[Q] Wireless Tethering To XOOM (Can't ad-hoc) - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of a rom/baseband/kernel combination that would allow me to wifi tether, but not using ad-hoc?
(Barnacle & Wireless Tether uses ad-hoc and the xoom won't pick it up...)
Or even if theres an app that i haven't tried?
X10a currently using Wolfbreak CM6 w/ .55 baseband

U need a custom kernel to do this! Because Stock kernel have no netfilter!

Just wait till June, the new SE kernel should have it

Do you if netfilter is also required for Bluetooth tether?

[Q] is there a wifi tether for Gt540?

i tried diffrent versions but none of them work i already installed the kernel. But when i click the "start tethering" picture the app crashes . Please help me
I use barnacle wifi tether. You can find it on market. It's free. And it's working for me.
Note: your phone must be a rooted phone.

Yes - can also only recommend that app for now until going for Froyo 2.2
Using it with Eclair 2.1 and Barnacle Wifi Tether from szym.net is working out of the box.
At 2.2 tethering does not work. How ever, i use CM6 and they say it _can't_ work because its not set on by coders

PDAnet or barnacle wifi tethering r the best apps. Look up on google for full versions. Some might be in market. But those r the top two.

this didn't work either- it showed up but when I connected it said could not find ip.
what rom are you on?
I have a Samsung Fascinate running Wifi Tether 3.1.beta6 and a Touchpad. I do not have any issues connecting the TP to the Fascinate and browse the web.
As mainic20 asked, what rom and kernel are you running. I am running the power wash rom with the GeeWiz kernel. The powerwash kernel did not support WiFi Tether. When looking at the logs it indicated that drivers were missing. The app did load and provide me with the icon to activate the wireless. Also seemed to load looking just at the icon but log showed drivers not found.
So be aware that all kernels do not support wifi tethering.

Hey,
I guess you are aware of koush (koushik dutta); he developed an application named "Tether", it works seemlessly for me. Just hit your browser towards http://www.clockworkmod.com/
"Wireless Tether for Root Users" from market

This one works for my computer using, but it's using ADHOC. My android tablet can't connect.
CM7 connection sharing was very good, my tablet and my computer connect to it without any problem...
You know, it's been over a year since I first got this phone, yet I never got the native wifi hotspot to work quite right. Stock or custom ROMs. Am I missing anything here?

in your apn list choose "minternet" before using wifi tether. don't choose the "yourproviderGPRS" you can't share GPRS in wifi tether even in usb tether.

with cm 7 tethering worked fine.
can you use the standard tethering? (the android stock...)
if i try to activate mine it does nothing...

Like I said in the general thread of cm9... barnacle or wifi tether are third party apps... only can create ad-hoc networks that Android by default can't see... for the tf-101 there is a modded wpa_supplicant that can make the tablet "see" ad-hoc networks so you can connect to it....
PS: the reason of why cm7 stock tethering works if cz android stock tethering creates an infrastructure network.... and the reason of why only honeycomb tablets can't see ad-hoc networks is cz they don't have CyanogenMod... and cm have this feature enabled

Sorry dude it's for my fellow countryman..
Here in Philippines we have 3 or 4 apn that our service provider sends us.
1. "yourprovider"GPRS - this one is set with the proxy i.p adress.
2. "yourprovider" Internet - the one with the minternet at apn
3. mms
4. blah blah and others
i once tried to use the connection 1 and share it with wifi tether. Sure there is a wifi hotspot but there are no connections. I thought i can share 0.facebook to my computer. like free fb with my pc browser. and it fails
so i tried to top up a load and use connection 2 with the "minternet". and it works.
