Hello,
I'm still using original WM5 ROM with the device.
but only one thing impacts me - I can not rotate the screen to landscape orienation, I need it for one application, which I use daily.
I've tried to rotate programmaticaly, but API call returns that rotation is not supported.
If someone has WM6.1 romon the device, can you tell me please:
Is screen rotation supported with WM6.1 rom?
Rgds.

How can I test it?
here is a simple sample which has to detect this ability
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms903593.aspx
I suppose there are applications which can do this, but I don't know about it

Tried it with a little tool I created using the code you send. And it is not working (At least in the ZFree version). Maybe the dragonball version supports it, but I doubt it.
thank you very much for your attempt!

That 2.5 isn't all it's cracked up to be . . . I can't live without landscape Manila on my Fuze anymore.
XOR ROM has 2.5. Still some more issues to work through ....but it will give you a quick look / feel.

Awesome. I didn't realize Landscape worked too. In that case, I want it! The Footprints tab is cool.
On/Off switch to landscape TF3D2.X
I would love to see a way to have a switch to turn on or off the landscape for TF3D2 or future versions. It takes too damn long to wait for it to rotate back to portrait when I'm in a hurry. Sometimes TF3D's landscape is awesome because it takes NO TIME to rotate back to portrait and that gives me the opportunity to get more things done, quicker. Having that switch would be the dogs balls!

Well, I think in most versions of TF3D, there's a reg key for EnableLandscape="true", meaning landscape is enabled. If this key is set to "false" - you guessed it - landscape will be disabled. If that's all you want to do, that should be easy. I don't know if 2.5 has a similar entry, but I don't see why it wouldn't. You could also just disable rotation in Manila.
But personally, using the SensorSDK4, my current Manila rotates just fine.

Big news about the latest version of the Maps app. It will have downloading of vector data instead of bitmaps so seamless smooth zooming and 100th of the file size, 3d buildings, enhanced multitouch gestures and most importantly OFFLINE MAPS!
Anyone want to guess at which features (if any) will make it to the Legend? Vector maps would be good but I am most interested in the offline maps (which prob wouldn't work without getting the vector version)
great news. vector graphics are a great tool for small and good looking apps or animations (by now only adobe seemed to notice).
they should only activate navigation world wide.
If you want to use Offline-Navigation you can try maps-brut:

I think most features except for the multitouch rotate, because it requires "distinct" or "true" multitouch which I'm sure the legend , the desire, or even the nexus one does not have. But everything else should work.

It'll manage a rotate, no problem
It should work, though I have a feeling sometimes it will rotate the wrong way. Kinda like the pinch apart pictures in the 3d gallery, or trying to play 2 player pong
That being said I hope we get this release, I sure like the sounds of vector, it will play nicely with my 500mb data plan.

Lol, all good.
I guess we'll see when it drops. HTC phones will probably screw up the rotation gesture.
Did anyone see any news on when it is released? They said in a matter of days, and that was about a week ago. I realize "days" could mean months, but usually it means less than a week.
It's already out there for download, look here:
http://pocketnow.com/android/google-maps-5-for-android-with-3d-vectoring-now-available
Just installed them ... and I must say! It works, smooth zooming and even the 3D rotation with two fingers, the compass mode! brill!!!
Mart
3d rotation doesnt work for me... even the desire is listed as only "partially supported" are u sure it works for you? however it would be nice to have at least some buttons to rotate the map
It's been pushed to the market..updating now.
Working alright, I don't get either two finger rotate or two finger to tilt. I definitely love the new rendering method..everything fades in now, much faster to load, much more fluid experience. Had one hiccup so far where it didn't render properly but it figured itself out.
Edit: Ooh! Theres some 3d buildings.
No rotate or tilt here on my Legend.
:sadpanda:
tilt works on my phone - sliding up and down with two fingers
tilt, compass works here with CM6.1 although I can't see any buildings like in the demo
And I can't get the rotation to work
Tilt doesn't work on my Legend with CM6.1. Can see 3D-buildings though, and compass mode works.
I can see the 3D models in NY / Berlin, but I also can't tilt :O
+ Whats my map won't rotate like a compass when I turn. Do i have to enable something in maps for that?

You need true multi touch for that .. legend does have that so that feature might not work ..

Is there really no-one who can tilt accept for me?
I can tilt but I can't rotate with the multitouch feature.
It's working on both CM6.1 and Blayo's WWE froyo ROM (B0.1)
Since I enjoy using the phone in portrait when laying down, I finally found an app that would work. I know there are ROMS that can set the default to portrait, but I also wanted to lock landscape as well (similar to the iphone)
Unfortunately it's $1.49 in the market, but I haven't found any free app that works (most were just widgets that turn auto-rotate on and off)
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.coinsoft.android.orientcontrol
It does work, but be aware that (at least for me with ADW Launcher) when/if one uninstalls the app, the default orientation gets locked to whatever it was last set and will not return to auto.
YMMV.
I'm using it now. It's not bad. Has some flexible configuration options. Thanks for the tip.
I've been looking for something like this. Thanks a mil
Ok just to be sure, this software locks the orientation in Portrait for any applications? Or is it just for the launcher?

