I am having issues when I try to text message. Sometimes when I start typing it doesn't input anything into the text box. The keyboard shows that the keys are being pressed but nothing happens. This happens a lot but its nothing that I can reproduce exactly each time. It seems random! I would say it happens about 30%-40% of the time. To fix it I have to reboot or close the messaging program and reopen it several times. Sometimes its fixed the first time and sometimes it takes 5+ times.
I am currently using the stock ROM posted by jcase along with the original kernel. However, this has happened on ALL 3 other ROMs that I have tried as well as 2 other kernels.
Any help would be appreciated!
In case your wondering! Yes, I have always done a FULL wipe when installed my ROMS!
I reverted to stock and am unrooted using the jcase guide. The texting problem is still there! Anyone else having problems?

ive seen this discussed somewhere else, maybe it was ppcgeeks, but the problem is, i lose text messages when i soft reset.
i dont have much information about it, but if i soft reset soonafter a soft reset, or even an hour or so after a string of text messages, they will sometimes just not be there any more.
anyone have any idea why this is happening, or more importantly how to fix it?
thanks
i would really like some info on this. i cant offer any help other than verifying that it happens to me too. i think it has happened with both sms and mms too actually. i dont like it though
The only way I've been able to save my SMS when I reset is by holding the button to power the phone off rather than using the stylus to reset. Every time I use the reset button I lose info. Power the phone down, then turn it back on. Should help.
Sounds alot like a cache issue.... Sometimes things get put into mem cache and will be saved later when enough has been stored.... I do not know how to adjust it tho.... I'd say that between the 3 of you, there is a common program that you have installed that may be changing the way your messages are stored.... just a theory on my part, cuz I don't have that issue....
Perhaps 1 of you can flash the ROM from the 3.2.0 post and install nothing but your carrier and then send a bunch of SMS messages. Then do a soft reset to see if they stay....!
are you running a cooked rom?
i recall having this on pre 6.1 roms, though you will always risk data loss if you suddenly soft reset your device with the reset button instead of powering it down properly
i have used the same apps on my phone for a while and only started noticing this messaging issue recently. the more i think about it i think it might have started once i started using 6.1 roms. before that i was just on alltels updated stock rom and this didnt happen. but on both no2chems 5069k and now dcd's 3.2 it happens.
so..maybe its a 6.1 issue? maybe a 6.1 cache issue? all of these 6.1 roms we are using are going to have bugs so this is what im guessing.
just read the post directly above mine...... so maybe im wrong.
anyone else offer any suggestions?
This is definitely a cache issue I discovered some time ago, I think even with 6.0. If you use the reset button or pull the battery within an hour or less of doing text messaging you have to shut down Outlook/SMS first so that it will write the cache to the database.
I'm on Verizon.. This has happened to me even with the stock ROM. Not only do new text messages disappear, but if you delete all your text messages.. then reset.. they are all back.
It does appear to be a cache issue. It takes some time before changes are permanent I guess.
This happened to me on Stock with original Arcsoft, Also on DCD ROM 3.1.2, 3.1.6, 3.2.0.. with various Arcsoft versions 5.xx.
I have found no way to change this.. but I haven't checked all the reg keys for a setting that might do this. If I discover one, I'll post back.
Saved for later use....
Re: Droid Eris Issue/s!
I'm not too sure what this means of how I can figure out what or how to get a log file.
My phone has been doing a random slide all the way to the left. no matter what Rom I'm running. After a few hours my Eris, running 1.5 from jcase, and edited by k.
- Screen moves left
- fixs when I restart
- happened again after a few how's of phone on standby or playing.
- Also OS slow down.
- this has been on going for 3 days.
- wiped, everything.
-Flashed using same Rom, and 3 others. (Followed flash Rom steps.)
- Still same problem.
if anyone can it knows of any info or hoe I can make this more clear, I thank you.
sounds like a problem with the phone itself such as maybe a trackball issue. go to verizon and see what they say.
i discovered to 2 issues since i upgraded the newer 2.1. (i haven't flashed a custom rom)
one browser randomly closes while using it. my wife went to macy's website and it closed. no force close or anything.
two - google maps works, but if i i upgrade. every time i open the app a few seconds later it gives me a force close dialog box....

