I really like this phone but the battery drain is terrible. I have that verizon extended battery in it(2750mah) but even with that the phone will lose about 10% battery in about 1 1/2 hours during non-use and roughly double that if im browsing the web.
I have Battery Doctor and Juice Defender running at all times and disable anything i dont need to have running. Also, for some reason Battery Doctor does not display my current battery status accurately so i use a basic battery stat widget to know exactly how much battery is left.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what i should do? Apps i should use/not use? Oh and i do keep display brightness down and have done a full cycle charge.
Thanks!

I don't know if this would help/is recommended, but I decided to bump charge mine once. It seemed to help me out, but opinion seems to be split on whether it's good for the phone or not. I also use only friends and calender widgets, and about 4 toggles (airplane mode, gps, wifi, mobile). I generally turn off mobile network where wifi is available. I have been off the charger since 8 am and am at 83% with light use (a few texts, a little facebook, etc). I do use Watchdog lite (to watch for misbehaving apps) and autorun manager (to tweak what runs on startup). I should probably also mention that I have the stock battery.
Turn off 3g manual in settings.
Make the Radio do 3G Only.
Put the phone volume half way.
No vibrate when receiving a text and audio play after the text.
No vibrate feed back when touching the home, menu, back and search button Which can be found in settings>sounds>haptic feedback. Uncheck it
-Monky_1
I have a stock battery.
I use the battery monitor widget to keep an eye on battery use and rogue apps. If I go over 50mA at idle, there's something that's running when it shouldn't.
I also have wifi sleep mode after 15 minutes of idle. And I keep blutooth and gps off. Also LTE only since i have excellent coverage here.
And i use Tasker to turn on airplane mode overnight (turns off all radios) and also silence all alarms, lights, vibration...
I get through about a day and a half of normal use no problem. Once cm7 is out i imagine i will get 2 or more days no problem, as it tends to idle at less than 10mA which would be a dramatic overnight difference.

Are there any good ways to extend battery life besides the obvious stuff (no WiFi, GPS, screen brightness, etc.)? I just converted from my iPhone 4 to a Nexus S and battery life is pretty miserable - I can make it through a day but I have to plug in as soon as I get home. If I could stretch that 12 hours to 18 or so it'd be perfect. My iPhone could do 24-36 no problem, so I feel like 18 should be reasonable.
You can try different kernels for your firmware. The custom ones (good ones) normally consume less battery.
You can try to calibrate your battery, as well.
That is if you're rooted. If you're not there's not that much you can do. Install Current Widget from the market and let it be in standby for around 1 hour with WiFi and that stuff off, and check how many mA it's draining.
Other than that, turn auto sync off, and don't let everything send out push notifications (news readers, Facebook etc.) and if you're using a weather widget check that it's not updating every 30 mins or something.
BazookaAce, but having a smatphone like this without being rooted it's a waste of gadget...IMO.
Yeah, I'm rooted and running brainmaster's MIUI ROM. I do have syncing turned on for everything, I'll try messing with that since I certainly don't need FB or Twitter updates every 30 seconds.
just dont use any of battery saver tools. it doesnt work. wipe battery stat if ur phone rooted.
I have a similar problem. I am running an XT860 and am barely getting 12 hours and that's with an extended battery! I have read that keeping the software on your phone up to date usually improves the battery life.
What kind of droid do you have?
Root your phone, install cyanogen or miui.
Download setcpu app.
In setcpu, set it so your phone uses 500-600 mhz of processor speed when the screen is off.
That alone should help your battery life by at least 25%.
Not so sure setCPU is the end all solution here. I have this as well and I have mine actually down to 245mhz when in screen off mode, yet my battery life still is horrible. I have screen brightness pretty low and only gmail is setup to autosync, and checking the stats gmail does not use much of the battery.
I think it also has a lot to do with how good of a signal you get in your area. If your phone is constantly cycling through to get a signal that will eat up your battery as well and is pretty much out of your control.
Dropping the speed with the battery life sucks hd2 setcpu that does not taste at all
Wanted to know from those getting 2 days out of the mini pro, what are your systems settings to make this possible.
1: I have my screen to less than 50%, can only still manage a day.
2: Do you guys turn off 3G HDSPA?
3: Does wifi use more or less battery than HDSPA?
4: Any of you using a blue tooth headset?
5: Any specific apps to kill?
6: Any special battery conditioning done? If so steps?
7: Do you guys have exchange e-mail on? push or pull?
The battery meter is showing more than 50% going to the screen.
Good that it seems I don't have an rouge apps and the wireless doesn't seem to take up too much battery, but a let down that I can't get more than a days worth of battery.
Found some decent battery recommendations here

