apps and stuff on SD and all those pics are showing in this folder (and these are lots..). And is it possible to add a folder for the cam pics (so the cam pics are actually added when taken instead of going to the "All pictures" folder?
You can add a separate folder inside your picture folder (give it a name like "Private") with Astro (or some other file program) Inside that folder add another empty folder and name it .nomedia
Add the pictures that you don't want to display to the "Private" folder that contains the empty .nomedia folder.
Your gallery app will scan the folder, and any folder that contains a file with the .nomedia tag will be skipped.
The only downside is that to view anything in that folder will require you to either delete the .nomedia file, or you'll have to manually view the files in Astro or some other file explorer.

What is this thumbnail folder?

So whenever I take pictures or add pictures to my phone, a separate thumbnail folder with duplicates of all my pictures gets created. I was just wondering what this was? And can I delete it without losing the rest of my pictures?
CM7 <3
Freeze it. Backup. Remove.

Can't freeze because it isn't an app...

It sounds like it might be the directory where they store the thumbnails you see in the gallery app. Where is this folder located? I can give it a look.

Ok the folder is located in sdcard/dcim and I'm running cm7. You're probably right about what it is but I was just wondering if it was necessary. It flutters up my gallery with a bunch of duplicates :/.

That's exactly what it is. I'm pretty sure if you delete it, it will just get recreated.

I don't have cm7 flashed ATM, but I know in the MIUI gallery app, you can hide certain areas of the file system from being scanned for images. Maybe there is a similar option in cyanogen?

The camera's weird DCIM file directories...

What I'm seeing is DCIM\
then \001 and \002 and so on with pictures randomly set in each folder. I believe it has to do with the bursting. I.e. folder \004 contains the fourth picture in the photo burst that was saved.
My concern is, this is going to make syncing my camera folder to my picasa folder nearly impossible with so many sub directories. I sync via Photosync by Akira S. on the market and the app doesn't support subfolder syncing.
Work around anyone?

On further testing, it seems that subfolders such as \007 keep being made and each image is being named image001. Ugh....

just dont use the burst feature

Apparently, that fixes it. Sucks that I have to sacrifice a feature for another. I suppose if I wanted to use the burst, then I could cut/paste the file into the 100media folder like it should be.

Photo Organizer that actually moves photo's

Just wondering if anybody knew of a Camera app or organizer app that actually moves pictures instead of just displays them differently via a viewing app?
For example it would be great to have photos automatically go into pre-set albums or quickly and easily reorganize them afterwards etc. I know I can manually move them via file managers but looking for a dedicated app with different options/filters etc.
Anybody know of apps that can do this?
TIA.
Anyone?

Thanks for reply but did you actually properley read the OP?
Could you please give any relevant info about app and how it meets needs because I had a quick look at features and it seems completely different as its a motion picture capture and doesn't mention anything about what I mentioned in first post.
Quickpic.
A very nice gallery app with the option to conveniently move pictures to new or existing albums.

Thanks but as I said I'm looking for something that physically moves and organized them. Quickpic just creates virtual albums like standard gallery.

Media Organizer. Does not move automatically, but it moves photos, creates directories, etc
I know it is a paid app. Not sure if a free one is available, it might.

No my friend.
I use quickpic a lot.
Whenever I move a photo from one album to another, it physically moves the photo file to the desired folder.
I can also create new albums (folders) from within the app.

Thnx for help but I have tested app and it doesn't create real folders on storage it creates virtual folders/albums which isn't what I'm looking for.
[edit] Actually I take that back it does move them but to internal, will look more into app. Thanx.
