[Q] Adblocking not working when using network? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have installed Gingerblur with the adblocking and also installed AdFree, but noticed today that my ads are not blocked when I'm using the AT&T network. When on wifi, they are blocked with banners and ads gone, but if I switch off wifi, reload the page, the ads are there.
In the Gingerblur thread, Swiftks was helping me test this, but everything seemed to work fine for him. In frustration, I decided to flash my phone with the sbf, retainroot, update, retainroot, load GingerBlur, install AdFree, without restoring anything with TB...so a clean install...and the results are the same. Wifi = no ads...3G = Ads. I've even decided to try Dolphin and AngryBirds to test...same thing, wifi = no ads, 3G = Ads. This is pissing me off.

[Q] gapps causing problems after ED01 update

After updating my wife's phone to ED01 from EA28 stock, com.google.process.gapps continuously stops unexpectedly. Her phone was not rooted or anything and was stock other than the apps she has installed. I've rebooted the phone several times and no improvement. Has anyone else heard of this problem? I know I can always flash back to earlier stock versions and try again but avoiding a wipe is my preferred solution (it results in less whining about me breaking her phone, not that she hasn't already started complaining....)
I had the same problem, but I also had the EnhancedGoogleSearch.apk installed. I uninstalled it, and that fixed everything.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Removing the enhanced google search seems to have fixed all my problems. Thanks!
3g disables when wifi tether activated
Ok so I have updated to ed01 and rooted my fascinate. Everything seems to be working ok except now when I try to connect my xoom or ipod touch using the WIFI Tether 3.0, it disconnects the 3g. Usually I have a red and green arrow under the 3g icon, but if I have wifi tether on, a dim "D" is under it instead, now I can connect to the wifi tether from both these items but they give me errors saying "NO internet connection" Has Verizon put some sort of block in the rom???. Also if I open the browser or market on my phone the 3g signal activates again, but still no internet to my xoom or ipod touch.

[Q] [LRShinePlus][Android2.1]Unable to use app accessing Internet on wifi

Hello all,
I have recently had a pretty weird problem with my new LG Shine Plus which I hope you guys could help, here is what I did:
When I first sign up for the phone, I purchased a one month data plan just to try things out, everything was great and I was able to use the data plan and wifi when I am at home and downloaded quite a few applications and they all worked perfectly.
I cancelled a data plan since it cost quite a bit, however I am a student and there are both wireless networks on campus and in my residence room. As a result, I have turned off the Mobile Data Networks.
After that, all the applications, for some reason, stopped working. When I opened up the Advanced Task Killer Free, for example, it will show You must have INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permissions in AndroidManifest.xml and when I tried to hit KILL selected apps, it will crash. On Bloomberg, it says android.Manifest.permissions.INTERNET permission not set in AndroidManifest.xml file before crashed, and on a whole bunch of other apps, they just crash as soon as I open it up.
However, the most interesting bit is, I was still able to access the Internet on my mobile browser (tried several website that I know I did not go before just to make sure those are not cached pages) on wifi and I can access Android market on wifi as well.
So I turned Mobile Data Networks back on in hope that would resolve the problem, but the same thing happened even with the Mobile Data Networks turned on and now I am unable to use any apps I installed I have verified that I have the apn set up properly in there.
By the way, I have link2sd installed, but it was installed while I was using the data plan, and it worked fine then, I have also had AdBlock installed, which I have already uninstalled it and even apps without any add (dropbox) is crashing at the moment as well.
Please help!
Thanks!

[Q] Some webpages do not complete without wifi

I am in Chile with a Galaxy SII on Entel. I just upgraded to ICS here and seem to be having a problem with getting certain web pages to load properly and a couple of apps that use web services to get data if I am connected using the cell service on 3g for example. If I am connected to wifi then everything works fine. This occurs when using the built in browser. If I use Opera web pages loads correctly.
I first noticed this problem a few days ago after I had loaded Proxydroid in preparation for my trip to another country so that I may use another carrier which limited data use to browsing only, no other types of webapps. It seemed to be the problem as I was also not getting ads blocked by adfree. I uninstalled it and all seemed fine. But now it has started again.
Yes my phone is rooted using the ICS CWM script method mentioned on these forums.
Any ideas?

