Hello, got nandroid to work in 345! am a noobie so cant post in the development area (NEW StreakMod Recovery) in answer to the thread about recovery.
I chose to delete etc/install-recovery.sh file, pastly out of fustration of making a backup/renaming. The only thing that was different was that I was low on power so I attached the usb cable to give it power! Dont know if this made any difference?
Forgive my ignorance, but what's so special about nandroid?

You can backup the current rom on your phone. Meaning you can save it and share it with the community so that those with older roms can update their phones or those putting on custom roms, can have a stock rom to go back to.
Further to my post above.
I bought a Streak second hand, locked to O2, about a month ago. Since then I have got through the process of unlocking, through the net/software, (bricking it in the process), recovering the “brick”, unlocking again using the same unlocking system/software (don’t use win7 X64! but XP), rooting, upgrading to official O2 rom 2.1, upgrading again from O2 to 2.2 OTA, using streakmod to upgrade to rom 345 and finally making the nandroid! My phone is now unlocked, rooted, and updateable to any rom I want to try (345 is fine for the moment). All this was done without cost apart from the software to unlock. That is why I was so bubbly about the nandroid!
I could not have done this without the forums (mainly xda but others as well) and wish to say THANK YOU to all the people on the forums who like me enjoy tinkering! Thank you once again.

Please don't be angry. I am severely confused over this whole update thing. With the bootloader, and the leaked rom, and the official ota rom.....good lord it's like my mind is trying to hump a doorknob.
Anyway... I have 2.2.2, rooted (although by which method, I cannot remember). I do not have any mods. I have side-loading enabled. I have tethering enabled.
What is the safest way, in plain english, to update to the newest version? I don't know what SBF means, I don't know what CWM means, I don't know what RSD means.
All I want as an end result is a rooted version of the latest, OTA update with an unlocked bootloader.
Please help the ignorant
Edit: I guess I should tell you that I'm in the US on an ATT atrix.
You may want to confirm with someone with more experience, but this worked for me (rooted 1.8.3, OTA 2.5.91), I'm too damn new to even post the link ... pm me I guess hah

if you do the over the air update you will not have an unlocked bootloader unless you do it before there are custom roms that are just as good and stable as the official ones that will root unlock your bootloader and upgrade if you want to do all of this follow my guide here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179506
Just to enlighten things a bit...
a SBF (i believe it stands for system binary file?) is a file that contains an official (made by the manufacturer) ROM for a cellphone. The entire operating system and kernel.
RSD (a.k.a. RSDlite) is a software designed by motorola, to use on your computer to install these SBFs on a cellphone via USB connection.
CWM is a piece of software for your phone that is accessible during boot, before the OS loads.
- After installed, to use it, you have to turn on the phone holding both the power button and the volume down buttons. The phone screen will show "fastboot". That's only one option in a series of options that you can scroll through using the "volume down" button, and that you select using the "volume up" button. Scrolling down, you'll find the option "Android Recovery", which will access whatever CWM you put in place.
- It's function is to allow the installation of ROMs and Kernels. Its basically a simpler alternative to RSD, requiring no pc to function.
And to update your device, first you must install RSDlite on your computer, and install the Pudding SBF on your phone using it. After that, You have to install Tenfar's CWM on your phone. Then you'll choose one of the avaiable ROMs (there's the stock one posted up by kennethpenn, a version of the stock one with a few upgrades, and several customized ones), which you will install using CWM.
The detailed steps are on the NOOB GUIDES fixed post on one of the Atrix's foruns, but I beleive those explanations shall make that road a little less bumpier.
Simple answer
Hi I'd just like to add my 2 cents from the update experience.
If you are rooted prior to the update, installing the official update of gingerbread from Motorola will make you lose root privileges-plain and simple.
In my case unlike you I did not have sideloading enabled. That was the only difference in your situation and mine. So that's a question for a Senior member to answer.
If I were you, I'd just go ahead and update regardless. This forum has a lot of information in resurrection of the bricked phones in the 1% chance that it may happen. 99% you will update to the gingerbready awesomeness.
Another piece of advice is that after exploring a lot of features of the stock rom, i felt that the launcher is the Achilles heel of motoblur or blur UI as they call it now. Try using adw launcher?. It's fast and fantastic. Completely customizable.
This ends my 0.02$.
The way to get unconfused is through education. Find a couple of hours and a pen/paper.
