[Q] Cm7 Vs Bionix 1.3.1 - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I like both roms and have used both wat do u think of them tell me advantages and disadvantages

I'm sorry, you've tried both... you know the pros/cons....
CM7... pros, everything. Cons, battery/gps

How bad is the battery an used it for short time and it was on charger

It's worst than stock... it's not horrendous, like it used to be... the new kernel has really helped battery, but it is worse than stock. It's worth it to have the options CM7 brings.
No GPS was a deal breaker for me, but I said F it.

When I tried it I could not turn it off do u have turn off problem were u can't turn it off unless battery is out to

Only when connected to the usb cable though right?

on cm you get about 10 hrs of battery life, and no GPS, there is Voodoo sound and color and the theme chooser.
I dont use TW roms so I cant say anything about them

Both it won't shut off its weird

what for? there's no need in cm7..

Is the new version solid enough to run as a daily driver? I ran it about a month ago for a week, but came back due to lots of instability issues.

there is none but it will become even faster and I love speed so I hope so

It true, i would leave my phone there. Not doing anything and an hour later my phone had lost like 25%!
1) do a proper battery calibration
2) take a good look at your apps, there are lots is poorly coded apps that drain battery.
3) do all tests on a stock kernel (not overstock or cw)

I have Trigger and I think it's the best Rom. I found that when phone is in idle battery drains really slow but when display is on battery drains very very fast.
How do we do a proper battery cailberation?
Try Darky's 9.3 Final for vibrant.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973811
It's 2.2.1, not 2.2; but it's similar, stable, fast and good battery life.
Personally, I love it and generally get a good day's use with a good amount of operation time.
Then download "Super Manager" from the market and use the widget that comes with it. It's the most reliable and effective task killer I've ever used. Make sure to enable root permissions and check the "clean system memory" (or something like that) box in the settings of the app.
For themes, go to the i9000 forum and
1.) download the theme you like (should say if it's for Darky's 9.3)
2.) Explore the file and delete the "services.jar"
3.) do a Nandroid Backup (as usual)
4.) flash it.
5.) Enjoy =D
Hope this helps your search!

You're running some apps that drain your battery. I've gotten 30 hours plus from both Trigger (older version) and the latest Bionix. On the newest Trigger right now and it's even better.
Are you in a low signal area? Are you using screen brightness on high? Are you leaving wifi on when not connected to a network? There are lots of things that can cause poor battery life. I can assure you it's not the ROM.
Sweet Honey 2.5 running 2.2.1! by far the best.
Battery life is amazing and signal is great.
running it stock install OS 1.4.1 kernel and ka6 modem.
I have the same question like u, I want to find a really amazing ROM too
First off, asking a question like that you will never get a straight answer.
Reason being: If everyone thought the same ROM was the best and only used the one ROM, there would be no need for the other ones on there.
The right answer is going to depend on what you are looking for. More speed? More battery? or somewhere in the middle.
I have run most of the current ROM's from EDT, and TW. They are all pretty damn amazing. What is going to make more of a difference will be what Kernel you are running. Also, if you OC (overclock) or UV (undervolt). There are going to be other things that will eat battery. Mainly apps, mail, and anything else that depends on wireless data when the phone is idle.
read, read, read.... I was once a NOOB, and by all accounts, still am one. (just a noob that has flashed a lot and read a lot in these threads)
what an arrogant and stupid way to start a call for help thread by insulting one if not the best custom rom out there. Seriously try thinking brfore making such an idiotic statements.

The best rom I have used is Atriac v2. I like Team Whiskey roms.
Atriac is just as fast with Voodoo disabled as it is with it enabled. Quadrant benchmark is slower with Voodoo disabled but as many others have said Quadrant isn't an accurate gauge.
I have one app that used to take at least 5 seconds to load. Lag fixes greatly reduced the apps load time. Atriac with Voodoo disabled loads that app just as quickly as using a lag fix.
Besides being the fastest, Atriac is the smoothest rom I have used.

First man, don't insult the Dev's on here. They all spend their time developing Rom's, Kernels, Themes and many other great things for our phones. Insulting them does not help you get your problem solved and makes people not want to help you. We love our Developers here and show them respect for the work they do for us. Whenever you have a problem with a ROM don't insult the Developers work rather first see if it is truly the ROM or if it is user error (no offense intended). Next if you still don't like the ROM then flash a new one. There are plenty to choose from. I personally use Simply Honey 2.5 with Overstock 1.5. Battery life is good, super smooth and really snappy. Give it a shot hopefully it might answer your questions and be what your looking for.

