[Q] USB device not recognized - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I get the message when i connect the x10 to the pc "usb device not recognized" i´ve tryed other cables and uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them. Even anoher pc. but i get the same message where ever i try.
Is it possible that some of the pins are broken?
Is this something i can fixed on the warranty?
If so, even if i have installed a custom rom?
------
I turned the phone in and they replaced the SWAP-Unit. All on warenty! When i turned the phone in i asked the dude there about custom rom and repairs, he said it dident matter aslong as its something wrong with the hardware and not the software ofcaurse

Can u run the phone on flashtool or SEUS from SE on the computer? Or is the phone not reconized on that either?

Then you propably got broken usb connector or your IC controler on motherboard stopped working. If you look at your connector and all the pins just looks fine then connector is really ok. Now, it is surely IC controller. You have to send your phone on warranty, and you are going to receive a new one. Yes, a new phone. There is no other way to fix this. And from what I know, you don't have to bother about different ROM installed. No one else bothers bout it too.
edit:
Oh BTW, if this happened now, then propably in short time you will loose ability to charge your phone VIA USB connetected to PC, if not immedietly then after this charging won't be possible at all, even with AC charger.... So... be prepared.

No my connections looked fine but on metering from the USB connector to the filtering circuit it was open circuit I flowed solder on the joint I then had continuity reassembled and all worked great, no need to go to the interface circuitary. I am saying if the system cannot read the voltage drop across the shunt resistor it cannot control the current and will not charge.

+1, in my case it took about 2 weeks from pc unable to read phone to cannot charge at all.

Since u guys are discussing this, I wanted to know how does one disconnect the phone from the the PC.what is mount and unmount?? Will it harm my device in anyway??? Which is the safest mode to connect it to PC??

first, try a different usb cable, I had the same problem. as for the mounting problem, should have made a new thread, but you should mount usb to transfer files, but no need to if just charging, but be sure to unmount or else you could corrupt your sd card, and it also creates another drive on your computer if you don't 'safely remove usb' after unmounting

Depending on what your friend was running, yes, you need to install the drivers so that when you connect your pc recognizes it. It's not bricked, no worries... keep calm.
I made a post with the drivers, but you would likely find it faster with a quick google search.

re-install driver, change usb cable, etc...
What I've found is that 9/10 its the USB cable when the computer doesn't recognize the device. I'd check it first. Now a better question is what did you do to your friends phone to brick it with out it being plugged to the computer in the first place?

in addition to what you said, sometimes, pluggin it in a different usb works too.
Agreed!
The damn cables suck! Almost 1/2 need to be replaced eventually, and it makes you question the integrity of the device itself. They should make better cables or provide you with 2 when you purchase the phone.

[Q] No USB Connection -> Warranty?

Hey Guys!
I have a suspect problem with my Atrix. I dont get an USB connection to my PC (Win7 64bit) or to my laptop (Win7 32bit).
So when I connect the USB cable, I get the message "USB connection" in the status bar, but only for 1-2 seconds and than its gone.
Sometimes (rarely) it works when I press fast on this message (but it can be only luck).
But I flashed today a new ROM (AURA) and with fastboot I havent had any problems.
The drivers are installed on my PC and with this PC it worked at beginning (some month ago).
I have tried:
-different-ROM flashed (aura, Vodafone 2.3.4)
-Debuggin-on / off
-2 Different USB cable
Can it be a hardware problem? But I wonder why I have no problems with fastboot (charging via USB also works of course!)...
After the flash I try to root with Oneclickroot-package, but the programm cant find my atrix.
Someone else has an idea or maybe the same problem with fix?
EDIT: Have somebody experience with the motorola warranty support? Have somebody problems with warranty (not only motorola) beacause of custom ROM or something..?

my first atrix was replaced free (i was inside of the first 30 days) the second one my screen cracked and i did have warrenty however it would cost 140 +shipping so i just bought a new one for 99 lol and am planing to crack open the 2nd atrix and try to replace rhe screen
cause u can buy a new screen for like 40-60 bucks
then i plan to sell it on craigslist
dont think that answers your question
however if they can determine if its "hardware" related and not due to abuse and "normal use they prolly just extchange it
and yes all three of my atrixes were /are rooted and unlocked

This may sound silly but my atrix really does not like the USB ports on the front of my case
Have you tryed a different USB port
You have made sure that the usb mode is not "none" right? Because otherwise it will charge like normal and fastboot will work because that is pre OS but it won't transfer data when the phone is on.