Read the wiki here.
Watch the videos here.
Take notes and follow up in the threads, if you have questions.
kind of a noob myself, but find everything pretty simple. This is an awesome ROM with what you are looking for.

So I need an SD card ey? Hmm. Ok, well, thanks for the info.
I thought we had a wiki somewhere. Oh wait! We DO!
I have a very similar problem on the lines of i have no idea what the hell is going on and what ppl are saying...!!
But what a bigger problem is is that i have a Orange UK version phone, tho i dont use Orange network... and apparently everything is for ATT phones... so im not sure if any of these things are even compatible with my phone...!?! im running froyo 2.2.2 and want to somehow get onto 2.3.4 but just dont know how...?!?!?!
Im new here, and after watching the newb video, and looking around I have started to get my knowledge base up. I cannot afford to brick my phone as I am completely broke and this phone will be my only contact back home when I deploy.
I have a streak 5 running 2.2 on the Rogers network in Canada. (screen broke so they are sending me a new one and it arrives with 1.6).
I have a wish to root my phone so I can get rid of useless programs that rogers has put on my phone.
I need to know if there is a fool proof way to create a back up so if I have to send this one back too, Rogers wont know that I rooted it.
I am truly sorry if someone has already posted an answer for this, I have a 2 year old to catch and I have hardly any computer time.
I also have questions about custom ROMs but I havent done all my research yet
Thanks guys!
[REF]Everything you wanted to know about the streak, but were too busy bricking it
Update using the built in updater, then you can install streakmod which is a custom recovery
By update, do you mean to use the OTA upgrade to 2.2 offered from rogers?
Yes, start from there
ilikemygooglephone(dot)com/2010/10/09/step-by-step-clockworkmod-recovery-on-dell-streak-for-windows-mac-linux-andorid-2-12-2/ in here it says to root your phone before. can i install streakmod before i root?
If you need to root, install streakmod then superuser.zip
Stay away from custom ROM's, at the end of the day they're not worth the trouble IMO. People will disagree with me, but most of them have probably spent at least 8-10 hours messing with them. Stick with 354 or 351 for stability and reliability.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
is there a location that I can find a step by step process for COMPLETE NEWBS? I have not been able to find out how streakmod or clockwork mod install/work. I need to know how I can install one of these programs and how to restore a phone. If my phone is destroyed I need to be able to buy a new one and restore my old phone onto it.
Try starting here
And this guide is good.
You only need Streakmod if you are planning to flash a custom rom, otherwise just flash the latest 351/354/360 rom and recovery.
Hello,
I am getting a bit confused with all the threads and I really don't want to mess up my phone. I have rooted it and my background is the Xperia X10, on Rogers too. I would like to test out some different ROMs or maybe even the ICS Rom that just came out from the EternityProject team. However, if I understood, there is no way to revert back to stock since we have a locked bootloader. Can anyone could just guide me to threads step by step? I read the tutorial to flash the Arctic Rom, but I am not sure what to do. Is the bootstrap recovery this? If so I guess I can go from there... I was a bit scared since it was saying unofficial. Would it work for Rogers Canada? Most of the things I see are for US or Europe.. Please help me out, would be much appreciated!
I just reread the bootstrap thread.. Having a question regarding this. There is a note stating that you can only access it through Android.. I am guessing I need to reinstall the bootstrap everytime I flash a ROM.. right? Sorry, pretty lost. Thanks for any help! I just feel like it was wayyy easier with my X10..
I came from the X10 on rogers too!, I seems the X10 was way easier to understand and mod. I am so lost with all this motorola stuff too!
Advise
Hey there guys, well I would advise not to flash anything unless you have at least a ClockWork backup of your phone after you rooted and installed the bootstrap recovery. The bootstrap recovery is an .apk file which you install and run from the phone itself not in recovery mode like most other unlocked bootloaders.
I'm holding off myself because there is no full flash file from Rogers as of yet, the closest one is the Brazil Xt910 flash using RDSlite. Still if you flash that if something goes wrong with your tweaking you won't get the CSC files from the Rogers Rom unless I guess you back them up. I'm not quite sure if you can actually pull the csc files from the rogers and port it over but it's worth a try if your daring.
At the moment I'm content with root and backing up the system folders and other partitions just in case something goes wrong, remember to backup your efs as well.
