I am looking for an app that will work for video conferencing/chat. Any suggestions?
Or even better, is there a way to use the gTab and video-chat with friends on other traditional PC-based IM services like Yahoo, Live, AIM or Skype?
If none of these work? What do you use the camera for?
I really have not found a use for it yet.
FYI, I am using Calkulin ROM 1.1 (very stable and good battery life).
Yahoo Messanger for Android has a plugin for video/audio, but the people that i wanted to test with are never available when i was.

The only thing I use the camera on the gTab for is to read barcodes and/or QR Codes for Market apps so I can fire off downloads/installs of apps directly on the gTab.
I took a couple pictures of my cat, just to make sure the camera was working...

My pictures don't come out nearly as decently as this one. They look okay in the shapshot preview, but then when I open the file they are pixelated beyond belief and look awful. I am running CM7. What settings do you have for your camera?

I really haven't found a use for it. It surely doesn't work well enough to take pictures with.

I just downloaded the new Update for Qik and it looks like it runs on CM7
downside to it is that it only detects the back camera boo!
i just tried the Tmobile version, im going to download the other one see if it works.

Thats been the issue all along. It only detects the back camera since the code they use to access the front camera is totally wrong.

Well thats an improvement. Still not very useful for video chat though. I believe tango was finally updated to work correctly.

correct and does a good job..
ooVoo also works well on AOSP. but doesn't work on the Sense framework.

Probably because they did it the right way, without hijacking private api's.

I tried updating and I am unable to do video chat. I then did a reinstall and tried both 3g and wifi and I don't see the video chat option on the settings menu as mentioned by the app. I have an eve 3d with synergy evo 3d mod. Anyone also experiencing any problems?

Did you find a fix for your evo3d? I don't have the option either in Skype even after uninstall and update. Same problem on gf's evo.
I get no video and the person I'm chatting cant see anything.
I was just chatting with my girl friend on skype with the new update. I'm running Vipers 1.2 ROM with TWRP
If your having trouble try uninstalling rebooting and dowmloading skype again.
I'm on the stock ROM, no fix is needed. This works fine for everyone I know. Probably whatever ROM you guys are using.

The video setting doesn't show up in synergy because the base is so modified that the app doesn't recognize it as an EVO 3D. A different ROM will work. I had the same issue.

Yeah I dont know whats up with that but I just hold the phone horizontal to ignore the upside down video chats.
It's definitely irritating that for a company as large as Skype seems to perform no quality control on their software. I mean its not an obscure bug. Immediately upon starting a video call you see the person your talking to standing on their head. One of the main reasons we bought the phone was the convenience for video calls since my wifes family live in Colombia and we are in the states. Also being military ill end up traveling and having a method to see ny family would he nice. Oh well. I'll just hold it upsidedown till they fix it. I thoguht if i bought an android phone I wouldn't suffer from errors caused by holding my phone the wrong way.

How do I stop skype from running?
I did the menu, settings, apps and stop it that way. It then came back the next day with no option to stop it from running. Is it eating battery when it's running in the background? Meaning I can see the skype symbol at the top of the screen.

I had the same issue. Uninstalled and reinstalled new version and now it works fine. Except for the inverted video in portrait mode.

Task manager to kill process. Or set offline immediately and auto login in Skype prefs then you won't have to re-enter password each time you launch or switch to it.

I'm pretty disappointed with the iphone 4s announcement, because that's what I was going to get my wife. Its very important for her to video chat with her sister and family who lives 10 hours away. I currently have the atrix which never plays nice when it comes to video chat with iphone users, so I want to know if anyone has had success with video chat particularly with iphone users or even Skype?

May not be the same, but I've been able to video chat using my Galaxy Tab 10.1 with an iPad 2 using Google Talk.
Im pretty sure skype should work, as well as tango, and apparently google talk, I really doubt video chatting should be an issue at all

I can confirm all work. You have to make sure you have the newest Skype and enable it
Tango should work too
Skype, Qik, and Tango, tested them all with my wife's iPhone 4.

