In canada how much is the laptop dock and how much is the other dock. Also what is included in the other dock.
Do I need a separate plan and all that for the laptop dock like on AT&T.
Thanks
Check out the Bell's site on the Atrix:
Multi Media Desk Dock $49.95
Vehicle Dock $59.95
HD Multimedia Dock $129.95
MOTOROLA LAPDOCKâ„¢ $329.95
And no, Bell doesn't have a tethering plan like AT&T. Tethering comes with your data plan.
Are you planning to switch from Rogers to Bell? I'm not sure if it Bell will do it again any time soon but couple of weeks ago, the Atrix was priced at $69.95. It's currently $99.95 on a 3 years contract right now.
Alright thanks. Do you have an Atrix on Rogers?
Is everything working great? anything I should look out for?

Oui, if you're using it on Rogers, the caller display of the the caller ID must be disabled by calling Rogers. If you don't, calls that are from landlines and numbers not on your contact list are shown as 'Payphone' and you are unable to call them back. Once disabled, you will still see the names of ppl that are on your contact list and only numbers if they are not.

Do you know if this will be fixed in the future or does Motorola not care because we are unlocked.
You don't disable call display you just ask them to omit name display and then your caller ID will function normally.

OK, I got a real nice surprise today when I saw in my phone bill that i had been dialing internationally through my wireless provider even though "google voice" would pop up on my phone since it is set to be used for ALL international calls. I now set it to ask before dialing, but I go check my call history in google voice and I have no calls made... WTF????
same
I had the same problem with $160 surprise bill.
Thank you very much!
It seems that the calls dialed out are just not going out through GV - regardless if they were local or international.
I called a friend's phone from my GV and my regular cell number shows despite asking it to dial all calls. While the phone shows that google voice is dialing out, it's just your phone dialing.
WTF, stuck with a very high bill now. Who is to blame? SE, ATT, GV?
I am out of the country at the moment and cannot check but I saww Google voice was updated, maybe it works after this update.

Unfortunately you. The best way to ensure gv is being used is to make calls from the browser. I have had ongoing problems with the app.
Instead I created an icon on my nineteen with gv as the bookmark. When I hit it, it goes straight to the gv call screen. It ain't pretty but it works.

That is a snarky answer. I never ever had a problem with GV on 1.6 from March to October of this year, and from what I read it was even more integrated in 2.1, why would I assume a Google App would not work properly when it pops up when I make an international call? Thank you for the workaround though.
Sorry, I didn't mean for it to come across that way :-( .
I agree I did expect the same as you. When I got stung it was around $300 more than my bill normally was. Calling my buddy in Cali at 35 cents a minute flat!
The only way I have found to be sure is the browser way and only because you are receiving a call. IMO gv should have some sort of pre-ring notification to verify it's operating.
I'm running an unlocked and rooted Atrix on Fido in Canada and have noticed a peculiar problem. Whenever a call is made to me from my landline at home, the Caller ID displays "Pay Phone" instead of the contact associated with that number. This does not happen with my wifes iPhone or my old HTC Desire HD. Other landline numbers show up properly, but this (and one other number) keep showing up as "Pay Phone". I've tried removing the number from the associated contact, but it keeps showing up as "Pay Phone".
Anyone else seen this with their Atrix? Any helpful suggestions?

Installed TrueCaller on my Atrix - this does report the number correctly but the font is pretty small and not too readable.
It seems like the number is being transmitted, but the stock caller ID app has a bug that causes it to display "Pay Phone". Looking around on the web shows it may be a Rogers/Fido network - Stock caller ID app issue that may be the root of the problem.
If anyone is on the Fido/Rogers network, are you seeing this sort of behaviour on your Atrix?
I'll be able to let you know later in the week. I should have mine on Rogers by mid-week.

Thanks for using TrueCaller!
/Team TC
This happened to me earlier today. I'm on Rogers.
Caller called from north on Mississauga road - a business (I was expecting it). Big office, many trunks in the building. I've never had it display as PAY PHONE before though today it did.
This isn't happening from all calls, just this one so far.
I think the Motorola support folks have found the root of the problem. It looks like there is a bug in the Atrix Dialer app that makes it behave incorrectly and display "Pay Phone" without the number if you have Caller ID with Name Display enabled with your carrier.
Rogers(and Fido) is the only North American carrier (I think) that has the option to give you the Name Display along with Caller ID. The fix for now is to get Rogers/Fido to enable Basic Caller ID (without Name Display) and then the numbers will start showing up. It sucks to lose Name Display and I hope the Motorola development team will have a fix for it at some point.
BTW, this will affect any carrier worldwide that has the Name Display option with Caller ID.
FYI - here's a thread I've had going on the Motorola Support forums.