Thx for ur input gdmuscle, makes more sense now. I might risk it once there is a stable Ice Cream Sandwich ROM. I admit for now it is kind of useless to risk that much with the lack of ROM choices. Much appreciated!
And Chriskwan, yea, was much easier with the X10 lol. Good to see some canadians feeling the same way! Btw I am in contact with Moto to see when the update should arrive at Rogers.. Will make a thread if i get an update
After playing around with a Rogers Droid Razr the past 3-4 days trying to figure out ROMs and such, I can safely say I will never actually BUY this device.
There is WAY more community support for the Galaxy S2, and it is a lot easier to manage. Flashing via odin, is MUCH simpler. The stupid fastboot crap is annoying.
well for the razr its much easier than using odin i can assure u that...
1. get the root package and root your phone ... its a simple script u run and it does the rest...
2. get bootstrap.apk and cwm-on-boot.zip ... put the cwm zip in the root of your sd card (external sd)... install the bootstrap ... reboot into your recovery using the app... and then install the cwm on boot zip...
3. make nandroid backup (mad slow)
4. get the deodexed rom needed for arctic... wipe, install that
5. install Arctic...
thats the condensed guide ofcourse... just a few setup steps u need to follow...
As opposed to what? Running SuperOneClick? Because that is all I did and it worked perfectly for my Galaxy S Captivate.
I should mention that just gives me root, but from there installing CWM was relatively easy, and there is nothing more complicated.
The Razr is a great device, but it is to me a PITA compared to the Galaxy S series in terms of Android Development.

I wish i read that before i started to mess with my phone. I used a tutorial to try to add a custom rom to my phone and read people with rogers with success but i guess i was one of those who messed up. Now my phone just turns on and stays at the motorola screen
can either of you post the backup file of your rogers ROM
Yes that would be very useful to try
where is the efs folder?
i was originally on at&t 2.3.6 firmware, after rooted it and unlock the bootloader i decided to install the "DarkSide" rom on prefinal version and it worked fine (minor bugs), but my question is that if i decide to install the latest version of alien (which i have heard the version in minor of 2.3.6), could cause me any kind of brick???
i am really new on all of this and i don't want to screw anything
Thanks in Advance.
If you've unlocked the bootloader, it shouldn't have a problem. I say shouldn't because there's always a small chance that something can happen. But to be honest, bricks usually happen when users don't follow instructions or read warnings, at least in my experience.
First rule of thumb when end user hacking or softmodding any device, be it a game system or phone, always read instructions all the way through before and during the process. This will minimize the chance of bricking.
If you're not comfortable with taking the risk, then maybe you shouldn't have unlocked the bootloader. I just hope that you realize your phone's warranty is shot, and there's no going back.
Sorry, I'm not trying to sound rude. I just want you to realize that if it bricks, you're responsible, and nobody else is. But it shouldn't brick if you follow directions carefully, and make sure you're installing the correct version, be it Bell or AT&T. Also make sure, in general for any rom, that you don't install a version with high-performance mods, like overclocking to 1.45ghz. This is not to be done lightly, as it can lead to burning up your phone, if not taken care of properly. Again, read warnings.
It is recommended to perform a backup of apps, contacts, SMS or whatever before doing anything. This can help when testing a new rom, as there may be something you end up not liking about the rom, and redoing the whole setup process can get tiring. I recommend TiBu (Titanium Backup) for apps and Super Backup for SMS, contacts, and Call logs. These are available in the market, and they work across different roms. TiBu Pro costs about $5 though, but it's the second best $5 spent on the market, next to PowerAmp. ( ) It will be invaluable to you. The free version does not support batch restore (and backup I think, batch means multiples at a time)
I wish you luck, and I hope this helps. If you skipped parts of this (I understand why, loooong), I warned you.
