Help! Please! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I recently wanted to try out Simply Honey XE Pro edition and flashed it, then decided i wanted to flash back to Trigger, but now when I plug my phone into the wall charger or to my comp via usb, my phone automatically shuts off, and will only turn on when I unplug it. Any help is greatly appreciated, I have been doing a lot of research on Google and on XDA, but I haven't been able to find anything. Please help.

When you boot in to recovery or download mode, and then connect it, does it still turn off?

Did you do a noandroid backup?
Have you tried getting into the download mode?
- open ODIN v1.7 on your pc
- connect USB to pc (not to the phone)
- power off phone (some pull their battery and put it back in to make sure it is off)
- go into download mode (hold both volume keys... then insert usb to the phone),
- ODIN should be connected, and you should be in download mode, should see COM and a # on ODIN
put your old rom on.
You can even use the toolbox it takes you step by step

no, i have no nandroid... sadly, i never thought I wud need it because I never use to flash this much. but, yeah, now I really need to do nandroids everytime.
But if I Odin back to JFD, is it basically using a nandroid???

Yes I think that's the only thing you can do, except you will go back to stock and loose your settings and data (if you don't have a backup of that either).

This is the easiest way. Download Terminal from Market and enter SU (gives you root access) and then type reboot download
Your phone will reboot into Download mode
i tried the su reboot download and it didnt detect it and i reinstalled the drvers too no luck cuz it says usb device not reconized when in download mode but when in recovery or normal mode it is detected no issue
Here's how I do it if everything else fails. Have ODIN v1.3 opened up first. Next, make sure phone is in debug mode and make sure its checked . Next, while phone still connected to pc, remove back cover and pull battery out. Before inserting the battery back in, hold the phone side ways while pressing the volume up/down at the same time now insert the battery. Your screen should now display yellow big letters -
Download Mode - Do not turn off target.

Read the Vibrant Bible here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111 . Read the top 2 sections --Useful links and Odin.
By the way, is your phone rooted?
Have you tried using a different USB port? Sometimes that helps.
yes the phone is rooted and i tried using odin v1.0 and 1.7 ill try 1.3 idk if it makes a difference
One method I've read on the boards is to flash "Eugene's froyo that doesnt' Brick". Of course that is an Odin file so...we need to get Odin working for you. Like icandy said, try a different USB port and see if that works. If nothing else also post in Master's Axura thread and ask him/her what the best method of downgrading to 2.1 is. I'm not sure if you'd have to flash Eugene's Kernel Back Support or not. I know this isn't too helpful but hopefully it'll give you a few ideas.

I had this same thing happen after Odin froze during a flash of the stock Vibrant US firmware. I thought for sure it was dead...no battery charging icon when plugged in, couldn't boot into download mode, no signs of life at all...nothing I did made it do anything. After messing around for an hour and a half I figured out how to get it to boot into download mode:
1. Removed SD and SIM card
2. Removed battery
3. plugged the phone into USB
4. held down vol-up and vol-down
5. popped the battery back in while holding vol buttons
This got me into download mode consistently when my phone looked 100% dead. After that I unplugged it from the computer (still in download mode), fired up Odin, set up my flash files, and plugged it back into the computer. It then showed up in Odin and I was able to re-flash successfully.
Maybe it will work for you guys too. Don't put the SD card or SIM card back in until after you flash, though. I couldn't get mine to flash correctly with the cards installed.

Did not work at all... Accidentally I flashed my phone with a i9000 firmware tar file and now the phone is dead... can anyone tell me please how to save it? I don't have a phone at all
everyone just needs Download mode. access it whatever way you can same thing as recovery mode its just usually not that simple to get into using the multi-button methods. If all else fails to access download mode buy a team whiskey pre-made USB JIG. I havent purchased one but from the responses it seems like a good buy especially if you find yourself in a spot like most of you are in

Define dead do any lights come on at all? Like on the bottom of your phone? If so then it's not that bad. try using the toolbox.

There is a tutorial of every way to unbrick a vib in the Development section, that should help you out.
Help, when i was flashing with odin i accidentaly un plug the usb cable and now my phone doesnt even turn on, no lights, nothing, could anyone help me?

I messed up badly.

I was on the latest nightly build of CM7 with Clockwork Recovery. I wanted to try ICS Passion - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362961
It said I needed this bootloader - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990
That said I needed to use Odin so I used this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20666234#post20666234
I got into Download mode, and Odin recognized my phone and I tried to install the new Bootloader, then it said it "failed" and my phone's screen went from the download mode to a black screen. So I unplugged my phone and took out the battery and when I put it all in, I get this screen with a phone connected to a computer with the "!" sign inbetween. Nothing I do changes it. I need help, I need this phone for work. How do I fix this?
Thanks in advance. I know it's Christmas day, and I would really really appreciate anyone who would kindly give me some direction here.
ODIN should recognize your phone in the connect to computer screen, if you see a yellow COM in ODIN, you're good to go, flash back to stock.

