Hi, is there a way to change the symbols the the symbols key? For example,
With the hardware keyboard open, I press alt + space. Symbols pop up.
I want to change those symbols to have things the hardware key doesn't support, like underscores.
I know I can edit the hard keys and give them alt keys, but it doesn't work if I use another keyboard app that isnt defualt input.
Any help would be great!

+1 to that somebody knows?
There are underscores in the Standard Input symbol list... it's the first symbol on the second row, on mine (US English keyboard layout).
I think you can modify the symbols, though. The APK to hack is SuquashiInputMethod.apk. There's a thread on it in the development forum. As I wrote in post #63 on that thread, the symbols key list appears to be in res\lol.xml - editing that should change the list. I haven't tested that though.

Im sorry but on squashiInputMethod.apk from froyo, don't exist res/lol.xml, and all the lol.xml on the full folder, are encrypted
the underscore isn't on the symbol list if you using another keyboard app.

thats what i think cuz we're talking about froyo
Don't use another keyboard app, then
Go ask your ROM author to arrange it for you.
why must everyone assume everyone is using custom roms?
I don't have a rom author and I don't use custom roms.
I know custom roms is awesome and everything, but IMO, they're not stable and they're still missing some functions.
What happened to support for the stock roms? It's like some of the mods here don't even mention it's for custom roms, and when i install them for my phone it ruins it. luckily I have xrecovery backup.
Maybe I should've mentioned I used stock rom.
anyway, I don't use stock input because I need auto correction. The stock input doesn't have that.
So I guess it's impossible to change with stock rom?
The symbol list is part of the input application. Go install another input application that supports it, that's all you can do. Doesn't matter what ROM you have.
I know the symbol list is part of the app. but the thing is, not matter what input app i install, the symbol list is always the same set of 12 symbols and the gui looks just like the sony one. I'm wondering where I can edit those 12 symbols. Not sure if it's the same for custom rom users.
You need to change the input method to the new installed input app. If you're still seeing the Sony Ericsson input symbol list, then the other input app isn't running.
(btw: I see many more than 12 symbols on my Sony Ericsson symbol list, what are you using?)

Okay, I'm fairly new around here, I haven't really posted anything, but i've been checking up on stuff for my phone and everything, I just have one question. I have the rom Nonsensikal. How can I get the keyboard from KaosFroyo V36 onto my Nonsensikal rom?
I know there is a few threads, but I would like to hear it again on this one, I would also like to change the keyboard. I know your supposed to download the keyboard you want, and on most 2.1 roms you have to change the keyboard apk to lLatinIME.apk i believe
Yeah, I'm just not sure how to go about downloading the one I want? Or, even putting it on my rom?
it really depends on what keyboard...if your are just adding one like swype or any other keyboard from the market you just install it like any other app and then go in settings/keyboard and check the box to enable it. Then long press on a text input area such as an email or any where you would type and it will bring up an option for input method where you can choose the keyboard you want to use. If you want to use the droidx keyboard or another "hacked keyboard" then there should be instructions in the thread where you get it for installing it.

Okay, Maybe you can help me out here then. Which keyboard is used in KaosFoyo V36? because that's the keyboard I want. and when I looked at the droidX keyboard. all it says is push it to "location" but how do I do that?

about 4 posts down, there is a flashable .zip you can use rom manager to flash. Once your phone boots back up, long press in the box you type, and select multi-touch for the imput method.
droidx-signed.zip i beleive is the name of the file.
Further along in the post is a grey type version, though i have not been able to get that one to work, aborts install and FC's on my constantly.. so I am just sticking with the white one.

Didn't work for me... I just wish this kinda stuff was easy to do.
Hi,
First, again, sorry for posting it here. Still don't have permission to post on development forums (need 10 posts to do that).
I was looking for an English Keyboard Layout for CM but I couldn't find one on the thread. So, I downloaded the German (the one without specific german letters mapped to blue/sym keys) and started hacking on it a little..
Well, I could swap Y and Z keys, but then I had to press blue+Z to enter number 3. I tried changing another things too without any success.
Is there anyone who can help me accomplish this things:
- Important things:
1- Fully swap Y and Z letters, letting me enter number 3 pressing Z.
2- My comma ',' key prints an apostrophe. I wanted to make it print comma.
- Not so important:
3- Make blue+C who actually has an apostrophe on it prints an apostrophe (that's not so important because I'm brazilian. We don't use apostrophes to much in here =P. And it's my girlfriend's phone, she is 99% of the time typing portuguese =P)
What can help, maybe, someone who provides a layout there, can point me where to find the original keychars.kcm. The update.zip comes with this file in a binary format, making it difficult to change =/
I have the same problem with keyboard, but I can use with this problem.

[Q] (Swype) Editing Smily's list, "Del" button and words with non-standard characters
Hi.
My adventure into vast word of Android goes further. Now I'm looking for some info about wide possibility of edition swype tool, and if it's possible to begin with. To be more precise, I'm searching for information on these 3 things:
1. Is it possible to edit(adding/deleting/changing order) the list of smilys in the swype keyboard? When I hold longer the "@" character, I get the list of buildin smilys that are built with 3 characters like "", "" etc. Is there any possibility to customize that list? From all of these I almost only use 2-3 smilys, and also I would like to add couples that are not there like ":]".
2. "Delete" button. It is not some major issue for me, but it would be nice to have it during writing(mostly editing). Is there any option to get that button, maybe through some custom mod of Swype etc?
3. Adding to the dictionary ANY words that include non-standard characters. For example, if I'd like to add a word [email protected]. I can't add this word currently, cause the counting of words stops on character "-", until I start writing "wp", so normal letters again. Is there any way to modify it, so that swype will accept any words that even include non-standard characters?

