[APP] 2ndInit Recovery Installer v2.3 [Updated: 24-April-2012] - Defy Themes and Apps

This is the installer for the 2ndInit Recovery Mod that's been seen on the XDA community in the last days (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026853). This application automates the process of install/uninstall this 2ndInit Recovery.
DO NOT INSTALL THIS IF ARE YOU ALREADY RUNNING CYANOGENMOD. That ROM already has bootmenu pre-installed, and you'll probably end up having to flash an SBF file to recover your phone.
NOTE: You need ROOT installed on your Defy to use this application.
Download from attachment of this post.
UPDATE: Google as suspended my developer account (in their email they seem to think that this was some kind of malware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342343 , but they clearly misunderstood the purpose of the app) and all my apps got removed. So, please download from here on XDA.
When you reach the 2ndInit Boot Menu choose "Custom Recovery" to go to ClockworkMod Recovery.
What's this for?
* Makes it possible to load custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod
* Be able to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery without needing to use an app every time to boot to recovery
This app and the 2ndInit itself do not replace the stock bootloader, or the stock recovery, so it's safe to use on a daily basis.
Thanks to ksubedi and the Korean Devs that helped in making this possible, a large amount of credit goes to them. Also big thanks to Skrilax_CZ who was the first to develop the 2ndInit method on Android.
How to update
If you have previously installed this app, to update the BootMenu just install this new one, and press "Install 2ndInit Recovery", you don't need to uninstall first. You'll know that it updated correctly when you boot into BootMenu, notice the version that displays on top.
Changelog
version 2.3 (24-April-2012):
IMPORTANT NOTE : I've made this version with Defy Plus support in mind, I've tested it with 2 different stock Defy Plus and it works very well. I've not tested it with the Defy (MB525) myself but who have report it works just as well. Since many people where having problems with online install I've also made this one install everything offline, if you want the custom URL feature use the previous version instead.
* Using latest bootmenu 1.1.8 (provided by CyanogenDefy sources)
* Using latest CWM Recovery 5.0.3.1 (provided by CyanogenDefy sources)
* Cleaner UI, with colors to indicate status and bottom buttons
* Added ads via admob (since I don't use the Defy myself nowadays, this comes as an incentive for me to keep working in 2ndInit)
version 2.0 (23-November-2011):
* Using latest bootmenu 1.0.7 (provided by CyanogenDefy, special thanks to Epsyson3)
* Using new busybox static binary inside the app. Newer, smaller (which in turn made the APK smaller as well), better. Also comes from cyanogenmod.
* Pop-up layout prompting for install a bit better now, and its strings are now translatable from resources
version 1.9 (6-July-2011):
* Install from custom URL now possible
* Added translation to Russian (contributed by _ReBoot_ )
* Some smaller bugfixes
version 1.8 (1-June-2011):
* Now users are able to choose between bootmenu versions they want to install (so you can select stable 0.6.1 for installing Cyanogen, or latest 0.8.6 for other ROMs, etc)
* By consequence the APK is smaller, since bootmenu versions rest on the web
* Ability to install your own bootmenu from a given URL (for advanced users ONLY!)
* Updated to DEV version bootmenu v. 0.8.6
** fix 2nd-init (support new 2.3.3 kernel)
** add [email protected] (require new 2.3.3 kernel)
** Bugfixes on scripts and CWM3
* Fixed cleanup after install
version 1.7 (15-May-2011):
* Updated to bootmenu v. 0.8.3
** Bugfixes on scripts and CWM3
Some people reported that they were unable to properly flash cyanogen with the last version, I've tested this one, with both Cyanogen and MIUI and it's working ok.
version 1.6 (13-May-2011):
* Added Instructions and Changelog menus
* Updated to use BootMenu v0.8.0
** add overclock. (Menu→System→Overclock)
** bugs fixes
** script fixes
** updated ClockworkMod Recovery to version 3028
version 1.5 didn't release, since 0.8.0 came out the the I was going to do so
version 1.4 (7-May-2011):
* Added About menu
*Updated to use BootMenu v0.6.1
** run-parts /system/bootmenu/init.d/
** add root/unroot
** add uninstall bootmenu
** add USB Mass Storage
** update busybox (v0.19)
** change menu
** fix top menu ↔ bottom menu
** bugfixes
version 1.3 (17-April-2011):
*Updated to use BootMenu v0.5.1
** Bug Fixes
** Few Changes In UI (Background)
** Updated All Scripts, Better Compatibility With Most ROMs
** Changed Directory Structure
* Now checks for USB debug on previous to installing (safe mechanism)
* Now re-verifies if 2ndInit Recovery is installed right after install/uninstall
version 1.2 (14-April-2011):
* Updated to use BootMenu v0.4.5
** Bug Fixes
** Changed Name Of OpenRecovery To Custom Recovery
** ADB Daemon Works Now
** Few Minor Changes...
* Now uninstall is cleaner and more consistent
Note: If you have previously installed this app, to update the BootMenu just install this new one, and press "Install 2ndInit Recovery", you don't need to uninstall first.
Note 2: for people who have installed the previous version, this uninstall just works partially, that is, it removes the bootmenu, but the logwrapper is not restored to the original one. This was the behavior of the previous version uninstall button. Since the new install backups these replaced files, people who have installed only this new version, will have a proper and cleaner uninstall. For those who installed the previous version to restore logwrapper you can restore some old nandroid, or simply flash an SBF file.
version 1.1 : first release on android market, and some improvements
version 1.0 : first release
FAQ
Q: I've flashed a new SBF file and now the blue led doesn't show up anymore.
A: You have to install and app again, and install the mod from the app again, as the flashing of that new ROM replace the BootMenu with it's own.
Q: Does the app have to be always installed?
A: No, you only install this app in order to use the Install button, and then you can uninstall the app, and the 2ndInit will persist. You'll still be able to re-install the app if you want to use the Uninstall button later for some reason.
Q: I can't flash from recovery, I get an sdcard mount error.
A: It seems to be related with phone's who are using version 2.51. To solve, try to flash any recent SBF file. If you want to do a nandroid first, check if SD Recovery works for you.
If you have suggestions or bug reports, or any other questions, please use this thread.