I've tried V3 and V4 and ODIN still does not see my phone. Do you have a link to the latest version? Should I have my phone connected when I run ODIN? I've tried running it when it is connected, and when it's not, and then connect it after ODIN has started. Thanks in advance!

Try this.
1. Turn your phone off.
2. Take battery, sim, sdcard out.
3. Hold volume up & down buttons.
4. Connect usb without letting go of the buttons.
5. Put the battery in, without letting go of the buttons.
See if you can get to download mode that way.

You are an Android saver! Thank you so much!!!
Future reference for those who red this - when you flash a boot loader UNCHECK "AUTO REBOOT". That way if it fails you can just try again.
I always uncheck it, if successful just hold the power button for 10sec for reboot.

[Q] Help me with my bricked vibrant

At first, I was at 2.2 custom rom (rooted), then i flashed back my phone to 1.6. At the beginning, I chose format SYSTEm and wipe Data, then picked my phone into download mode to flash with ODIN. Unfortunately, my cable was accidentally bricked out of the phone. When I tried to get into the download mode again, it just appeared a Charging icon ( no green, charging waiting only) I could go to recovery mode but nothing in my SD card and I could not go back to download mode again.
Any help is appreciated !!!

Remove the cable
Remove the battery
Plug USB cable into COMPUTER ONLY right now
hold volume up volume down
Plug USB cable into phone
put in battery
that's the sure fire way of getting into download mode you'll be fine
Out of curiosity, why would you wanna go back to 1.6?
That's why you bricked it, 1.6 software was never made for the Vibrant.

If that doesnt work, which it should, might want to try getting a JIG.
Your Not Bricked

What DJQuick says I agree!! Why are you trying to go past 2.1 Eclair??
Anyway Your not bricked because you can still power it on, If you corrupt the primary Bootloader, by screwing around not doing what the previous posters said, then you WILL BRICK IT!! A true HBricked situation is no powering on of any sort, your lucky you didn't smoke the Primary BL. Baywolfs Program works pretty good to restore it to factory 2.1!!
From there you can go forward or stay in a retro state if you wish!!
You should read first to educate yourself on procedure and the proper SW for the model phone you have, presuming its a T-959 Vibrant, as this is what this forums about!!
I really don't understand why all the new vibrant users don't read the bible and try to understand how the things works with this phone...
PROBLEM SOLVED ! thanks for all of your helps.

[Q] [SOLVED] Odin wont recognize my device unless it is powered on?

I am running stock 2.1 Eclair. My kernel is JFD. I am rooted. Please help.
You can put your phone in download mode, then you can use Odin. Make sure your phone is off, then press the volume button + and - at the same time, connect your phone via usb, then your phone should be in download mode and Odin should recognize your phone.
with your Girlfriend? Tech info please...
Haha I know that.
I may be misunderstanding the whole point of this thread, but WHY would Odin, or the PC, or any other Earthly technology recognize your device if it was powered OFF?
You want a connection it better have juice.
I meant in download mode sorry... lol

Yes, you must be in download mode. That's the phone state Odin uses to communicate with your device.
With all sincerity, there many, many guides that I would check, These threads are difficult,if we dont know your problem, level of expertise, or intentions,...good peeps that can help.
Alright... Thanks anyway guys, I appreciate it.
Any ideas where to check for help?
Here is fine, I think we are all confused. I thought the question was: Does my phone need to be in Download Mode to be recognized by Odin?
The answer to that is: yes.
Is there another question? This is the right place, fire away friend.
whats going on i guess its not working for you yet i see ....what is it that you are trying to do you lost me now lol.....if your rooted mate then you should have the update.zip file to install CWM recovery on your SD then install ROM manager search around for it people say its not in the play store but its all the way at the bottom if you search ROOT install the app and follow the onscreen to install the recovery mod and then you should be good to go on flashing turn your phone off and and hold all 3 buttons to turn it back on as soon as you see the logo pop up let go of the power button and you should be in your recovery then install zip from SD send PM if your lost
Haha sorry for not making that clear. I went into download mode and it didn't recognize it. I knew it had to be in download mode. I ended up restarting my computer and plugged it into a USB 3.0 instead of a 2.0 port and it worked just fine... Thanks anyways for trying to help.
Haha thanks I had CWM installed, I just needed to restart my PC and plug the cable into a USB 3.0 instead of a 2.0...
