I have not personally used this but in one of the numerous "un-brick" threads there is mention of a program called Heimdall.
Give that a search or look around, I know I have seen many other users with this same problem. Take a step back, breath, and search Cheers to your phone being okay.

Is it in download mode? If so try shutting down the phone. Reset odin, pull the phone battery, plug in the usb cable and press volume down to go into download mode and see if odin sees it. Don't worry your not perma bricked.

Was the battery out of the phone while trying to use ODIN? Were you holding the volume down button while connecting the usb cable? Are you using the usb cable that came with your phone? Have you downloaded the correct Samsung drivers?

Look here and follow this excellent guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026746
Personally, Odin refuses to recognize my phone on my desktop but has no problem on my laptop. Heimdall works fine on the desktop though.

Step 1. Get phone into download mode. If necessary, pull battery and plug into wall, holding down VOL-
Step 2. Plug in phone to PC and get phone to Add in Odin. For me, this involved downloading and installing drivers *again* from Samsung. And yes, you could use heimdall instead.

I had this issue once, did you try and install the drivers for heimdall? When ever I use hrimdall and go back to odin I have to manually remove the heimdall drivers for odin to work again. So if you did, get rid of em. If not, sound like a driver problem not an issue with the phone.

Phone Caution Computer Sign? Bricked??

I was Odining back to stock and then it failed. I turned my phone off then back on and it goes to This sign where is shows Phone caution sign then computer. Way to fix it?
Is this the Download Mode? If it is, I suggest Odining (if that's a word) eugene's Does Not Brick 2.2 (re-partition), and then load up JFD again. That's gotten me out of many a jam.
Dont worry, search in general for soft brick.

It wont show in odin because you are not in download mode, get into download mode, if you cannot figure it out SEARCH or post in the proper thread, its not that hard to undo where you are at.
Your phone isn't bricked...the first time that I used Odin I got the same error message after disconnecting my phone mid-download.
All you have to do start over from step one and eventually you will get back into download. Give time time, be patient.
No i do know how to get into download mode. I'v been in it before, I know i don't have a defected locked Vibrant. My phone will not get into it though. I hold the buttons for almost a minute. I tired so many ways. I searched. But still, Nothing.

Mounting problem

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I was unable to find it in the X10 section. I am trying to munt my phone to the computer but it is not mounting?? normally a window pops up on the computer or I can press mount on the phone but non of these options appear?? The does charge though. DOes anyone know what is wrong??
Dont know if this helps to dagnose the problem but I have a rooted phone with the latest software official sftware and jit.
same issue
CM 4.5.7
would loove a solution
I had the same problem, took it to service center and got a replacement. The problem started since early this month, many posted similar problem around this time. Coincidence?

It possibly could be a USB socket in the phone has come loose. Does the phone charge when you plug it in? If it does the connections should be ok. You could try using a widget like multimount which I find useful, just press it as you connect your phone and press it again to disconnect and the best thing about it is that you can listen to your music on your phone while you access your files on the pc. There's a free version in the market.

Thanks for the help Gingerbread man, the USB socket is a bit loose and does not always charge however, I can get the phone to start charginf via the USB slot on my computer but it will not mount on the. This leads me to believe that although the Connection is weak, it is still working and cannot be the problem.
Multimount seems very interesting, I would have given it a go but my market does not work and I have been unable to fix it. I normally download the prgram from my computer and then transfer it to my phone. I then install it using Astro but I cant even do this since I cannot mount my phone. <-- Its a catch 22
I really should proofread my comments before posting them
Are there any other solutions to the mounting problem??
Does anyone know of a really good link which would sort out the market downloading problem??? When I try to download something, it just says "your item will be downloaded" but does not start the download??
Try settings/applications/all/market then force stop and clear the data and cache or even try pressing uninstall updates and it should be ok again, this normally fixes issues unless its at Google's end

Thanks again Gingerbread Man I am quite sure that I have tried this some time in the past but I will give it another go. I have also got another Android phone and will try to download MultiMount on that phone and transfer it across to my phone.
A closing update:
I was able to install multi mount and the problem was still their. I tried the cable on my fathers new Android phone and it still didnt work but then when I pushed the cable in it conected for a while which means it is the connection.
In regards to the Market issue, I tried pressing force close, deleting all cache etc and uninstalling updates but the problem is still their so I will just have to keep looking. Thanks for your time Gingerbead Man
Not a problem for lending a hand, for your connector I'm afraid that's a job for a mobile repair store. About your market try what I said again but reboot your phone straight after.

Optimus wont connect to windows after unroot

I rooted my Optimus months ago and had no problem connecting it to the PC. But since I unrooted it when I plug it into the PC the only thing it will do is charge. I've enabled USB debugging mode and that has no effect at all.
I'm using the same PC I used to root the phone so I know it has the proper LG USB drivers installed.
What can I do?
did you enable usb mass storage? when u connect ur phone to the computer u should get a notification that tells u to click it if u want to enable it

When I connect my phone I get nothing. Other than seeing my battery indicator change over to the charging icon. I get no prompts, no ding noises, no prompts on my PC or my phone. I've tried connectign it with the USB debugging checked and unchecked and it seems to make no difference.
Before I rooted my phone I was able to connect my phone to the PC and enable USB mass storage mode. I could transfer music and videos no problem. But since unrooting it doesn't seem to work any longer.

