Hi all,
I have a mini pro (rooted + xrecovery + apps2sd) and got a problem the last few weeks.
While playing some games the phone after a while freezes for about 10 sec. and then reboots.
At first I thought it might be a problem with the stock 2gb sd card that came with the phone in combination with link2sd that I was using at that time so I decided to buy a new Toshiba 4gb class 4 sd card and use the xrecovery + apps2sd script.
The whole procedure went fine but the problem is still there.
To be more specific I am having this problem as I've noticed in some specific games
- "Drop" is freezing every time after two - three games
- "Abduction 2" will freeze less frequently, so I might be able to play for a long period without any freeze or maybe not.
But I have encountered random freezes in other games too even while I am in the main menu not even playing but this happens really rare.
So is it a sd card problem or something with apps2sd?
Maybe firmware? I am at the latest one (.06) and have to admit that previous versions were much better (less lag etc.)
In other words has anyone encountered the same issue?
Yeah, I have the same problem but it rarely happens. I'm in the latest firmware too, .6

i've had a similar problem while playing air traffic control, sometimes it freezes and closes app after game start and sometimes it freezes after a few minutes of gameplay.
also, when playing hex defense, the games freezes and closes when using the most right cannon (the one that costs $50 in the game and launches energy waves around it), if I don't use this weapon, the game goes on and on normally.
btw, my phone does not reebot after the game crashes, it goes back to "desktop" screen.
So we are three people already with about the same issue...
Anyone with a possible solution?
Same thing happens to me !
but mine isn't rooted so it could be something from stupid SE
the same thing happens on my mini pro
for example, jewels, fruit ninja,4 teh birds and etc.
can jit in 2.2 solve this problem?

I was almost sure that it was something wrong with the latest firmware (.06) as I thought that everyone posted here had it installed but now you really confused me...
I never had any problems with my first 2.1 firmware (.504) with any games but when I installed the latest, I did the whole app2sd thing too and maybe that is the problem.
Probably some games have issues when running from the sd card...
On the other hand "Nayef.Muhiar" said he has the same problem but he is no rooted so no app2sd for him then... So what then???
I am pretty sure it's the defect of the firmware (.06) fr SE.
Phone restarts automatically while playing AngryBird, even I started the game and just put aside. Already flash 3 times still having the same prob. Non-rooted & rooted still the same. Anyway to make a complain?

this problem happened since the upgrade of 2.1
when i was using 1.6, the games (jewels, fruit ninja...)worked perfectly
ps: it should not be the problem of app2sd
i tried to install the game in phone memory but it's just the same
The same problem here on a mini with .504 firmware, it happens when i'm playing game dev story, it freezes but what i do is to lock the phone and then unlock it and the game runs normal again.
My phone: rooted, link2sd, setcpu on demand
Thanks for the posts guys you are really helpful with your info.
Till now seems a problem that:
-Happens in all firmwares
-rooted or not
-app2sd/link2sd or not
-in different games to almost everyone...
For example I don't have any issues with Angry birds like "rickyccp" has etc...
Had freezes with prism3d ans mystique : ch2
Unrooted phone, un flashed phone, .6 update.
Using the default launcher.
Never had this problem with 3d games

Yes it happens randomly, now i don't have any problem with the games, this problem is in minicm too?
i dont know
Update:
So I did some testing and reflashed .06 firmware and just rooted + app2sd but the freezes and reboot still happening.
Afterwards I reflashed again and just rooted without app2sd (games in internal) but still the same...
So I am pretty much sure now that .06 fw is the guilty here.
As I've mentioned in .504 a problem like that never occured.
BTW is there a way to switch back to .504?
Latest update:
Problem still there with floyo.
Can someone please tell me if there is a way to go back to .504 older SE firmware?

you may search for the official .504 rom and flash it by Xrecovery
but i am not sure whether such a rom is available in the internet

Hey guys,
I didn't know where to post this, so here it goes.
I'm having some trouble. I'm running CM nightly #115. I flashed the Google Apps package from here (the one for CyanogenMod 7). Now sometimes when I'm in the Android Market app, not only does it FC, but it freezes my phone so I have to reboot it.
Scrolling through the app details is what causes the freezes
I've tried CM 7.1 stable, several nightlies and MIUI, but it keeps happening!
I also tried cleaning cache, data and uninstalling updates, for the Market app. Nothing works!
Can you please help me?