[Q] CM7 Gingerbread Vibrant bugs

What are the known bugs with the CM7 Gingerbread ROM for the Vibrant?
I'm considering rooting and flashing my Vibrant to get better speed, but I don't know which ROM is the best for me. I've read that CM7 is popular.
Currently only one. Battery. Batter life will be around 30-40% shorter than on Froyo ROMs. Except...if you were getting 23 hours on a charge to be getting around 16.
He's right. Just battery. I used to have all sorts of problems with ginger, but it was either user error or I was using very beta-builds. Now 2.3.4 is incredibly stable with just a lil bit more battery drain than you are used to. My suggestion: try out trigger redux. Its a fantastic daily driver.

Yeh but what more will this give me than what I have now?
For one. Snappier browser. Secondly, I was able to install the nvidia tegra drivers to be able to play games like samurai 2 vengeance. Oh, and you get the useless, yet sought out tv off animation. And until today, netflix [its available for froyo now]. You can google the rest. Seriously, the whole UI is snappier than bionix or trigger ever was. Its awesome how quick it really is.

I'd suggest the CM7 nightly builds. Cyanogenmod 7 is about as good as it gets which is why it is on so many devices.
The only bug your going to notice is that on some of the Gingerbread roms the GPS may not be working, although there is a fix which allows you to lock GPS everytime within 30 seconds literally...
As far as battery life, with CM7 I was lucky to get about 8-10 hours on medium usage, but after I switched out the stock kernel for Glitch's kernel i'm doing a full day, overclocked to 1300mhz undervolted daily.... and it runs beautifully.

hi,can you post a link,i don`t know how to change kernel for Cyanogenmod 7(for vibrant please),for a while i used this rom,and abandoned it because of poor battery life(i have flashed bionix 1.3.1)
Thanks
a couple of bugs i personally had when I was on the latest nightly build were:
Random Reboots: the phone just randomly rebooted when it felt like it wanted to :/ then I saw one of the specific reboots it happened when i tried to put the phone to sleep while entering text it rebooted for no reason i was able to succesfully duplicate this bug many times
Horrible performace: i wasn't every able to play this 720p mkv file i had on the CM7 rom apparently because gingerbread doesn't have hardware acceleration :/ or CM7 for vibrant didn't at least.
Now im testing froyo roms like the bionix 1.31 and the project V and they don't have any of those bugs

Running CM7 Trigger Redux build 14 and I've only run into two bugs that could be my device, and one that's a known CM7 issue:
Low 3D framerate issues
Text written in landscape dissapears from fields when the phone is rotated to portait mode (May be limited to the Wells Fargo app)
SD cards do not re-mount in Android after being mounted to a PC unless the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected after turning off USB mounting
Battery is fixed, see sig.

[Q] Is CM7 Ready Yet?

Hey guys,
I'm no babby to installing beta software or flashing or any of this business. However, I'm just wondering if CM7 is ready for so-called "prime time" on the Atrix yet. I don't really care about the fingerprint sensor or webtop at all. Sans those two things how is everything else working on there these days? How is battery life and overall system stability?

From my experience its great. Battery life is identical to a blur rom, and performance is very good. Also no stability issues that I've seen.
It's my daily driver. Best experience on the Atrix yet for me. Battery life is great. I usually get through the whole day. now that it's merged it should just get better and better. I'd suggest it.

Just do it.... it's technically out of beta now.
Only things that don't work:
- Finger Print Scanner
- Webtop
- Horizontal HDMI Mirroring
- Dock Audio
As far as battery goes, that's pretty much subjective from user to user... also depends with kernel you decide to run... if you want good battery life on CM7, might want to try Faux's enhanced stock kernel & add some undervolting.
When you say, dock audio, does this just mean the audio cable that splits off of the power cable doesn't work? Does Bluetooth audio still works when it's the car dock?

Thanks guys. I went ahead and flashed it and loving it so far!
I'm glad you flashed it! I was really hesitant to leave the safe, stable world of deblurred roms and venture into fingerprint-scanner-less world of CM7. However, with it out of Beta I finally took the plunge and it opened up a whole new world to me. Now having taken the red pill, I can never go back.
CM7 is without a doubt the most powerful rom available. It is so good that it makes me hesitation regarding lack of fingerprint scanner silly.

I flashed the new version and i dont know what is happening but mine is too slow to scroll apps, change screen, etc. Does anyone here is happening samething?
I'm using CM7 and am blown away by the speed, features, and how clean it is.
There naturally are quirks, as its still in beta. The only major issue I've had is lack of ability to control permissions.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I had similar issues. I think they're related to the cooked in ADW Launcher. I just replaced it with Launcher Pro, and my homescreen and app drawer scroll smoothly and quickly.
As much as I love CyanogenMod its a no go for me.
The only reason I use the Atrix 4G and consider it a superb smartphone is because on Webtop and Fingerprint Scanner. Whitout those two key things, I might have moved to something else like the SGS2.
Too bad those features are not priorities for CyanogenMod devs I presume.

Why don't you use Aura or Alien or any of the other custom ROMs that DO have those features? They're still way faster and leaner than the stock moto builds.