Why are you trying to make your battery last 2 days? Do you not have access to a charger everynight?
Also I do not recommend you 'kill' any apps, due to the nature of Android. If you 'kill' an app, it's very likely it will just start up again, using more CPU cycles than if you just left it idle. This is especially an issue if you are using an auto-killer.

1. set 40%, add widget at front wall for fast switching (to 80%)
2. turn off mobile network (data), add widget at front wall for fast switching (to enable)
3. -
4. no
5. using system panel lite to clean and root uninstaller to remove apk at system app (currently memory at 230M-240M)
6. restart phone 3 time per day, use 1800mAh, charge phone when >5% energy, to 100% (45minutes), turn off while charging is more better.
7. no - exchange e-mail running at background processor (any unwanted background I will kill or remove; currently only 3 apps still running)
use dark theme/wallpaper for energy efficient (low brightness) and use earphone to listen music

I'm not sure what value this message is supposed to provide. I've seen folks post that they can get 2 days or better out of the phone, if so what's wrong with wanting to do the same?
Also note that there are times when it's inconvenient to charge and I'd like to defer charging. I'm pretty much out of juice by end of day the work day, but would like to have a few more hours of battery left, having the phone on the charger all the time isn't always convenient.

I understand if your phone is starting to go flat then you might want to start conserving battery, but if you have the ability to charge it then why not?
I agree with r33p. Using a task killer is possibly one of the worst things you can do to try and save battery. Using less memory does not save battery at all.
Also im not sure if this is true, but using a dark theme does not save battery as the backlight is still on, but screen is just 'hiding' it to create the black you see. So if anything it uses more battery.
I tend to keep a widget on my home screen to turn off data, wifi, and bluetooth. I turn them on when I need them, turn the off the rest of the time. As long as you aren't doing heavy internet browsing on your phone, you should be able to get two days use out of it.
Hopefully we'll get some custom roms for these things so I can justify rooting my phone. Then I'll uninstall all of the stock apps I don't want, both to clean up my app screen and to hopefully stop some of those background processes I don't need.

I must agree. Using a dark background does not save battery. That only works for oled or amoled based screen like the galaxy s series. Also they're right, don't use a task killer. Terminating apps just consumes more battery.

i can last 1,5 day without charging.
if i dont do anything special besides reading mail and answering a few whatsapp messages i do about 3-4% an hour. if i dont do anything at all, like at night, it uses 1-2% an hour.
1.screen is 35%
2.i have 3g on. sometimes i put it on 2g only
3. i dont know but i turn off wifi en bluetooth whenever i dont need it.
4. i use bluetooth in my car tot connect my phone with my car. unfortunately this uses a lot of battery by being just connected.
5. i kill the popgames, this uses a lot of battery
6. most times i let the battery go empty and only then start charging with the powerconnector, not through usb with a computer.
7. i dont have exchange but imap push email and another account pop3 which connects once every hour. i use the app k9mail
last weekend i did 2,5 day but i was abroad and didnt have roaming data and turned off wifi en bluetooth.
i did 1% a hour except when i was driving and connected my phone to my car.
but still 2,5 day

Does 2g only save battery over wifi and 3g? If so, is it sufficient for e-mail?
Mike
I normally put all of my most used widgets on the front page for quick access
3g or wifi pref. 2g is painfully slow.
Yea and forget appkillers, delete the apks or freeze the unwanted services.
The tricky part - what (not) to delete.

You need root to do that, however.

yes 2g saves battery
i was told that because of the continues switchting between G, 3G and H the battery consumes a lot of energy.
when you put it on 3g only or 2g only it saves battery.
becasue i dont have 3g everywhere i go i put it on 2g so that i can make calls everywhere i am.
if i need to do some things on the internet i switch it back to 3g.
2g is enough to recieve mail and whatsapp messages.
my mail wont come in as fast as wifi or 3g but that doesnt matter to me.

