Live Wallpaper - Water - Nook Color Themes and Apps

I have a Autonooter 3.0 rooted NC. I am looking for the Live Wallpaper Water and can not find it anywhere. It is the one that shows the surface of a pond with leaves. When you touch the screen the surface ripples. Does anyone know where I can get this?

"Waterize" should be available in the Market.
Cheers,
kev

Thanks, that looks nice, but not the one I am looking for.

I believe you are talking about the stock live wallpaper that Google included with Android 2.2 Froyo. Nook just rooted is only 2.1 until B&N provides the rumored 2.2 update (though it will be a stripped down edition). If you flash a newer ROM it will be included.
I have been using Customized Nookie Froyo 0.6.8 by brianf21 for a while now and love it. Much better than 2.1. I am going to try CM7 pretty soon though because I want bluetooth and Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Look at the samsung galaxy s serious of phones. You cam extract the wallpaper from a rom in the captivate section. It's called leaves I believe.

Yes, its on my epic as well. Although, its called water. I'd post it, but I'm using the xda app.

I am running the Phiremod variant (version 5.2) of CM7. It is on there and set as my wallpaper.
This instance, by the way, appears to be very stable. The live wallpapers are fine. my only (minor) complaint is that some map-based apps die on startup. I have tried many different LCD Density Settings, but I think it does not like the clocking: Phiremod is overclocked to 1.1, I believe.

Do you have root explorer? If so, can you pull the apk and post it? I keep forgetting every time I'm at home. Or op, send me a pm and I'll get an email, then I won't forget.

I would post it, but I don't have access to a pc with internet, and I can't upload from phones app or browser.

Transmit GPS via wifi tether?

Surprised there isn't an application for this already, if there is I haven't found it.
The idea would be to transmit gps data from a phone with standalone gps (droid x) to a device tethered over wifi which does not have standalone gps (nook color).
Seems like the solution for transmitting gps is always via bluetooth, but why not wifi?
Done! Checkout TetherGPS in the market. I'll have a "Lite" version ready later today so you can try it out first. I've tried it with the Honeycomb v4 image and Nookie Froyo 0.6.8 on my Nook Color and both work. It isn't showing up in the market on the NC though, so I'll post a client APK shortly.
I'll try to make a demo video sometime this week also. Google Maps and Navigation work great.

Unreal! There goes one need for bluetooth.
Go figure today is the day my nook is giving me issues.
Hopefully this works with eclair? I'll give it a try, thanks.
Totally works! I was happy to pay for it.
Had my location within 3 meters on the nook color running eclair.
Used wifi-tether from my droid x. It did appear to lockup my droid x. Had to do a battery pull.
Can I post this over in the nc forums?

Sure, go right ahead.
The only Android devices I've got are mine and my wife's Evos and the Nook Color, so my ability to test different devices is pretty limited right now.
Things I need to work on include:
-Lite version
-Better icons, appropriate sizes, etc.
-Better logging for errors
-Demo video
-Full instructions
The app still isn't showing up in the market on my NC. I'll build the Lite version with a full client and post the APK. That should make it easier to load on the NC for anyone else who can't see it in the market.

Just DL'd... If you could make sure the app stays in sync with CM7 nightlies that would be great. I have the same phone NC combo, so this was obviously a feature I was searching for via BT. Cant wait to test later and make a new car mount for the NC.

Works great(TGPS) thanks for this one, EvO + NooK = winning....
Got it installed on my EVO and NC. Just trying to find a way to use the widget on stock Nootered NC. Any thoughts?
Awe-some! =)
Great app, just wondering if there's a way to get standalone nav apps to work with this?
Sygic Aura, for instance seems to require GPS hardware, or NMEA strings and not just location data... is there a way to spoof this?
Edit: Or can this app already do this and I'm just missing it...?
I found it in the market on my Eris, but can't find it in the market in Nookie Froyo.