Take care,
Drakonas
So, if i wanted to install Alien or NottachTrix1.2.5 rom is nesesary that i need to get back to 2.3.6 at&t stock firmware???, i am currently on darkside rom, my atrix was rooted and unlocked when i was on 2.3.6 new version of at&t
I really want to test Alien or NottachTrix rom, Any help would be truly appreciated
this is a bit off but could you link me to the directions you used to unlock the BL for 2.3.6? >.<

Sorry about the late answer
I just follow this video
well, i can not post a link because i have less than 8 messages but the exact name on youtube is "How to Unlock the Bootloader for Atrix 4G Running GB 2.3.4 and 2.3.6 4.5.141"
i know that it says that is for atrix at&t 2.3.4 but it worked for my virgin atrix 2.3.6 at&t, i recomend to watch the video 3-5 times before trying, just follow step by step very carefully and when in your phone says that:
"Failed to boot, error 0x1000"
"No OS found"
i just restarted the same program but in option 3, it will automatically follow the next step
Remember, this is not a guide of any kind, just sharing my personal experience, this is what i used
Virgin Atrix 4G AT&T 2.3.6 4.5.141 firmware
Windows 7 64-bits
and the software that is on the video, please tell me how it goes for you, remember ask all your questions before doing it
Hey guys,
I know how much noob questions piss everyone off, but I'm really confused after reading the threads about FreeGee, root, JB OTA and N4 conversion. I'm probably getting an AT&T Optimus G in a few weeks, so I need to get this stuff understood. So please, bear with me.
1. Should I update to the JB OTA? That is, if the phone has never been past official LG 4.0.4?
2. What are EFS partitions? I read the thread about how to make backups of them; does this complicate making nandroid backups on the LGOG?
3. How does one use LGNPST? Do I use this instead of normal update method when updating to JB OTA?
4. Is FreeGee revesible? Or is your phone permanently unlocked after using FreeGee?
5. Are there any ROMs that are JB, but can be flashed without updating to official 4.1.2 or unlocking with FreeGee?
Thanks.
1. Should I update to the JB OTA? That is, if the phone has never been past official LG 4.0.4?
No longer have to update to JB OTA. You can just LGNPST the TeenyBin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230994
This is what I did an hour or two right after I got my LGOG lol. Day of.
2. What are EFS partitions? I read the thread about how to make backups of them; does this complicate making nandroid backups on the LGOG?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2278873
This is the main use of EFS partitions. People lose GPS from certain roms and backing up a working EFS helps. Nandroid backups are kind of like system restore points in terms of PC. You make a back up, do some new stuff and if it doesn't work, just restore the nandroid backup. Backing up the EFS is just so you don't have to back up the entire thing.
3. How does one use LGNPST? Do I use this instead of normal update method when updating to JB OTA?
Refer to the TeenyBin link I gave above. It has an LGNPST tutorial. It's similar to Odin if you've used a Samsung before.
4. Is FreeGee revesible? Or is your phone permanently unlocked after using FreeGee?
Yep. Basically the freegee app has like two buttons, Unlock and Restore lol. Unlock unlocks the bootloader, and Restore restores it. It's pretty simple, I love it.
5. Are there any ROMs that are JB, but can be flashed without updating to official 4.1.2 or unlocking with FreeGee?
You need an unlocked bootloader to flash roms so you need to be unlocked with FreeGee regardless. As far as having to deal without updating to official, you really just need to LGNPST the TeenyBin and you can flash any of the roms in the Original or Android Development forums.
Cheers.
Your order of business on your phone should be Root, Unlock, TeenyBin, flash whatever rom you feel. Constantly make backups when you know your phone is in perfect working condition before moving on to the next big step.
Just to add to the above post, teenybin unlocks boot loader and installs twrp recovery. No need to root and unlock beforehand. Also relocking a non stock ROM with FreeGee may cause security error soft brick.
Thanks for the quick replies. No offense to my other forummates from the Desire and Defy forums, but I can actually understand everything in the ATT LGOG forum because there aren't any people from Europe and Asia who have to use Google translate.
So just to clarify, I don't actually need to use Freegee, correct? Using the teenybins with LGNPST can unlock my bootloader and solve bootlooping problems, right?
I don't think I'll convert to N4 because there aren't any worthy ROMs for N4 in my opinion (purely my opinion, but there are not even any efforts to get Sense 4+ or 5 going) and CM10.1 which was originally for N4-converted LGOGs has another version for LGOG. It looks like the conversion is hard to reverse anyways...
Once again, thanks guys.
EDIT: oh yeah and one more thing. Can someone grab me a latest version of LGNPST? Apparently 1.3 is really old.
Yes exactly right. I came from Samsung (SGS2) and you know how easy stuff is there to the OG Triple OG and haven't really missed a beat. I used FreeGee myself but that's because I didn't find out about teenybin until a couple days ago.
Anyways you're good to go with what you've been told. Wham bam thank you ma'am.
I'm not sure where to get LGNPST from. Assuming a Google search would probably tell me. In all honesty there's really no need to mess with converting the LGOG to N4.
