Hi all, since i heard the new xperia arc has its multitouch and 32fps cap removed, will the gingerbread upgrade come with it too? Will it also have a different kernal to allow wifi tethering? Will we also have like 16M colours?
I hope this would all happen

I don't know about the others but I'm pretty sure we will get the fps unlock. I would be stupid for se to lock it again

who knows? Anyone giving opinion here will be providing that, simply opinion. No one has any idea what the update will provide, as the press releases were very vague. Time will tell, I suppose.

Yep! Agreed!
And if you wanna stay on top of this gingerbread release follow Rikard Skogberg over at the official SE blog. He updates with new posts often, and when more news comes about what the X10 will and will not get with the gingerbread release you'll probably get it there first.
The only 2 things id like to see are 16m colors and 32fps unlocked. Oh, and hopefully they leave the EV control on the stock camera.

that person unkownx13 usually gave us some clues, someone should maybe pm them?!

gingerbread in Q2/Q3 for X10 was planed not to impact ARC phone sale, given, clearing for X10 phone, without gingerbread, handly will ever clearing up the remining stock X10.
gingerbread already running with ARC, I do not see SE not able to deliever it, in my view, mostly, X10 gingerbread upgrade will end up same spec function with ARC. Also will never unlock bootloader to ensure, no impact to ARC sale business.
regards
James
that depends if the boot loader gets cracked / sony unlocks the bootloaders
For all I know, I love this phone but all that keeps it down us the sluggy touchscreen due to the 32FPS cap and I hate it.
The colors would be good also.
multitouch was said to be impossible due to the screens structure, but in the update I would hope also that the dualtouch isn't add pathetic as it is now.
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
wifi tethering for sure as we can do that even now with apps like barnacle
and 32 fps cap would most probably removed..
but i am doubtful about 16M colors and unlocked bootloader
I just want root access in the gingerbread update.!

The modification on the camera department makes me worry that we will loose the goodies of the camera . But only time can tell what comes in and what goes out.
Hopefully the devs come up with a 2.3 mod so we don't lose the features.

A modified GB kernal would kick ass.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
The kernel for the 2.3.2 update should be 2.6.32pref9,the very same to the present kernel in the new Xperia products....
32fpscaps removal do not have too much hope.....SE will never give them such crisis. If we get it removed, most of us will keep our phone longer....They need people to butly their 3rd gan. Android phones.
Cheers,
L

Im pretty sure sony will modify the x10 add here in Australia, and I suppose other countries, the x10 is quite popular and common, and I do not think that a lot of people have heard of the Xperia arc yet.
The contract plan area here is almost dominated by there x10 and Iphone.
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
Is there a reason why the X10 comes with the 32 fps cap? Is it for battery life?
Yes,there is a reason.
The reason is that SE think that we will buy their new product by locking our phone
Cheers,
L

I hope so!
16M colors, 32FPS cap removed and the same speed as the Arc gingerbread and I won't really mind not having rooting access for a while. That's all I want.

Hey guys I know everyone's excited about this but there's one bad side to it. This thing may be unrootable but I'm sure the geniuses here will crack it. But unfortunately the bootloader will now be even harder to crack. And most countries won't get the update so you'll have to get the global update from here which isn't a problem for me. But if we root Xperia arc we can most likely root our new x10. We need a preview so we can work on this
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
Simple answer: Gingerbread 2.3.3 on X10 is built upon the same thing as Arc... if u can root Arc, u can root X10... simple.... Richard on the SEBlog already made it very clear that they are building 2.3.3 for X10 based on what they have for Arc.... I think by then, bootloader cracking should be pretty much out of the picture cos everyone will update to gingerbread.... and then most of their mobile contracts would be up in prob a few more months and they would upgrade to a 2.4 device....
But we cannot lose root either way. I want this but they have to lift the frames per second cap limit and enable 16 million colors then root or not I'm going to it because that's all what kernels will do anyways so its awesome

I've tried rooting a preview version of the Arc using SuperOneClick but it failed so I hope the devs can get root on 2.3.x.
Video coming soon.

I believe that the current rooting methods used on the X10 do not work on Android 2.2.1 or newer firmware. In Android Source code, Google has patch the security hole that allowed for these to work.

dont worry guys.... all that we need are the kernel sources... leave the rest to Bin4ry, J and the team...
Don't worry we'll get this down. The only gingerbread rooted so far is nexus s. We need to know how they did it. Otherwise we can always use a custom rom from here

Lol yep and everyone needs to update to generic firmware. If you get generic you'll be the first to have gingerbread when it releases. That is how I got the official Sony Ericsson dual touch update.