Download the lite apk on http://www.comptonsoft.com. It includes the full client and a lite server.
It seems to work properly on my HTC Incredible and NC, both running CM7.
I would really like to see the addition of regular app shortcut toggles instead of just the widgets, though, to permit integration with launcher tools like Multicon, Simi Folders and Desktop Visualizer.
My 3G connection is so poor (speed) that navigating while loading maps on the fly just plain won't work. The Nooks connection to my Optimus V is fine, both the wi-fi and the tethergps. I just tried Aura, and I would have sworn that it retrieved the location for a moment, and now it doesn't. Not sure how to get this to work.
Rooted Eclair on Nook Color, all stock on the Optimus.

I should probably note that I have set the Eclair on NC to allow mock locations, but I am not able to find the setting for allowing GPS location as the tether GPS on Honeycomb video shows.
Okay, apparently it's Sygic - Aura doesn't allow mock locations. Sorry for the confusion.

Please help! My Atrix is a slow piece of crap.

Ok I hope I've finally found the right forum. I was posting in modmymobile and not getting the help I needed. Finally a friend of mine told me about this forum and told me anyone who knew anything about Android posted here. As you can imagine I was on modmymobile because I was a frequent user of modmyi. I am an iPhone guy. An iPhone guy that is DESPERATELY trying to make the jump to Android.
I have my gripes with this phone versus my iPhone 4; for example the iPhone screen makes the Atrix look like a gameboy in my opinion (most notably at off angle viewing) and the build quality is no where near the same. BUT I can already see after 1 day of use why Android is superior. The thing is endless in customization, and for the most part the OS is more functional on every level.
With that said, PLEASE HELP. This fricken phone is supposed to be the fastest thing on the planet and it chugs a long like a snail. For example: If I were to load up a webpage with many pictures, such as phonescoop, and touch the middle of the screen and gently move it in circles, it stutters the entire time. Anytime I am zooming and or scrolling around a page I am constantly seeing stutter. Safari does not do this. I figured it was a browser problem so I tried Opera and Dolphin HD as well. While Dolphin was a bit better, it still does not compare to Safari. Not only that, when I'm scrolling through pictures I've taken its the same thing. Even the settings menu seems to chug!
My only hope is that the bloatware and Moto Blur is what is causing this stutter, so I desperately need help on how to remove any and everything from the phone that is not necessary. Not to mention Moto Blur looks disgusting. Please point me to a tutorial where I can learn how to root (make sure it will allow unroot please) and then please guide me on how to get all this crap off the phone. I think moto Blur is called a "Launcher"? Can you also reccomend the speediest and nicest looking launcher to go with as well.
I really really really want to replace my iPhone with this phone, but if it doesn't make sense I can not make the switch. I am already going to have to deal with the sub-par (in my opinion) screen, but I just can not deal with a laggy phone. What scares me the most is that I had my buddy come over last night that has an Inspire rooted and running at 1300mhz and his browser stutterd just the same. Please don't tell me this is an Android thing, I don't want something so trivial to ruin this for me. I really want to convert. For the record I chose the Atrix not only because of the speed, but because of the webtop and HD dock as well.
Thank you in advance and I hope I can get educated here.
Dolphin browser runs that site very well for me, no stutter as you say.
For a launcher, I'm using Go launcher, and also like ADW, and launcher pro.

Did you remove blur and replace it with that launcher? In doing that does it remove the bloatware and free up system resources? Id like to make the phone as fast as possible
Err...use the built-in task manager to kill apps that are either taking up CPU (though you're not using them) or a lot of RAM or both. Uninstall stuff you don't need.
Also note that this is not an iPhone, so quitting an app in a normal way (using back button / quit icon if available) is a lot better performance-wise than pressing the home button.
In your browser, close windows you do not need. Really. And switch on "on-demand" flash (it's in the browser options somewhere) so that it only loads flash elements when you click on them.
You could also try Firefox as a browser, it comes with its own engine. All other browsers in Android (afaik) use the built-in webkit engine, so are basically the same thing "under the hood".
Hope that helps. The phone is a beast, but that does not mean that you cannot slow it down
I think its moto's ui that is causing all the problem. Motoblur indeed is disgusting. My android is a mere 1 ghz phone but it does not stutter at all. Atrix is indeed a slow phone not utilizing its dual cores. Ive used my brother's optimus 2x which has the same processor as the atrix and it blew me away with its speed.
when I removed Motoblur and added Miren it got fast
I use Go Ex as a launcher although Gingerbread or Launcher Pro is equally fast. Motoblur is the biggest culprit when it comes to slowing the Atrix down. Miren loads quickly as a browser. I also got rid of apps I do not use and installed Swype beta as well as the Gingerbread keyboard form the market. Additionally I am using three screens and a simple, static wallpaper. I have 15 apps on the dock and use gestures for the dialer and to check the battery. I'm rooted and use setCPU. Functionality is great now. I hope they release the Galaxy S II soon. I can't find much else to do with the Atrix.