Yes, tried that. Didn't work.
thought it was only me and that my phone was a lemon but i simply left all cm an miui aside after about a year of loyalty and went back to an asop rom (crysis 2.0) and it really not that bad going back.. i mean its not miui as far as customization and smoothness but its mad stable with absolutely no issues at all and i cant see myself going back to having "a perfect rom except ..... "..
Happens to me the same. I'm using NDT MIUI v10 and from what i noticed it happens only when i'm charging it from the USB port and at the same time browsing the market (just market).
Browsing the market without charging presents no issues. From what i've read around it has something to do with static electricity (might be wrong though) because i am not using the stock usb cable, but a Nokia one.
I've tested with various kernels, nothing seems to fix it. So far i got used not to use the market while the phone is plugged in.
If anyone has any explanation or even better, a fix, i'm interested in it.

Same problem here. Phone totally freezes when downloading and installing something from market while is plugged in. I have original usb cable and charger. It happens either when plugged to the laptop or to the wall charger.
Now running miui 1.2.16. previously I was running GalnetMIUI and with the last update this issue started going on randomly using market app. never happened before with cm7. I didn't try wiping data cuz I'm waiting to do so for the ics miui v4.
The weird thing is that it doesn't matter if the phone is charging or not.
Scrolling through the app details is what causes the freezes (this screen).
This must be a flaw with the Market app
I made a thread here:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/39058-market-freezes-phone/
It looks like I'm not the only one experiencing this.
same here..on cm7..
no problem with old market..it looks like market 3.4.4 not liking cm7 based roms
back to stock rom for now..
The same problem here.flashed many kernel to get fix, and relashing rom, even up and downgrade miui, changing themes, but nothing help. I'll freeze on market when scrolling down.

I also tried 3.1.2.
It didn't happen immediately, but after I scrolled in app details in several apps, it finally happened. The bug is there, but not as effective.
Flash another older version.. till bugs gone. I also flashed another kernel.. i dont know if flashing another kernel would help, but it work for me, the bugs bunny is in the market waiting to freeze me when im on siyah 2.6, i flashed fluxi kernel, still the same, then flashed excell69 kernel.. seems like the bugs bunny has return back to disneyland. Im happy now.
But this is just for temporary, coz today there will be another version of miui will release, to flash new rom and hope this bunny will not appear again.
Ill post it here for you if anything happen.

Couldn't you identify and explain the bug so the Google Apps package can be fixed?
Looks great so far. The Home launcher is much more responsive so I can do away with ADW EX for now.
Kind of wish there were more small apps, but browser, calculator and IR remote are great choices for those and they work terrifically.
What do you guys think so far?

Uninstall from settings and go in as market... That fixed it for me...
The tablet was initially very laggy after the update but a reboot seemed to fix things, with the exception of the notification menu. It stutters very noticeably and is extremely annoying. Many apps also don't rotate properly anymore.
Still better than Honeycomb despiute those drawbacks.