I have a new sensation xe (GB I think but may by ICS) on the way and one of the things I want to do is change the typing keyboard font, independent of the font typed, Change both keyboard font and typed font, ideally on the fly, using external fonts, like dingbats so that they display on other receiving machines or not, be cool but not necessary for what I need.
So effectively I could hit ding bat keys on the keyboard which types out times new roman text or something.
The purpose of this is so that I can better learn to touch type essentially with dingbat fonts, but more accurately enable to input science and math symbols fonts. once I learn where the symbols are through seeing them constantly, I can change over and put the English screen keyboard back to normal and insert the science symbols by changing font on the fly.
I think this is either an issue of the screen keyboard using a bitmap to access image location of font map, or fonts locked and hidden somewhere in the keyboard apps.
In which case I need to access these fonts, install new ones to the phone and be able to change them over.
There is a good chance the font changer app can partially do this, but probably not very well for my intended purpose.
There are also symbol based typing apps but only allow use of very limited capability and not the symbols I need.
There are similar threads to this several times over but as of yet so far as I could see no resolution to my problem.
Please help me resolve this once and for all
Hi,
My phone is Xperia Mini Pro. A few days ago I switched to CM9, the difference is huge, everything comes faster, smoother generally better, because anyone who is considering the change I suggest to move as soon as possible!
But this is not what this post was to be in CM9 default standard keyboard with Android. The most I miss T9 keyboard layout, a notice on the status bar (or typed text 'will be introduced from a large or a small letter', and that the normal characters or special characters [the blue button on the keyboard physical]) or it can be simply zbackupować with stockowego ROM CM'a and move on? If not, it is certainly a different way.
I also tried to copy the stockowego textinput-tng.apk to /system/app and chmod 644 it, but does not work, also tried to copy the files from the stock rom on CM9:

screenshu.com/static/uploads/temporary/md/je/ha/3lip2h.jpg
screenshu.com/static/uploads/temporary/qh/hk/6t/pt2pp9.jpg
unfortunately to no avail, I know that this subject was already discussed in this forum, on the other also but did not find any specific solutions.
Can I have someone that has adapted keyboard from stock rom for CyanogenMod 9? Thanks in advance for your help, besides, I think not only me that is useful.

The same for me with Mini Pro.. Also, I cannot find a way to have word completion enabled with the physical keyboard, so I always have to type the whole words. Also accented letters are a lot faster to type if the word completion is available, as long-pressing a letter sometimes does not work. Finally, also the "world" key (which I often use in the original rom to change input language) is not working with the normal Xperia S keyboard I found in another thread. Naturally, that is beacuse the Xperia S has no physical keyboard =)
I am planning to follow your path of copying some files from the original rom, but I don't think it will be so simple =(
Has anyone found a solution?
Unfortunately I have not found it. In this forum, and the other is a lot of posts on this issue but no solution. ;/
I have found this thread on a new rom based on the stock ICS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852916
At the second post, the author links to a "mini pro stock keyboard": we could try that and see how it goes!
I will try this week end and post the results =)

The sym key you can not have working if you are on a cyanogen mod rom. It just does not work, its not apart of the textinput app. The other two, why do you need them? That works good doesn't it?
what about SWYPING?
Problems with SK17i physical keyboard on CM9
Hi, I update this thread because i have the same problem.
Is there a way to have the stock xperia mini pro keyboard working on FXP138 CM9??
Now I'm using xperia S keyboard, but it doesn't have the symbol on the status bar and you can not tell if you are in normal or special characters.
I've tried to flash stock xperia mini pro keyboard, but it doesn't work and spoil the gsm!
Help please!
Otherwise, is there a keyboard on the market that is 100% working with physical keyboard of xperia mini pro?
Thanks in advance

no way personally I use swiftkey3, it gives you autocorrection for phys keyboard, but still no statusbar icon and the globe icon had same function of shift (you must choose qwerty usa, with qwerty ita you'll get incorrect layout)
(on my sk17i sym key give work fine on both standard and swiftkey)
sorry for poor english

any news?
I'm also looking for the stock keyboard.
xperia pro (sk16i) with cm 9.
currently use smart keyboard. Work quite well. But if i use hardware keyboard sometime the key indicator (shift or FN) doesnt work with every apps (eg. messaging)
I also tried "Xperia S keyboard.zip" from some post before, with out any effect.
I think there is no way to get working keyboard app for the physical keyboard on CM9 and CM10. Sooo saaaaad
I think...
This might be it (although minimal chance of autocorrect for HW-keyboard really working)...
Stock Xperia S keyboard port for CM9
I am backing up my phone as we speak, getting ready to flash CM9 and this keyboard... If it works I will report back (I'll report back regardless, but gimme a day for testing).
[EDIT]
Works, but now I realize this is as reported in many other places; SYM-key IS working but the menu it brings up is different, T9 for portrait-layout works, blue alt-key and CAPS indicator not working as well as no auto correction. Still better than after initial install but not good enough...
