I've tried reinstalling a number of times to no avail, and the thread in the development section doesn't seem to have anything relating to this, but every time I install Vegan-TAB Gingeredition RC1 it's missing the default browser. The tablet boots up just fine, but it's nowhere to be found, not in the dock nor in the application list. I've rebooted, connected to wireless, rebooted again, still nothing. An attempt at a manual install from /system/app/Browser.apk gives me a parsing failure, but I'm not sure if that's supposed to work anyway.
I've also tried re-downloading the zip and the MD5 sums seem to match.
My install method was pretty standard : nvflash to a version with CW, reboot, install 3588 (clear everything), reboot, reinstall CW, reboot, install vegan, clear cache/data/dalvik, reboot.
On top of this, any attempt at opening VeganTAB Settings inside settings immediately crashes.
I feel like it's probably something small and stupid that I'm doing wrong, since everyone else seems to have it working. Any thoughts?
Do you mean the market or a web browser?
If its the market then you need to install gapps
Have you tried using Calkulin's format all? It's attached to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985705
Just flash like any update.zip and it will erase everything. Be prepared to have everything erased ...
You could also try repartitioning the SDCard, which will also make sure everything is completely gone ...

The web browser. The market shows up when I connect to a wireless network. I believe gapps is already installed in this ROM.

Hadn't seen that before, I'll give it a whirl when I get home. I keep backup copies on an SD card so I'm fine with blowing everything away. I've repartitioned via CW as well and that didn't seem to help.
I'll see if this fixes it. Thanks!
That seemed to do the trick. I ran the FORMAT ALL script, repartitioned, and even did a manual format of /sdcard. After going from the stock image to 3588, the install of Vegan seemed to work great. Couldn't be happier.
Thanks for the help!

Hi everyone,
First time poster but have been reading and browsing for a couple month now and have been able to find fixes for all the issues on my own. I have however had this one issue from the beginning and have not found any fixes or even the issue being mentioned (been using TnTLite the entire time, going up the versions from early 3's to now 4.4).
When my Gtab goes to sleep or even sits idle for a while my WiFi just stops working. The connection is still there and Gtab thinks it's connected but I can't access the net until I turn Wifi off and on and then it works until I let it sit or the screen shuts off. This is annoying at the least and I would love to fix it, even if I have to go to a different ROM (but I do like TnTLite above others).
Does anyone find version 4.4 more laggy than 4.2.5? Gtab is just not as responsive and I seem to have a Flash issue where net videos crash after working for 1-15min.
Also I have CWM 0.8 and when I try to flash with a MicroSD I keep going back into CWM. I changed SDCARD to SDCARD2 in the common file but still my card is not being read. Basically if I want to install the stock ROM and nothing else I can't cause it only boots into CWM and not the SD card. I do have the card formated in FAT32 at 2048. Am I missing something, do I need to uninstall CMW first somehow?
If you re-read the first post in the TnT Lite 4.4 thread, you'll see that you can toggle the CWM back to stock recovery with some built in commands.
Yeah, I saw that as one of the options but I want to be able to patch via the micro SD card and CWM seems to be interfering with that. I mean if I revert to stock with CWM I will still have CWM installed. I want the true original state but more than that I want the MicroSD card recovery to work.
Switching to stock recovery removes CWM and will allow you to use the MicroSD to install. All you have to do is put a file named "command" in the recovery folder on your MicroSD card with the following contents:
--update_package=SDCARD2:/update.zip
When you reboot into recovery it will find that command and execute the update.zip on your MicroSD card.
Thank you!
It was my suspicion that CWM is interfering but I also had recovered from the SD card a couple times even with CWM installed, at least I think so, but it is good to know. I'm also still having issues with net video crashing now and again. The screen goes white and I have to reboot. Started when I installed 4.4 and now that I reverted back to 4.2.5 it is much better but still I had it happen just now and it never did before 4.4. The upgrade to 4.4 also slowed the tablet down which did improve as I went back to 4.2.5.
Try going into CWM and wipe dalvik cache and also do fix permissions, usually cures most of those problems after going from one version to another.
What exactly am I loosing when I wipe delvik cache, do you know? And thanks for the suggestion, haven't tried that yet.