Does using a launcher like LauncherPro replace MotoBlur or does it just cover it up and I have to use TitaniumBackup to freeze MotoBlur behind LauncherPro?
DON'T download a launcher, it takes up ram and in overall will suck up ur memory.
What you want to do is just install Adeo and get ur phone deoxed, also remove bloatware, and you're phone will be FAST.
I haven't installed any launchers because they slow, i've tested it with LP and ADW and they don't co-operate too well with Atrix....i'm not sure but it might have something to do with the dual core not running right on the launchers.
I've had my phone constantly on for about 2 weeks now and it's still as fast as when i first booted it up. Also, knowing what ur running will help you understand what is sucking up performance if maybe you're running widgets that refresh every 15 min, it will hog ram.
Motoblur is a pretty good launcher...it just needs to be set up properly.
launcher pro scrolls much smoother than motoblur, and has that little spring effect the iphone does when you scroll between pages, it's excellent. Also, browsing as I've seen has been pretty hit, or miss, but on the xoom, which has the same guts as the atrix, website scrolling is much better. The only difference between the xoom and the atrix is froyo vs honeycomb, so that leads me to think this is a software bound problem.

well froyo is not designed for dual core...honeycomb is designed for multiple core usage...if you didn't know the motorola xoom was Google's developer tab for designing honeycomb.
This has to do with the way the android browser renders pages. The Safari browser is GPU accelerated thus, is smooth as silk. The android browser is not (unless you have a Galaxy S I9000 international version). So no matter what you do, the android browser will NEVER be as smooth as Safari until they give it GPU acceleration like the Galaxy. There's only one way to currently have a smooth browsing experience, and that is Opera Mobile 11 beta. However, I tried it on an Atrix and it doesn't seem to work, so I guess you're out of luck there. Again, this doesn't particularly have to do with the Atrix as ALL android phones using the android browser aren't GPU accelerated except for the I9000.
It's something a lot of android users even on this forum will not admit: the android browser is laggy. Sure, it may be quick to them, but if you always have an iPhone next to it to compare to Safari, it'll always lose. Except for playing flash, where it always wins. =)

so much better
I told you the guys here will take care of you Sean.
Ok heres an update.
So I found out that the firefox browser is by far the fastest browser with almost no lag whatsoever. I found this out before I modded the phone at all. I then rooted the phone and did the adeo modified rom on the phone and installed launcher pro. I also took off my live wallpaper. The only thing I haven't does is freeze all the bloatware. I'm kind of concerned that even though I'm using launcher pro, moto blur is still there and making the phone run slow.
Either way, the phone still chugs like a razr. For example, I took a random picture of my room. I then went into the "Gallery" app and looked at the picture. I zoomed in on it a bit and then dragged the picture around to scroll around and look at it; it chugged along like an NES game!!! It does the same thing while zooming in and out. What is going on!?
If I freeze the bloatware including moto blur, WILL my problem be fixed? I'm desperate.
I've found a thread that shows how to freeze the bloatware. I'll freeze everything including blur while I wait for you guys to respond. If I can't get this thing running up to par by the end of the week I'll need to return it. Which SUCKS because the benchmarks show that this is the fastest phone ever made (in stock form).
And really guys, what are the chances that the phone is only using 1 core because of 2.2? What are the chances that 2.3 will make this thing fly and eliminate the lag I am seeing?
You have to remember I am coming from an iPhone 4, which while not faster at all, SEEMS much faster because everything is so smooth. It seems stupid but I need the UI to be fluid, I won't be able to look past it. Thanks again.
**Are you guys with the super modded, OC phones on the newest versions of Android experiencing UI lag like I've mentioned above?**
More updates haha. Went to the market and downloaded "bloat freezer" and found that i cant use it because my device is not rooted. Looks like i rooted it and then when i installed the modded rom it erased my root or something. And since i dont have my usb cable here at work ill have to wait until i get home and re-root and then use bloat freezer.
Which rom did u install.....gingerblur? If so, it should have rooted it for u. Otherwise do the aroot process again. Then download titanium backup and freeze your bloateare through there.