How do you set it to H only? Is this via WCDMA only?
I'd love to drop the bloatware, but want a clean root option that won't affect functionality.
Mike
I have about 2 days. Currently I'm on 82% 12h since charge. My experience:
1. I keep 3G switched off most of the time when I'm outside. Only if I really need the speed for uploading a photo or update an app.
2. I keep Wifi running all the time at home.
3. I have disabled Location&Security both Use network and GPS. These seems to drain battery even if maps and latitude is disabled.
4. In the carrier settings I have disabled automatic mode and going for manual mode and selected my carrier.
5. I always use the back button on any app until I reach the home screen before locking.
My idle drain is about 1.5-2%/h when I'm at home with wifi. Outside with 2G it's draining a bit more and with 3G it uses insanely much battery.
I have lot of push services running (fb/g+/twitter-notifications, Whatsapp and gmail + an Exchange account)
I have also noticed that the battery calibration is a bit flaky. From time to time I run the phone until it dies (sometimes at 8-10% but sometimes at 30%). Then I'm unplugging the battery for a minute, plug it back and charge and it have calibrated and doesn't die at 30%.
Another thing I have noticed is that I can't get more than 4172mV charge. The battery should be able to charge to 4200mV.
Two good apps for monitoring battery usage is BetterBatteryStats and Battery Monitor Widget (which is more than just a widget)
do you guys charge till it reaches 100% or just till it turns green?

thats one other discovery I have made.
when the phone says 100% it's actually still charging (can be seen that there is a charge indicator at the battery and also can be seen from Battery Monitor Widget)
Another thing is that when it has reached 100% it starts to drain battery until it reaches 95% then it starts to charge again. (nothing uncommon with that) but the phone still shows 100% so sometimes when it's unplugged it can actually be at 95% (but starts to countdown from 100%).
Battery Monitor Widget can alert when it's actually fully charged with a notification.

Hey, so I don't use my phone very much, and the battery life is almost laughable.
When I go to school, I turn off my 3G, and I usually listen to music for about 10-20 minutes before going to class, and then (today), I didn't really use it for the rest of the day. On the way home, I turned my data on, and I was playing some Cut the Rope for about 5-10 minutes. When I got home and put it on the charger, it was 60%. Is there any way to improve this?? I have my screen brightness at the lowest possible, and it's bewildering how it can get that low when I barely use.
When I had my DInc, I could do all this, and when I got home, it would be around 85 minimum.
nothing to concern about
I know you turn off your data during school hours but when you turn it back on, it will check all applications to see if there are any updates. You can just use your smart actions. Turn off background sync and cellular data until it's plugged in to a charger.
Try Badass Battery Monitor
Your battery life is way out of line with what I get. I never turn off 3G (My area isn't 4G yet.), and I barely use any battery unless I am actively using the phone. I am usually over 60% after being up for 10+ hours of moderately heavy use. I think that you may have an app that is not allowing your phone to sleep. Badass Battery Monitor from the Market will help you find it. Good luck!
From my experience, go to settings, applications, running services and in there see if something called "media" is running and if so close it.
I never run 3g unless 4g is down. And normally after 12+ hours with an hour charge in the day during my breaks at work I'm just getting into 10-20% battery. And that's with moderate usage. So your battery life is abnormal from my point of view.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA App
I get about 7 hours of battery everyday through medium usage and my battery drains quite a lot when I am revising and listening to music. I have a 1900 battery instead of the stock 1650 and it does improve battery life but is there anything else I can do? I find it a bit stupid that my battery drains so much when I'm just listening to music!
I am running CM9.
Whats the signal strength like in your area? Aside from the screen (put screen brightness down), 3g seems to drain my battery most in weak signal areas, where the signal bars are continuously on 1 or 0. I put my 3g / data off and my phone can easily go hours before any drop in battery percentage, I got 4 days battery life with 3g off using it sparingly or wifi when i could to check my emails. Only other thing i did was calls and texts, but that was just as a test.
But i like to keep data on, and gps, all the time. I often get 4 hours screen time and approx 24 hours battery life with my 2000mAh Samsung battery.
Aside from that, last time i checked cm9 was a battery drain, may have moved on a bit.
the only real way you can save battery "during use" is with some restraint. Ie turn brightness down if screen is on, listen at lower volumes if it's playing music. The more voltage it's using the faster it drains. So less brightness or volume output = less power used.
7 hours is around the average use for battery life savy users around here. Even with the extended battery I'd say your right about on the money for battery use (based on what I assume you do and don't know at this stage). But there is certainly room for improvement .
Now before I go on, you probably won't notice any significant difference to battery life during use from these steps. My only hope is that in-between use it'll save more power, and squeeze out a bit more usage time for you.
First/easiest thing would be go to check if it's sleeping properly. Just don't use it for say an hour, then go to the battery monitor in settings. Check the screen on and awake times, they should be almost idenical. If there are several awake records in between screen on's, then you have a problem.
If you use sounds like unlock sounds etc, go turn them all off.. this was/pretty sure still is an issue in CM9 (causes audio_out1 to continuously wake up the phone from deep sleep and drains the battery like a mofo). Also getting rid of facebook (if it's installed) will help.. it loves waking the phone for no obvious reason.. even with every form of sync, background data, and mobile data in general turned off .
^^ you don't have to do that step but I'm pretty confident you'd have to anyway, so it's just easier to do it straight up. Then you can look for other problems.
Next, install "better battery stats". If you like to support developers, you can quickly buy it off the market. Otherwise it's free here if you search for the official thread.
Reboot your phone, then leave you phone for an hour or two, then check out whats happening in better battery stats. I'm not going to pretend I unerstand what half of the stuff it bangs on about is, but I digress. Select "since charged" and then check each different tabs of data (partial wakelocks, kernel wakelocks etc). You are really just looking for anything that stands out as a red bar basically. small amounts aren't a real worry/bound to happen. If it's bigger than say 1cm long, it's probably an issue. Then it's up to you to find out what the app/process is doing the damage . So either google or the better battery stats thread will be your friend at that stage. It was obvious what is was for me cause it said facebook but you might have a different experience.
Hope that helps. But the only way that's going to make a real dent would be trying to use it less.. lol.
Oh and if possible, turning on airplane mode would save a bit of battery in use. And of course the obvious ones like turn of wifi, gps, bluetooth, data, auto sync, soft key backlight and anything else you can turn off
Just do it what i say .. Download the full version of app. called juice defender from play store..install it and then see the magic by yourself ..i have been using the same ..it almost double up the battery backup through its advance settings.

