I've done some searching and can't find an exact answer. Since flashing The Perfect Storm Latest Release: 1.3 (4/12/11) I've noticed that in the location settings there is an option for "Phone Finder"
This is my first custom ROM installation and from what I've read this used to be a feature linked to HTCsense.com but after attempting to register an account I noticed the Thunderbolt is not a listed device.
The HTC thing I for got the name but. Go to settings>sounds>phone ringtones and when your at the the list of ringtones on top of all the ringtones you should see get more. And it will tell you to sign up for HTC SENSE ACCOUNT. And if you lost or someone took your phone and if u had that check the find phone. You can find your phone on your laptop computer and you can download ringtones and more text ringtones all for free. Don't worry its HTC oh and you can download more skins also.

I should also mention that this option was not an available checkbox when I had my stock rom installed, it only appeared after flashing.
I made an account from the phone per your instructions and was able to login however it is still attempting to sync contacts?
I see I can lock the device or erase it, is there a GPS/map that appears like Seekdroid or Lookout security can do?
I also see a new HTC account under "Accounts & sync" but I can't pick what is or is not synced, still confused
I forgot what it syncs. Look around in Google

Will keep looking, thanks

Quick question about the way the Vibrant syncs with google:
Every time I add a new contact on my phone, it asks if I want to store to phone, or gmail, and every time i click phone assuming that it would automatically sync with gmail periodically.
Is this not the case!??! I installed a new rom recently and it wiped the phone, and the whole time I was thinkin "o well, it'll resync when I link my account" ... after the rom installation, i noticed that few new phone #s weren't there.
Does that mean every time I add a new number I should always save it to my google account instead of directly on the phone?
And for contacts that are stored on the phone, they appear with a green phone logo next to the contact in the list. Those linked with google appear with a black box and a white "g" inside. How do I convert those stored on my phone to link with google? Do I go "edit" --> "link contact"?
Update:
For contacts that are "google" contacts, they can't be categorized into groups on my vibrant either, because they aren't recognized. Only contacts that I've recently added into the phone are recognized. Is there some trick that I'm not aware of?
I second this question. I used a G1 previously and this new method is extremely confusing.
I currently have NO "contacts" and ONLY google contacts, which means apparently I can't set up any groups because my phone doesn't know who my contacts are!

slick, you bring up another point I wanted to ask about as well! Thanks!
I'm going to amend that into the OP
bump...?
I find it amazing that people have figured out how to turn these phones into toasters, rocketships, nuclear-war-launch-devices and other errata, but haven't figured out how to store contacts correctly...

I always make my contacts google, works good for flashing as much as I do, and also if you upgrade your phone in the future, as long as it is android it will automatically put all your contacts in their for you. If you dont want to do that, there is a paid app called mybackup pro that will backup contacts. But I do suggest that you always use google to save time in the future.
You can link contacts, but all it does is make it so it does not show up as a duplicate contact on your list, your best bet is to log into gmail, go to contacts and add them from there. then you can hit menu and filter what shows in your contact list(facebook/twitter/google). You can add them to google from the phone, but I prefer to add them from gmail or google voice, as i can type faster on my computer.

I recently reflashed a rom and I checked and found out some of my contacts were missing. I checked my gmail contacts and it's there. I checked to sync all my contacts on my phone but it doesn't show up on my phone. I didn't have a problem with my first flash with the rom. How can I resync the missing contacts back to my phone? Thanks!
Yeah...this is definitely one of the worst changes made to Android by the Samsung TouchWiz interface. I had a G1 also, and really liked not having to worry about phone/sim/google contacts. I just want contacts that are always in sync no matter where I go. This is the one thing that will push me to go AOSP once somebody releases a decent rom. As far a I know, no custom ROMs have gotten contacts to be anything other than TW.
I have tried to get this to work periodically since I got the phone in March with no success. I have followed the instructions to the letter and been onto customer services and still no joy!
Once you are logged in to SE sync on phone and go to "Account and sync settings" and then select "Account Settings" does your correct username and password appear in the box? I get a random selection of letters as my username everytime. Can someone check whether their correct details are shown?
Then if I click on "Contacts" there is another place to enter a username and password which doesnt get mentioned on any instructions I have seen! DO you have this filled in?
When I try and sync the arrows "spin" but nothing gets uploaded to teh website....any ideas?!
I used SE sync briefly, but quickly switched to google sync.. just seemed a richer product.. can't remember having any problems though..
I think the problem is that my contacts are not stored on my memory card. I have tried importing them from SIM card but it doesnt make any difference. Is there anyway of telling where your phonebook is getting the contacts from? I now believe that my phone is actually synching but it has no contacts to sync!
Any one has any ideas? I was looking at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863166 and it shows how to get high-res pictures sync to the phone without losing quality (low-res blurry pictures) for the Contacts. But it has to be done through SE Sync. Would appreciate if someone can post their direction. Tks
have some issues whit SE sync i setup the account on my phone did step bye step the setup but i keep getting cant sync,,, chech the account and on users name it change the user name,,, i dunnot understan,,, i redo the input on the user and pass info and nothing
any ideas
It's normal for the user account and password to differ between the phone and the SE website.

