Hey!
Again sorry for the possibly Noob question...I searched and didn't find anything.
How do I access my microsd card when it is installed in the GTab and the GTab is connected to my Windows 7 laptop?
This is driving my sort of crazy...there has to be a better way than swapping from the GTab to a card reader!
Thanks in advance!
Pat
As far as I know your computer only sees the internal Sdcard. I'm running VEGAn, not sure if it does it that way on other Roms.
I use ES File Explorer or Astro to move files from sdcard to sdcard2.
Get a microSD to SD adapter and physically plug it in...you can also get some "empty" USB sticks that will take a microSD card for the memory...
I just carry one around in my laptop bag and when I need to transfer files (music, video) to the external card, I pop it out of the tablet and into the converter...
How do I transfer playlists to the microSD card from my computer using Winamp?
Yep, unfortunately the only way to access the physical micro SD card is to remove it and use some sort of separate card reader (I'm using my DSLR camera!).
I also read somewhere that you have to shut down the tablet before removing the SD card and replace it before booting up again. Otherwise there may be issues (which I had) with the tablet recognizing the card. Not sure how broadly this issue applies but as rebooting is so quick I just do it to be safe.
Is there a way to mount sdcard2 to sdcard (like Galaxy Tab does?)
I used Multi Mount SD Card Lite (in market) to mount sdcard2 when usb is connected. It worked very well on TNT lite, however I haven't yet used it on Vegan, but I imagine it will work as well.
The app requires root access, and uses a widget to enable/disable mounting. It claims to be able to mount both sdcard and sdcard2 simultaneously, however I have yet to see that work.
Can't post a link, but simply search "Multi Mount SD-Card" in market.
Problem is that the Micro SD card is very hard to get in and out. You almost need a special tool to push down on the edge of the card to activate the spring release. Possibly a plastic stylus from an old PDA could be the "tool" to pop the Micro SD card out. - Craig

That's really a Winamp question, and may depend on your computer.
It's certainly not a g-Tablet question.

agreed. I found this out too the hard way, but works great on vegan! I hit a widget and my sdcard mounts perfectly.
The Multi Mount SD Card Lite works great. Just using the free version and it works exactly how we would want it. Just remember to use the widget instead of the Android USB connection.
Thanks for the heads up on this app!

So I recently Romed my Viewsonic G Tablet.
I followed this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
Everything is fine..except when I put a SD card into the SD slot the Tablet doesn't recognize it. It just tells the the internal Space not the SD card space.
I used ZPad Clean v3.0 for the ROM and I used cwmod_internal.zip instead of cwmod_microsd.zip
I then used my friend's G Tablet and put the SD card in it..It read it just fine.
So I wanted to test it out while it was rooted. (to double check)
I then Rooted my friends GTablet also. I rooted it the same way but the only change I did was have a SD card in the tablet the whole time. Still the same problem.
Is there any way to fix it? DO i need to use cwmod_microsd.zip....instead of cwmod_internal.zip??
I'm really confused if someone can help me that would be amazing!
Is there an APP that tells you the storage of your installed SD Cards?
Thank you
You mean flashed the rom when you say romed. Have you checked to make sure the sdcard is getting mounted? If there is no data on it you might try reformatting it in either of the g tabs. If you can get to a shell you might reboot, and look at the last 20 lines or so of dmesg. Insert the card and take another look at dmesg and see if the kernel is picking up the insert at all. If so it is likely just a mounting issue.

Well I reformatted it and I mounted it. Still nothing..How can I check if the kernel is picking up the SD card at all?
Would changing Kernel's fix the problem? I'm just using the Stock Kernel that the ROM came with.
Thanks
You were able to reformat and mount it via the g tablet with the zpad software on it? And even having done that it doesn't list it as having any free space?

Not yet. So should I go to Storage and devices and unmount and format the SD card via the tab?
Try it on the tablet.
If I reformat the SD card wouldn't I loose the root? or no right because I did external
My understanding of root is that it modifies files on your tab/phone, not an external sd card. Worst case you lose root and reroot the device.

When I tap click mount it says 11.3 gigs available.
when i unmount it says unavailable.
The card is only 8GB.
It should be internal storage 16GB.
SD card like 8gb.
Not sure what's going on.
If I format I think I'll wipe it all.
Ok, there is an internal 16GB, yes. Of which you have 11GB free. The SD card you're having the issue with is a separate uSD 8GB, right?
I'm meaning for you to try to mount/unmount or possibly format the 8GB SD card. If it isn't showing at all then the issue is something beyond it simply not being mounted.