Can i use this tool on stock eclair 2.51 FR rom?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

I've not tested on Eclair ROMs, so I can't know for sure, but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work on Eclair. If you know how to flash .sbf files go ahead and test, you can recover the phone later if it doesn't boot, or just wait for someone with eclair to test and report.

Is it necessary to reboot 2 times?

works very nice thanks!

Works great!

In my tests it worked with just rebooting 1 time, but since the original hack on which this is based upon says to reboot 2 times, I prefer to play safe and tell people to reboot 2 times as well. Notice that you just need to reboot 2 times on the install, isn't that hard to do, since you just do that install 1 time for each ROM you have. Better safe than sorry right?

You're right. In fact, I can enter the menu in the first boot after installing. Another issue, after uninstall the recovery, I find the blue light still up every boot, the menu can still be entered in except saying missing some files. Is there a process of restoring the original "bootmenu, logwrapper, logwrapper.bin"?

Wow those claims seem to be pretty adventurous has anyone been successful in running a custom kernal with this app?

check to creating nandroid backup,
yes it works
thanks

Remove custom kernel bull****, it's not 2nd-init relevant.

Works out of the box.
Thanks.

Yes, Quarx is working on CM7 for the Defy, and has already been able to boot it, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12832992&postcount=74
So, in my point of view, being able to load a custom kernel is relevant.
---
@sunoldman
Yes, the uninstall just removes parts of the menu right now. In the next version I'll backup those files to be able to do a cleaner and proper uninstall. However, the people who have installed this version will not have those backups. There's two solutions, I provide the files (since they don't change that much from ROM to ROM) or they flash an SDB.

The one that is used by Tenfar and kb7sqi, that is, version 2.5.1.8 .

That kernel in cm7 doesn't seem to be custom, gingerbread uses 2.6.35 kernel, the kernel shown is the one I use on Pays's froyo rom.

Alright, I guess you're right, I'll remove that from the description then.

i want running cyanogenmod or ultimate droid rom

[NIGHTLY][ROM][GWK74] CyanogenMod 7 (w/ Gingerbread 2.3.7) for Galaxy SII Q&A

CyanogenMod 7 (w/ Gingerbread 2.3.7) for Galaxy SII
The only rule of CyanogenMod: you don't ask for ETAs. You install, your warranty is void.
Warning : Not for new users, flash this build only if you know what you are doing !!!
FAQ (Please Read!!)
What is CyanogenMod (by mad-murdock)?
CyanogenMod is the only open source rom, that runs on 40+ different devices. we got around 45 devs (people who really write code and tweak things to make it work better - in contrast to cooks, who only use winzip to exchange this vs. that binary thingie) constantly making cyanogenmod better.
as background, you might wanna know, that google usually releases the sourcecode to their products (where honeycomb is the first exception, but thats another matter, ICS will be open source again). but when google releases their source code, you cannot compile it for ANY phone and it runs on it. thats the first part, we jump it - make it compatible with all the phones we support.
once it basicly runs, its time for what we call "cm extras" - we modify a lot on the gui and the system to make it run better. some stuff you as a user will never see involving tweaking libs and kernels, and some stuff you as a user will see a lot, like including theme manager, dsp manager, cm settings (cm settings are about as huge as the normal settings are). those settings range from simple "dont display clock in status bar" to complex profiles (as known from old nokia phones) or remapping of some keys (long press home, remapp search button behavior)
its way to much to list it all here, but i can assure you, cm is fast, usually stable on most devices and VERY VERY customizable - both in grafical ways as also in behavior way.

