[ROM] CyanogenMod 6.2.0 BETA - 06/03/11 - Fascinate Android Development

Got bored tonight, ended up merging my Vanilla FroYo device tree and fixes into CM6. The result appears to work just about as well as Vanilla FroYo
*** Not Working (so far) ***
MMS
BT calls
Camcorder
*** Working ****
RIL - 3g data/calls/sms
WiFi
GPS
Camera - with color preview
rotation and proximity sensors
sdcard and USB mass storage
BT - file transfer and a2dp (I *think*)
Basically same status as my Vanilla FroYo ROM. My device is deactivated, so there are obviously plenty of things I cannot test personally.
This is built off the latest CM6 code, proprietary files from the "ec01" rom that Adryanalyne just released, and merged with my fascinate device tree and device specific fixes. The manifest for the code is here.
Flash ROM via clockworkmod recovery, then flash gapps and a compatible AOSP kernel from here. You may also use aosp kernels from nemesis2all. Make sure to wipe data!
***** Update 4/11 *****
fix roaming triangle
fix voodoo conversion
remove unneeded battery-draining debug
add rotary incoming call screen from CM7
remove those stupid arrows from the rotary lock
updated gapps
***** Update 4/15 *****
fix phantom ringer issue (hopefully)
increase MAX_VOLUME; hopefully incall audio should be a bit louder
fix a few camcorder errors (don't expect anything to work yet, it's a WiP)
add lots of RIL and camera debug
if anyone still has any issues with incoming calls or roaming triangle, please let me know!
***** Update 4/18 *****
fix roaming issues for remaining users
fix Google Voice in contacts "Voicemail handler" option
remove dev tools app and "videos" shortcut
***** Update 6/03 ****
Back from the Dead
fixed camera preview - now in living color!
implemented better signal bars fix (thanks Adr0it)
use the same kernel and gapps packages as before!
ROM - 04/18
ROM - 06/03
gapps
Enjoy

MMM thank you sir!

jt, your the man
working like a charm !

wow sweet. gonna test this tonight.
As always fantastic work Jt

Wow too much stuff to try. MIUI is just too nice for me to switch but I think I'll give this a try sometime this week when I'm less busy. Thanks!
Would it be possible to merge this into mainline cyanogenmod? I don't know if they still work on cm6 since this is my first android device and I don't follow them too closely.

If mms work in future update, I will def give it go.
But always good to see some progress CM.

No. No MMS means that you can't send pic/vid messages. I just use email though.

Screenies?

Seems I've lost root after installing. Hmm

If you lose root, you will still have the custom clockworkmod recovery, so all you would need to do to get back root would be to flash a superuser package, which you can download directly from rom manager under "cool stuff" or something like that. Losing root is no big deal once you have a custom recovery.

DJ05 Clean .9 MMS Fix

Here's a way to fix MMS on DJ05 Clean .9. Clean comes with the AOSP messaging app, but I use handcent, neither of which would send. Today I deleted the AOSP mesaging app
-adb shell
# rm -r /system/app/Mms.apk
#exit
and then pushed the MMS app from deodexed stock DJ05. Here's the link - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1185896/Fascinate/Mms.apk
Take this app and push it to the /system/app directory with ADB (I didn't try installing with root explorer, or ASTRO)
-Also, I'm sperman on the IRC, so PM me if you need help
-http://alltechdaily.com/2010/12/fixing-mms-on-clean-9/ <- Has my email, you can also comment (or check my forum soon )
I'm not even sure you need to delete the old Mms.apk as when i did this i just did
Adb push Mms.apk /system/app and it worked fine.
I use the stock Mms.apk on clean .9. I hate the bubbles, but like the direct unlock with the puzzle lock screen.
Are you talking MMS as in pictures? Or texting (SMS)
When using root explorer, I get a message saying there isn't enough room to paste the apk?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I'm running that rom and i havent installed any updates. MMS works on both the stock messaging app and handcent for me. is it kernel specific? or did i just get lucky somehow?

When you install the ROM it gets overwritten automatically It's not like we're doing it on purpose.

I am having the mms-only problem. I am using the 100% original JT super clean 0.9 rom with no extra SMS/MMS apps added or removed. My SMS works great, no duplicates or fails since updating to all the DJ05 stuff, but in-network MMS is completely broken. I tried applying the Mms.apk replacement and it doesn't seem to have worked. I am using the 1212_test kernel, I tried the stupidfast kernel but the battery life was terrible so I prefer this one.
edit: never mind about the touchwiz tray layout, got that figured out.
To confirm, I flashed voodoo 5 stock yesterday ans mms still worked with that fix in handcent.