[Request] Modified Hulu Plus apk for Vibrant

Hey everyone-
In case you didn't already know, the Hulu Plus app just came out for android but of course it's not compatible with the Vibrant. It is, however, compatible with the nexus s, which makes me think that getting it to work on the Vib shouldn't be to hard given how easy it was/is for the netflix app (assuming they use the same DRM technology). So I was wondering if anybody would be willing to tackle this mod and try something out? I don't have the apk, sorry, but it can be found here: http://bit.ly/lZqZ6m. Thanks again.
-bobofosho123
I got my APK from here instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136634
My Nook Color (running CM7) is already working (it's a "Nexus S" by "samsung" in name alone) so I tried the same edits on my SGS Vibrant and caused the app to FC. Still running a 2.2 Froyo build ATM.
So, I'm inclined to believe it requires 2.3 or later to work ATM. Merely changing the model / manufacturer section of the system\build.prop (case IS important) on a SGS CM7 (or GB ROM) may allow it to finally work. No need to change the fingerprint as I didn't have to for the NC.
a straight ahead build.prop edit running CM7 nightly did not help the situation. app is listed in market and downloads, but get device compatibility error for playback.
You might try switching the resolution to match that of the nexus a, in combination with your build props edits. I think theres an app in the market that does this called screen density.

you can change density from within the build prop no application required.
I got the app from the market a few weeks ago and it of course did not work.
I however logged into my hulu account a yesterday and it showed my phone as an activated device on the account settings page.
It detected as a t959. I have a vibrant with CM7 build 41.
A friend has an hd2 with a cm7 rom on it and it does not shoot out the unsupported device message it tries to play the videos but will sit at the loading screen forever.
What's the word on this it seems like nobody cares to get hulu working!!!

[Q] GtabComb or Flashback?

So after limping along with Illuminate for a while, I finally bit the bullet and installed Gtabcomb 3.3, works fine, FC's the gallery app on boot but otherwise a pretty smooth experience. (oh occasionally I get an earsplitting white noise from the speakers for no reason, only way to stop is to reboot) But it seems to have stagnated, haven't seen an update or anything in a while, but I see that Flashback is getting a pretty constant stream of updates, and it interests me, what would the main differences be in the 2 roms?
Also I saw a post on Tabletroms saying that 3.2 had been ported to the Advent Vega, which I know is very similar to the Gtab, will it be heading to the Gtab soon?
Sorry for the rambling
I run Flashback as my daily.
Truthfully, flashing is so easy just back it all up and flash it for a try.
Rumor I heard over at slatedroid is 3+ maybe coming soon with possible H/W Accel? Dev of flashback is working with them for testing...
Might be a good time to try it out?

I'll +1 Flashback as well. And I currently use Mountain Laurel for the same reasons nvanlaar stated above. I'm eagerly awaiting the ROM updates for Flashback which will allow me to get back to Flashback for my daily and I won't look back (pun intended).