Q: How do I install this?
A:
Latest version: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxys2 (for when nightlies are working normally)
Check the md5sum if you want to be sure that the download worked (different OSes have different programs that do md5, on ubuntu it is md5sum that you run against the zip you download and compare to the md5sum number shown on the download website). ROMManager does this automatically for ROMs you download via ROMManager.
- First time flashing CM 7 to your Galaxy S2 (or coming from another ROM)?
Only for the International version of the Galaxy S2, US versions like the AT&T have their own device specific builds.
Note: sometimes you need to flash twice back to back without a reboot in the middle. The install should take a little time, if it happens very quickly, flash again.
Install via ClockworkMod (do not use ROMManager for initial install):
Make sure you're running a rooted device.
Root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693)
Do a Nandroid backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition) - do it for real.
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery.
Do not reboot! We mean it - do nothing except choose zip and continue next step (if you come back to us with permission issues in install, we will know you did not read the directions and will call you an idiot). If it just plain hangs, reboot directly back into ClockworkMod recovery and continue at the next step.
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery, again (due to a bug in the install).
Reboot
Install the Google Addon through ROMManager which is easiest, but you can
download the gapps.zip and install via ClockworkMod recovery instead.
- Upgrading from earlier CM7?
ROM Manager method:
Install ROMManager Premium.
Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Pick Samsung Galaxy S2.
Choose Download ROMs.
Pick the CyanogenMod Nightlies.
Check the Google Apps addon.
Check Backup current ROM!
Check wipe cache, dalvik cache.
Let ROMManager finish the installation.
Clockwork Mod method:
Download and push the ROM zip file to the sdcard.
Reboot into recovery.
Do a Nandroid Backup!
Install the ROM zip from sdcard (your Google apps will be backed up automatically)
There are no Google Apps bundled with CM ROMs, because Google asked Cyanogen to remove copyrighted apps. After flashing the rom, don't forget to flash Google Addon package if you want it. ROM Manager will allow you to flash it if you just go into it and after flashing the ClockworkMod recovery for Samsung Galaxy S2, choose Download ROMs, and pick Google Apps. Or download and push the gapps zip for CM7 from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version#Google_Apps to the sdcard and flash it via ClockworkMod recovery.
- Going to another ROM from CM7?
You can go back and forth freely between CM7 and other ROMs via ROM Manager or ClockworkMod recovery as the file systems are the same and nandroid backup/restore works to go between ROMs.
Q: What are the known issues?
A: Issues that I can remember:
- Video playback - some formats are not recognized, use an alternative app for video playback
- Camera - some modes don't work
- TVout, MHL
- FMRadio
- Issues when using the 2G/3G-Switch
- Volume issues (some report too high, others too low)
Q: Where do I see the Changelogs?
A: http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=galaxys2 - this shows all the
changes that have gone into a nightly, including anything that is device specific to Galaxy S2 and anything that has gone into common code that is also included on Galaxy S2. If you see another device sometimes in the Galaxy S2 changelog, it is because the changes were done to common code and the repository is also included on the Galaxy S2.
Q: Can I flash over a previous version of CM7?
A: If updating from an already CM7 running SGSII phone, just flash the latest update zip file as it contains all the fixes from previous updates.
Q: I just installed and I don't see the Marketplace, cannot see GMail, cannot sync Contacts.
Q: I just installed and I don't see any Google Apps.
A: You need to install the Google apps. They are available in ROMManager. ROMManager also asks you if you want to install the Google Apps addon when you install via ROMManager.
Q: My phone is running too hot, my phone is not going into deep sleep
A: Try to isolate which application is using too much CPU. The first thing to try is to remove your media (video, music etc) files. Files recorded using Samsung camera, but other files as well, can frequently cause the stock Media Scanner to fail and go into an infinite loop. Then try to isolate which files are causing problems, and report them to us. If it isn't media, then it is some other application. Try to remove that application if it is a third-party application (and report a bug to them).
Q: I cannot find my media files that are on my external sd card
A: Look under /mnt/emmc as that is where CM7 mounts the external sd card as opposed to /mnt/sdcard/external_sd that Samsung ROMs use.
Q: Can I run Samsung Applications like Kies, Phone, Email, AllShare?
A: No. Any applications that use special calls into the Samsung TouchWiz framework will not work.
Q: I restored from Titanium Backup but my applications are not working
A: Do not restore system data, only restore application+user data. CM7 uses new system data and if you restore on top of it, things will not work.
Q: Your notification toggles are different than mine, how can I change them?
A: Go into Settings, CyanogenMod Settings, Interface, Notification power widget, Widget buttons
Q: My Notification bar Sound widget does not toggle through the options.
A: Settings > CyanogenMod Settings > Interface > Notification Power Widgets > Widget Buttons > Sound Modes and set the modes you want it to toggle through.
Q: I really miss the accurate battery mods, can I flash these?
A: No, but you can go into Settings, CyanogenMod Settings, Interface, Status bar tweaks, "Battery percentage"
Q: Where can I get themes for this?
A: A quick search for "theme engine" on the market will produce a number of results, but there are some in the general Android Themes section
Q: Can I use the video player/music player/contacts/phone/launcher from a Samsung ROM?
A: No, anything hooking into Samsung's framework will not work on this ROM, there are plenty of alternatives in the market.
Q: Where can I get the Nexus S drivers?
A: Download and install the Android SDK here then download "Google USB Driver package, revision 4"
Once downloaded, right click on "Computer", "Manage", "Device Manager", "Nexus S", "Update Driver Software", and point it to wherever you installed the SDK
Q: How do I go back to a Samsung stock ROM?
A: Just use ClockworkMod or ROM Manager backup/restore facility to go back and forth between stock (or any other ROM) and CM7.
Q: Can I use ROM Manager to install or back up this ROM?
A: Yes.
Q: Why do I not see the nightlies in ROM Manager?
A: Nightly builds are only visible in the premium version of ROM Manager. Nightly builds should up in ROM Manager when the CyanogenMod buildbot builds the nightly successfully. Every new device needs to also get added to the ROM Manager manifest before it is available. But, the same files are also available at http://download.cyanogenmod.com when the buildbot successfully builds a nightly.
Q: Why can't I play .avi or .mkv files? They worked fine with Samsung's ROM.
A: Due to codec licensing issues, this can't be provided out of the box. Several apps from the marketplace should be able to replicate this feature (such as RockPlayer). We will also try to put these enhancements into CM7 ourselves.
Q: I encountered a bug, how do I find out if it's known and where can I report it?
A: Try to get the logcat output and last_kmsg to your report by:
Code:
desktop$ adb logcat > logcat.txt
desktop$ adb shell
# cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg (only if you had crash/reboot)
# dmesg > /sdcard/dmesg.txt
# exit
desktop$ adb pull /sdcard/last_kmsg .
desktop$ adb pull /sdcard/dmesg.txt .
Attach the logcat.txt and last_kmsg files to the bug report. Of course, you need to have the android SDK installed to do this.