Just to let you know my wife was having similar problems with screen going left. I have seen some people just have it while on a charger but we had another problem the phone would randomly die at various charge levels and sometimes not boot back up without plugging the charger in. We were able to get a warranty replacement on the battery and the issue with screen scroll to the left has ceased.
thank you everyone for the feedback. I'm going to see what happened with everything. I might just turn this into a project phone. I will try to clean the trackball, and use my other battery. I greatly appreciate the replies.
I am running bionix nextgen v2, and It was working fine for the first few weeks and now I seem to be getting a problem where I cannot type anything, switching back and forth between the two keyboards does not help. The only thing that temporarily fixes the problem is restarting my phone. I can touch the letters and it will act like im typing it, even giving me word choices, but the word will not show up even if i use voice to text it will not show the words. Does anybody have a permanent fix for this or has had this problem before?

Try going into Settings>Applications>Application Management, click on "all" find your keyboards in there and clear data for each one, restart and see if that works.
I have tried what you said but the problem still occurs after some time after restart, also I have tried new keyboards but it seems that the words will not show up anywhere when I type them even for searching the web. And I know the keys are working because it still pops up as if I had pressed a letter
save everything and go to CWM and do a factory reset
Does anyone ever have issues with the phone/dialer app?
If I try to call someone from contacts, I swipe on their name to the right and nothing happens, if I try again, I notice the contacts app has frozen OR I try to swipe again and nothing happens again. Eventually it might work after 2 or 3 goes.
Then I'll hang up after finally getting it to make the call and the phone immediately tries to make the calls I tried to make earlier... This happens fairly often but not all the time.
OR – (this happens rarely but does happen)
Phone rings, try to swipe the green answer thingo and it just bounces back to where it was, try to swipe/answer again nothing. I can't answer the call. Happened today, really pissed me off. Phone app crashed and refused to make a call after that for about a minute.
Sound familiar to anyone?
Using Android 2.3.5 Vodafone (Australia) stock unrooted.
Anyone?
Would love some help on this.
Yes I am facing the same issues as you.
A few observations:
problems exist on stock dialer app as well as third party dialer apps
It's an intermittent problem i.e. sometimes the problem shows and other times it does not
I was facing the same problem a couple months ago too, since i was running 2.3.3 so i had just upgraded to 2.3.6 and the problem had disappeared. But out of the blue it has again started now while i am running 2.3.6
Currently i am running on stock rom, cf rooted, latest modem.
Am looking for a permanent solution and will post a solution if i find one, in any case hope the official ICS release (due on the 15th) should solve the problem anyways.
Anyone else facing the same problem?
Updates
Usually clearing the cache and calvik cache does not help resolve the issue.
After posting the above post I had just created a ClockWork mod backup and Restored to the same. Dunno how but that resolved the issue, or to be exact, the issue did not surface for a couple days.
Today the issue actually became too much for me to be able to handle.
So I again cleared both cache and dalvik cache and then fixed permissions via CLockWork recovery menu.
Since then I am not facing the issue yet. Hope it works for you too.
(But this is just a preliminary observation and maybe the issue shall resurface with long term use)
p.s. really hoping that the impending ICS update will permanently fix said issue.
Hey guys!
I've already posted my problem in the Nexus 4 Q/A-Forum.. till now without help. Well i thought that maybe here is a good place to get help, too!
So whats my problem.. Yesterday i flashed a new update of Xylon-Rom (clean flash) on my Nexus 4. Installed and restored all Apps. Usually I use Swiftkey 4 as keyboard, so I set up everything like all the times before. The last times everything works fine, but this time not. I set up SK as my standard keyboard and began to write. After a while I wanted to write again, but suddenly there was the AOSP keyboard. Changed back to SK. But after some moments it happend again. So everytime when there is a text input AOSP appears.. I change back to SK then, but after turning screen on some minutes later AOSP again.
As it would be not enough, the same thing is happening since yesterday on my gf phone (HTC One S, also rooted with Carbon Rom). Like on my phone, it never happenend before.
What I've done till now? Erased App-Data of both keyboards, disabled AOSP keyboard. Everything without success.
Dont know why it happens now... I often flash other Roms, Updates etc and I use Swiftkey for a long time. Restoring with Titanium works everytime. And this time i haven't done any other thing on Restoring.
I hope u understand my problem (my english isn't the best ) and anyone could help me!?
Thanks so far.
Cls
Tried to freeze the AOSP in Titanium -> no effect
Set Swiftkey as System-App -> no effect
:X
I was encountering this with swipe keyboard previously, and my solution was to use swiftkey.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
same thing
im suffering from this problem too.. no solution yet :3
