Hello,
Since I use Transparent Proxy (superuser permission is granted), when I disable the proxy, my streak reboots itself. The funny thing is that, it does not lose it's GSM network connection, which means i don't need to put in my sim code again.
Has anyone have the same problem? Is it the Transparent Proxy or the Superuser (or maybe the rooted phone) which causes the reboot?
YD.

Hi everybody!
I was wondering: is there any possibility to set a proxy (maybe using a 3rd party application) to surf to the Internet, when I'm connected to a WiFi network?
My university uses a proxy for all the outgoing connection, so I need to set it in any terminal I want to connect to the Internet with.
I'd prefer not to enable the "root mode" on my LG Optimus One, because it would invalidate the 2 years warranty.
Have a nice weekend!

I searched on net and it seems, that it is not possible. Most problem is, that some custom ROM is needed - in this case you will most probably lose warranty.
Maybe is some way in rooting of phone and editing of appropriate files. Because rooting is reversible operation, may bee there won't be any problem.

Thank you for the reply!
Is the rooting a reversible operation?
I mean: can I install a proxy for my phone (in root mode) and then deactivate the root mode?
Can LG notice I entered the root mode and deny my warranty?
It's my first Android phone (actually, it's my first smartphone ever!) and I'm a bit confused...

Yes, it is.

Well, it's not impossible for LG to notice that you rooted (and then unrooted) your phone. But even if LG doesn't notice what you have done, it doesn't matter: rooting the phone voids the warranty... you are then free to unroot the device but the warranty remains void.
Install Any Cut (search on the web or market).
Through Any Cut create a shortcut to home of the option Proxy Setting (I think is under Action menu').
Clicking on the shortcut you can change the proxy for the standadrd browser only.
(Browsers like SkyFire have the proxy option in them preferences setting).
In any case, I have never tested this method, but should work for the browser..I do not know if it works for the app too.
In the next weeks I'll check if the AnyCut solution works for me...
Thanks everybody!

Issue 1273: IP Proxy Settings for Wifi Network
It is not possible to set up proxy setting settings for WiFi network.
1. Menu > Settings > Wireless controls > Wi-Fi settings > Menu > Advanced
Settings for all Wi-Fi networks
i managed to set proxy server using "transparent proxy". this app needs superuser rights
any other ways of doing this without rooting the phone?
My P500 is rooted. But I still dont know how to access wifi via proxy.
I tried to use 3rd party program such as Proxysetting, Transproxy, Android GappProxy, Asproxy, Orbot,... The only working program on 500 is Asproxy (download on Applanet). However, it made me crazy that the status is Running just about 2-3 minutes, and then it comes to Waiting with reason: Couldn't check license. Anyone help me solve this problem??? (this program need root and superuser rights).
Many thanks!
i see it is an old post, but if u still need some app for proxy settings (with authentication)
i recommend using PRoxyDroid
I use it over my college network and it works fine
it is a free app
just google for 'proxydroid apk' incase u want to install it from apk
u need to root ur phone to use this
NOTE: ROOTING DOES NOT VOID THE WARRANTY. THIS IS A CONFIRMED NEWS
ROM : VillainROM 3.0.0

After applying the fix for Hotspot settings to save in another thread (chown and chmod the /data/misc/wifi) I tried to turn on the hotspot, after all, this was inevitably what I got the phone for, H+ Hotspot.
Now I turn it on and the network appears in my computer, but if I try and connect to it, after I type in the security key, it comes up with "Connecting" and just stays like that permanently...
Eventually it sometimes says "Limited Access".
My phone does have internet connection, but why does it not work.
Does your network allow tethering?
Did it work on another rom?
Have you tried a hard reset?
I'm using tethering on VR but with speedmod kernel with no issues.

