i prefer the quicksettings app. Like the interface and also its free
I use this now on my streak. I have no widget just the icon bar sitting in my notification area. It displays what is active and what is not. Only compliant is when I click it it opens up widget and fades the background which is an extra step.. also don't like the transparent notification icon.

Okay, that doesn't sound like the same thing. I have the notification bar power control widgets on my Evo and I can toggle them directly from the notification bar.
Well, I just did a Nandroid of my Streak, maybe I'll install it and see what happens.

Hi,
How do I remove the Battery Icon and Time from the Status Bar at the top of the GUI.
Removing the status bar completely would be nice. I can hide it with this ROM but it pops up when i press menu.
I can't recall to my memory if i need that bar apart from mounting SD card, where i could probably find a widget. I also could find Miss call widget or sms widget for showing unread messages/calls on the screen. I do not know if there is but I hate having to clear the status bar.
I'm using Cronos Froyo 0.1.5.2 ROM
HTC Hero Orange, Rooted
I hope this ROM is okay. The only issue I have is the camera previews not functioning well and the phone takes longer to Boot up. I havn't tried other ROMS.
Thank you.
It's been awhile since I used it but I believe that ADW Launcher has an option where if you swipe up on the home screen it hides the status bar. Not sure if it will still appear when your in certain apps or not, but you could give it a try?

it seems that he already knows it !
Hi, Yes I know that it can be hidden from the main screen but it pops up when I press menu. Also I am not sure if when the bar is hidding, it is in the memory still? (not actually removed). But I still worry about clearing that status bar (
Ah ok sorry. If you feel comfortable editing apks then there are a few xml files in the framework-res.apk (and possibly other system apks) that reference the status bar (like spacing of icons, what order they appear in etc) that you could modify and see?
hey, thanks. ill look at how to make my own apk. its new to me so ill read about it.
How do I take out the time on the notification bar?
With a widget that has a clock/time on it, the time on the notification bar seems pretty useless.
LOL, with the time in the notification bar, widgets with that info are useless
I'm pretty sure you can not take take that clock out. I think a bunch of the system stuff runs from that clock.

Well I have the TypoClock widget where it shows the time AND date. The notification bar only shows the time (date if you pull down notification bar), but I'd rather have just the widget.

Have you tried using a different Launcher?
Launcher Pro allows you to hide the notification bar.
im running ADW and if i just flick the screen up the status bar goes away, flick it again and it comes back. its pretty cool. i havent tried it with the stock home screen.

Did you actually try it? There is even another app - notification toggle. But the problem is, that this works just when the OS support it and unfortunately official Dell rom doesn't
I tried Status Bar Settings by Karson. It doesn't work (did not register clicks in notify bar). Even on the market page, the dev recommends Widgetsoid! lol
Widgetsoid has the same problem, it just launches a little app instead of each button being an individual toggle. Not quite CM6+ (from the Notification Toggle market page: "you will get a popup to select the toggle feature if your device doesn't support multiple notification clicks")
Maybe we can petition a dev 'round here to figure out how to shoe horn in "multiple notification clicks".
...and for the record, I have been using Quick Settings on my Streak for quick access to power widgets from the notify tray.

an app wont' bring this functionality.. you need to take apart cm7 or twlauncher to inject the hotbuttons. It is somethign I have looked into a few times without success..
there are dozens of apps that put the buttons in and just open a lame widget....
i have resorted to the wireless settings info popup menu hidden in settings to quickly enable and disable the wireless radios.
The wireless activity Krad mentions is covered here at StreakSmart. I have it as one of the gesture actions on the LauncherPro dock.
You can put one tap toggles in the notification tray but each toggle takes up a line in the tray. Notification Toggle can do this. The status bar switches by friedflow also work well.

Question for anyone using Extended Controls on the Atrix. I want to be able to place Extended Controls in my notification bar, but to also be able to eliminate having the widget on my Home screen. I find that if I remove the widget, it also no longer shows up when I bring the notification area down and tap on the EC. Anyone know how to do this, or is it necessary to have the widget on the Home screen, in which case, it seems like a waste of time to put it in the Notification Bar.
Thanks.
I'm not sure about EC, but if you use Widgetsoid you can add them to the notification bar and then set the widget that's on the homescreen to invisible, so that it's ONLY in the notification bar...I believe. There's a free widgetsoid, so you could always try that out!

I'll try it out. Thanks for the suggestion!
Another work around for not having buttons on the notification bar is if you use
swipePad + mySettings
just swipe on the corners to mySettings and change your settings through there. IMO best way.

Sounds like a novel approach. I'll try that too. Thanks!
Widgetsoid blows because..
if you click on a toggle it is not truly a toggle(in notification area) because it launches another toggle window and you cannot toggle directly from notification area

That's true. I guess it depends on the phone. I'm trying the Swipe Pad + My Settings suggestion and finding that I'm liking those apps a lot. The Swipe Pad seems to add a lot of additional functionality. Thanks.

That's true. If EC does it better while still hiding the home screen widget, then by all means use that! Just offering other ideas in case it doesn't.
May not be what you're looking for/more work than you want to do, but CM7 pre beta2 has notification bar controls built in with a bevy of other new features that make day to day use more convenient. I've been using it as my daily driver since pre beta 1 was posted and love it. Minus the few addressed issues that are being worked on now it's the best rom available IMHO.
When I swipe down to view the notification bar, everything shifts. The whole page shrinks and adds black bars to the side. On the video I watched about Themer, when he swiped down the notification bar smoothly came down ontop of the page. Not sure if I am missing a setting or if that is just how it is.
Screenshot would be nice

In the first image everything is fine.
Second image I swiped down to show notification bar and everything shifts and it adds black bars to the side.
Third image is when I hide the notification bar and somethings are still shifted.
We're working on themes that have the notification bar built in. Right now most of them hide it for a clean look, but you can gesture down to open it temporarily, and gesture up to hide it again

That is what I am doing. But in doing the gesture down to show the notification bar, it shifts the items on the page. I like that it is hidden and the gesture down and up to show/hide it. Just hoping it was a bit smoother and just overlapping on the page instead of shifting everything.

Looking at your screenshots, it looks like you have a modified notification bar. On stock devices, when you gesture down, the notification bar "floats" on top of the theme briefly and does not mess up the alignment. Try restoring your notification bar to stock configuration and you might have better results.

I had a mod for the status bar and I got rid of it and it works fine. Thanks!