I have read the other battery problem posts and haven't seen that anyone has reported similar problem to mine...
Typically I have a full day of use with my Gear S (BT on; wifi, mobile and gps off) and come home with about 45-60% battery.
However, about once a week I have had it suddenly chime with the low battery alert after only 2-3 hours, same settings!
What is going on? Notifications from Google Now are kind-of excessive (once an hour), but don't have any special apps installed except Watch Styler and Zooper wearable widgets. Anyone else with random poor battery performance?

Mine has better battery life on some days than others. I haven't had it that long but all of my settings remain the same, but its definitely not as drastic of a difference.
Hmmm, wish it was that way for me. I'm sure one of apps is hanging in the background after being triggered or opened, though not sure which one or what else it could be. :-/
Same Problem
When I am work, my battery dies in less than 8 hours even with VERY little use. When I am away from work (weekends, etc.), my battery will go all day with phone calls and texts and even GPS usage. I'm wondering if it's related to the Wi-Fi or cell signal I get in my office. I have Wi-Fi turned off on the watch but it made no difference. Something must be "active" to cause it to drain that fast! Less than 8 hours with very minimal use.....WTF??????

Is your mobile network on the watch set to auto or always On? Maybe you can try turning it off and see if it helps save battery life..
I agree with the post about turning your cellular data off as the watch will constantly try to get information and if it is a weak signal it causes battery drain.
Well ever since i switched the cellular data to edge my battery consumption it reduced to almost blue tooth levels...about 3-4 % per hour [emoji2] i can can have it remotely connected all day with out any problems.

I've notice that some clock styles are huge battery drainers and mobile data on, eats up your battery like crazy, also motion. BATTERY IS THE ONLY BIG DISAPPOINTMENT THIS WATCH HAS
For me the trick was to never turn my watch off! I now put it in airplane mode overnight and deselect in the morning. I'm still not sure what causes my problem, but powering up the watch would result in about 20% battery loss per hour. I think it is a software loop running in the background after the watch engages in system update check. Now I get through the day with about 50% battery remaining and can use motions and even always-on.