Firstly, I love the first release of CM for the S2....very quick.
I have successfully replaced the samsung apps I liked, and i have gapps installed. One question is, now when I go into the market on my PC it says I have no Android devices to send the apps too.
On the S2, the market is fine.
any ideas?
I can see in Rom managet premium only cognition and darks rom. Is it normal? Anyone else witht the same stats?

There is nothing to do for this time.

Issue gonna be FIX, by next build's
i just have one question, someone said they used kg1 modem does that actually stay or would cm7 just overwrite it anyway?
since im too noob to post in development section i want to thank you all at teamhacksung for this
Also...why was the stock camera app replaced with one that is worse? (Camcorder is worse.) Its a great rom. But can someone explain this to me?

[ROM]EUViewpad7 v1.7b (Updatev1.7b.zip for v1.7 users only)

ROM Name: EUViewpad 7
Based on: Stock EU firmware (froyo 2.2.2) for Viewpad 7
This build is for Viewsonic Viewpad 7 and similar devices.
Because none of the other custom roms I could find for this device included my native language as a display option I decided to build my own custom firmware using the stock firmware. I've applied the best fixes I could find in other custom roms for this device and also included some of my own.
Version 1.5
Replaces android 2.2 with android 2.2.2. Some minor tweaks to the framework are added and some small issues are fixed (youtube green bar.)
Since some people still seem to have problems with wifi, mostly due to old settings still maintained after flashing a new rom. I added a small script that removes /misc2/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf on first boot which should solve it for most people.
Version 1.6
Fixes the market incompatibility found in V1.5. Reverted back to the older market which doesn't have this problem and removed the market updater. Due to an error in the build.prop the stagefright player was being disabled. That has been fixed so quadrant scores should return to normal. s2k7 has provided a non overclocked kernel with init.d support, based on that I've provided an ITE version. This version is exactly the same as the non-ITE version, except for the alternate boot.img. I have not tested this as I do not have a device with ITE hardware.
Version 1.7
- More languages (French, Italian, Spanish, Asian)
- Cleaned up /system to create more free space for file manipulation.
- Updated Apps with new icons for ic_menus.
- updated framework-res.apk with new images and styles
- updated Flash Player to 10.2
Version 1.7b
- Added languages Chinese and Taiwanese (I guess from country strings, can't read it)
- Updated framework-res.apk with black on white menu (instead of white on black) to match the theme.
- Updated browser.apk with new menu icons. Most people will probably install another browser, but I like the stock one, it's very small and light.

- Fully deodexed, optimized and zipalligned ROM
- ROM is rooted (latest version of Superuser.apk + su binary installed)
- Custom Boot animation and sounds
- added apps: Hacker's keyboard, Flash Player 10.2, Quick Boot, ES File explorer
- removed apps: Aldiko, Touchpal_M20, stock file explorer

3. Upon power up you will see the birds logo and 'enter recovery' text in the top left corner of the screen.
4. Use the volume keys to step through the menu, power to select and back. (there is bug in clockwork when you press volume keys it jumps 2 steps; to jump one step press and hold volume and then press power to select)
5. Select the "advanced->Partition SD Card" item, next select size for your Apps2SD partition (1024MB recommended), next select 0 as size of swap partition. (Remember that this will delete all data on your SD card, so make backup of SD card if you need !!!)
6. When the partitioning is done select the "reboot system now" item.
7. Using USB cable connection or SD card reader copy EUViewpad7v1.0.zip to root folder of SD card.
8. Power down your device.
9. Power on device holding power button and both volume keys simultaneously.
10. Select the "backup and restore->Backup" item to make a backup of the current firmware in case something goes wrong. The backed up ROM should be located in: /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/date&time/
11. Select the "wipe data/factory reset->Yes – delete all user data” to clear old stuff.
12. Select the "install zip from sdcard->choose zip from sdcard" item and select EUViewpad7v1.0.zip.
13. After flashing will be done select the "reboot system now" item. First boot may take a few minutes.
Migrate from stock or another build:
1. Make backup of your phone using Titanium Backup (select all user applications).
2. Copy all files and folders from SD card to local folder on your computer.
3. Install Clockwork Recovery Partition, create partition on SD card and install ROM as described in installation guide.
4. Copy all files and folders from local folder on your computer back to SD card.
5. Restore applications using Titanium Backup and reboot your phone.

Additional Instructions
Returning to stock firmware:
To return to a stock firmware, you need to use the SUT L3 software to flash original firmware. Here is a small guide and the necessary software.
Flashing to this firmware before installing an EUVviewpad rom seems to fix the wifi problems some people have.
1. Download SUT L3 v1.7.9
2. Download the following rom:
- Download Firmware 3420
3. Unzip the files you downloaded
4. Install SUT L3 on windows
5. Start SUT L3 and click next
6. Check in the bottom left corner if you see the message: A phone is connected (if it is not, you need to install the correct drivers. You can do this by running setup.exe from the virtual CD of the viewpad)
7. Select the rom you downloaded and click next.
8. Your viewpad should now reboot into clockwork recovery and after a few seconds switch to download mode and start flashing the new firmware. This will take a few minutes after which the phone will reboot and start to the stock os.
After this you can choose to root it with SuperOneclick, install cwrecovery and any custom rom.
Installing Touchpal keyboard:
In Version 1.7 Touchpal keyboard has been removed. Here's how to reinstall it:
1. Download this zip: Touchpal.zip
2. Extract the zip to a folder on your sdcard. (for example /sdcard/touchpal
3. Browse to the folder using ES File explorer on the viewpad
4. Install Touchpal_M20.apk and any language packs you want.
5. Go to Settings > Language & Keyboard and activate Touchpal.
6. Long press any text input field and select Input Method
7 From the list, select touchpal.

