/proc folder on Optinus One - Optimus One, P500, V General

I found a /proc folder in my LG Optimus One using Astro File Manager. What is wierd is that it says that the size is bigger than 630.000.000 bytes (stil counting). What does this folder save? Can it be deleted?

proc folder is a virtual directory created by the OS. This special directory holds all the details about your Linux system, including its kernel, processes, and configuration parameters etc.

One more question. If I reset the phone to factory defaults will I lose the root, custom rom and kernel? My phone memory is getting less day by day...
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App

It's getting less because you're using space for browser and dalvik caches. Also, messages, phone contacts, application data, applications on the phone memory, applications moved to the SD card but still uses the phone memory for some of its stuff, etc.

I erased today the dalvik cache, most of my apps are installed on the memory card, the browser cache is saved on the sd card..few messages..and i have 45 mb free on the phone memory.
LE. So, if I reset to factory defaults, will I lose the root, custom rom and kernel?

I think not. Wiping data will only remove stuff from the data partition. Everything in /system is kept.

From what I know when you reset factory defaults your phone memory gets erased

Yeah. User data and stuff are in /data.

Massive system/xbin/ folder???

I've been having problems with the internal memory on my hero getting very low, and my phone seems to be slowing down a lot as a result.
I have apps2sd set up, and that seems to be working fine, however looking through the folders on my phone, the /system/xbin one seems very very large (582,031,812 bytes according to Astro).
What is this folder, and is there anything I can do to free up space? Would deleting the contents be a good idea?
if i'm not totally wrong that would be around 580mb, which just can't be true. besides that the internal memory is in /data, while /system/xbin is in /system, so totally different partitions (it is like asking "my space on d:\ is getting low, should i delete c:\xyz?"). last but not least you will most certainly break your system if you delete stuff from there. and the contents of everything inside /system ususally doesn't change, except you do it manually or use any kind of update.zip (new rom, theme, etc).
try wiping dalvik-cache from recovery, that might free a few mb.
Thanks.
I thought it didn't make any sense, and that it must be in a different place to the internal memory. Ok, I'll look through data to work out if anything is taking up more space than expected.
What will I lose by wiping dalvik-cache?
Why would my memory keep on shrinking? My apps are on my sd card, so it shouldn't be them...

nothing, it is recreated on boot. the problem is that when you uninstall an app the optimized "copy" of the app is not deleted from dalvik-cache.

for once through dalvik-cache, everytime you install an app it takes some space in dalvik-cache, though not as much as the app itself. besides that the app data (settings, savegames etc) is stored in /data, as well as system settings.
Hmm, deleting the dalvik-cache didn't make any difference.

Cache in the internal memory not fully reported by cache cleaners.

Hiya,
I just noticed today that my internal memory details display a section with 150.96MB of cache used (pls see screenshot attached of the tool 'System Tuner').
I've used different cache cleaners but they all just report ~4MB of cache, so not sure why this big mismatch in size :S
Any idea where those 150.96MB are stored, how can I see the applications that are using them and how I can manage/delete it? I can't find any other tool that reports the cache stored in the internal memory.
Cheers.
I think Titanium Backup can clear the caches for all your user and system apps

I've used some cache cleaners that didn't free up any of the MB from the internal memory. Do you know any other freeware tool with that feature that I can give a go? It still seems too much to me 150MB of cache used :S
Did you at least try Titanium Backup? The free version of it will clean the caches, just reboot after.

I checked Titanium Backup but couldn't see any standard 'clear cache' option, just the 'clean up the dalvik cache' setting.
I was now trying to understand that dalvik cache to see if I can someone reduce it (at least to see that's what's taking 150MB)
Press the menu button and then go to batch, then scroll down to find "Clear cache for all user and system apps." Things will look funny after but everything will be fine after you reboot.

Also if you have Clockwork mod recovery the option to wipe cache partition might work

Thanks for the info, I had not seen those options, I tried but the cache size reported in the internal memory stayed the same.
I investigated further and noticed that it corresponds dalkin cache memory that's created when I move an application from the mobile to the SD card, so I think it's totally required for those programmes to work and cannot be removed.
E.g.
New installed app = 11MB in mobile
Move that app to SD card and the application size gets reduced to 2MB, which is then reported as the dalkin cache value in different reports.
I'll research about how to move this dalkin cache to the SD card as well.
Thanks.

Installing a ROM

maybe I miss something here.
I installed 3 or 4 different roms. Full wipe, even format all partitions, but still all info, files photos remain on the internal storage!
Clearing all cash data whit clock work
What is it I am missing here.

Internal data will remain untouched.. You need to format sdcard from the menu if you want what you describe...

I did, i did format all partions after a mount in clock work.
but still what ever i do the files stay.

How do i get my apps using link2d ,back from 2nd partition after i wiped data :(

I have been using Link2sd for a while now and just wanted to know is there a way to get all my apps/games back after flashing a new rom and performing a full data wipe, cache wipe, after factory resetting...etc my phone.
There should be coz all the apps and there data, .dex files and lib files etc, are already there on the second partition. Isn't there anything I can do. I just dont want to reinstall everything again.
thanks

No you can't use link2sd for it, if you wanna backup full your applications you can using titanium backup, you can backup including your account like Facebook, yahoo, etc..

If the data is still on the second partition, you can try opening link2sd, press menu> more > relink application files. I think, though that cwm will wipe the second partition (or /sd.ext) if you perform a factory reset.
Are you sure the 2nd partition is wiped as well when I do a factory reset??
Coz I see that there is used space in the partition... But when I check /data/sdext2 thru ES File explorer ..its empty!

If you ask how about your 2nd partition after you wipe data, wipe cache partitions, I answer your partition is well but if ask how your file applications after you wipe data I say your file has deleted..

Is it possible to relink my applications now or not?

Q. I upgraded/changed my ROM and I can not see my linked apps, their files are on the 2nd partition but the system can not see the apps. How can I make them available, do I need to reinstall and relink them again?
No, if you didn't wipe data when updating ROM the only thing you need to do is to run "Recreate mount scripts" from "menu -> more" within Link2SD and do a normal (not quick) reboot.
If you wiped data, after executing "Recreate mount scripts" and rebooting, run "Relink all application files" from "menu -> more" and then reboot. All of your linked apps should be available again after reboot.
If you also wiped dalvik-cache, in addition to the above step run "Link dalvik-cache files".
Found this on the link2sd site... i did as its told here... but when i "relink all application files" it says no files found to relink ... :/ what do i do...
Best way is to backup using titanium backup. About the factory reset for me (rage kernel + CWM 5) it formats the second sd partition.

Yea I guess il have to buy the pro version...does link2sd move the application automaticlly when we backup or do we hav to link everything later...cz my internal memory dosent hav enough space to backup all the apps at the same time...

[Q] Help! Samsung Galaxy Ace SD card problem

Following a thread elsewhere in this forum, I foolishly used Root Explorer to move the dalvik cache from data to system and thought that I had created a link in data. Now my 'phone doesn't display any of the apps on my SD card (including Root Explorer). Is there any way back from this
Do a factory reset. It'll wipe your data partition and create everything freshly. After you set up your phone, root it and then delete the folder that you copied to /system. It'll just lie there doing nothing and waste space otherwise. /system isn't affected when you do a factory reset, that's why you have to do this manually.