Seeing how the Atrix is less than a year old I don't understand why we can't just walk into the store and get warranty work as long as it's not something done by the user of course. They know if it's one of their phones they sold by the imei. What difference does it make if I bought it 2nd hand?
Just ranting...
So, the problem was a defect mainboard. I sent it back to motorola and now it works again. Thx for help!

[Q] Can't mount to PC - Stock 4.0.3

I have a stock Amaze which I bought used. It charges fine through the USB but I can not mount it to my PC.
The PC does not acknowledge the phone at all and the phone does not acknowledge the PC at all, It just begins charging. I asked the previous owner, but he says that he always used a card reader and never tried accessing the phone through the USB port.
Has anyone run into this?

I've tried multiple computers and multiple cables including 2 OE HTC cables with the odd end. I've restarted the PCs and the phone. I tried with USB de-bugging both checked and unchecked. I haven't updated any drivers but I did install HTC Sync on one of the computers. I would think that even without the proper drivers, I would at least get an error message but I get nothing.
you need to install the htc usb drivers for the phone to be recognized by your computer.. open device manager and go to usb settings.. plug your phone it to see if it registers on the device manager.. after you installed the htc usb drivers (you don't need htc sync thats for updating and backing up sense)... if anything you can try to factory reset your phone..

I installed installed a driver package that that was named "HTCDriver3.0.0.007". Nothing registers in the device manager when I plug the phone in. I'll try a factory reset tonite and see what happens.
Also, I sent a message to HTC support this morning, but I didn't get a response yet.
Thanks for the help so far. If anybody's got any more ideas or experience with this, I'd love to hear.
dose your computer make any sounds when you connect the phone to it? and where did you get those drivers from? you might want to uninstall them and install the ones that come with hasoon's AIO toolkit.. or get them directly from the htc website

That driver actually did come from hasoon. The only thing available from the HTC site was Sync and a tethering driver, which I tried both.
when you install and uninstall drivers from the computer normally your suppose to restart the computer and the device.. and dose your computer make a sound when you plug your phone in? and does the charging light on the phone come on?

There's no sound from the PC or phone, but the charging light does come on.
if the light comes on the device is connecting to the computer.. if there's no sound the device isn't being recognized by what your plugin it into.. there could be one issue with the usb drivers on the computer and or something wrong with the usb port of the phone.. do you have another phone to connect it to the same cable.. using the same usb port on the pc to see if that phone gets recognized by the computer...? if it does then there's a problem with your phones usb port.. if it doesnt then it might be the cable or the usb port.. do the following un-install all of your usb drivers.. even the htc one.. restart your computer in safe mode with networking and then re-install the drivers and then plug in the phone to test it.. or you can boot the phone into bootloader by removing the battery from the phone then re-inserting it and power on the phone by holding volume down and power till the phone boots up.. go to fastboot and see if the phone recognizes the usb from there...
i still think the main issue here is driver related though.. maybe you have a virus on your computer messing with the drivers or firewall or antivirus or something.. but try the safemode with networking first before anything else...

Unfortunately to me it sounds like a messed up usb port in your phone. I have a moto defy that got water in the USB port and same problem now. It charges, but is not recognized by the computer in any way. No matter what computer, drivers installed or not, my amaze is always recognized somehow, when I plug it into a computer.

If anyone cares to know, I got a response from HTC. They had me do some tests which I had already done (different cables, different ports, reset the phone), which of course didn't work. They told me to call the service center. The girl I talked to seemed reasonably knowledgeable. She told me that it's very unusual for the port to be bad in such a way that it charges but won't pass data, but that it was not impossible. She checked the serial number and told me that I was on my last day of warranty and if I shipped it that day it would be covered, assuming there is no damage due to owner misuse. So I sent it in.
Assuming they can and do fix it, I'm not sure if they will give me any details as to what was wrong, but I will let everyone know what happened. I saw a few instances online of people having the same issues as me with HTC phones but no one ever seemed to have any solutions.
i'm not shocked that htc wasn't able to help... 75% of the time the people working tech support don't know anything they always read "steps" to fix certain problems from their database... **** i learned so much about computer's from google its not even funny... i don't call tech support unless "google" cant find a solution.. lol

My Amaze has been fixed under warranty and will supposedly be here tomorrow. I doubt HTC will tell me what the problem was, or whether it was a hardware or software issue.