ok, i'm not normally one to have trouble with issues such as these, but this is my first android phone (htc evo 3d) and when i first got it on launch date, i manually entered all my contacts from my old phone to my new one. well i recently went through the root process and read that if you had your gmail account as the primary google account, that you wouldnt have to worry about your contacts anymore, after a wipe or changing to a new phone.
well after root i let the phone do all the gmail syncing after enabling it, and my contacts are still not there. i am having trouble getting into an option that will let me view or add or edit contacts from google. i go into accounts and sync, click my google account but all it will let me do is enable or disable the syncing of contacts. can someone give me a brief rundown of exactly how this works? and are my contacts all gone?
It works pretty much the way you described it; once you have the contacts in your phone you sync and they all get saved to your default gmail account. Then when/if you decide to wipe, you run sync again and they'll be uploaded to your phone.
This is what I'd do if I were you;
- Open gmail -> contacts and check if they are actually there.
- If your contacts are there, then maybe you don't have them set to shown in your phone display options under contacts.
thanks for the quick reply. when you say to open gmail, do you mean through the accounts and sync settings menu? or the gmail app? when i go through the accounts and sync, i just get the option of turning the syncing for each category (i.e. contacts, weather, news) on or off, i cant actually go into each one to see what they are comprised of. i feel pretty dumb not being able to figure this out, but i had over 100 peoples numbers and information on my contacts before i wiped and rooted my phone, so i'm willing to accept sounding like a noob in hopes of possibly getting them back.
thanks again in advance.
No problem at all No, I meant open it on your computer (http://www.google.com/contacts) and see if there are any in there.
Regarding display options; I don't know which phone you're using, but you get there by opening Contacts -> Display Options on my LG (http://www.shrani.si/f/30/1s/1KBZD0Ot/screenshot-1314442655693.png a screenshot of how it might look like if it's of any help)
I've got an HTC Desire HD that's been rooted and have tried out several ROMs, the last couple have been ICS. I would like to stay with an ICS ROM but there seems to be an issue with contacts. I sync my contacts (and calendar) with Outlook via MyPhoneExplorer, Google isn't in the running here. On GB all is fine and both contacts and calendar go into a 'phone' memory. With ICS this 'phone' memory has gone and you have to sync with your gmail account locally. With ICS the calendar is fine but if I reboot the phone (it gets switched off most nights) this causes all contacts to disappear. I usually use Contapps as my contacts app but the stock People app also shows the same behaviour. Tried all the settings I can think of, and SEARCHED the forums (and further afield) so far, but still the same.
In all cases I've set up my Google account but then turned off ALL synchronisation, as I want to keep things local to my phone and PC. The calendar works fine, it's just contacts. I've checked with my gmail account online and it does NOT have copies of my contacts or calendar so it would appear that 'not syncing' is not the issue as my phone's calendar keeps it's data intact.
Also, call history doesn't seem to get deleted either but you obviously just get the phone number in each entry, with no contact details.
Using the stock People app to check (though other contact apps show the same lack of contacts!). I've tried 3 different ICS ROMs and at least two have shown the problem (the 3rd may have done but that was the first I installed and may not have checked). I've seen other comments both on xda and the wider interweb that indicate that I'm not the first to see this but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on the solution, if any.
Can anyone shed any light on the issue? Or at least have details on how Google changed contacts operations in ICS?
Oh, I know that I "could" sync with Google, but I don't want to. I know all the arguments for and against and I'm in the "against" camp on this one so comments along the 'just sync with Google' line aren't that useful. No disrespect to those that think differently ....

OK. More information. I've noticed that the contacts database file .... /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db ... gets overwritten on the 2nd reboot. (File Manager tells me its a smaller file AND the timestamp gets updated). I've deleted ALL files in ... /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/ ... and they get re-created on a reboot but after syncing they still get overwritten on the 2nd reboot.
I've also tried to 'fix permissions' from ROM Manager but no change.
Anyone any clues as to what could be going on?
Ta.
Thought I'd sussed it. Did a factory reset, re-installed all my apps via Titanium Backup then used Rom Manager's 'fix permissions' (and rebooted obviously). Reinstalled my contacts and it took until the 3rd reboot before they disappeared again ... :crying: However, I now have a 'Me' profile I created and this does NOT get deleted. As the file is in the same directory and has the same permissions there has to be some boot process "amending" the contacts2.db file. But what the heck is it? Anyone point me to docs. that describe the supposed Android boot sequence?
Ta.
I don't know if this has been addressed somewhere and I haven't found it, but I've been searching various forums for days now looking for my answer. I have resulted to this.
It's more of an annoyance than anything, but I cannot get Facebook to link with my contacts. Facebook shows up as synced in "Accounts and Sync" in Settings, but when I open a contact and click "link" and choose Facebook, nothing shows up. Just says "No results found".
The only cause of this I can think of is remotely logging off Facebook from all devices and locations from my home computer. Even then, when I've done it before I just re-log in on my phone and everything is fine.
My current rom is ViperOne M8 4.6.0. Which is on Sense 7. Android Version 5.0.2
Any help or advise would be appreciated.