Orange in the UK for example use and APN on their SGS2 roms that doesn't allow tethering (you can set up a tethering connection no problem, but the network won't let you have any data).
They also lock the APN down so it isn't editable (insert rude word about Orange)!
You can get round the problem by adding another generic APN for all connections and using that.
i was having the same problem and struggled alll these days for solution. I used to get limited acesses and hence checked the ip4 & ip6 drivers connectivity for solution with no luck.
Then clicked on windows update, after update everything started working. So try to update your windows.
presently i am on turkbey ROM and it is working and also checked with sensation 1.9 and here tooo works!!!!!
Hey all, thanks for all your replies.
Network: 3
Plan: The One Plan +Tethering
Resolved: Yes.
For anyone else wondering how I fixed my problem:
1) Rebooted the phone
2) Rebooted my PC
3) Turned off the WiFi Adapter in my PC
4) Turned it Back On
5) Turned off WiFi on phone
6) Turned Hotspot on without any authentication
7) Worked on PC
8) Changed back to WPA2 PSK
9) Worked with Key.

I had wifi tethering working fine on Orange with SGS running Froyo 2.2.1, but have just upgraded my handset to SGS2 running Gingerbread 2.3.5 (stock XWKI8 firmware), and wifi tethering isn't working now.
As far as I can see I have exactly the same APN settings in my new SGS2 as in the old SGS, but maybe I need to use this new trick.
What do you mean by "adding another generic APN for all connections and using that"? If I add a new APN, what settings do I put in?
Thanks.
Hello mates,
When i try to install a wifi network in my university i need a certificate. When i install it with the network,it always wants me to setup a lockscreen with a pin or a pattern. I know this is a issue caused by the systemadmin, but is there any solution to turn this off, because it is very annoying for me.is there any app or a setting i can change?
Regards,
DaKiii

JUST PUT A PIN AND THEN USE A AUTO PIN PROGRAM LIKE THIS ONE

sry i could not reply before, i was very busy with my studies. i tried it now, it works very good when i connect to my university network, but i want the locking with pin or pattern beeing disabled also if i connect to my usual data network without wifi or if i dont use any internet connection.
is there a possible solution?
Curious if anyone else has experienced this issue? Since upgrading to android 4.3 roms, I have not been able to use my home proxy correctly. Connections to my proxy have been successful, in that, android still reports internet connection, however when using apps (that are blocked on my work wifi) are showing no connection. 4.2.2 roms all work fine.
The app I'm using is ProxyDroid however I also tried setting the proxy in native settings with the same result. Is there a change in the implementation of proxy services since 4.2 roms? Thanks in advance.
Maybe it will work with Drony or SandroProxy

Drony, is the wrong kind of proxy (server not client). SandroProxy isn't working either though (I mean in 4.3), however its very difficult to use; It's possible I screwed up setting it up (still was showing 'listening 127.0.0.1').
Drony is subset of SandroProxy so it acts the same way. You probably need just Drony.

Interesting implementation. Perhaps I will try it again. I'm curious is there a widget for quickly connecting/disconnecting from proxy's? Unfortunately running through my house its not a very fast connection (one of the biggest reasons I went with ProxyDroid, there is a quick connect/disconnect).
Drony will go on if active wifi has proxy set on localhost 8020.
It goes off if wifi goes down.
What can you miss with Drony is that not all apps will work.
For example WhatsApp do not respect androiod os proxy settings.
To have all working you need rooted phone and SandroProxy.
It install his own local copy of iptables to redirect all traffic.
But has more features and it is harder to set up as you find out .
It is more a developer tool than a plain proxy.
There is some wizard to help you out.
And acts the same way as Drony listening if active wifi has proxy set that points to it.

Can anyone help? I am in a search for Android app, that will let me setup PPTP VPN connection, without being forced to use password for the lockscreen, and without the phone being rooted (I use Nexus 4, but not in the mood to root, no need up till now). I have found only RootVPN that require root. All other apps are openVPN
I have setup up the phone now, using the options in settings, and it works now, but this lockscreen pisses me off!
