[Q] Watching ripped avi files on G-tab issue - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First off. These forums have been amazing for this newb trying to get my device set up. I am good to go except for playing rippped DVD's.
I am running Calkulin+Clemsyn Froyo Combo.
I travel a lot so I am trying to rip my DVD collection into AVI's and then store on my 32gb micro sd card. I rip the dvd's into AVI's (currently DVD Ripper Platinum) on my PC and then copy over.
My issues:
1. I find that when I copy to sdcard2 (as opposed to sdcard) the files corrupt less often. Often times, I rip on pc, copy to sdcard2 and load with qqplayer and it hangs. I then copy the same file from the pc to sdcard and it plays. Strange.
2. Even when I get get the file to play, the quality is terrible. Audio ahead of video. Very herky/jerky during any type of action. Not sure if this is an issue when I am ripping or a Gtablet setting. Does avi vs mp4 make a difference?
Any help would be appreciated.

I've been watching ripped dvds as Xvid avi files on my gTab since day one without issues or problems. I use DVDFab and am running VEGAn 5.1.1 without any tweaks.

Thanks. What Gtab player are you using? Also, is xvid it's own format or is it a type of avi?

I also have no problem watching AVI or MP4. Try a different player. I use Summer Player from the market or the video player in ES file explorer. Calkulins and Clemsyn kernal.

Does your ROM have the video drivers that can utilize the nvidia video HW? When I was flipping between ROMs a while back, I recall that my video playback was poor on some ROMs because drivers were absent.
I have good video playback on all the tntlite releases and I am at 5.0.0 right now. I use the stock "normal profile" on handbrake to transcode dvd rips into mp4/m4v files. A typical movie is about 1G.
I have used the standard "gallery" to play movies, and currently use "mVideoPlayer" from the market.

For myself, I'm using VEGAN-Tab, 5.1.1 and the default player. I use AnyDVD with Handbrake and use the iPad preset. Works great with excellent video quality.

I think that may be the issue as I tried the suggestions posted and am still getting very choppy video. Can you let me know where to download. I did a search to no avail.
Thanks.

Issue fixed. Flashed Vegan-Tab 5.1.1 and everything plays great. Tried Ginger Edition before going to 5.1 and had same issues.

Right. I think only the releases up to froyo/2.2 have the proper drivers for decent video.

absolutely incredible...

I have a diff issue with watching videos. I feel as if the sound isn't loud enough no matter which setting I mess with. When I listen to music this is never an issue so I know sound is fine on my g tab. The video files play fine on my laptop and I have tried the volume buttons on top. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance I love this forum

I am having issues playing movies off of the microsd card. I have about 8 movies saved to a 32gb microsd. I have two movies that will play (they are about 800mb each) but all of the others don't play (they are all 1.2 -1.5 gb). Does anyone know if the gtab has issues with playing larger files off of the microsd. I am running TNT Lite 4.4 Any suggestions appreciated.

Can the Flyer play high-profile .mkv movies?
Also, can you transfer a 5-8 GB movie file to the Flyer and play it flawlessly?
The Playbook does NFTS storage so you can play 6 - 8 GB movie files. I don't know if the Flyer can do NFTS or not.
you mean, you'd like to know if you can format your SD card as a NTFS drive, and copy large video files on it?
No it won't play. I tried loading 720 mkv and it doesn't play. But the SD card is supported.
I tried to with an app downloaded from the market, it does play with sounds, but the picture is not that great.
I am using Plex to play all my videos (all file types including mkv). Plex re-encodes on the fly, saving you from having to re-encode your video for your specific device.
When I had my Transformer, I was not happy with the quality of the video. But on the Flyer's 7" screen its acceptable.
I need to set up a remote server so I can watch my vids remotely away from home.

:O i'm gonna try it, thanks for the info
Using Plex Remotely
Using this guide below, I was able to remotely access my Plex Media Server with my Flyer tethered to my HTC Thunderbolt.
http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Plex_Android#Enabling_Android_from_outside_of_your_home_network
Of note: To test your remote connection, make sure your Flyer is not connected to your home wifi network. In my case I tethered my Flyer to my Thunderbolt.
It works beautifully I might add.