Seems that I didnt test the wifi drivers included in the v1.0 release as well as I thought. While i have no problems with finding and connecting to my AP I can't get a proper internet connection for some reason.
I've reverted the rom back to the Stock EU 2.2 wifi drivers (have no problems with those) and updated the OP with the v1.1 version. Please use V1.1 and only try V1.0 if you have problems with your wifi. I will look into this some more.
My current wishlist of things I plan (hope) to do with this rom:
- Integrate V6 Supercharger script with best settings for Viewpad7 to improve memory performance.
- Install a nice battery icon (Battery Icon Mod?)
- create a new notification bar (i'm thinking transparent or shaded)
- change the default background
- tweak, tweak, tweak.
It would be nice to eventually set up a Custom ROM kitchen for this device, but for now i'll focus on improving this rom.
Original TouchPAL_M20 is still in the rom, I've remove some of the language packs for it to save space, but I can allways add those back in on request.

Good idea! I didn't even know what an APN list was till you mentioned it, but ill try to find the most complete one around and add that to the next version.
By New Market, do you mean the most recent version of the market app preinstalled ? Because this one should just update automagically and work fine, but it wouldn't be to much work to add the most recent one to the rom.
I'm looking into the wifi problem.
Can people with wifi problems on my rom please start up in rtm mode (press volume down and power) and give me HWver and SWver of their device ?

Bravo, excellent to see someone working on a customized Froyo ROM optimized for our "cute" tablet - spouse's been playing Angry Birds on it and until I can get it NAND and Titanium backed up this weekend when she's asleep, I won't get my hands on it to flash this one.
Just curious whether this ROM support the newer Touchscreen or ITE hardware (I'm assuming that it will since it's based on OS 2.2.2 just like ours for the North America regions.) Please advise before I give this a full run with a full wipe & install. BTW, it connect to our 2 wifi routers just fine (1 in g mode-WEP and 1 n mode-WPA2.)
RTM & related info (as shipped)
SWVer 3.41
FM6-0001
HWVer 107
VPAD7 - 2.2.2
2.6.32.9
1008_3.350
FM6-316R (3/22/11)
SUTL3 V1.6.5 (and 1.7.9)
The custom (Froyo Enhanced) non-overclocked ROM I'm running now is based on Froyo 2.2.1 and ITE compatible - Baseband PR3.7_125, Kernel Apps_2.6.32.9 and Build 1008_3_240
Suggestions for the next update -
Status Bar - Interface tweaks by adding Power Widgets (easier to turn on/off wifi, orientation, bluetooth, volume, brightness, airplane mode, etc.)
Also, I changed from stock to ADW Launched, downloaded easily from the "new" Market and installed with Astro FM - as I can lock down the Homescreens so that other "borrowing" & playing with it won't accidently move or delete my desktop icons, etc. etc.
Google Maps V5.9 has been out (and has many useful additions & support for tablets) and so far, it's been reported as relatively stable & NOT prone to FC or reboot, unlike earlier 5.x releases - so it's probably worth the update from the stock 4.5 ?? version as shipped.
I've managed to move some apps & data to the 16GB mSD card but definitely having App2SD or similar will free up internal phone storage space so that I can load more Apps onto it.

Hello,
This looks interesting. I only want to overclock and then restore to my present line-up of apps and will be installing mainly to get the overclocked kernel.
Q: Can I skip the whole 2sd process and not partition when installing this? Great and important feature, but no way to back-up my SD right now so would like to skip that and just benefit from the oc kernel. Or will that not work?
Also, could you please clarify what exactly the difference is from CleanViewpad. Does CleanV also have overclocked kernel?
Thanks!

I think that the main differences are that this has more European languages than CleanViewPad as well as the newest version of Darktremor's Apps 2 SD script. I'm pretty sure that this ROM will function even though you have no ext3 partition on your microSD as the apps are still able to be installed on the internal memory and are - if I remember correctly - installed there by default.

This rom is based on OS 2.2, not 2.2.2 and it's using tjstyle's overclocked kernel, which does not support ITE hardware.
My own viewpad 7 on which i'm developing this rom is SWVer: 3.16R (earliest i've seen so far) and it seems that people with newer versions are suffering from the wifi problem.
I'm going to have to do some more research and experiment a little, but it would help me a lot if someone could provide me with a CWM backup of the stock firmware of the newer devices. rooted or modded doesn't matter, as long as it's still stock firmware and not a custom rom.

Yeah, I tried installing Cleanpad and am using it right now, no problem skipping those steps there so...
So by installing this ROM I get more Euro languages and a newest version of Apps2SD? Excuse me, but I can get the latest version of it on CleanViewpad, it's descriped in its thread here. So unless I want a custom ROM with a Euro language, other than English, French and German, which are included in CleanViewpad, there's no point installing this?
Yes, I believe that's pretty much it sø far, but Amalgation have more things cooking for this ROM and is active in this subforum.