Fring also works well.
I tested Skype on S2 with iphone 4 and an HP Touchpad, they all work together well.
Better than it did with my Atrix although it did still work with the latest version of skype on the Atrix.
I use skype daily to video chat with my daughter while on the road.
For Skype video calls to work, do the following:
1- Download the latest version.
2- Sign in.
3- Settings
4- Scroll all the way down and you'll see various options... most importantly the option to "Enable video calling"
5- The Skype app might need a restart... so sign off, and sign back in.
Speaking of Skype, I have the latest version but noticed that it drains the battery noticeably (even when not using it). Anyone else is having the same issue?

The only good video chat apps are tango and gtalk cause they don't kill battery when not in use I have found

Skype is best. Gtalk is good too. For Gtalk video, there's an optional flashable zip file of it that has the video-calling enabled version. Works like a charm.

Its usually an optional add-on in the Rom Manager app (like the Gapps zip) that you check off, and it'll flash itself with the rom... but I looked around and found you the .zip file that you can successfully flash yourself. Hopefully it works.

There's no need to flash anything to get video calling on Att sgs2 by gtalk. It's included.

Oh, I thought that was the CWM fix to enable Gtalk over 3G instead of being locked to wifi only. Id like to be able to use Gtalk over 3G too.
I wouldn't advise updating the Netflix app. I did yesterday and now I only get audio and no video. I'm running CM7 beta. Can anyone using stock or another rom confirm if yours is working. I saw in the app market comments that others were having problems as well but haven't seen anything over here.
I have stock gingerbread and I don't have any video issues. Although I was getting like a fast forward audio/video thing when I started a movie. It corrected after I stopped and started it. I like it better because they fixed the orientation situation.

Well I guess it's a cm7 problem like the HBO to Go app. Damn, I love the rom but this needs to be fixed. Hopefully I can flash a backup to get it going again.
yup i had the same issues. i just re-installed a backup of 1.4.0 and it works fine again.
Well, I did a cwm restore from a backup I did 2 days ago. I opened netflix and gave me an error about my device being deactivated, I just clicked through the ok's and it logged me out. I logged back in and all was well. Also, after reviewing the bug reports on CM7, I came across an interesting fix that may work for plex, I'll post the link below in the hopes that it will help somebody.

No I didn't. Didn't work on hbo to go. Figured out it was a work around for plex only. The settings are found within plex I believe.

I'm running a rooted at&t stock atrix g4 and have no problems with Netflix.
Wondering if Bravia Hack could be incorporated into the Darkside rom. I would like to give it a try with some direction if provided.
Its really easy actualy , the only problem is that it makes any sort of gradient really patchy, I'm looking for a way to make the contrast not so bad, then I'll release a flash able zip for all roms

This sounds great. I can't stand knowing a cool feature is out there and not being able to have it.
I don't want to leave the Darkside rom, it's the only one with voice commands that work over bluetooth, and also I like how blur roms intergrate with facebook photos.
If it could have the better screen that Bravia engine claims, that would be icing on the cake.

If you install facebook, cm7 syncs your contacts and facebook pics. Just thought I'd throw that out there. I personally use contapps which does the same thing, but you can pick and choose who gets synced.

there is a tts language add-on that you have to flash, check the second post
None of the addons mention tts.

he must of either integrated it into the rom or removed it accidentally.
so i realised i never posted the flashable bravia hack any where so here it is for you folks,
Flash was successful. Display seems to be crisper but it may just be a "placebo effect". How could I verify its operation?

You could verify it by taking a screenshot before application of the .zip and after. Then, put them side by side and compare.

Good idea. Best I can do is compare a screenshot of the CM7.2-RC0 SelfKANG by rob43, without the Bravia Engine Hack and Darkside4.4 with Marko!'s AtrixBravia.zip installed.

I don't think the bravia hack will work due to lack of necessary hardware needed to utilize the features (which are present in latest SE phones). There is no way it will work on non-SE phones. Sorry, but waste of time this