I've read the vplayer and rockplayer should support MKVs. Supposedly you can get a cable for 1080p HDMI playback on an external source. I have not tried any of the above.

Maybe you can connect in 1080p but from what I've read the chipset does not support 1080p video decoding.
vplayer and rockplayer would not play back 720p mkvs for me. it would play 720p avi.
I cant remember which one it was, but one of the video players i tried would play them back on "software decoding" (as opposed to "hardware decoding"), but it didn't look good.
Try Moboplayer. It plays back 720p mkvs for me. Its not super smooth but its the lowest frame drops i've seen.

[Q] HDMI video great! but no sound?

I know a lot of you are thinking this has been addressed before but my problem isn't getting the video to play in entertainment center mode but the audio.....
But the thing is that it will only play sound in video's i recorded with my camera.
What im trying to do is play videos that i have taken from my computer and put them onto my ext sd card.
So like i say the video is just fine but it will not play back with audio.
Oh and they are avi and mpeg formats
Any ideas guys and gals?
The Tegra 2 seems to have crappy video/audio codec support. The samsung processor in the captivate I had previously played everything I could throw at it.
Thankfully, the T2 is powerful enough to do some software decoding. Try using various video players. I find that MoboPlayer can run all my HD videos so far.
Also, just because a file is .Divx, .AVI, .mkv.... doesn't mean that it will play. As far as I know, there are different encoding formats and levels for each codec. The T2 seems to be okay with any basic file, but none of the highly processed files such as movie mkv's.
If you try download another programe in market you would can see
But we can't do the dane for media center....so the better you can do for now is convert your vĂdeo tio an old codec
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Hmmm what codex is recommended? 3gp or something?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
what if i was to flash back to a stock sbf seeing as i'm running gingerblur right now.
would that straighten things out?

did you get any feedback??
I've been using Handbrake and the settings from here:
http://www.knowyourcell.com/motorol...d_transfer_them_to_the_motorola_atrix_4g.html
The only difference is that I like to click the "keep aspect ratio" button in handbrake for the resolution. Tweak as you like, but I've found that if you use the constant quality setting, A/V gets out of sync. Biggest bummer is that I have to encode specifically for the Atrix...can't seem to use my "advanced encoded" videos from my media server. I have taken previously encoded 1080p HD movies back though handbrake with the referenced settings to the Atrix and they play beautifully both in MoboPlayer and the Entertainment Center.

[Q] problem playing movies/videos

Have tried looking through the various forum threads but so much there that I have not come across this. I have had my GTab for a few weeks and love it. have tried several roms and thanks to everyone for the awesome amount of resources. the first 10 days I was able to play videos from my computer and even movies and tv shows. As of a couple of day ago I can not play anything, get sound but nothing will play including the same stuff that played so well before. Have tried converting videos to various other formats and no luck get error message saying can not play video. Is this an issue with the GTAB, any fix or solution have even restored it back to its original TnT state when it came out of the box. have tried video files in internal SD, external SD and even off a usb stick, same results. Any advice would be greatly appreciated....Thanks !!
I download a lot of avi, and xvid tv shows so I can watch later and without commercials. Currently I'm using Calkulin+Clemsyn 1.5ghz Froyo Combo VERSION 5. Even the stock movie player works nice and smooth(no converting). The only other ROM I tried was VEGAn-Tab GingerEdition. It's a good ROM, but not for video playback. I may switch to a Honeycomb ROM when the hardware acceleration issues are worked out.
I use Rock Player and it plays everything I've thrown at it... Although it sounds like maybe you're having some issues with the OS? Maybe try clearing settings for the video player or something?