I've started this build mainly for support of the EU languages in this firmware, and I haven't done much else except integrate the best fixes (imo) I could find. I'm working on creating my own framework mod and improved memory management among other things, but it's a work in progress and for now I try to focus on getting this rom to work for as many people as possible.
So for now, if you're not interested in the EU languages, this might not be the rom for you.
Yep, you're right, and that's good, and so are the languages for whoever might need them.
I'm happy with CleanViewpad as it's problem-free and not too ugly, and basically just overclocked CPU and Apps2SD support. Which is all I'm looking for.
But I'm gonna stay tuned here. Nice that others appreciate this device!

What is CyanogenMod (in less terse form - by mad-murdock)?
since i am a bit idle right now, i try to answer this.
cyanogenmod is the only open source rom, that runs on 40+ different devices. we got around 45 devs (people who really write code and tweak things to make it work better - in contrast to cooks, who only use winzip to exchange this vs. that binary thingie) constantly making cyanogenmod better.
as background, you might wanna know, that google usually releases the sourcecode to their products (where honeycomb is the first exception, but thats another matter, ICS will be open source again). but when google releases their source code, you cannot compile it for ANY phone and it runs on it. thats the first part, we jump it - make it compatible with all the phones we support.
once it basicly runs, its time for what we call "cm extras" - we modify a lot on the gui and the system to make it run better. some stuff you as a user will never see involving tweaking libs and kernels, and some stuff you as a user will see a lot, like including theme manager, dsp manager, cm settings (cm settings are about as huge as the normal settings are). those settings range from simple "dont display clock in status bar" to complex profiles (as known from old nokia phones) or remapping of some keys (long press home, remapp search button behavior)
its way to much to list it all here, but i can assure you, cm is fast, usually stable on most devices and VERY VERY customizable - both in grafical ways as also in behavior way.

Q: How do I install this?
A:
Latest version:
Temporarily while buildbot is down:
You can get it from ROM Manager (look for teamhacksung builds for Galaxy SII AT&T) or
http://www.multiupload.com/RT29P7AOFS (md5: c8115d0a01d0a47b286ff5c9cc504175)
Previous kang: http://www.multiupload.com/A30J9DZN37 (md5: a23d1b99ff73da31e5d0421ec18e15e3)
Normally: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=galaxys2att
Check the md5sum if you want to be sure that the download worked (different OSes have different programs that do md5, on ubuntu it is md5sum that you run against the zip you download and compare to the md5sum number shown on the download website). ROMManager does this automatically for ROMs you download via ROMManager.
- First time flashing CM 7 to your Galaxy S2 (or coming from another ROM)?
Note: You may need to flash twice back to back if the first one goes by too quickly - the actual flash takes a little time and sometimes the first flash doesn't "stick".
Install via ClockworkMod recovery (do not use ROMManager for initial install):
Pick Samsung AT&T Galaxy S2.
ROM Manager will allow you to flash it if you just go into it and after flashing the ClockworkMod recovery for AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2, choose Download ROMs, and pick Google Apps. Or download and push the gapps zip for CM7 from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version#Google_Apps to the sdcard and flash it via ClockworkMod recovery.
- Going to another ROM from CM7?
You can go back and forth freely between CM7 and other ROMs via ClockworkMod recovery as the file systems are the same and nandroid backup/restore works to go between ROMs.
Q: What are the known issues?
A: Issues that I can remember:
- Video playback - some formats are not recognized, use an alternative app for video playback
- Camera - some video and still modes don't work
- TVout, MHL
- Dock
Q: Where do I see the Changelogs?
A: http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=galaxys2att - this shows all the changes that have gone into a nightly, including anything that is device specific to Galaxy S2 and anything that has gone into common code that is also included on Galaxy S2.
Q: Can I run Samsung Applications like Kies, Phone, Email, AllShare?
A: No. Any applications that use special calls into the Samsung TouchWiz framework will not work.
Q: I cannot find my media files that are on my external sd card
A: Look under /mnt/emmc as that is where CM7 mounts the external sd card as opposed to /mnt/sdcard/external_sd that Samsung ROMs use.
Q: My Status bar Sound widget does not toggle through the options.
A: Settings > CyanogenMod Settings > Interface > Notification Power Widgets > Widget Buttons > Sound Modes and set the modes you want it to toggle through.
And one more.
Running very smooth on the sgs2 keep up the great work.

Tried MIUI and CM7...
Obvious bugs are the back button not working.
But the major one is I can't hear anyone on a call and they can't hear me. Complete silence...both MIUI and CM7. Kernel issue? Known issue?
My order is in, should be seeing my Galaxy S II very soon, stoked!
I'll be testing just about everything pushed out once its here, I'll be reporting back as much as possible can't wait!

I didn't even know there was a MIUI for AT&T Samsung Galaxy SII yet. As far as no sound - we haven't been able to test anything ourselves as we don't have a device to test on yet (maybe in a couple of days). The code itself hasn't changed much, but it is possible you're seeing something valid that we'll have to fix.