One more vote for Flashback.
I was stuck on 1.1 forever, after lots of failed or half-ass attempts at flashing ROMs other than my original install of VeganGE. Today I meticulously went through the steps to go back to 1.1 stock, over to 1.2, then setting up Flashback. The only hitch I encountered was a broken market, which was fixed on my second attempt at the simple market fix method.
Flashback is just phenomenal. I'm running 8.1 and have found no Force Closes on any program. Fast, smooth and sexy. Just like me. /ducks

I hate this so much it makes me angry! It makes my tablet look cheap! I've tried reinstalling the roms several times but after a while it starts doing it again! It's not like I have toomany widgets or icons on my homescreen.. What gives? Is this normal? I thought the tegra 2 should handle widgets and icons!! Anyone else having this issue?

Do what I've been doing and see if it helps: halve the memory-related settings (which are for a tablet with 1GB of RAM) in /init.rc. Just flash the attached zip file using CWM.
It's been a while since I tested the script, so understand that you do this at your own risk. If there are any screwups, just reflash the ROM. That will restore your original /init.rc, and therefore, the original memory-related settings.
If the modifications worked, then attach the changed /init.rc file so I can take a look at it.

1. Flash the zip file using CWM anytime after GtabComb installation.
2. Install Root Explorer, or another file manager which lets you work on system files, and copy the /init.rc file to a micro SD card or USB stick, then transfer this to your PC and post the file here.

Google Chrome Beta released for ICS!

It says it's incompatible with my Touchpad (maybe it's because of the 132dpi) so can anyone extract it upload the .apk? Thanks.
don't worry pal, got u covered ;-)

It is compatible, I am using it now. I will post the apk when I get on my desktop. Works really well after 5 minutes of testing. Clicking on a youtube link closes the browser for me though.
installed it on mine from the market - works nice - just like the desktop version so far

Just an FYI if you want to use 132 dpi you should use this to fix the market, however since alpha 0.6 now officially supports 120 dpi (as an add-on option) you are probably better off just using that.
I am running at 120 now and have no issues with this or any other app in the market.
Pretty damn stupid that its only available in less than a dozen countries. Thanks for the side load link
No problem
Works well, unfortunately no flash support due to the fact that Adobe has pulled support. I've found myself using the default browser, I like all the improvements they have added since gingerbread.
wonder where the option to load "desktop" version is
EDIT: nvm, it doesn't support desktop view nor flash

No flash support, and no user agent choice. Not even a "request desktop site". Kind of embodies the reason I felt CM7 was unusable. Beta? Feels like alpha.
Back to ICS Browser + for me. Uninstalled Chrome already.

I really am liking it, running it on my nexus and touchpad. Maybe my chromebook will get a little less use, sadly my touchpad feels twice as fast.

Shame about the Flash support, this is HOT.
So I guess in Android 5.0 this will be the stock browser?
Installed, works(there is some bugs).

no info about extensions
no flash support
Running classicnerd ICS buttah
Somebody has same problems? Let's check if it is chrome bugs or classicnerd's or because of some apps installed.

Yeah, I'm betting that from Jellybean forward this will be the main browser. I think Flash on mobile is really done whether we, or the rest of the web, likes it or not. Once we upgrade out of ICS I don't think we will have Flash anymore. Adobe very begrudgingly updated it for ICS and I'm pretty sure that's the last time they are going to do that. They certainly don't seem willing to make any exceptions here for Chrome mobile.

your problem is that little green guy in the lower right corner! i havent seen anyone use a task killer since froyo! LOL jp
as far as the browser goes it seems a tad slower than the stock browser. if you dont like mobile view you can usually go to the bottom of most web pages and manually select "classic version" like on yahoo.com. i still use the stock browser but once chrome will support desktop view i will for sure switch makes my TP look like a desktop

I wouldn't be too quick in talking about the death of Flash. There are 10's of millions of sites using flash on the web. It'll take years to change them all. Btw, in all the notices I've read of Flash being developed for ICS, not once did I read a hint of it being grudgingly developed by Adobe. As well, if that was to be the last of Flash development, why are Adobe right as we speak developing Flash Player sandbox for Firefox?
Chrome beta is not running well on this release of buttah. Erratic and some weird stuff. Both are early releases of course.