I just had exactly the same problem tried everything clearing cache, different cables, restarting Phone, removing battery & sim, I was on the verge of doing a factory reset but realised that if it had no effect I would not be able to access my backup,
5 minutes with a needle torch and magnifying glass removed a lot of fluff (why didnt Samsung put one of those flap thingys over it)
Now works perfectly again,
hello i am haveing same problem i have 3 samsung galaxy s3 only one is not connecting to pc its charging only i have tried every solution on google as well as xda developers .... is their any kind of problem with my usb connector ???? will it resolve by cleaning or i have to change it ????
i have tried by changing cable hard reset secret codes every thing but had no luck i need help here plzzzzzzzzzz......
I think this will work.
I think one of this options will work:
-option 1:
Type *#7284# in your phones keypad. Then you choose qualcomm settings. Select MTP + ADB and then reboot.
-option 2:
Type *#0808# in your phones keypad. Select MTP + ADB and then reboot.
Same issue here
Hello I and many others have same issues after the 4.3 upgrade, theres quite many threads about it on the net but still no solution. I have contacted Samsung Sweden about this issue but they do not knwo of any widespread problem and said to send the phone to service (not optional for me since i change the screen of mine + out of warranty). Asked if there is any bugfix update on the way, but Samsung support didnt know about it
I have tried 3 computers and 6 usb cords, cleanded the connectors but no luck. In my case the phone never realizes that its connected to a computer, but starts to charges instead. Some people says that after the upgrade the computer sees it as an unknowned device.
EDIT: Didnt see this thread was solved, nothing to see here, will continue to look for a solution

i have a sgs3 i9300. i recently flashed the stock MJ9 android 4.3 firmware to it and it was working fine till 3 days ago when it started to show driving mode sign and then i flashed the rom again 2 or 3 times i wiped user data and now the driving mode sign is gone but i cannot connect the phone to the computer, when i connect it nothing happens, on mobile or computer. nothing. (no usb charging or mass storage or any sounds or anything) however i can charge it using usb charger that came with it and strangely i can even use the phone in download mode with computer to flash it using odin. i read somewhere that its not a hardware issue so im really looking forward to some help here. thanks

Would suggest you uninstall Kies if you have it then download the new version (Kies for non Android 4.3 or Kies 3 for Android 4.3) from here Kies this will re-install the new drivers, re-boot your PC then plug your phone into your PC and you should get the message installing drivers.
Don't let Kies run at the same time as Odin otherwise it wont work but I guess you probably know that.

Have you tried different USB ports on the PC, there have been reports before that for some reason the port people normally use stops working and by switching to another USB port it works

Have you tried different USB ports on the PC, there have been reports before that for some reason the port people normally use stops working and by switching to another USB port it works

Not having much luck are you, one last thing I have read before is using a pin or cocktail stick (you may need a magnifying glass as well) to gently clean the USB port on the phone and the cable, remove the battery first, but be careful you don't actually damage anything, that's why you need to be gentle with it.
Can you flash via ODIN successfully but phone not recognised by Windows??? Sounds like not all pins connecting properly. Clean connector VERY carefully...

i used a very sharp pin to clean the port on phone. did clean a bit, and had a bit of success. i cud charge my phone with the connector connected at a certain angle. if i wud touch it it would stop charging. but that went on for like 40 minutes and then it stopped working any ideas on how can i clean it? if i open the phone will i be able to clean it easily?

Never actually had to do it, only read what others have done, maybe an old dry toothbrush would do it as ling as you remember the gentle bit, if the pin did help then this could solve the problem for you it may simply be dust or dirt on the connections.
Would do both the phone and the cable end, not easy but worth a try as its free.