[ROM] (4/15/12) KlassicROM 2.3.6 for YP-G1 USA + INTL [R5: FINAL]

Klin's Klassic 2.3.6 ROM for Galaxy Player 4.0 USA + INTLLatest Version: R5
Future updates now managed by hanthesolo here
I have done the best I could with this ROM, and it has been a great learning experience for me. Unfortunately, I don't have time to continue to release new versions, and I feel it's easier if I just mod my own ROM I am using to my personal use. That way I can customize it the way I want without having to suit the needs of others, and I don't have to deal with those who are ungrateful and take any help from XDA for granted. But once CM7 (big thanks to tdmcode) becomes fairly stable, I *might* consider using it as a base and creating a new custom ROM for the public. But for now, I am no longer developing ROMs, but I will still continue my kernel. (BTW, R2 changes are already on GitHub, just need to compile them now)
Well, still, thanks to all those who supported my first custom ROM!

I've been working on a new ROM, and instead of updating Klassic I will start over completely with a newer and different ROM. Hanthesolo has taken over and will be using my ROMs as a base for his.
As I was messing with my Galaxy Player, I discovered that ROMs for these devices can be swapped between the INTL and USA versions as long as you have the right kernel. This ROM is based off of 2.3.6 XXKPQ for the International YP-G1 but can work for the USA version too. Enjoy

Installation Instructions in 2nd Post
Special thanks to:
- zeppelinrox for his V6 Supercharger
- SteveS for his custom kernel
- Choucas06 for making a dump of the 2.3.6 firmware a while ago.
- Entropy512, rumirand, Meticulus, and many others not mentioned here.
- XDA for this forum
- Lastly, thank YOU for being part of this community.
If you like my ROM, please click 'thanks'. It keeps me encouraged to continue to share my work.
Please don't post errors or issues unless you have DONE A WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET and still have those issues. Seriously, a simple reset can solve all sorts of problems.
How to Install:
WARNING: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DO SOMETHING DUMB AND BRICK YOUR DEVICE. You are flashing at your own risk. Thank you.
Note: If you are updating from a previous version of Klassic, you most likely do not need to wipe data/factory reset, but still wipe cache and dalvik-cache for best results.
1. Install the appropriate Steve's kernel for your device (USA or INTL) from here and make a CWM backup just in case anything goes wrong.
2. Download the file klassic_2.3.6.rar from the download link.
3. Extract the .rar file.
4. Boot into download mode and connect to your PC. Make sure you have Kies installed so you have the USB Drivers.
4. Open Odin, check the PDA box and select klassic_2.3.6.tar.
5. Do NOT use a PIT file or select repartition.
6. Click start, and wait for it to finish flashing.
7. After flashing, boot into CWM recovery, 'wipe cache partition', and 'wipe dalvik cache'. This is VERY important and can fix bootlooping.
8. It is recommended to do a 'wipe data/factory data reset', but if you don't have any problems with the new ROM then you don't have to.
9. Reboot, and now you have your new ROM!
If you appreciate my work and want to encourage me to keep developing, don't post "thanks", just click it!
I download it and test it.
Give you feedback later
I love it.
Tested it and works good
But i replaced it with my own theme
So, has anyone noticed what is different about the 2.3.6 update? Thanks for your work klin1344
Finally a ROM for my Galaxy Player. Will it be possible to make it a clockwork zip?

Probably not, because this ROM can work with stock kernels that don't have CWM.

Here is my problem. Odin doesn't work in 64 bit Windows for me and it obviously doesn't work in Ubuntu. Can't use Heimdall because the Galaxy Player isn't supported. I'm already running a custom kernel.
I am currently working on smooth scrolling mod and advanced power menu mod. They will probably be included in r2. Also, I suggestions/ideas for new features are welcome, just don't say unreasonable stuff like cm9 or something cuz this is all pretty new to me and I'm not a real dev.

Maybe you could look over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22843154
It seems like someone got Heimdall working on the Galaxy players. If you try that and it doesn't work, then I will consider making it CWM compatible.
Edit: wait... Are you sure Odin doesn't work in 64 bit Windows? I have a computer with 64 bit Windows 7 and flashing with Odin worked for me.
Ok, tested it on 64bit.
result as of now: Infinite Bootloop at start up.
Can someone extract me the /system folder of a YP-G1?
It loops after the kernel.
As i have CWM i can look in Logs and so on, when some can say me where i find this logs.
Thank you.

Did you wipe dalvik cache and cache?
Yes... I think i need a odin or cwm flash file for /data and /system. Cause /data is empty after flashing...
I thought that CWM doesn't flash /data. So i need a factory reseted /data.
Thanks,
Mike Leitner.

OK I'm confused. This ROM only flashes /system. Please be as specific as possible and explain exactly what is wrong now and what you did to get there.
For now, and you could try wipe data/factory reseted in CWM.
Silly me. I forgot to install Kies after I overhauled my computer. Now it works great.
Do I actually need Kies to install this rom, or just the Samsung USB drivers that Win7 installed afterward?
The reason I ask is that I keep getting a connection error in Kies, telling me to connect in Studio Mode. This is after installing and uninstalling 3 different Kies versions from 2.0xxx to 2.1xxx. After trying to connect unsuccessfully for about an hour, I got pissed off and uninstalled Kies but the USB drivers are still installed.
Thanks for making this rom and thanks for any advice.

As long as odin recognizes your player, then you are good to go and can flash the ROM.