[Q] AdFree/AdAway + Wireless Tether = PC ad blocking

I posted this yesterday in the Android Q&A with no response, but maybe I should've started here since this could be a specific Rezound issue.
I used AdFree on my (Froyo, SkyRaider 4.x) Incredible. When I would run Wireless Tether, it would also block ads on my PC. I never even got a single YouTube or Pandora ad. Even using Hulu Plus on my Wii (not that great over 3G), I would get "message from our sponsors unable to be loaded" rather than an ad. So basically, somehow the hosts file was applied to every tethered device? I don't know exactly how it was done; it just worked.
Now, I'm on a rooted (ICS, CleanROM 4.5) Rezound using AdAway. It blocks ads on my device, but not on my PC when tethered as AdFree did on my Incredible. I tested by accessing one of the blocked URLs in the hosts file...it was blocked on my device, not on my PC. I've tried with AdFree too...same thing.
I thought maybe the webserver needed to be enabled in AdAway, but no, that wasn't it. Is there some setting I'm missing in either Wireless Tether or AdAway? Could it have something to do with the routing fix that needs to be enabled in Wireless Tether, or one of the other tweaks that needs to be done for tethering to work in AP mode (as I am running it)? I've changed nothing on my PC and it worked perfectly on my Incredible.
are you using a different tethering app? i know that some apps use different methods to share your phones data.
I'm using the mod here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540707 - followed the directions to install on ICS.
Tethering works 100% as it should, except for the lack of ad blocking.
I guess I'm wondering if other Rezound users tethering and running AdFree/AdAway are successfully blocking ads? I suspect it has something to do with the numerous tweaks you need to do on the Rezound to get tethering in AP mode.

[Q] Android Firewall not working.

EDIT: for anyone searching the forum for this problem, it seems either on KitKat or just the Moto G, I'm not sure which if you use a firewall "apps running as root" must be given data permissions or else data will not initialize. Giving this data uses about 300kb a month, so no problem with it eating any data.
I have scoured the internet for an answer to my problem and couldn't find one, so here it is.
I am on PagePlus, on the $12 plan, so only 10Mb of data, I use it, on my old phone Droid X2 I rooted and installed droidwall, then I could use mms, and opera mini pretty much as much as I wanted on that 10Mb  !
I converted a Boost mobile Moto G over to Page Plus, it went great, but on this phone android firewalls, like droidwall and others, don't work quite right.
The 3G doesn't seem to quite "initialize"?
My normal procedure to use opera mini is to open settings, now a quick setting on the moto g, toggle data, go to opera mini, and browse away.
Now it acquires 3G instantly, not 1X or anything, but opera mini says it doesn't have page failed to load.
Now if I go to droidwall, toggle the firewall off, go back to opera mini, look up a page, go back to droid wall and toggle firewall back on I can keep browsing even after it is back on, for that session (3G session, not Opera mini session I think, but am not sure). This uses only about 100 kb of data, and I can do this if I have to, but it will add up and end up using up quite a bit.
I can provide droidwall logs and whatnot if I have to.
Also tried giving kernel and lunux data, no go.
Thanks,
Anybodysguess

I thought that development had stopped on droidwall a while back. I was using it on my previous phone running Anroid 2.3, but I switched to AFWall+ when I got my Moto G. The firewall is so tightly tied to Android, that it makes sense to be using a firewall that is being actively developed. As the Android version changes, the firewall developer needs to adjust the firewall.
That said, when I switched to AFWall+, I was on version 1.2.7 and it was working fine. When I tried updating to 1.3 versions, I had problems with it not blocking things. So I have reverted to 1.2.7 and sticking with it until I see evidence that the problem is fixed. Development seems to have slowed on it, so I'm not holding my breath. I had a Titanium backup that I went back to. I don't know how you would go about getting an earlier version. The play store has 1.3.1.1 in it now.

Yes it did, it worked perfectly on my X2 so I never changed, but just after posting this I switched to AFWall+, as you were describing the current version seems not to work right, usually once I switch 3g off and back on data stops working til reboot.
If version 1.2.7 works and you could send me your titanium backup copy I would be very grateful, as I can't experiment around very much with only 10MB of data!
And yes @xips I am running 4.4.2 kitkat, the stock vzw version, froze some bloat with titanium but that is it, I did not delete any vzw crap apps yet.

On Android 4.2.2. the "apps running as root" network connection seems to be related to the mobile carrier's DNS servers. I used AFWall+ firewall logs to monitor that traffic and (at least on my phone) it was all attempted UDP traffic to DNS. My data seems to work fine though even with it disabled.
