[Q] problem with ota froyo update issue - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, so I was trying to help out my friend installing ota froyo just now and on his phone, he's getting an error message saying Verifying current system... assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/bin/sh", "38567b9e95c42ab238c4ded8f3b8bf3297a2daae", "e8b39e7f3ad095bb7041439d5372921cb3de1681"). I took a picture . His device was once rooted and installed DL30. But I de-rooted for him and he's now running on EA28. So any idea how to solve this issue? Thank you!!

Make sure he isn't rooted on EA28.

You have a telus fascinate, not a TMO us vibrant, different beasts. I'm not sure if the telus fascinate has CM7 or not.

did you click the link,
i you did you would have seen that i am flashing a vibrant rom onto my fascinate. Either way im gonna get in trouble because if i post in the fascinate section they'll tell me to look here and vise-versa

Well, the link describes abut Samsung roms, you're trying to flash a CM7 rom. I don't think there are any "fixed" kernels in the telus camp for CM7.
The reason it's failing for you though, is that you don't have a vibrant rom (or a vibrant build.prop), so it fails at the initial check.

do you know how i could get it to work because the rom i installed is the one for the vibrant. Or so it says on their website

Well, step one would be to flash a vibrant custom 2.2 rom and then flash the vibrant CM7 rom. But you'll have button mapping and headphone issues, and no one will want to fix them, since you don't actually have a vibrant.

Um... There is a headphone toggle widget floating around somewhere, a good Google search should get you your desired outcome. Or, you could pop into one of the kernel dev irc channels, and they might help you build a kernel with fixed button mapping and fixed headphone issues.

[Q] Where can I get 2.3.5 418?

Google search just brings up a bunch of news about how it's on the way, but apparently I need it to flash the new version of Eclipse. Anyone have a link?

From my understanding, its an OTA update. So just be on stock and check for a software update. But be sure to go through the process to keep root.
Just updated while on stock and it's only taking me to 234, thinking I need to update to 235 in stock recovery but can't find a working download.
Hmm. Well I havent seen any link to download the update. I was under the impression that it was OTA. The only one I remember was the leak but I dont think thats what the newest version of Eclipse is based on. Sorry I cant be more help. I havent gone that route and updated. Im sticking with 2.3.4
You're good, yeah I'm guessing once I'm on 235 and update it will give me the new build. Seems like it may be a pain though because of some new security patch, might just stay on 234 myself.
The update really has nothing useful in it. I'd stay on whatever you have now and wait for CM9 which may be coming pretty soon. Thats my plan.
What's the word on CM9, I hadn't heard anything? Kind of veering off topic here but yeah I ran CM7 for a while, Eclipse was just less buggy overall. I'd kill for a solid MIUI on dx2.
Skwoodwiva...hope I spelled it right ...posted a link to it and I can't find it so I uploaded it to dropbox and here is the link for those who want it http://db.tt/mZSwYhOv

From what I understand they have NOT OTAd that update though I can confirm that they are coming from the factory like that, as my replacement did. Now you are able to sbf back to the release before this and achieve root from there

I assume you rooted using ZergRush method? This modifies system files during the root process and will force the 2.3.5 OTA update to fail during installation.
Root using Pete's Motorola Root Tools one click method and you will be fine. Just make sure you install VooDoo Rootkeeper from the Market and save a backup of your 2.3.4 root. Temp unroot and accept the OTA update. It will install with no issue if you use Petes one click to root. Once booted into 2.3.5 open VooDoo again. First restore root and the delete the backup. You can now flash eclipse 2.2

[Q] Stuck on Gingerbread 2.3.6

I've been trying to update my i777 to ICS for the past few days, but Kies grays out the feature to update and says update through Kies is not supported by my device. I've tried over-the-air updating, but it says my software is up to date. I have no clue what to do. Also, I tried rooting to flash a custom ROM and get an update like that, but that doesn't work either. Please help.

Same thing happened to me but I was able to root and then flash a ROM. I'm pretty sure I used some version of odin to root it but I can't be for sure.

I've sorted it. The problem was that I couldn't root because my computer didn't properly recognize my phone. I rooted and flashed task's jellybean aokp onto it, working better than ever. Thanks for the help, sorry for not making myself clearer on OP.

Upgrade Rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 from Ice cream sandwich to Jelly Bean

Hello ! Good day! I have tried searching for answers using the search bar but I haven't found answers.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 (international version). My android version is 4.0.4 . I want to upgrade to JellyBean. I have rooted my phone.
I rooted my phone using the steps in the unlockr website. I tried to find a solution there but I can't find one.
My phone is downloading a new software update. When I install it, after rebooting the phone it displays this.
- Installing package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I read somewhere that I can't update through Over-the-air update if I have clock work mod recovery. So how am i going to upgrade to Jelly Bean? Do I have to unroot my phone just to get the update?
Thanks you so much.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818203
Maybe here's some help?
That's why you can't update....because your phone is modified. Samsung have been clever when it comes to modifications and official updates. You need to un-root if you wish to do the update officially or flash JB with Odin if you prefer unofficial

flash a stock recovery and the ota should work. You may lose root - so may need to reroot
you can use the toolkit in the dev section to do both tasks

Thanks for all the replies!
I have unrooted my phone now. But now, after checking the software update, it says that there is NO AVAILABLE UPDATES FOUND. I really don't know what's going on. It seems that it defeated the purpose of unrooting since there are no updates.

No updates means your phone provider has not yet updated . Ask your phone provider or a Samsung forum .

Really? But how does it explain that there was a software update when my phone was rooted, and now that it's unrooted, it doesn't?
I also noticed that my build changed from imm76d.i9300xxblh1 to imm76d.i9300xxblg9. Does that mean anything?
Different phone build is the answer .
But why anyone wants to join XDA to update official is rather silly in my view .
All that happens is repetitive root unroot no update where is my update why dont i have an update .
OTA updates that are blocked may update via KIES .
Simply flash a stock JB rom or download whatever rom you want via CHECKFUS and flash via Odin .

I'm downloading this Android Version 4.1.1 I9300XXDLJ1 I9300OLBDLJ1 from sammobile.com
Tell me if I'm doing it right.
I'm going to put the extracted file to the PDA section in Odin, and START it.
Would that do the trick and make it JB now?
Also, would it wipe all the data of my phone?
Sorry for the hassle sir.

[Q] Disable OTA Update

My phone is rooted and trying to update to 4.3. I keep getting the "postponed" message; now, however, I've recieved the, "this is the last time you can postpone" it. Help. I want to keep my phone rooted so I assume I cannot update.
What do I do. Please help.... Thanks in advance.
Update and then root it again

Okay...use Rom Toolbox to freeze HtcDm (the app/service responsible for OTA updates [I think...]). Question: should I update to 4.3? I read somewhere that it strains battery life? Is there a way to do this through TRWP? Can I update to more current version of android?
Thanks in advance!!!!