What tweaks are you using?

I was just wondering what different tweaks people use that work. The only thing I been using is jokers 1.3 kernal on cm7 and just tried 3g/4g optimizer for 3g boost. I am new here so off I'm curious as to what you guys use for tweaking things like 3g etc....
Sent from my CM7ed MoPho
Hello and welcome! 3g tweaks are one of those grey areas in which people seem to have varying results. None have ever done much for me.. However, zeroing out any proxies within your build.prop usually seems to get me slightly faster and more reliable 3g speeds. CM7 is pretty optimized from the get-go, but i urge you to make good use of that kernel. By that i mean, sit down and really set up profiles, underclock by no more than 50 if you want to be sure you get no random reboots, run the powersave governor instead of performance (with deadline), dont bother overclocking unless youre really obsessed with benchmarking scores as jokers mods to the kernel improve performance at stock frequencies and visible performance gains are minimal with overclock. If everything is set up correctly, don't bother using a battery saver app as profiles can generally do the same thing. Dont use task killer apps, they hurt battery performance and do more harm than good. Might wanna check out startup manager to dictate which apps start upon boot if you have a ton of apps. Check out an app called ad away to get rid of those pesky ads. Rom Toolbox Lite app is good for many many little tweaks as well. Thats all i can really think of right this second. Other than these i like to keep it generally clean.
What is the most accurate speed test app? I been using speedtest.net mobile.
Sent from my CM7ed MoPho
There isn't. All of them are slightly inaccurate. Best way to judge your speed is to actually download something.

You'll find your phone actually runs smoother without the task killer. They were useful in the days when phones had limited amounts of ram. With today's phones its redundant given that android has its own 'task killer' built in.

Then forget about both ICS and JB and go with GB. Any variant will do.
ICS/JB ROMs are just too unfinished yet to be a reliable daily driver, IMO. People are woking hard on them though, so there is no doubt they will one day become as reliable as good old GB.
Agreed.

This is a very accurate summary of where we stand. I'm still running Nottachtrix 1.3.1 even though Nottach left the Atrix over a month ago, just because everything works on it. Bluetooth, wifi, HWA, Ubuntop, all cameras, and even a decent selection of themes for both android and linux.
But with the new leak libs, there is sure to be a fantastic CM9/10 ROM that takes advantage of them. We just have to be patient.
Hi
If you're not using thoroughly your phone, the CM10 form Epinter is now reliable enough for a daily use.
I was using CM7 since months, and after trying CM10 last week, i'm still using it and have found no real limitations for a basic usage.
I'd recommend you to keep a GB based rom if you want to have the most reliable system and if video recording is a primary need for you.
Just my $.02: I don't even use the "latest" GB 2.3.7 ROM: I've returned to Neutrino 2.6 EE (the latest is 2.91 at this writing). CM 7.2 RC1 was the most stable + efficient ROM from the CM gurus for my Atrix. I charge my phone once every two or three days too.
Think about driving a car that everyone laughs at that's never needing to go to the shop. Gits ya there, gits ya back, reliably and without anyone really paying attention to it, and it just goes and goes and holds its own against everyone else. Newest doesn't always mean best; trustworthiness does.
Epinter's CM10 worked OK for me despite the few well known bugs.
You might give the brand new AtrICS ROM a shot. It's hard to believe that it could already be as stable as it claims to be, but with working hardware acceleration, it should have some bugs fixed as compared to CM10.

I highly recommend the newbie guide sticky in the atrix general forum. Saved my butt so many times. And there's no Odin on Motorola phones.

epinter JB rom
I am using epinter's JB rom and it works flawlessly.
Thanks,
Jinesh
I switched from epinter's CM10 to AtrICS today and found it to be a fairly usable. You trade some features for others.
I prefer the interface of CM10 to AtrICS, but AtrICS feels really snappy thanks to the HWA. I'll probably get used to ICS after a while. The Camera works well, but, like others I noticed that after switching from the back camera to the front, there was some corruption on the right side of the screen. Going into Camera Settings and unchecking then rechecking the Widescreen box fixes this. There are problems with the unlock screen of AtrICS; it can be slow to appear when you press the power button and I have seen the screen turn on for a split second before turning right back off. If you let the phone go into a deep sleep, you may see a black screen for a minute, in my case the unlock screen did eventually appear. I've had one reboot right after closing a bunch of apps running in the background then trying to open a browser.
WiFi works great with AtrICS and mobile data feels faster than I remember.
My mobile gone hot after a few minute use AtrICS, and experienced network lost. The phone also hot with epinter 's version.
Restored TopSmart1.3. GB has the stablity I trust.

TopSmart is not supported anymore. You may want to move to a supported gb rom like MROM....

Does your camcorder autofocus very often (around 1-5 seconds)? Mine does with Somebody's CM10, I'm just wondering if it just me.