[ROM] AOSP MIUI (fascinatemtd) 1.6.10 TEST#1 [6-11-2011]

Ok I'm not good at these threads, but here is the 1st build I've put together. This is built from JT's CM7 and MIUI.US Vibrant.
THANK YOU JT, without whom none of this is possible.
THANK YOU #miui-us, for guidance and a vibrant base to start from.
THANK YOU Nitsuj/TSM for pushing me into playing with this idea.
Working:
Calls!!
Bluetooth!!
3G data
WiFi
SMS
Camera/Camcorder
USB mass storage / sdcard
Not Working:
Sensors/GPS/MMS
Main ROM
http://www.multiupload.com/84140ORXAA
Patch (Must be done in Orange MTD Recovery) "adb reboot recovery" is the best way to get there. 3button is not good.
Theme Manager/SuperUser (Thanks MIUI.US Vibrant team)
Rogue Roaming Indicator (Thanks times_infinity)
Signal Strength is now accurate

Found this while researching the issue.
Work Around for Deep Sleep/No Call bug:
1) Install this app "Load Monitor"
2) In the app settings, check "Add Notification", then check "Wake Lock"
3) Set the update interval to 5seconds
This should prevent your device from deep sleep which is of course a batter drain, however you will receive calls. If its worth it or not is up to you.

[ROM][3/16/12] MIUI ICS v4 2.3.16 BETA [4.0.3][Icy Glitch v14]

Since the official MIUI.us ICS ROM has been released, I will not be watching this thread too closely anymore. I will still check in every once in a while to make sure all questions are answered regarding this version. The official forum for the MIUI.us release can be found here. There is also a forum here on XDA: XDA Forum.
P R E S E N T I N G
MIUI ICS v4
Samsung Fascinate
BETA RELEASE
If this is your first time flashing MIUI v4, please read the instructions found here before proceeding: http://goo.gl/8aTyR
Current Version: 2.3.16
Download: http://tinyw.in/ttVR
md5: b77d14b92166f53e9e2fc03f758ec5d7
NOTICE: PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST BEFORE FLASHING THIS ROM. THERE IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON HOW TO FLASH. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE STEPS OUTLINED BELOW WILL RESULT IN BRICKING YOUR PHONE. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ODIN READILY AVAILABLE IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG. THE STEPS OUTLINED BELOW ASSUME YOU'RE RUNNING GINGERBREAD MIUI. IF YOU ARE ALREADY RUNNING TEAMHACKSUNG'S CM9, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FLASH THIS NORMALLY.
I have flashed this several times on my Fascinate, so I suspect there won't be any issues with anyone who is experienced in flashing ROMs. With that said, I will not be held responsible for any damage to your phone by flashing this. Flash at your own risk.
MMS WORK-AROUND
1. Download Set DNS from the Market
2. Open the app, click on the dropdown box and select Custom
3. Enter 8.8.8.8 for DNS1 and 66.174.92.214 for DNS2, hit Apply
4. MMS should now be working
How do I boot into recovery?
To boot into recovery, open the Updater app, press the menu button, and select Reboot to Recovery
What works:
Inbound and outbound calling
Sending and receiving SMS Text Messages
4-Way Reboot Menu
USB Storage
Camera
3G Data
Wifi
MMS (Works with work-around above)
Themes (you have to add a folder called theme to /data/system/)
Bluetooth
Music app
Gallery
Backup app
Alarm clock
Bluetooth
MIUI Music app
Possibly other things
What doesn't work:
Signal bar sometimes shows no signal when there actually is signal (Better, but still not perfect)
As of 2.3.16, Root Permissions doesn't work
GPS
Probably other things
Torch App
Changes/Fixes Implemented in This Release:
Updated ROM to 2.3.16
Got rid of that Roaming Indicator Off message in the status bar
Added the MIUI Torch app (doesn't work yet though)
To Do List:
Fix GPS
Fix signal bars
Find a way to make MMS work without having to change the DNS
Find a way to get themes working without having to manually add the theme folder
OTA updates
Am I missing something? Let me know.
I'm working to get this ROM as bug-free as possible. If you guys find any bugs that aren't listed here, please let me know.
Thanks:
jt1134, sbrissen, teamhacksung and everyone else who is responsible for making cm9 a possibility for the Samsung Fascinate. Also, thanks to MIUI China for the awesome ROM.

do you have themes and things enabled in this? not flashing because of issues. just wondering; I played with porting this about a month ago but never got past some of jts fixes so didn't release anything. one issue I couldnt figure out is themes; most of the systemui did not appear to be themed as it should have been. do you have that working right?
also is the music app in there yet? that's one reason I didn't bother continuing work, it was incomplete in the way of miui apps and stuff.

Themes should work. They were miss placed when we were working on it. all you had to do was create a themes folder in the system folder. I think they are fixed now.