TrueCaller is available from the market. The only issue with it is that the Caller ID number is displayed only for 1-2 rings. Unless I am waiting for it, I'm not fast enough to see the number with TrueCaller until the call ends.
If the caller ID problem really annoys you (like it did me), you should ask Rogers to remove the Name Display option from your Caller ID.
i got the same problem, grrrrrrr
any way of getting the dialer from another build of android?

name display is a feature that you can add or remove from the basic caller id, it shows up the names of people calling who are not on your contact list. if you ask for it remove and someone that is not on your contacts calls you then you will only see the number. just make sure that you still have caller id without name display.

Carrier based video calling is actually pretty common outside the US, even though it is almost completely unheard of here. I'm a little surprised the international versions of this phone don't support video calls, but not surprised at all to see that feature lacking on the US version.
Have there been any Android phones that do this? I know the international version of my old Fuze (Touch Pro) had an FFC and did it even though the AT&T version didn't.

Unfortunately android phones don't support standard video calling.
And yes, most of the world has a standard video call that works same on all carriers, even between carriers works. The usa is the only place that does not have video calling.
Does anyone know why this is though?
And does anyone know how video calling (direct, not third-party like google, skype, fring, etc.) works exactly, I get that a line is connected between the two phones, but what about information sharing? Are there any special permissions needed to use this direct data connection?
What about the video/sound compressors?
Why doesn't America feature this?
I hope i didn't go off topic, but I am rather interested in this......
Will google, and if any cares/helps me find me answer, i will post everything i'va gathered

yeah even in canada rogers had this service but it didn't take off as the cameras sucked and there wasn't much use for it when you add in the screen size of the phones that had it. I had it on my HTC TyTn and Touch Pro. I think one carrier was looking to roll it out in the US. AT&T was against it so all those winmo devices that came out on their network had the front camera taken out. I could be wrong, but the Iphone 4 was the first device where they allowed it.

I confirm that some Android phones have a carrier video calling feature.
I own an Atrix 4G (2.3.4), and my wife owns a Samsung Galaxy S II (2.3.3)
And yes, there is a video call option in her phone's dialer.
We live in Moscow and have different carriers. 2 days ago i bricked my Atrix 4G trying to unlock its bootloader, so i had to stick back to my rubbish Samsung Z510. As soon as i put my sim-card into it and powered on the phone i could see a "3g" icon in status bar. And yes there was a video call option in my z510's dialer. It worked like a charm. Carriers video calls in Moscow cost the same as regular voice calls, so i'm quite interested in finding a way to mod my atrix as soon as i get a new one instead of bricked one. From today the source code of Atrix 4G is opened and i just hope that xda developers will pay attention to adding carrier video call in their future custom roms.
You can also try Oovoo. It works for both computer to phone and phone to phone calls.

Consider Google Voice.
Visual voice mail with text transcription is just One of the features.
Others include setting same phone number on multiple phones (land line or mobile phones) and choose when to ring them based on a schedule.
View or listen to your voicemail via phone, mobile app, or web app.

Voicemails sound metallic with google voice, and the transcription is almost never correct.
I noticed when someone is leaving me a voicemail this what happens: phone starts ringing about 4 to 5 times then stops while the caller is still hearing that the phone is ringing for another 5 - 6 times then Google voice kicks in. TOO LONG for the caller to leave a message. Any way to shorter the amount of the phone rings before Google answering machine picks up ?
If only google voice allowed mms

There is a code you can dial on your phone to change the duration when your voicemail will pick up. It's an AT&T setting, not configuration through any other way.
This is how you adjust when a call goes to vmail
On your phone, dial *#61# and click Send.
Some information should be displayed: number that the calls are being forwarded to and the delay before the forwarding engages.
Write down the number (including +1)
Dial **61*+1xxxyyyzzzz*11*30# and hit Send. +1xxxyyyzzzz is the number you wrote down previously, 30 is the delay in seconds. The delay can be set in 5 second increments, 30 is maximum
Dial *#61# to verify that the new settings are active.

I find the VM quality as good as the carriers. The transcriptions are not always perfect, but they are alsays close enough to allow me to quietly read all my VMs (during a boring meeting) to determine if i can delete them or save them to take action on. I find it to be an amazing service; of which the Voicemail is just one part. If you have multiple phone's its invaluable.

GV app on your phone doesn't use VoIP at all. What it does is auto-forward your outgoing GV calls to a local phone number nearby. It does this to avoid anger carriers. If GV does VoIP calls, all carrier will bar the app being avaialabe to their phones.
So, yes, you still use you minutes.

That's odd. I didn't have to do any of that. I purchased my phone from T-Mobile, SIM unlock through Cellunlocker.net, changed my APN settings and I was good to go. It shouldn't make a difference as I am using an unlocked T-Mobile variant and my VVM is working fine. Send me a PM around 7PM EST or so and I can see if I can get it working for you.

I'm using SIM unlocked T-Mobile on AT&T. I have my APN set just like my wife's AT&T S5.

Problem solved. It was AT&T that had something screwed up. I want to thank you so much for trying to help and offering the PM for additional direct help. People like you what makes XDA as awesome as it is!!! I hit your thanks button.

I'm glad that you got it taken care of. I know how frustrating it can be for a phone not to function as intended.