Yeah. It's a separate card that I plugged into it.
Was there ever a fix/resolution for this? I am having the same issue.
Everyone,
I've written this a bunch of times -- but here's one more:
/sdcard -- internal memory of the tablet
/sdcard2 -- miniSD card in the external slot
/usbdisk -- USB key slot
Put your recovery folder and update.zip on /sdcard, turn off the tablet, the press power
and volume + to initiate standard recovery.
Second, put your recovery folder and update.zip on a miniSD card. Edit the command file
in the recovery folder with Notepad to change the location from /sdcard to /sdcard2 and
save it with the name "command" (NO .txt or other file extension). Then boot
recovery with power/volume + and the OS will use the sdcard (assuming you don't
have a live recovery/update.zip file in /sdcard).
Third, if you can boot recovery to CWM but can get your ROM to work, go in recovery to
the mount menu and go down to the mount USB memory option and choose it.
Then plug your connector cable from the miniSB port to your PC. When you plug into
your PC an Explorer window should open and you should have a drive letter representing
the G-Tablet (it's G: on mine) on you menu. You now can select that
letter and you have access to your tablet memory (/sdcard). I've even had a time or two
when not a single file showed!!! I added update.zip and recovery and loaded
a ROM!
The tablet boot process apparently checks /SDCARD. If it doesn't find a recovery files there
it does the same check if you have a miniSD external card installed. The large USB slot is not
useable for booting or recovery so far as I have determined or read.
I hope this helps you.

I own a visio tablet which I rooted with vegan and clockwork. I have a 32GB SD card but when I check the storage is says 12GB on SD and 2GB on internal. The tablet should have 16GB + my 32GB. Anyone have an idea why it wont come up?
Is the fix above the best way to take care of this issue?
Can anyone kindly help? I've read through a lot of the links and can't find anything. I have rooted my device with clockworm v8, Vegan, got the market place to work and now I just need to figure out what is going on with my 32GB SD card. Should I format it with FAT32? How can I get it to be recognized?
Thanks in advance!
Formatting to Fat32 would be a good start ;-)
SD Card Dilemma
I have the VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1 installed in my G-Tab and, with the exception of the SD card issue, things are just peachy! I've read the entire thread but, even with butchconners description, I seem to still be missing something. Let me try to structure this a bit differently...
1. The sdcard2 DOES show up in ifilemanager (with only one file, LOST.DIR) but NOT in SETTINGS. Since it does not appear in SETTINGS, there is no way to mount or dismount it (although if it shows up in the file manager and I can see the file on it, one might infer that it is already mounted.)
2. Even though I can see it in ifilemanager, I'm not so sure how I can actually USE it. It seems to me that the system would need to know (via SETTINGS) that it is there and I would have to tell the system where to put my files (i.e., sdcard or sdcard2).
3. When I connect my G-Tab to my Win7 PC, I only have access to sdcard AND NOT sdcard2. This seems a bit unusual since I have always had access to the removable sd card AND NOT the system memory on all my other devices (EVO, Blackberry, etc.)
My goal is to be able to set applications (some or all) to use the sdcard2 (at least for data) and be able to access it via the usb connection to my PC. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?...Has a solution for this already been posted somewhere?
Many thanks.
I am not an expert but the pc sees(?) only sdcard(internal) but no sdcard2(microsd).
Right, Guys?
I am now able to see both sdcard1 and sdcard2 using pershoots latest oc kernal released 4/25 when hooking up gtab via usb to computer. I am using Vegan tab gingeredition.
where does one find that kernel and how do i install it? Im running vegan ginger right nowand have the same sd card issue.
thanks!
my gtablet recognizes the folder sdcard as a folder in the internal memory and the microsd as sdcard2 for some reason. when i plug it into my computer, i cant access the actual sdcard2 folder, so i cant access the micro sd. anyone have any experience with this? or any fixes?
thanks a lot. im running tntlite 4.4.0 on it.
That is how it is supposed to be on most ROMs...not just TnT
Pull out the microSD card, plug it into an adapter and plug the adapter into your computer. Then you will be able to read and transfer files!
Or just copy whatever you need to the SDCARD and use a File Manager to transfer them to SDCARD2 once you are on the tablet...
Right now, there is no way to mount both SDCARD and SDCARD2 at the same time to your computer via the tablet
Actualy there are a few apps on Market that do exactly that; some are add supported so you can try for free. Search for SDCard Mount or MutiMount.
I use the add supported Multi Mount SD-Card. Works fine.

I'd be careful using these. I got one out of the market that allowed you to access the external sd card. Everything went fine. I copied some of my music to the card and then disconnected from the pc. When I went to look at the sdcard2 folder via RootExplorer, I found that 2.39 GB of my 32GB card was used but could not access anything on the card. Now, my g-tab refuses to even see that I have an external card installed and I can't even get the format option in settings to attempt to rescue the card.

eek that sucks. which one did you use?
get ESfile explorer. you can move stuff back and forth between sdcards or a server location. you can also copy from lan location to sdcard2
is that on the market or somewhere else?
it also is installing all of my games and stuff to the tablet internal memory. liek the dungeon defenders stuff.. all of it is downloaded onto the tablet sdcard folder, not onto the sdcard (sdcard2). anyone have any workaround for that?

