I have been doing alot of research and looking at alot of peoples screen shots of there home screens and I have noticed alot of people putting in alot of work and making there device stand out and look really good. My question is how do you make icons with just font for instance instead of having the gmail icon I would like to have a mirrors font that says gmail and so on. Or if I wanted to go another route doing different icons. Im currently running launcher pro plus. On my rooted attix and would like a easy solution for this any help will be appreciated

Lol, he needs a little more direction than that...
There is an app in the market called "Desktop Visualizer", download it. It will allows you to create widgets on your home screen that are completely adjustable (you pick the image, the application it pulls up, and the name below it). If you want to use text icons I suggest you download some packs which can be found on:
www.deviantart.com
www.iconfinder.com
OR

its a brilliant app, however there is one feature i still cannot figure out/dont know if its possible. I like the feature that allows you to place shortcuts in the notification menu. pretty basic. but everytime i do, the ugly ass default icon shows up in the bar, even if i apply a default/custom icon to the app.
does anyone know how to change the notification bar icon for those shortcuts?
What launcher are you using? I'm using launcher pro and have two folder organizer links on my dock, one for my android tools and another for internet stuff. The launcher lets you customize the icons for anything in the dock by long pressing on the icon/app. Give it a try.

Try barcontrol, you're limited to their icons but there a few decent ones.

im actually running bar control, i have been for quite a while, i just really want to be able to set my own icons. i mean folder organizer allows you to associate custom icons to apps, but for some reason it doesnt resize the icons to fit the notification bar
Which do you use? I can't find one that will let me back it up so I don't have to redo it every time I flash a different ROM.
I like the TW contact widget, and tried to get it from a thread in the Themes and Apps section. Downloaded and went to install .apk and got "Application not installed". Know of anything similar?
Which methods do you all use for accessing your most frequent contacts in a one-click type way?
The People widget in LauncherPro Plus. Its awesome, and people theme it all the time, along with the other Widgets that come with LPP.
You can't install a system apk the normal way. You gotta push it to the system/app and then set the right permissions for it.

I totally agree. All of the LPP widgets are cool, in my opinion. Then I also love how you can totally customize them, as shown in this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=783427. Makes my homescreen very nice and consistent.
if you use a launcher (not lpp) that supports scrollable widgets, check out colorize widgets in the market..or signals modded colorize widgets in android development: themes/apps

How do you install and use this theme? I installed it, but it does not show in my app drawer. What am I doing wrong?
Look in your app drawer..Then look for Theme Chooser and select. That should do it for you.
You can find it in Theme choser. It's greyed out. It will say its the wrong size, do it anyways.

I did, and it worked, but I still have the "bar" at the bottom of my screen. How can I get rid of that bar so that it really looks like ICS?

That's an issue that goes above themeing. If anyone knows different let me know but as far as I've read this is about as close as you can get.

By "bar", I mean the bar that's in portrait mode. The one you have in phones and not tablets. The bar that has the phone icon on it.

Ate you talking about the dock? I don't know if you can turn that off in ADW, but I use ADW EX and you can turn it off with that. Other launchers may allow turning it off as well, but I can't name any.

I think he's talking about the bar that the buttons themselves are in. That you're stuck with as far as I know. We can get our tablets close to looking like CM9, but CM7 still has limits.
But some more fun things...
I'm using SPB shell 3d with a live wallpaper and I'm still getting good use out of the battery.
Normally SPB as cool as it looks is a resource hog, but I still have lots of free ram with the tablet.
I am including a screenshot showing what I am talking about.
It is the bar that has the app drawer and the phone icon

Look for an option in your launcher settings to hide the dock. I know ADW EX has that option. Not sure what you're using there.
Sent from my Nook Tablet using Tapatalk
In adw XL go to settings then themes and select no theme for dock bar.
To change the apps in the bar hold down on them, drag them out and add what you want.