Themes didn't work for me. It would "apply" them, but wouldn't actually change anything. It's pretty cool to see MIUI v4 on the fascinate though, I had fun playing around with it. Although without working data, there's not a whole lot you can do.
One thing that should be remedied is the fact the you cannot boot into recovery from the reboot menu. I had to three-finger into recovery which is a no-no with ICS apparently, and even though my backup looked like it restored normally, it wouldn't boot back up, it would just boot back into recovery. Gonna odin now and get back to THS beta 6.
Thanks for working on this though weblexa, I'm confident that with the help of JT and others in the community, you'll be able to make this a great rom. I never see you in the #samsung-fascinate IRC channel, I do see JT and sbrissen in there quite a bit though and I'm sure they'd probably be the most help with ICS. Just a thought.

Yeah, I really need to start getting on irc more. I'm sure it would be very helpful. I'll look into getting the reboot recovery option back into the reboot menu for my next release. Another option would be to use terminal emulator to reboot to recovery. Haven't tried it with v4 but don't see any reason for it to not work.

AOKP Build 25 Rom Port

First off, all credit should go to Roman and the AOKP team for creating the rom, JT and sbrissen for making the fascinate able to run this setup, Stephen.k.Spear for the first port of this rom, and anyone else I forgot to mention that was involved (sorry). I'm not looking to take this port over or step on any toes, but I just wanted to share an awesome experience with the rest of the fascinate community.
Link to AOKP main site (changelogs, forums, FAQs, etc.)...
http://forum.aokp.co/
Installation instructions (have latest cwm recovery)...
-reboot into recovery via power button reboot options, terminal emulator, or rom manager (no 3 finger reboot if on any ics rom)
-wipe data / factory reset
-flash THS build 2 (not required if already on an ics rom)
-let phone boot up
-reboot into recovery via power button options
-wipe data / factory reset
-flash AOKP build 25
-let phone boot up
Build 25 download link...
http://db.tt/IBc5scHR
Info, fixes, walkarounds...
I based this port off of THS Build 6, and the Toro AOKP build. I included the gmail, market, and file explorer apps (have titanium backup on your sd card and easily browse through the file explorer to install it...then restore your apps). Everything is working flawlessly except for mms. A walkaround is to download setdns from the market (free)...
http://market.android.com/details?id=uk.co.mytechie.setDNS
Open app, choose custom, set dns1 to 8.8.8.8, set dns2 to 66.174.92.214, hit apply, reboot to recovery, wipe cache then dalvik, then reboot. Mms will work identically to all the other mtd based roms (no mms over wifi).
Currently the option in rom control / lockscreen options / enable fast torch is inop so there is no need to add it to the reboot options menu. An easy torch walkaround is to download flashlight + led from the market (free)...
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.devuni.flashlight
This app has a nice option that while on lockscreen, shaking (adjustable) the phone will turn on / off the led camera light, along with a lot of other great options.
Currently the option in rom control / lockscreen options / lockscreen wallpaper is inop due to soft resets over all ports. The original dev is working on it.
As far as nav bar options go, under rom control / power menu options, turn on show nav bar toggle. Then, when you press and hold the power button for reboot options, the option to hide / show the nav bar will be there. After toggling this you may have to rotate, or open a different screen to refresh the screen itself where the nav bar was. You could also just hit lock quick.
While docked, and only when using the dock, the miui battery bar shows charging, along with the info under settings / battery. It doesnt show charging on the battery icon itself, or the lock screen. It is charging though. Ill let the roms creator know about this issue.
When rebooting from reboot menu, you have to press reboot then reboot again in order to reboot normally, otherwise leaving it on reboot will reboot you into recovery. Its as if recovery is default if nothing is physically pressed. This is happening over all ports.
**continue to look at the op for newest info, fixes, etc.**
...will edit original post after work later with a lot more info...

To be honest, I swapped out so many smali files within framework.jar that I'm not sure which exactly fixed it. Its weird because my fascinate never had the wifi toggle bug all, but my wife's did...and I used the same exact procedures on each. Oh well, at least its fixed for good now!

To be honest, I swapped out so many smali files within framework.jar that I'm not sure which exactly fixed it. Its weird because my fascinate never had the wifi toggle bug all, but my wife's did...and I used the same exact procedures on each. Oh well, at least its fixed for good now!

I had the wifi issue as well on all the Stephen Spears roms, but everything is good on this one. Thanks for taking the time, I've been wanting to get on this one but the lack of wifi was a deal killer for me. About 3 days into this one now, and everything has been running smoothly, thanks.
Can anyone tell me the version number of the latest CWM?
And where can I get it?
I searched in XDA there are so many links and couldn't tell which one I should use to flash this rom.
Thanks in advance.