I'll respond and say it was Multi Mount SD-Card. That's the one I tried, with the same results. I can not get the GTab to read an external card at all. Can see card fine on PC though. I would surely stay away from that one.
I use file explorer to move to the SD Card. THis is a pita and a waste of time. The fastest thing to do is to put it in an SDCARD reader and place it in the PC.
This would be a nice fix and an app worth a buck or two.

every time i unmount my sd card, there's no way to remount it on my nook tablet,
is there an app that help me do this?
(i just don't want to open the SD card slot)
on PC, there is an app called "usb safely remove" that can remount usb, sd card,....
and do i need to unmount sd card when i don't use it, if i just leave it there, will it drain my battery, or is it ok?
no one knows?
It's fine to just leave the sd card plugged in, shouldn't have any noticeable drain on your battery.
Sent from my Nook Tablet using XDA
I have the same problem, If I unmount the SD card or physically remove from the slot with the tablet on, when I remount or insert the card again, all apps cannot see the card anymore even though under storage setting the card is shown mounted, I have to restart the tablet to make things go back to normal.
This is annoying because when I try to transfer files to the card via USB cable I get really slow transfer rates, like 2.0 MB/s taking forever when trying to transfer huge files, when I plug the card directly to my card reader I get 6.0 MB/s which is the card class speed.

when i made this thread i didn't have this problem, but now I do have the same problem as you.
I hope someone knows how to fix this.
There is an app called Script Manager (smanager) that you get from the google store. You can create a shell script that will mount your sdcard. That's what I did. I have my internal media partition mounted to /mnt/sdcard and I have my sdcard mounted to /mnt/sdcard/_ExternalSD.
I'm not sure why it isn't detecting your SD card after putting it back in though... unless you have it custom mounting somewhere and it doesn't like it. Are you "Unmounting" before you eject? If not, that could cause some error. Maybe grab catlog from the store and see what comes up in the log after you plug in the sdcard.
Hi,
I'd like to know if there is any way of selecting mass storage mode only for external sd_card. When I conect to a PC or any other device, if I select mass storage mode, both internal and external storage connects, but I would like to connect only external one (the sd_card itself). Is that possible?
Just for the record, I'm using CM9 now, but I haven't found this option on any of the roms I've tested.
Thank you.
Just remove the sdcard from microSD slot and insert it to card reader ._.

I'm sorry, maybe I didn't explained it correctly... Of course, this is a way to access the sdcard, and I know there are some other solutions, but it's not what I was asking. I don't want to remove the battery cover each time I want to access the sdcard. I don't want to wear with me a card reader always...
There are some cases in which I'd like to use this feature. For example, my car stereo has an USB port. In case I connect the SGS2, both storage units connects to the stereo, but it only detects one of them, in this case, the first one (internal Storage). This has 2 problems, the first one is that I use the external sdcard for music storage, and the second one is that some applications that stores data in the internal sdcard stops working.
I know there are many other ways of doing things (using a usb drive, removing sdcard...) but I just wanted to know if selecting only external storage was possible.
Thank you.
I`m interested into this too...
Phone forgets ringtones selection when they are stored on internal card after card disconnected from PC

Hi P9000 users!
I had now time to test some stuff with my P9000. One question: I inserted a Sandisk 128 GB SDXC Card (UHS) and formatted as internal Storage (want to move apps). Worked fine for the Phone and i was able to move apps to the SD. But after connecting Phone to USB (via MTP & unlocked phone) it only shows 32 GB internal SD. Also via File Explorer app on the phone i cannot find the external SD or mountpoint....
Anyone with same issue? I also changed connection-type to USB and then my OS (Win 10) does not open phone file system at all.

We did an article about the SD card memory management in Marshmallow a while ago on the XDA portal that explains this, I'd suggest googling for it as I can't remember the title.
Edit: Something to do with the SD card being formatted as Ext4 (linux file system standard these days) and Windows not supporting Ext4 filesystems.
Thx for reply, so i am afraid its related to Android 6 default behaviour. So if SD is formatted as internal storage you cannot access via USB from PC or managing files on it via file browser app? Thats really disappointing for me since it then switches SD card to enhanced app storage only, useless for image, videos, music etc. Of course i can format as portable SD, but then no movement of apps are possible (via root its maybe the only option).
In SD portable mode, i also had issue that SD cards randomly disconnects and one time it even needed to be reformatted. Have read about that in another thread, that this is related to physical sd mount... will see to fix this with some tape :/ (gives me not a good feeling here)

Update: checked some forums and blogs, seems not to be android 6 default behavior that you completely cannot access the files on adopted SD-card anymore. after adopting as internal storage... anyone could also reproduce this? I will try doing factory reset with SD-Card inserted..
