Back in 1969, they weren't sending too many SMS's around, so SMS functionality was pretty unrefined, and didn't have the delete option.
Ok, sorry. that wasn't very helpful.

Equally as helpful...
I tore all my 1969 messages up and burned them.
You tried wiping data using Titanium Backup?
Assuming you have a rooted X10?
yup, tried that.. I have like 7 messages now. All blank and from 31-Dec 1969 and from different people that Ive deleted messages.
Ok so the closest thing I got to your error was when I was using 2.2 with mms settings as Android.
When a png file was being sent I would recieve a blank text with a timestamp.
Saying that though I could do a long press on the thread and delete the thread.
They aint old emails that you deleted from your email server are they?
Saw somewhere that you delete you gmail contacts from your phone then resync from gmail via the gmail web page.
Might be barking up the completely wrong tree though. Sorry!
yeah, Ive read about those phantom emails as well.. non of those fixes work for the messages.
try a repair with SEUS or flash tool and they will be gone i think
I am trying to avoid flashing the firmware... that will be my last option.
I started having this problem just a couple days ago, not sure what started it but I ended up with four threads dated 1969 that I couldn't delete. I read through various forums which suggested a number of fixes but nothing worked.
I did mange to fix it myself though, or at least it's fixed for now. I did this about an hour ago and have rx/tx about 50 SMS since then with no return of the bug.
Download SMS Backup & Restore and back up your messages if you want to keep any of them, this fix will wipe EVERYTHING from the messaging app.
From the Messaging app thread list, press Menu and select Delete Threads. It will ask you to confirm that you want to delete all threads. Say "yes" obviously and bye bye stuck threads from 1969. Of course, bye bye to all the other threads too but that's why you made a backup. From SMS B&R, restore your messages and you should get everything back, minus the 1969 threads.
Your mileage may vary on this one so try it at your own risk. Don't complain to me when you delete that thread with the hottie from the bar the other night. You know, the one with all the pictures she sent you?
i think it maybe happened cuz u took the car from Back to the Future... and while u recieved an sms u were warping back to history. which made this impossible to have and been stuck...
now this how you fix it, go back to the time u warped with the car and stop urselve! else you will mess up much more, u are not allowed to change the past mate.... u mess up the future......
@Coffeedragon, thanks a lot for the tip. It worked. I had originally going to try something like that but I figure the back up would of backed up the blank as well.
oh no...
So I just tried this fix... (Back up messages/settings with Titanium; select all messages and delete) But now ALL my messages are turned into ghosts!!! Also, something many people haven't pointed out yet:
In the stock app, they are ghost messages. In chompSMS, they appear to be changed from SMS to ghost MMS upon deletion.
HTC Inspire 4G
MIUI.us 1.11.18
stock/chompSMS
Got this resolved with some help at the miui.us chat.
1. backed up messages and settings (using MIUI backup, as it was suggested that Titanium is not always great.)
2. Renamed (could delete) mmssms.db
3. rebooted
4. restored messages and settings via miui backup
perfect.

so on Comm 1.2/1.3 i can no longer check multiple threads to delete have to do them all.. or one by one.. and also.. is there a way to make my phone send multiple sms messages on large texts rather than converting to mms??
I know there was a mod to fix the longer mms awhile back but I'm not sure if it is compatible with community rom.

be sweet if it did still work. i know on superclean it just did it on its own.. but im more concerened with deleting multiple threads.. i get a bunch of stupid FB messages to my phones.. and it blows deleting them one by one..
Every time I read someone's text regardless of if i respond or not, when I go back to the inbox it still has the "1" bubble on that thread showing I have one new msg when i don't. Anyone know a fix?

Sometimes this happens when you try to send at the same time a message is being received. That could be your issue.
Yep mine do that too sometimes... If I go back in it normally fixes it. Seems to happen when I go to the text through the notification bar.

Try using Handcent instead. I was having the same problem and decided to use Handcent and turn off the stock messaging app. My experience is that the stock app is glitchy.

Seems to happen if you are using the notification bar or widget. Going directly to the messages does not exhibit the problem... at least for me.
My stock messaging app too seems a bit slow to update the unread count. This applies to the actual messaging app as well as the widget.
i can be in the app, read and reply, back out to the main level that shows all messages, and it will show the message as unread even though i replied to it.
Definately odd. I can get rid of it by going into the message, then scrolling down.
Thanks guys I wasn't sure if it was just my phone or all. Sounds like all. I like the sense 3.0 messaging app enough though to just deal with it, I don't like handcent.

Ok so this has happened a few time on different roms. Currently I'm running rejuentive 2.1..
ok what happens is ill be in the stock messageing app and it will force close. I get a message something like "messaging has stoped unexpectedly" and I go back to my home screen. So I hit the messageing app icon and it opens and all my texts are gone. Sucks but whatever, so then when I get a text I can read it when I dropdown my notification screen then when I click it to reply or hit the messaging icon, when I get into the messaging app it says no texts available. But once I creat a new text to that person and send it I can see that whole message string but if I get out poof its gone again..
Any ideas?
Edit: just happened useing gosms. I downloaded go thinking there was a problem with my stock text app.

I went through the exact same process :/ no idea what to do
Mmhmm I have the same problem... What sms program are you using?
I'm using gosms and I'm backing it to their cloud every now and then. Really weird issue cause it has happened on just about any ROM I've used.

Hey all,
I've tried my best not to be a noob and did a search of the i9300 sub-forums before posting this and also a search of the WanamLite thread.
I saw a few people have FC problems and others with "ghost" notifications. But my problem is a bit different.
I have a i9300 running WanamLite 2.0 ROM with stock kernel. I have about 9,500 texts (SMSes).
I backed up and restored them using "SMS Backup & Restore" from the play store.
The problem is this:
I get a notification that I've gotten a text, I open the messaging app and the relevant thread is not updated. When I open the thread, its fine I see the new sms and THEN the thread gets updated when I go one level back.
Its not as big of a issue when its a single sms or multiple smses from a single sender, but with multiple senders all I see in notification is that I have "X" amount of texts. I do not know who the sender is until I open the threads one by one and see which has a new text in it. =/
I really hope that I've been able to explain the issue properly. I wonder if i'm the only one facing this bug =/
Regards,
Forsakened.