[ROM][Player4][US/Intl] Cyanogenmod 10.2 for the Galaxy Player 4.0

CyanogenMod 10.2 is a free, community built distribution of Android 4.3 (Jellybean) which greatly extends the capabilities of your phone.
Code:
#include
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
This is a preview build of CM10.2 for the Samsung Galaxy Player 4. It may cause all the things in the disclaimer to happen, or steal your girlfriend while you are busy flashing ROMs.
Note: Please backup your efs in case of something goes wrong (the zip should backup it but we're never too sure) To do so execute this command:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/stl3 of=/sdcard/efs.rfs
Preview Install instructions:
*** If upgrading from CM9 or CM10 or even CM10.1, it is recommended that you wipe data.
1. Download cm-9-20130402-kernel-preflash.zip
md5: 4a900fcddbc3d81d121a7b9c9d4bb0a0
2. Download cm-10.2-20140210-UNOFFICIAL-ypg1
3. Make all your backups.
4. Make sure your efs is intact (not blank).
5. Boot into recovery, make more backups.
6. Flash cm-9-20130402-kernel-preflash.zip (temporary workaround for first-time install from stock)
7. Flash cm-10.2-20140210-UNOFFICIAL-ypg1
Note: To all those flashing 09/29 build and later, if you're in an old build of CM10.2, PLEASE RESTORE YOUR /EFS AFTER UPDATING!!!!. I moved the /efs partition and some items will get deleted prior flashing the update. It can lead to some issue with touchscreen with US devices.
Installation Notes:
When you install for the first time, there is a conversion to the new MTD partition layout. The installer will flash the new kernel and reboot. It is possible for this process to hang up on the samsung logo (still working that part out). It is normal to see the Samsung logo appear 3 seperate times during this reboot phase. **Please wait at least a minute before assuming you are stuck.** If this happens, you should extract the boot.img from the installer zip and flash it with heimdall (heimdall flash --kernel boot.img, or other appropriate GUI methods). It should boot back into recovery and continue the installation. Once the install finishes, it should reboot once more back into recovery, which gives you the opportunity to flash your gapps.
**Google Apps are not included in these ROMs. You'll need to install those yourself if you want them. Recommended and highly suggested are the 4.3 Gapps
Install video (Thanks Daniel644)
Known Issues:
- Video recording is limited to 800x600.

Notice:
As per previous CM versions, it is recommend to wipe BOTH /system and /data prior installing CM10.2 into your device.
Here it is in case you're searching for it:
Gapps 4.3 Download
Issues:
- Right speaker that sound quieter than the left one (fixed 14/09)
- Front cam can't take pictures (fixed 10/02)
- Focal isn't working too (Use the stock camera app) It works but it's very slow to take a picture (07/08)
Superuser:
As 4.3 landed into our devices, the security into it has been enforced and it's possible that built-in superuser isn't working. As a simple fix, please use either this:
Koush Superuser Download
Or the newer version of SuperSU here:

Again...
Wow! Just got this on my Gnex, not even official, and you already did it. Nice work. I'll give it a try when I have more time.
wow!
I thought your were gonna wait to perfect 4.2.2 but cant complain about keeping our device uptodate thanks.
does it have the same issues as 4.2.2?
Installed this ROM. ROM feels OK. My 90 DPI setting works. Should phone be missing from the app drawer?
Messaging crashes on boot.
Built in super user seems to be working for me.
Sent from my YP-G1 using Tapatalk 2
messaging FC's on boot and despite doing both links I still don't have a working SU app, aside from that and the lack of governors (can I use Impulse kernel on this?) seems pretty good.

Hmm that's weird, I thought that super su would work. You're sure you're using the 1.51 zip? And CM10.2 is still in the works so expect fc everywhere lool.
Also impulse probably won't work with 4.3. There have been changes in the kernel and the ramdisk which makes it unusable.

What would have earned Superuser, you need to unlock developer mode.
Must be pressed several times on the build number in about tablet
zaclimon
You will collect kernel under 10.2 with the capabilities of both the Impulse?
How to swap the internal memory card on the outside?
While it was possible only through init.d, but when connected to the PC all comes back, you need to reboot (.
#!/system/bin/sh
mount -t vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /storage/sdcard1
mount -t vfat /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 /storage/sdcard0

I don't understand your first question (translate must have messed up!). If it's about making a build with some impulse features, no I won't make them. (Impulse features remains in Impulse or any other custom kernel)
Also android 4.3 changes how sdcards are handled so for the moment, you can't switch them.
Well I went back into CWM did a Wipe Data/Factory reset, Wipe Cache and Wipe Dalvick then reinstalled Gapps (don't know if needed) and the Beta 2 from the first link (for superuser app) and rebooted and then enabled developer options and went down to root access and set it to Apps and ADb (was only Apps before) then opened Superuser (the new one not the baked in one) and it came up without issue so I tried to Overclock using No-Frills CPU and BANG the prompt to give Superuser access came up and all is well with the world.
Root is working now, I would not recommend trying the SuperSU 1.51 after this as it will delete the Superuser (that works) while trying to update the binaries, at which it fails to do.
are there plans to make an Impulse like kernel for this? I would really like to have the other governors as an option, I don't like the stock ones. Also for the time being I went in to the app manager and disabled messaging to prevent all the FC messages.

I think the issues such as camera and speakers need to be fixed before we can get official Cyanogenmod.

Speakers isn't that much of an issue but still needs to be fixed. As for the camera definitely needs to be fixed though.

I installed SuperSU 1.51 by flashing the .zip at the same time as installing the ROM. It works straight out of the box as binaries are already updated.
No wipes, just install straight over 10.1 - after the usual rebuild of the dalvik cache (android is updating...) there was a further update of databases.
I used BaNkS Gapps, which I highly recommend as it installs only the core requirement - everything else can be downloaded from Play.
To get rid of the Messaging fc pop ups, I froze the app.
The baked in superuser works fine for me. I did not have to flash super su.
