Via other information found on this board, I was able to start up my new Atrix without setting up a MotoBlur account. However, I see that I can't create any new Contacts, can't create new Calendar events, and can't get updates.
Is there a way around all of this, or do I have no choice but to create a MotoBlur account?
And in any case, I most certainly do NOT want my personal information shared with Motorola or anyone else - so how do I address that? Do I somehow restore the stock apps? Do I have to install new apps to replace the Contacts, Calendar, Email, SMS, etc...? If so, what exactly needs to be replaced, and what are the recommended top of the line apps to do it? (I don't mind paying)

Does anyone know of any software that will easily allow me to export contacts from one ROM and import it to another ROM so i don't have to keep re-entering data.
The reason behind this is because i'm still hunting for that perfect ROM, and I need to be able to take the contacts from one to another, I suppose i could put them on my SIM card but was just wondering.
You may use Microsoft MyPhone or PimBackup.
I use MyPhone because I find it more practical since it keeps you an online copy of all the info you want to backup/sync, and there's also the archive feature, among other interesting things.
a good way is to synchronise with outlook (contacts, calendar etc).
Hi,
I have Android 2.3 on my phone, like most here. But I'm not familiar with the inner workings of Android.
When I started it up, I created a dummy account. It's the one used for Android Market, so Google uses that account to track installed programs and purchased programs. When I did that, it looks like the whole OS got associated with that account - the first time I used that gmail program, it also logged into that dummy account.
I do have a personal gmail account that I want my emails, but I also don't want all my google searches and location tracked to my personal account. Not doing anything illegal, just don't want the big brother looking over me.
How can I make the gmail app use a separate account than the one associated with the OS?
It may make you feel more comfortable, but I promise you Google already knows more about you than you want them too. regardless of how many accounts you associate or don't associate with your phone. All of this info ends up on big Gs servers one way or another. They keep your phones unique ID and the email addresses associated with it - so all they need to do is query your ID and find both of your gmail addresses and call them both "you".
But to your point. You can add both accounts to the phone, but the "First" account will always be treated as the primary account--Getting all of your search history and what not.
In Gmail you can tap the email address in the top right hand corner to switch inboxes/account being viewed.
So I've just bought an SGS 3. My first Android phone, although I am pretty familiar with it. (I run CM9 on my HP Touchpad).
The contacts kind of baffle me, I've imported them from Google and Facebook, I've added only a few to the phone. And now I'm adding people from my old contacts list to the phone and then merging them with their Google / Facebook accounts.
While it looks nice, I have one big question, if I install another ROM or do a wipe, will they be restored? Or do I have to do this same thing all over again?
You're probably gonna say that I need to backup them, what's the best way of doing that?
Could you tell me how you merged the contacts with the Facebook/Email accounts?
Hello,
(I have already searched about this on forum, but didn't get a proper answer. So I am writing it down here.)
I have an issue with the "people" (contact) app of ICS.
I am being asked to make an account to make contact groups, which unfortunately I can't allow!
I can understand that you might not think this being an issue but can you please suggest about making
offline contact groups without making an account.
I hope you guys will help.
I am running on rooted phone with cyanogen mod.
Thank you.
I used an app called "Import Contacts" to import a .vcf file from my previous phone on gingerbread to the new one running 4.2.1.
This app imported it into local contacts.
But, if you want to manually add a new contact, you are still left facing the same problem.
I haven't figured a way around it.

Thank you for your help.
I already have contacts installed.
My issue is with creating groups from them.
As phone asks to create an account to do so.
That's where I am stuck.
I mean there must be a way to make contact groups without adding an account!
I really wish to have that option.
This is something I have never thought about as I am sure that most of us out there using android phones usually create an account in order to do what you can't... but I have to admit that it would be really great if creating contact groups without internet can be possible!
Found anything yet, anyone?
Hi!
I just came across this thread through Google when searching "use groups without google account". I think it's ridiculous to need a Google account to use use groups, I mean, it's a feature that has been on most "not even smart" phones for a while now. It would be really good to know if there's a way to have groups without creating / adding an account and without the need of third party apps.
Does anyone have a solution for this?
Thanks
I'm running cyanongen on my x10mp
is it possible to have multiple phonebooks and load each, as necessary?
for example, if I travel overseas, I want to store beforehand a set of useful numbers. but I dont need them back home.
so can I create an "overseas" phonebook, and load it, and only it, while travelling, and then restore the "normal" phonebook while I'm home?
I saw the C7 has an import/export function, would importing contacts add them to existing ones, or will the phone show only the imported contacts?
any apps to recommend which offer what Im looking for?
TIA