DAMN YOU SONY!!!
Things i hate:
- this annoying wifi keepalive issue is still there!!! there is no way to keep wifi active during standby -.- damned why don't they let us users the choice... there IS an option to set the standby behavior but its still completely useless....
- sometimes there are widget issues (doesn't matter if 3rd party or preinstalled) that widgets change into editor mode when just pressing a button like update... changing screen ang going back will fix this temporarily... had this 2 times now...
- auto brigtness issue still not resolved... in low light the screen is MUCH too dark and when changing from full brightess to automatic it keeps full for a while and then goes down to min
- homescreen lag is still too much in portrait
- forced portrait is still not changable (damn i'm righthanded and want to hold it on the ROUND side when portrait is forced!!!!)
- the new ICS launcher... Sonys previous own launcher had a better overview with the sorting possibilities but ok we can have folders now...
- still no thumb keyboard -.-
things i like:
- media from SD card is now directly available and nut just for transfer... finally i have enough memory also without root and mounting stuff ^^
- the new mini-apps are nice but there is still much potential for more apps
- the new version of "Favorites" App is very nice animated and faster
- ICS possibility to deactivate system apps that are not removable... finally i get this google music player away
- a few other ICS related things...
ALL IN ALL this update is a big disappointement... they updated to ICS, integrated one or thwo new features and that's it??? all the big issues are still there since more than six months!!!!!
I have personally had a fantastic experience with the ICS update. Everything seems faster across the board. Menus more responsive, faster browser, better keyboard response/feedback. I also like the ICS look and feel and the mini apps. Really happy with the update so far.
I used to be able to DL directly to my SD Card, and using ES File Manager to move files around. Now it refuses to do so. Anyone else having this issue? If not, what file manager are you using?
My tablet seems to have gone really slow after the ICS update.
I tried a factory restore to ensure that I didnt have too many things installed and decided to start afresh. Didnt help. The tablet is still very slow. While the touch is responsive and I like the features of ICS like slide to dismiss, reading files directly from SD card etc, I definitely donot like the amount of lag I am noticing.
All my apps seem to be really really slow.
My Honeycomb seemed to be far more faster irrespective of all the issues that it had.
Any suggestions anyone?? I am on non rooted US version 16Gb Wifi.

i havent played around much since the update but the little time i did spend with my tab i found it more responsive and smoother.... i am liking the ics update... dont know why others having issues but i think we should give it a couple of days so that all issues are ironed out....

The problem with that app from the market is that it keeps the device awake when you turn off the screen, and it eats through the battery.
On the Android phones I've used (Legend, Desire, Arc S), the WiFi remained connected, but the phone also went to sleep, battery drain was minimal.
This is the behaviour we were expecting to see in the ICS update, but unfortunately it hasn't been fixed...
Hey, i have a 3g tablet, because that i have to wait for upgrading.
But i have an important question for hifi guys: What is with the IR-Remote app...
Are there any changes to the App on Honeycomb?
I bought the tablet for controlling my homecinema an know i want to know if we get makros in the IR-Remote app?
pls check it and give a response to me
Wondering if anyone else has encountered massive lagging, outright freezing, and even complete rebooting, when using one of the more recent roms/kernels with JIT enabled?
Wanting to use the latest and greatest roms, I've been all but frustrated by the above behaviour.
"This never used to happen!!" ... "Why is Google Navigator forcing my phone to reboot!?" ... "Why is the CPU being pegged at 100% just by unlocking the screen!?!?"... and so on and so forth, you get the idea.
Despairing after the same behavior with yet another rom/kernel combo, I just happened to glance and see a "Disable JIT" option and - being a linux/systems guy and knowing what a JIT does - thought "what the heck let's try this", and promptly disabled the JIT and rebooted.
Picture a scene where the dark clouds opened up revealing sun rays and angelic music, as my phone suddenly started behaving as it should!
So. Anyone else with an SO-01B and experiencing similar? Try disabling the JIT, and please let me know how you got on.

Ohhh, what ROM are you using? In 2.3.3 you dont need JIT, because it is already enabled Even if you try to install it on 2.3.3 system will not boot or boot with extreme lags.