I dont think so, as the reason SE are not giving the update is that they need to "prioritise" on other SE products.

Man i feel the same way too! Its just damn unfair. No more SE for me.
Anyway who cares about SE......devs at xda are doing a better job than them...and xda devs have already ported x10 arc firmware to x10...so basically who needs to crave for se support when owain the dude is at work.

Dude, if SE give the 2.3 update, devs might sit back and rest....as the only reason they were trying to crack the bootloader and all was to get the 2.3 modules/ kernels working on x10....now they are getting it, they dont need to do so.....though the update is coming in Q3, i hope we get to see our bootloader cracked before that...
Thanks to all the devs.
Even if se releases official update, devs would definitely continue to improve it.....and SE will definitely add a patch in 2.3 update so as to void the progress made my devs..but x10 devs do deserve a vacation in hawaii ;-)

You bet they do.
Hmm, I'm 99% sure, that dev's in our community will not abandon us. Well, from videos you can the laggy interface what Arc has...Running Froyo 2.2 on my mini, seems to be much better and fluid than GB on Arc.(Arc has also better hardware than mini does)
It might even benefit us as it might be easier to port X10 ROM to X10 mini/pro. Am I wrong?
I would think so too. Well - these phones did come in a rather turbolent time of the mobilephone market, so the fact that they drop the support isn't all that surpricing. They need to look forward like most other companies in these times - those who fall, is left behind

buddy who dont wanna move to arc..? lol..
Actually the neo will be better despite a smaller screen. It'll have a front camera and a music player with an equalizer for bass boosting (which I cant live without). Otherwise, it's the
Same phone. Though me personally ill be getting an optimus 3d because when my upgrade will be available, xda will be well equipped for it.
From my X10a running CM 6.1.3 by Wolfbreak and Swype Keyboard
this might imply that we will have an easier root method for our x10s when the 2.3.3 update comes =D

I think that is a bit harsh. OK it may not be a big step forward from the X10 but it is better and is 'only' a mid range phone.

kudos to that too. Sony Ericsson has tried hard to make a good phone. but this year dual core android phones will dominate. With that said, I will still get the Xperia Arc if i can find a good deal.(under $500) Can't complain about the SE interface. =) With that said i'm very excited for the X10 gingerbread release and unlocking the bootloader. Hopefully we can utilize the full potential of the phone.
Well I just love the looks and design of it
Personally I just want to own it!!
And specs of the arc a lil better so I think once there are more devs for the arc then the development will be more progressive than the X10
It will be in my hands in the coming month or two

My friend want to exchange his nexus one for my x10 would.you guys do it i want to do a safe trade so i was wondering is it any.good? How is the forum support here in xda? And i wanna trade it because im bored of my x10
Thanks in advance people .
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
Well, to me its kind of a latteral move as they are very similar hardware wise and both have dt issues. I'm sure the nexus one is or has been well supported but to me the x10 scene is really getting interesting with the kernals coming up. Nexus one will already have everything final. Boring to me.

As the Nexusone is basically a dev phone and has pretty much already had everything done to it, I would say keep your x10.
However if you have played your x10 out and want to play with something different, then why not?
I personally wont get rid of my x10 for sometime. New kernels coming out to modify it even more....
X10 is my friend
Thanks mates i have maked up my mind and im keeping my x10 for gingerbread 2.3.3 release by se and custom kernels is coming out soon

But this is not SE putting a fake limitation to their X10 Mini/Pro phones, Honeycomb was designed for Tablets by the Android developers themselves.
If they can do a fully working Honeycomb port, then all the power to them, but I won't hold my breath for it.
Well I would let a week or two go by..., maybe by then someone will have released sth..

I have to agree. Even if they fix the graphics, honeycomb is just gingerbread made big, with few new apps and tweaks. Don't expect that thing to fly.
Edit: now that i think about it, we would need apps to have tablet support too, and that would be catastrophic.

First I don't see the necessity of an OS made for tablets in our phones, second, honeycomb a big gingerbread ? Honeycomb is especially for tablets because it have a new interface, animations distribution, the android core is the same but campare it with gingerbread?
Finally honeycomb support both tablet optimized applications and normal ones.
Sorry for my English.
