Format of contacts on backup - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A small but annoying problem that is niggling away at me.
When i install any new rom and restore my contacts from sdcard. The format of the phone numbers have changed i.e 078-456-6756 where it used to be and should be 0784566756 . Any idea how i can correct this.
Thanks

MD5 Mismatch when restoring

Hi guys.
I have a little problem. I took backup of FreeX10 ROM with xRecovery before I installed a new custom ROM. Before I installed the new ROM i checked the backup files to see if there was a file that was broken with file size 0MB (experience before that some backup files is 0MB and it won't restore then). Everyting was OK.
So when I installed the new custom ROM and trying to restore the old ROM I get "MD5 Mismatch!". Sometimes before I've just removed the spaces in the name, but that does not help now. I have to get this recovery worken!
Do you guys know what to do? Can u help me?
Thanks.
Have u checked your busybox version is correct.
Not sure if this is the answer but i do remember it being mentioned else where.

Uhm, how do I check that? I don't have the BusyBox app installed. Only SuperUser (if that is the same).
I have manage to restore maaaany times before without problems
Just checked on my restored rom and there is no busybox there either. Sorry for that. Have u renamed your backups at any time. If yes there must be no spaces in the name.

But according to Titanium Backup, I have BusyBox 1.15.3 (from system).
Yes, I have checked the name and there is no spaces there
I just looked through all 117 pages of the xrecovery thread on my phone as i am sure it was posted there. If u on pc try a search of x10 forum and xrexovery thread.
My busy box version is the same. So guess it not that
Sorry cannot be of more help. Hopefully some clever persons will come to assist you more.

Its because you renamed it. I had the same problem so your gonna have to reinstall whatever rom you backed up

Or you did a full wipe before restoring.

I always rename my backups as to keep track of what rom it is. And no problems so far but always check that there is no spaces in the file name.

Just one more thing .
Have you used any characters in your filename ie / as this would also cause problems from what i have read.

Guys! I got it working now!
I just removed the ( ) in the file name and just had text and a . in the file name.
Thanks for the help guys
Had the same problem myself - I rename my backups so I know which ROM version they're related to...
Usually I keep the date, but change what I assume it the time stamp to detail the ROM:
e.g. 11-04-12.11.33.06 to 11-04-12 - CM7 vJ013
now doing something like 11-04-12.CM7.vJ013 (which now works)

Link2SD - Gingerbread Issue

Hey guys, I've a problem with gingerbread. I've created an ext2 partition on my sd card. LINK2SD successfully installs, but when I start the app it asks for partition type and reboots immediately. I never came across this problem with froyo. Please help me out.
Thank You
as far as I know, there is no solution yet,the problem is on ace you can't write the init.rc file yet.
Link2SD works perfectly on Froyo. Hence I'm holding back upgrading to Gingerbread until that's fixed .

For now, I worked around the problem this way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14159285&postcount=1317
You must install with Odin a CODE_S5830XXKP modified file (it contains changed init.rc).
You can use DarkTremor App2SD with VillainROM...

Cool, thanks for sharing. However, I wanted to ask if it is ok to upgrade to KPE and also do the above technique without any factory reset or wiping the data and having to reinstall all apps again. I already have Link2SD set up on my KC1.
Also, I dunno much about DarkTremor's A2SD, is it better than Link2SD in any way?

Every time you make a change with Odin, the phone is completely reset and data are lost (with a backup program is not a big problem). This does not happen just by upgrading by Kies.
Hmm, well not really an upgrade but I did reflash my KC1 when I got soft bricked twice, and all my data was intact I believe.

With odin? I do not know... Long ago I have flashed KC1 and recently KPE (two times) and this has always reset the phone memory (I lost applications, settings, etc.). Better for you
Yeah I did with Odin. Reflashed KC1 twice. I just lost certain minor stuff like Speed Dial numbers and all. My Google and other accounts were still there. Also my Messages.

You can use Titanium Backup or MyBackup for backup your apps and data... its easy and fast...
Yeah I have my apps backed up on Titanium. I just didn't want to deal with manually Link2SDing them one by one again.. I dunno if Titanium would restore the linked and non-linked apps as they are now.