I've been doing a little reading and I read that some people are bricking their phones after performing a factory reset after an unroot job. It's been several months since I unrooted my phone and I don't believe I made a custom recovery. However I'm still a little worried.
Well I did the factory reset but that still doesn't fix my USB problem. Damn it. Not sure what to do now...........
Are you using new usb if not then you must try a new one.
If you are using a new usb try restarting the phone then the pc.
I'm using a USB cord that is known to be good and also using a PC that also has the proper drivers installed. I'm rebooted the phone, PC, and even did a hard rest of the phone. Still not working
Maybe try to reinstall usb drivers, if this give no results, try to connect your phone to friend's PC.

I'm using the original cord that came with my Optimus.
Get ur phone rooted again and change ur settings as default they are before rooting.
first try to connect to PC while u have rooted. if its not work then try to connect it to some other computer or data cable. If doesn't work then unroot and contact LG.

do you want to connect your phone to the computer for developmental purposes or just to navigate through the sd card on your computer? there are apps that can help (like if you want to use adb, theres an app called adbwireless or if you just want to navigate, there are a couple of apps that allow you to wirelessly connect your phone to the computer)

2 PC's and my notebook can't detect my SGS3

So yeah, I give up trying in hope to get some decent help here.
I am not able to connect my SGS3 to any of my 2 PC's or my notebook.
I have tried everything as far as I know (on all 3 systems):
(Re)installed KIES
(Re)connected my SGS3
Rebooted the computers
Rebooted the phone
Did a factory reset
Used the SGS3 toolkit
Tried different USB slot
I even bought a new USB cable just to be sure :s
When I plug it in it starts charging and that's it.
Windows doesn't even give the confirmation sound when any random USB device is connected.
I don't see my SGS3 anywhere on my computer (not in device manager, nowhere).
I reinstalled KIES several times and installed the drivers through the SGS3 toolkit.
I own the international SGS3 with stock rom (haven't been able to update at all because of the connection issue).
I do not know what to do anymore.
Please help oh wise XDA gurus !
I would try a return to supplier and get them to prove its not hardware

Probably a broken registry on your computer try fixing it using advanced system care (it's free) afterwards try reconnecting it again. If that doesn't work try to go to samsung's support section and see what you can find to resolve your issue.
I tried it on my PC at work, same problem.
Registry issue on 4 different machines?
I think not.
Also:
I got connectivity for a moment on both my PC and notebook but it went away within seconds.
The phone gave the notification that it is connected as a mass storage device.
Then the message disappeared and it only charged and nothing else.
Playing with the cable it came back and off a few times.
Now it stays disconnected.
Seems like the connector in my phone is dead :s?
Open Terminal Emulator
type SU
then type this.....
setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage adb

Check the connector on your S3. The PC's maybe fine, but something is shorting pin 2 & 3 thereby nullifying the data pins.Hence it is being detected as a charger.(Actually that is the difference between a charger connection and a PC connection).Thereis a thread on XDA about cleaning it with a toothpick. Takes a few minutes actually.
you may consider on cleaning your phone's usb port
in addition, there is an app in the market (for free) that enables/disables usb mass storage (that's how i used to fix my usb problems; i honestly dunno why)
also, if u have tried different roms (stock/kernel), it may be a hw problem.

if this is happening on multiple machines then its more likely to be the phone, did it happen after a flash phone reboot?. It happened to me on my old galaxy S2 after flashing a corrupt MIUI ROM.
Flash back to FULL stock should resolve, if not then your phone is in a state you can return it in, if you haven't had it long they may do a straight swapout.

Does that mean you solved this with a flash back to Stock as I advised?, although sgs3 doesn't use mass storage, if you are on stock you wouldn't get these messages unless you had rooted and installed EASUMS. When you plug it in it should just say on your phone "connected as media device" and it will connect to your PC using MTP. All you need for MTP to work is the correct drivers, Kies install will provide these if you havent found them elsewhere.
Where are you at now then?

PC won't recognize S3

When I plug my international S3 into my PC it will charge but I don't see it on the computer.
Info: international s3, win 7 32bit, 32gb extsd card.
I've removed the battery and sd card, & restarted both the phone and computer. Also tried using many different usb port locations on the PC.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem with my phone. When I reset the phone, it'll connect to the PC but as soon as the phone updates from my Google account, the phone won't connect to the PC anymore. I tried replacing the phone and same thing. There's something with my Google account. I tried checking all syncing settings and even turned off all syncing. Nothing.
That is such a pain in the ass. If you find a solution please tell me.
I'm thinking about doing a factory reset but I'm afraid the same thing will happen as you.
It doesn't work in Ubuntu as well as Windows btw
Does the USB icon appear in the system tray when you plug it in?
If so, make sure you have it in Camera mode instead of MTP.
If it works, the way I got it to recognize the phone was when my computer failed installing the drivers, I set it to locate the recommended drivers from the internet automatically. I'm on Win7 32 bit as well.