Dammit!! Oops, I mean, Gosh Darnnit! I promised myself I'd stop fiddling with my device and stay on TSM Res. But this sounds like what I've been waiting for. Dammit! If the call volume on speakerphone is a-ok, or I can make it work somehow, this is my last flash...ever...on my Fascinate. For now. Thanks Rick S.

Anyone having issues with POP3 email connections? I've tried every port and incoming settings I can find and still can't get my phone to connect to the server for set up.

[VZW][Team G*N]MIUI 3.8.2 - TouchWiz base - MMS fixed with apn edit

INSTRUCTIONS)
1)Wipe data, cache, and dalvik
2) install Rom zip file
3) Boot into rom. You will likely have working 3g and not 4g. Setup the rom all the way through until you get to the homescreen.
4)Enable root using the permissions app in the security folder. Open an adb shell or run terminal emulator.
5)type su. Hit enter. Type "fixdata.sh" without the quotes. The device will reboot.
6) You will probably now have working 3g and 4g but no voice calls.
7) Apply a new MIUI theme to fix voice calling and reboot
8) PROFIT!
Google apps are now flashed seperately. Use 20121011 release.
ROOT: root works with my build.prop. Open the permissions app in the security center, and enable root.
If you are using an alternate build.prop, you need to remove the lines:
ro.build.type=user
ro.product_ship=true
I've figured out what's causing the sending MMS problem, and it's because the phone.apk can't read the MDN from the phone programming. Fixing it (for now, until I get a better phone.apk) means changing the MMSC lines in apn-conf.xml (which is located in /system/etc) to include your phone number in the string.
Change all the mmsc lines to:
mmsc="http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms?X-VZW-MDN=8605551212"
Of course replacing with your actual phone number and reboot. This should fix sending MMS.
As of 3.8.2, I have changed all the lines to mmsc="http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms?X-VZW-MDN=5555555555"
Replace 5555555555 with your actual phone number, save, fix permissions on the file if necessary, and reboot
If you accidentally go into mobile networks, just run "fixdata.sh" from terminal again
------------------
MIUI 3.8.2 adapted to verizon.
Touchwiz based (keep multiwindow and s-pen functions)
Themes work!!
A few force closes when you boot up but after that very smooth.
DO NOT GO INTO MOBILE NETWORK SCREEN OR YOU WILL LOSE LTE. THIS DOESN'T JUST MEAN DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING. Don't tap mobile networks AT ALL. If you do this, you will have to run fixdata.sh again
KNOWN ISSUES AS OF NOW:
Sending/Receiving MMS works with fix posted above
Phone.apk crashes a few times at bootup (turn off show force closes if you don't want to see it)
3G/1X always shows no signal regardless of actual strength
Going into mobile network screen completely kills LTE - Re-run "fixdata.sh" from terminal or adb shell
Stock theme causes Phone.apk to crash when making a call ---- switch to a different theme and reboot to fix
GOOGLE VOICE WORKS (FOR ME) AS OF 3.5.3

Nice to see it's touchwiz base. I hope it's just as stable. Thanks for your hard work on getting it on the Verizon Note 2.

I'm pretty sure that info is populated by build.prop... and I just have a stock one in there right now... it should be fixed by release time

It wasn't easy. The more knowledgeable devs refused to help me because they thought I was competing with them or something.

I had that problem when I was messing with AOSP on the GS3, I never could get everything figured out, but I eventually found a couple of devs that helped me enormously. The thing I found out is that for every dev that will help you there will be 5 that are either too busy or they are working on the same thing and won't help you cause they think you're competing with them.
That being said, there are a ton of devs on XDA that are great guys/gals and will help you no questions asked.
EDIT:
I just noticed the Mobile Network error you have posted. That was one of the problems on the Verizon Galaxy S3 to start out with as well. One of the devs, Bleelas, had to rewrite the RIL to fix it. If you cant figure it out it may be worth a try to ask him, or the current dev who has taken over his version of MIUI StrumerJohn, and see if they can give you any pointers.
Sorry for the long reply and hijacking your development thread, I just thought that was something you'd wanna know. If not lemme know and I will modify my reply.

Thanks for bringing it to the Vzn Note 2!
very nice work!! thanks
As a heads up, my tester is having problem getting 4g working. I think that you have to be on LTE/CDMA (not global) before you flash this rom. It seems global doesn't work right here.

Does having a touch wiz base mean that we can run the Perseus kernel on it with issue

Folks, I'm going to post this alpha rom right now so I don't get in trouble for a placeholder topic without a rom. The one person who has tested this says he can't get 4g yet. If the band gets set wrong and you can't get 4g, unfortunately you're not going to be able to make calls either. You can go into mobile networks and force 3g only at that point and you will have working 3g and voice calling but not 4g. I'm trying to work out all this stuff but my knowledge is limited.