Oh yes, I know - I'm not installing JIT manually - it's on by default in the rom I currently testing, which is;
Rom : FeraLab v20 Final
Kernel : 2.6.29-FeraKernel-v2.7
Android version : 2.3.9
Baseband : 2.1.71
So, like I mentioned earlier, I disabled JIT on that setup.
Whilst it gets rid of the lags and freezes in general, unfortunately, Google Navigator still caused reboots of the SO-01B. It's a real show-stopper for me.
I'm about to wipe and install with a different rom. I'll report back my findings.
Regards.
Remember that you need to clean dalvik cache when you change anything about JIT. Eventually cache partition format and full wipe.
But, disabling JIT is complete nonsense. It has been developed to run apps faster and more natively. Thats why every android before 2.2 was laggy and there were tons of methods how to enable JIT on older systems. And thats why it is enabled by default on 2.3´and later systems.
So if you have some lags, they are surely NOT caused by JIT. Try to clean your system, dalvik cache and make full wipe. Remember also few minutes to settle every ROM is needed.

I know you're giving good advice here, and I know I've only posted in the forums 4 times (5 now), but please believe me, I'm no noob.
I know exactly what the JIT is. I perform the clean&wipe operations on system, dalvik, etc, on every new install, and when I get problems. I also give the installation a decent settling down time.
None of this appears to have any effect to make this phone operate in a stable condition, except disabling JIT. And that's basic phone operation - calls, Tweetcaster Pro, Opera mini, G+, and a few others - the phone works nicely when JIT is off, and lags/freezes/sometimes reboots when JIT is on.
What really murders the phone, though, is any app which uses the GPS extensively - Google Maps works fine right up until I try to use Navigation - then boom! Phone freezes and eventually reboots.
I mentioned I was going to try different firmware, well I did.
Firmware : ThGo2 v16.0d with Th kernel
Android version : 2.3.3
kernel version : 2.6.29-n1
Baseband : 2.1.71
Interestingly enough, this firmware reports my phone to be a SO-01C instead of a B.
This firmware actually works far worse than the others I've tried.
There is, of course, another possibility that the SO-01B hardware itself is faulty, or has become faulty during the time I've had the phone - I'm not discounting that either.
Limiting the CPU speed in an attempt to stop possibly overheating of some kind didn't help either.
In the meantime, I'm going to try using a lower numbered baseband version, and I'll even try using some earlier firmware.
I'll report my findings back here.
But anyway - thanks for your input too
Regards
Thanks for posting your experiences here, psyphah. I have an old SO-01B that I am using in WiFi-only mode (rooted too) that I'd like to change the ROM on. Gingerbread would be a lot better than the stock docomo ROM I'm running if ICS is not ever going to happen and run well on this phone.
I look forward to hearing more about what you've chosen.
I have a S3 on stock 4.3 when playing Fruit Ninja on the final fruit i use two fingers to swipe faster it sometimes stops detecting the input. I have tried multi-touch test apps and its OK however when doing the same as on fruit ninja swiping with two fingers fast it stops detecting and the touch point stays on even though I remove my fingers. Pressing it again removes the input. what is causing this?

Perhaps a buggy version of Fruit Ninja. Try to reinstall the game and see if there's any change. If not- download another game that uses multitouch (such as Music Hero) and do a comparison.

I thought so too but it happens in multi-touch tester app also but only swipping fast with two or more fingers and the input stays on until another touch is detected. I also experienced something weird today.A young one was paying temple run 2 on the phone and left it on the table i unlock it to find a purple/pink screen. I restarted and its fine now. Are these bugs in 4.3? I have got the phone only 2 weeks ago max. It was new out the box. These issues are making me very panicky. Ill give the music hero app a go. Thanks for your reply
Edit:The music Hero app works good but because there is no swipe action it detects all inputs. It detected 10 inputs in the multi-touch app no problem its only when swiping fast it happens i think

Then I suggest doing a factory reset + cache wipe from recovery mode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCiNgZklXeA
NOTE- it will delete all of your stored data and apps (but external SD is safe), so make sure to backup everything.
If the problem continues and you've got a warrenty- then you should contact your seller.