That would be stealing
It would violate XDA rules.
hmmm now that true portrait mode is available, maybe there would be some new apps that would follow its method of changing orientation and would be free.
Is there any way to change the boot and/or lock screen default orientation without flashing a custom ROM?

You don't need to flash an entire ROM, there is a thread with the mod here at XDA.
The only other lockscreen option is a replacement lockscreen that allows/forces portrait.
For booting, the initial Dell logo is pretty much hard coded in, but you can use a different boot animation that is portrait. I made one with pics of my grand kids.

Even though I have root, I still need to flash a custom recovery to do this however, correct?
I just prefer the plain jane lockscreen in portrait. I tried all the paid and free options, and for me at least, they sucked.

If you want to flash any kind of .zip file for a theme or boot animations you need a custom recovery. But, you can change the boot animation without using recovery by placing the alternate boot animation in /data/local. If there is a bootanimation.zip file in this directory it over rides the stock boot animation. So you only need a file explorer with root access to do this.
I believe that you do not need a custom recovery to do the portrait lock hack, but I have not done it.
If you don't have StreakMod Recovery installed how are you backing up your phone? I use nandroid to make a backup every couple of weeks at least. You can prevent StreakMod from being over written.

I'm rooted and I'm using Titanium Backup, but I'm still on s Stock Froyo ROM. I'm taking my time and reading as much as I can before I jump into flashing on my Streak, because even though I came from the HD2 and the Vibrant (and flashed those dozens of times) I'm always a little hesitant when I'm trying a new method and I can't afford to brick, maybe more than most, because I can't get ANY decent phones here in Panama.
One provider sells the 8GB Galaxy S for $800!
Thanks for the info. I'd love to have the PIN screen default to portrait also. Does the above mentioned hack accomplish this as well?
I actually had to change my PIN because I couldn't reach "0" when I changed my screen dpi to 180, which I much prefer over the standard, since it was then blocked/obscured by the Emergency Call button.
Hi again! I've got another module for you all
This simple module makes the device "think" it's held in a certain orientation.
How does that help you?
Well, have you ever tried to read something in landscape mode while lying on your side?
I did, and I failed, because the screen rotated back.
Brilliant! But, how does this module work?
It basically disables systems' orientation sensor listeners (more battery juice side-effect?) and feeds it fake data.
Won't having the device always rotated be a pain in the arse?
No worries! Here's the best part: if you turn off auto-rotation (via quicksettings, for example), the device remains in it's original mode.
And, if you don't have quicksettings, you can make a shortcut on your homescreen from this app which does exactly that.
So, it's easily toggleable
Compatible with all Android versions from 4.0.3 'Ice Cream Sandwich' to 9.0 'Oreo'.

I'm sorry to ask, but i'm not sure to understand.
Isn't it the same to turn off screen rotation when you want it to remain in portrait, and disable when landscape is needed ?
I use this method cause i like my screen not to turn when i'm moving or lying on my side, and turn on rotation when I need to, for seeing a photo per exemple.

Is there such functionality? Neither my Xperia Z 5.1 or Nexus 6P 6.0 can do that.
No matter if my devices are in portrait or landscape when I disable auto-rotation it just goes back to portrait.

Usually when you turn off rotation lock and out your phone in landscape, you can lock it again but this time in landscape!
@gordonpn After doing some proper research I found this TechRepublic article.
It turns out it's not present on all devices out of the box and not on older Androids at all.
Tomorrow, along with app whitelisting, I'll add Gingerbread support too. I hope more people will find this module useful then.
could this force landscape mode on apps that doesn't allow it? TIA!
Can't guarantee that I'm right but I feel like the Landscape lock is only in CM13(never had it before on any older versions of Android or ROMs)? Cause I never really cared to notice it on an AOSP Based ROM(I can check it if you want) but I can clearly see the option working on the CM13 Based ROM I'm using right now...
Check the attached screenshot. BTW I'm using a OnePlus One(Bacon).

I experimented a bit, but the apps glitched and crashed a lot. I don't think that feature would be usable.

@XspeedPL
Hi!
Can you add option which would work by checking screen orientation and locking to that position when auto rotation is turned off.
Don't know if this module supposed to work so, but for me this broke auto rotation. Quick settings auto rotate -toggle became portrait/landscape -toggle which aint good for me. I can't lock screen to any position, but only make auto rotation toggle an 1/2 toggle when phone can be held 4 ways.
working great on galaxy s6 MM
Can you add option '' 0° '' ?
Great job
Tnx

Well, that's what I had in mind when I made this module.
I know that you can hold devices 4 ways, but in the end you really only need 2 in my opinion: portrait and landscape.
The "orientation sensor" thing only ever complicated things for me.