Hi guys,
I just got a Woot replacement for my old Gtab and noticed a new version of Vegan tab was out. I followed the install instructions but when I reboot, it wont get past the Viewsonic screen. The older version is working fine (installed it just now).
I'm concerned that it is my build version causing it to (soft brick?). How do I check the build version? Thanks!
Or if it's not a build issue, anyone know a fix?
Did you clear data and cache? Also what version of cwm are you using?

Installed using CWM .8 (or whatever is in the FAQ guide), then cleared data/cache and that other thing recommended to clear on the vegan tab download site.
So I partitioned -> installed -> cleared everything -> rebooted. Hung for 30+ minutes

nvFlash back to stock. There are some tablets with partition tables swapped. Doesn't seem to hurt Froyo ROMS, but it hangs all of the GB Roms.
nvFlash will fix the tables (partitioning SD card won't).

I will second this post. I had the same issue of no boot and being stuck at the birds screen. I almost gave up on flashing to vegan ginger. I nvflashed, then installed vegan ginger rc1 and the tablet booted right up.

If you refer to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
Roebeet posted this link in the development forum. It gives you the procedure for nvflash. You have to download a few items for nvflash and a usb driver. All of the links are in his document and it tells you exactly what you need to download. When you download the nvflash files make sure you dump all of the files into a central folder like the document says. I was unable to nvflash keeping the folders seperate. So all of the files from each folder that you download should go into one central folder so that the nvflash process can access all of the files. So for example, you have to download nvflash_windows_20100500.zip and nvflash_gtablet_2010110500.zip. I downloaded those and then transferred the internal files of those zips into one folder I created called Nvflash. Also, the usb driver worked for me. Some people were saying that it wasn't working on their windows 7 64 bit machines but I had no problem with it.
I figured out how to use nvflash by trial and error from reading the document in the link provided above. Hopefully this helps you out. Once you do it the first time, it's a piece of cake. Just follow the document and you'll be fine.
PS: make sure you follow the "windows" directions or the "linux" directions. There are different files depending on your computer OS and different procedures but they are pretty clearly outline in his link. Good luck.
Thanks. I tried the instructions on WIndows 7 32 bit (from Clockwork mod, not the "black screen"). I got the driver installed fine but when I ran the .bat it says USB device not found. Any idea?
Got it working! Long story short, I was pressing Power+Volume+ instead of Volume-.
Also, for anyone who does this in the future, when you try to run the .bat file, if it doesn't go, try re-powering the gtab with power+volume- again.
I am Currently running VEGantab ginger and wanted to try a different rom
I get the following error when I try to install VEGan 5, or Caulkin... I followed the directions in the sticky
I wipe data/factory reset, clear cache and delvik, then I go to choose the zip from the sdcard and I get this message:
Finding Update Package
Opening update package
E:Can’t open /sdcard/roms/gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.1.user.final.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I can still install VEGanTab Ginger from the same directory and Vanilla, so I don’t know what the issue is.
Any fixes?
bad download or copy to your tablet.
Delete and re-download gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.1.user.final.zip

I have tried that several times. I have also donloaded from the XDA forum, and from VEGAn's site.
Rename it to something like Vegan.zip, put it in a different directory or something to see why you are having issues. It could be too many characters, or something simple like that.
when you browse to chose it to install, it errors then?

I tried renaming it, but it still didn't work. Thanks though. Maybe re-partitioning?
I don't see how that would help installing.
Something is going on with the install since it's aborting at install.
You said you can install other ROM's without issue...just this one, right?

Calkulins and Vegan 5. I was hoping to go back to a 2.2 Rom so video acceleration will work. I also tried doing it from ROM installer, but still not working.

Actually this seemed to fix it:
Reboot device, go back into CWM
Clear data/cache/dalvik, etc. (maybe a few times?)
Install from zip
Worked this time!