[Q] Video playback issues

Hi guys, was just wondering if anyone had any issues playing videos (of any type) to play properly on their tab and if so if they have found a way to fix it..?
Recently bought a tab 10.1, and no matter what file type I upload - avi, mkv, xvid, divx, mp4, m4v etc none will play without pixelation on playback.
I've converted with 5 different converters, played using moboplayer, vplayer, rockplayer, diceplayer and mxplayer.
Youtube playback is fine, I'm going to try streaming tonight see if that's fine.
Don't really know what else to do. So any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

What quality of vids are you playing? 720p should be fine with those player especially mobo and dice
I'm not playing HD quality. Most of my video files are normal quality avi's. Really I'd really like it to just play them but it won't play them without the pixelation.
K well I tried streaming a video from my MacBook Pro to my tab via wifi and it works perfectly...
Thoughts anyone?
How are you transferring the files onto your tab? I have a MAc book pro also and the only way I was able to transfer quickly was via the USB adaptor...
I'm using Diceplayer and have encountered no issues with play back and most of my files are downloads and avi, mkv etc. I just plug and play, no converting or anythign and not encountered any pixilation or play back issues.
Seems what works for some doesn't work for others...but if streaming worked for you, try the adaptor for getting your video's onto the tab.

I'm using Kies, and that seems to transfer at a reasonable rate. Not too painfully slow.

Have u tried transfer it manually using usb data cable from pc to tab?
i'm not suprised you're getting pixalation issues if you're trying to transfer using Kies. I found it an absolute joke but then again I am using a MAC.
Just suck it up and buy the USB adaptor...and transfer files via a USB stick or use WIFI explorer
Ya, Kies is as absolute joke on Mac.
Didn't think that it was the program that was causing my problems. I searched and searched for days and converted god knows how many types of files when all along it the useless program.
I just transferred some files via the hubby's PC through File Explorer and it's now playing perfectly.
Total fail of a program. Can't update firmware on Mac, can't upload files, it can't even update itself.
Cheers for all the help guys.
Why not instead of the USB cable, download SwiFTP and setup an FTP server on the tab? Then just FTP files to it using FileZilla on the PC or something?

The file is 1.4 giga and for some reason when I tried to copy the to my s3 it also crashed (in the past I could transfer to the s3)
a lot of my anime and tv shows are in mkv format but they are pretty small in size and i have no trouble playing them with mx player. i might try a larger file and get back to you.
Edit: i transfered a 13.1GB file to my XTZ "The Hobbit, An unexpected Journey 1080p" x264 .mkv file (bearing in mind whenever you transfer something to your XTZ at least in my case, it will warn you the file may need to be converted to play on your device) and i played it using mx player at first it complained i needed a custom codec to play audio because of "dts" which i went and downloaded but the movie was still playing without audio and looked fine. After installing the codec i tried playing the movie again and it was working perfectly.
If you cant transfer the files have you tried a different usb cable to connect your XTZ to your computer or even tried using an sd card reader (if your using an sd card) ?
I'm having the same issues and can't figure it out. Smaller files around 25 mb transfer fine. Larger files like my tv shows, which are 1+ gb, crash windows explorer every time. Yet I can transfer the same files without problem using OTG and a thumbdrive. I'm running stock (4.12) on an SGP312. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx!
To the OP, mkv files play on the stock player but you wont get any audio if the audio format is AC3. Try downloading the vmplayer from google play. Works for me.
*** Also I tried a different cable and had the same results.
If watching anime, MX Player and BSPlayer are great options. I prefer to use MX Player because it renders perfectly .ass and .saa styled subtitles. Also the Hardware Plus (HW+) decoding works great. Only thing that won't be fully playable would be 10-bit color encodes that are getting popular among subbing groups, as this is due to hardware limitation, and software decoding is slow as heck with that format. So, anime in 8-bit and 1080p should run flawless.
For any other type of vids contained in mkv, MX Player and its HW+ decoder is also the one to go with. I play huge (+10GB) FullHD mkv files with no stuttering at all.
I used XTZ 32GB for all these tests.

I had no issues transferring large files (up to 8GB) over USB to my SGP312. Might be a driver issue in your Windows version. I am using Windows 8 64bit myself.
That being said, I am now solely using the app Wifi File Transfer Pro to send data wirelessly to my Tablet. It is not as fast as USB, but much more convenient.
Download some other media players for your tablet like VLC, MX players. If they can not help you achieve the goal, then I am afraid that you need to encode your videos into MP4 format via a third party programs inclucing Handbrake or Brorsoft Video Converter.