Please help me....

Hello....i did a restore on my phone.....all my contacts has been erased....is there any way that i could get back my contacts.....
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
The better way is making a sync with google account, so you never will lost your contacts
btw If u didnt make any backup...you cant restore them
u cannot get it back unless u saved it to sim card =))
Unless you backed them up, no. You can restore a nand backup (I hope you have created one) and then backup the contacts.
I made a backup....but i dunno know how to get there....

Ok, did you make a nand backup (i.e from recovery) or did you backup the contacts(i.e exporting them to sd card or something) ?
If it's the former then boot into recovery and choose restore, and your previous rom with the contacts in all it's glory will be restored.

I assume that you're talking about a nand backup only... if you have made one, reboot into recovery by pressing power+vol down+back button simultaneously.. from recovery go to backup/restore and select the backed up file to restore it...
Yea i mean nand back up......thanks a lot....will try goin thru these steps ....

Titanium Backup...

I've just reflashed a new build of this custom ROM I'm using (Super Nexus to be precise) now I've done this before and the restore went fine but now I'm having trouble.
For whatever reason Titanium Backup can't find the apps to restore.. or anything for that matter. I have copied a folder containing all the apps that I backed up on both internal & external SD.
Can anybody help me out? it's annoying me now
Go to preferences and look for backup location.

Device Status: Modified

Hi guys, need a bit of help.
I have rooted my phone previously but did not like it so I flashed the stock rom with Odin. This left my device status as modified. Since it is modified I cannot get software updates.
Recently, I had to flash jellybean for my phone as it would not update ota or through kies. Now when pressing check for update in settings, it sais "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available".
Is there anyway to change the device status back to normal without wiping data? If not, how can I backup all my data so it can be restored? Samsung kies crashes when trying to backup apps and I'm not sure if mobile go backs up app data.
I am using the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, if that helps.
Thanks in advance

Root again, and run triangle away, then flash stock again via Odin and wipe data from recovery.
This removes all evidence of root and you will be completely stock with a binary counter of 0.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I did run triangle away before when my phone was rooted.
How do I wipe data from recovery?
Will it wipe all my user data?

Far simpler to join xda users and flash a stock rom via CHECKFUS .

The problem is that I have no proper way to backup my data so I can restore it after I wipe data (mainly app data as other data backs up in kies)

XDA Developers way .
root phone then backup via recovery .
Backup EFS folder
Purchase Titanium backup pro from the market and backup apps .
Also backup your contacts and any MP3 /Video can be copied to PC .
Download and save original firmware via Checkfus .
Update by flashing any stock rom or custom rom .

Just a quick question I didn't find an answer to there. When restoring data with titanium backup, do I still need to be rooted? I understand that backing up requires root though.

Dude, i dont know if sdk is a good/easy option. But try Nandroid Backup on play store.
But the problem is that all these apps from the play store that backup your device require root and I want my phone unrooted after restoring it. Those apps do require root to restore data right? If not then I am willing to use them.

i've used very simple method.
1) connect usb to pc - then select internal memory copy to sd card.
2) for some data will not show any items if connect via usb.But you still can move via file manager such as "solid explorer".Just select file and copy to sd card.It might take a little bit longer.
..i'm already done more than 20 times chg status modified to normal.Just ensure you use proper step as adviced by Xda senior..

So when restoring data do you just copy it back onto the phone?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Hi guys, I've left this topic off for a while but I'm back with new questions.
I have now found Holo Backup (Simple ADB Backup) to backup my phone without any rooting or complicated stuff. I wanna know that if I backup my device with its device status modified, will it still show modified when I restore it?
Also has anyone with an S3 successfully backed up and restored their phone using holo backup and if so what was the size of backup file. When I tried mine it came up with a file slightly over 1gb which doesn't seem right seeing as I have about 10gb internal data and 10gb of data on my micro sd.
Thanks in advance

Use Framaroot to root your phone (!!with SuperSU!!) after reflasing, use Titanium Backup to restore the apps and systemapp-data....
After you did it, go to SuperSU, go to settings and tap on Unroot.... Your device state will be NORMAL after that!