For the dock bar go to Settings -> Adw launcher -> UI settings -> main dock style. Just select "none"
Yeah, that dock is kinda out of place on a tablet. Just so you can still access your app drawer, just long click on the screen, select launcher action, and pick open/close app drawer. I put one on every screen so that the app drawer is always accessible.
thx,ICS theme is pretty cooooolllllllll
I had to switch back to ADW, and now I got rid of the dock completely.
I have a couple of requests still: How do I add the apps drawer as the guy had on the top right of his NT?
Another thing I would love to do: make the soft home button actually display the apps, as of now, it only pulls the home screen.

Long press on the home screen and select launcher actions. You can control what the home button does though ADW settings.

I've wondered this for a while, but how exactly do I theme my ROM (i'm currently on ICZen) To change the icons into something I like.
I'm really digging these icons http://guillendesign.deviantart.com/art/VARIATIONS-3-261509672
How would I be able to change my apps icons into these? Can it all be automated or is it manually one by one changing the icons?
If you use a launcher like adw or apex you can change the icons on your home screens, not in the drawer.
All you do is long press the icon of the app you want to change. You will be given the choice to change the name or icon. Click the picture of the icon and then go find your downloaded icon. Click and confirm. Bam you got your new icon.
Now I'm trying to download these ones in your link but can't seem to find a link to download them. Did you download these? I only have my phone, maybe I need to get on Computer to get them, idk.

Oh well, they would have looked good. You can use any picture that you have as a custom icon though. Also I know that adw theme apps in the market come with there own sets of icons. I download themes just to get the icons.

Seeing that you both are posting from your phones, I found that you can't download things from Deviant Art in your browser for some reason. I just hopped on my PC and download from there.
Roly is right though, you just find your icons, unzip them and put in a folder called Icons. Then Long-press your icon on your home page you want to change and a menu will pop up with Edit. Click it and it will give you an option to use from gallery, url (I think) or file explorer. If I am just changing one icon, I will use the gallery. Might have to clear cache on your gallery to get it to rescan and show your new icons. Once in your gallery, you just navigate to your one that you want and pick it.
If you want to change all your icons, you have to go into ADW/APEX settings and go to themes and then in there you can pick a set from your sd card.
I use Desktop Visualizr and Simple Test too. Very handy and easy to use.
Hey, this is really just a minor annoyance, but does anyone know if it's possible to remove the "tap the + above to customize home screen" message from additional empty home screens? This might not be an issue specific to the Optimus G but it's the first time I've noticed it... and if it is possible, could someone instruct me? Thank you.
P.S. I already did some searching around... I tried adding icons to the screens and then deleting them, but the message reappears.
Also, I tried deleting the screens altogether and making new ones... no luck.
You could use a different launcher

Yeah, that's an idea, thank you. Usually I hate stock launchers... but actually I don't think there's a third-party one that can compete with LG's stock on this phone in terms of aesthetics... I'm familiar with apex, nova, holo and the like... on older phones they can be a great improvement, but on the e970 they all seem like taking a step backward tbh.
Anyway to get rid of that text while staying with lghome?
You can try to find a completely transparent widget and add it to the home screen. But other than editing the lghome apk, there is no way to do it thought the included features of the launcher.
EDIT: Tested it out for you:
download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.zooper.acw&feature=search_result
Change all the colors to 0 alpha
Disable all text areas
click save and you can't even tell its there.
Try using apex launcher, it is extremely fast and customizable. I'm using the monochrome icons with Xperia wallpaper.

How did you get the clock in the center? Are you running The Base?
That's correct. I also like the scroll and animation speed settings you get with nova launcher it has to be as fast or faster then the stock launcher.

That was nice of you, thanks. I'll try it with the widget, but actually you hit the nail on the head... I think what I'm really looking to do would be editing the ui somehow - I have previously taken the lghome apk and extracted it to look around... but I'm thinking it may be beyond me to do what I want. I have a feeling it's going to involve editing the xml files somehow, but I'm not sure... any ideas on where to start looking?
EDIT - Okay, added attachment just for clarity. There's really nothing on the web about this particular subject that I've been able to find. Maybe no one cares/all use third party launchers. If I knew where to look or what files I needed to edit, I could probably muddle through with a combination of common sense and web tuts unless this situation is going to require something like smali editing or whathaveyou, in which case I'd have an easier time trying to get my Beagle to give me the answers to the meaning of life and world peace.