Ok. Thanks. I'll try it tomorrow. Just curious, did you wipe and then wipe again, or reboot recovery after your initial wipe and wipe again. Just curious your order of operations.
Help

I am getting this also, any way to confirm this works?
I just went to 1.2 and followed the steps, but get this if I attempt to do it by update.zip or the install zip way.
Hi I just sold my vibrant. Before selling it I flashed to stock from CM7 and back to Bionix.
Since I moved to stock I'm unable to install apps via the market.
We keep getting an error even before starting the download that there's not enough space to install this item.
It's unrelated to the account (We tried my account, her account and a third party)
I reflashed stock 3 times (twice via the Vibrant toolbox, and another time using ODIN downloaded directly from one of the guides), checked the md5sums.
I managed finally to get clockworkmod/rom manager on the device by discovering that installation via the web (market.android.com) works.
Installed bionix. still the same error, formatted all data, removed sd-card, repartitioned the sd, factory erase and more... Nada. I'm at loss.
(Well I didn't try reinstalling bionix. Maybe I'll try that)
The error stays the same all through the different roms, the formatting.
HELP.
EDIT: I managed to figure out what I did wrong. Writing here in case anybody else bumps into the same issue.
While using the phone under CM I repartitioned sometime earlier the application partition to 4GB. For some reason CM7 is able to handle such large partitions. (I suppose it has to do with the filesystem they use).
When moving back to stock, the internal SD is NOT repartitioned, and stock is unable to report correctly the size of the partition to the market app, thereby preventing it from even trying to install. When you install from the web, the market app does not check for space before trying to download.
So I solved it by moving back to CM7, repartitioning to 2GB which is supported by stock and older ROM's (Bionix in my case), and then going back to stock, and back to Bionix.
Now it works perfectly.
Hope I helped someone at some point in the future.
Hi all,
I didn't find any relevant threads through searches, so I'm reduced to asking for help. Please!
My DNA's been running great on Newt's ROM. I'm S-OFF, rooted, using CM, and all's been great. I'm on T-Mo. I installed the most recent patch on the OP page and, now, my phone won't connect to wifi and in settings>storage it shows "unavailable" for storage.
I've wiped cache and dalvik, done a factory reset, and everything I can think of to get things right - but to no avail so far. When connected to my PC, the phone shows up fine and I can see and delete phone files. But, I cannot copy to the phone so I can't put the ROM zip there to start anew. And, since wifi is in a perpetual "turning on" (but never does) I cannot download directly to the phone.
My phone works fine for calls and texts and data, but I can't install apps or get wifi working.
So, gang, any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks much,
Ross
EDIT to add more detail: I just realized that I cannot even access storage through CM recovery. I may be totally hosed, right? I tried to use the install zip and restore functions in CM, but it reports no files found. And if I go to Gallery, for example, on the phone it says "install SD card". I clearly have some serious memory issue (on my phone too...). Help?
You try flashing back to the original ROM before the patch?

No, I was already running Newt's NOS ROM and I just flashed the patch/update zip for GSM. I didn't do anything else.

Ok, what you're probably going to want to try to do is get rid of CWM Recovery - it has proven short sighted in comparison to TWRP. Do the following;
1. Flash TWRP for the DNA (via GooManager or grab the flashable zip and flash via fastboot)
2. Wipe EVERYTHING - Davik, Cache, Data, System.
3. TWRP Main > Advanced > Sideload
4. Use the 'sideload' command via ADB to flash whichever ROM that you'd like to be running.
5. Reboot System (If it tells you no OS installed, click install from the main and install sideload.zip, normally sideloading the ROM will install aswell, but not always.)
With this method, you start with fresh radios, fresh kernels and a fresh storage.
Hopefully this helps get you back where you'd like to be. I had to do this when I switched from NEWT's NOS 4.3 GPE back to NEWT's NOS MY S5 ROM.
Mushroomhead, thanks. I'm up and alive again!
EDIT to add detail, in case someone else encounters this:
I've not ever used sideload before, but I now understand why it exists. I followed the guidance above, with the exception of changing from CWM to TWRP. I may, indeed, do that and give it a try. But I was unable to download any app - or, for that matter, take any photos or access the Play store or do anything which accessed memory. I couldn't even access my backup files. So, I forged ahead with ClockWorkMod Recovery, using sideload to install the original Newt NOS ROM I had. That worked great.

Glad to hear it! I've been in the modding game since the G1 was released. I know a bit or two about tons of phones. HTC & RUU. Samsung and ODIN. LG and BLEH (don't ever by an LG device). Glad that it worked out for you man, keep on keeping on.
