So i used to have CWM 3 (orange). Everytime i wanted to get into it i had to go through the stock blue recovery and flash update.zip. I tried to flash a DL30 rom through CWM and my phone wouldnt boot. Not only would it not boot but i couldnt get past stock blue recovery, the update.zip failed. so i had to odin a stock build.
Now i have red CWM installed, and i dont have to go through blue recovery to get to it. Am i safe to flash any ROM/kernel/theme now that i can get right into red CWM?
yes.
good day.

I had red CWM this morning, did the stupid update in RM. Fast forward, I just flashed via ODIN a whole 2.6 SC .tar. Now, when I reboot into recovery, it's blue...apply update goes to orange. In orange, if I go to advanced => reboot to recover, it goes back to blue. I just want my red back. Help Please
Try installing the latest version of CWM. And then delete Rom Manager, its version of CWM is quite broken for the Fascinate (and the developer doesn't care at all)... and none of the 2.2 roms appear to be able to get into Rom Manager either.
He actually fixed it, orange CWM works fine now, and he started caring.
I have two problems. I'll just deal with one for now. I did a root with super1click on my Vibrant 2.2, downloaded titanium backup, rom manager and flashed clockwork recovery but all I am getting is the purple text. I even installed the 3e recovery. How can I fix this? PLEASE HELP.
What rom ? Stock and what did you Flash in CWM ???
When you get to the purple text click on reinstall packages. You may have to do this twice. That should take you to the green recovery your looking for.
Powered by my Triggerized Vibrant
Stock froyo needs the modified 3e recovery.
It's in the development section.
So i rooted my phone manually (ran rage.bin, pushed su, busybox, and Superuser) and then used odin to flash the CWM_recovery_DL09.tar. to get to CWM recovery i had to go through blue recovery every time (apply update.zip). Once i got into CWM i flashed a DL30 rom and my phone wouldnt boot. not only wouldnt it boot but blue recovery wouldnt apply the update.zip. i had to odin back to DJ01 stock.
Now i flashed the EB01 root/recovery/superclean and then flashed the red CWM-all.
I have two questions. Did my phone originally brick because i was supposed to flash a DL09 rom instead of DL30 rom? And now that i can get into red recovery directly, am i safe to flash whatever i want?
I assume that since i dont have to go through blue recovery, and i can go directly to red CWM, i should always be able to get into CWM and restore a backup if i hose my system right?
unbelievable
Did the dl30 rom have a kernel? If not you were trying to run froyo with the stock eclair kernel. Can't imagine that works to well. And yes now that cmw is properly flashed, barring a major snafu, you should always new able to enter cmw using the 3 key method.

yesterday iwasaperson was extremely helpful to me. Thanks. I took my fascinate back to stock 2.1 and allowed it to update to 2.2. I then rooted my phone by flashing CWM recovery using ODIN. (red version) I had installed two files to root of drive one update.zip and the other for rooting the phone Su-----.zip. I ran them using the red version and restarted the phone. The phone is now rooted but I can't get back to CWM recovery.
I tried the following: I have ROM manager and flashed CWM but it wom't take. If I try to go into recovery I get the stock Samsung blue menu. I am thinking I need a different (CWM recovery comptabile) kernel or mod to get this to work.
Can someone help?
Reflash cwm, boot directly into recovery mode, and flash your custom kernel. The stock kernel tends to block access to cwm.

I keep trying to get in, but I'm always getting sent to the stock recovery... this is what i'm doing
first I installed root access... Update.zip is in the internal memory (if i put it on the SD card, when I click reinstall it says file isn't found . . . ?), Update.zip is still there (not sure if I was supposed to remove it)
1. Open Rommanager
2. Clck Flash Recovery ClockworkMod Recovery
3. Pick Vibrant (MTD)
4. Pick ClockworkMod 2.x
5. Click Reboot into Recovery
when I do this it brings me to the stock recovery, tried about 3-4 times now with no success
Question: Are you on the stock rom?
If so, you can select "Galaxy S Vibrant" in Rom Manager to flash CWM, then reboot to recovery. The MTD one I believe is for 2.3 roms that can't boot into CWM via 3 button combo.
first off u have root correct? u have to install packages twice first. Then u will end up in green recovery. Then from green recovery flash any rom. But if ur trying to flash cm, u wanna pick 3x not 2x.
Ur update package could be corrupt, get a new one.
nevermind, i figured it out, i just simply rooted it with CWM manually instead
