Vegantab gingeredition Alarms problem - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I upgraded to gingeredition recently and it's awesome! (thank you)
If I set an alarm for 2 minutes away, it works fine. On the other hand, my morning alarm never goes off. Does the gtab go into some sleep mode that would prevent alarms in the distant future from going off?

I went from 5.1 to gingeredition and really loving it but I have seen the same with the alarm...used to work and now doesn't if it's very far into the future. I'm guessing if the device goes to sleep it won't trigger the alarm until you wake it back up. Then it goes off!
Seems like it's not checking the alarms while asleep/screen turned off etc.

I had this same issue. I changed the backlight timeout to never, when in the alarm touched the lil icon to dim the screen and it eventually goes to a screen saver looking clock. I left it like that over night and the alarm went off in the morning.

You need to disable deep sleep during suspend (which is doable but takes some effort) or leave it turned on, plugged in or not, but not sleeping.
Check out Softlocker free on the market, and pershoot's OC kernel in the development section here. I'm running mine "never deep sleeping" and alarms/alerts work even if its been suspended for hours.

[Q] Alarm going off randomly

My alarm has started to go off randomly in the middle of the night for the last week or so. I haven't kept track of the exact times this has been happening so I can't tell you if it's consistatnly at 230am but that is when it happened last night. I have only one alarm set up and that is for 6am. When the alarm goes off at 230am there is no way to stop it. The screen is just my normal home screen with no apps popping up and nothing weird in the status bar. The only thing I can do is let the alarm ring for about a minute and then it stops.
I can't figure out why it's doing this. Can anyohe help?
I would have solved it easily by throwing it out the window if it went off at 2:30am. I wish I had an answer but my alarm works great.
so last night it went off around 3am. i noticed that when i picked up the phone it said battery charged in the status bar (i think that's where it said it...i was pretty out of it). when i unplugged the phone the alarm stopped. i plugged the phone back in and a few seconds later the alarm went off again. is there any way to stop this?
Must be a system notification alert. I think the default is a ping sound, somehow yours got switched to an alarm sound.

hmm...i'm not sure how that would have happened. i went into sounds and changed my notification sound to some random beep. we'll see what happens tonight when i charge my phone and go to sleep haha.
You could try plugging it into a charger during the day for testing. I think I turned my system notifications off or way down because it also affected the startup/shutdown sounds (which I finally just removed the damned sound files for that).

thanks for all the suggestions guys

Alarm that turns on the phone?

Hi,
I´ve been using cellphones basicaly since they´ve first came out and most of the most primitive phones have always had the option to turn the phone on/wake up the phone with the alarm clock. So it strikes me as kind of strange that I cannot find this option on my Vibrant or on my wife´s Milestone. I´ve always used my cellphone as my alarm clock and I´ve always turned my phone off before going to bed...up until I got my Vibrant this was not a problem. Right now what I´m doing is turning both the Flight Mode and Silent Mode on when I got to bed, but it´s pretty hard to believe the alarm clock cannot wake up the phone.
Any thoughts?
cheers
Rafa

Alarm wont take G Tablet out of sleep mode.

I received my tablet a couple weeks ago and I have flashed Harmony Gingerbread rom onto it. I have been very very happy with it so far but I have noticed one thing. The alarm clock is not working correctly.
I have the alarm clock programmed for 630AM in and I put my G Tablet onto the malata dock. Like normal after a short amount of time the screen will turn off. However when 630AM rolls around my alarm on my tablet wont go off. (I have my archos 70 alarm clock set just in case the alarm on the G Tab didn't work) When I hit the power button on my G Tab the screen comes up and then the alarm will start going off (however many mins later than 6:30am)
It seems as if the alarm clock does not force the G Tablet out of sleep mode. Where on my Archos 70 the alarm does force the tablet out of sleep mode.
Has anybody else had issue with this and/or know a fix for this?
Thanks,
Aawa
I use Calkulin's ROM with pershoot's kernel. I have my email set to check every 5 minutes, and wifi set to never sleep. I don't know if this helps keep the tab awake or not (results in about a 10% loss of battery overnight), but I tested the alarm for two mornings and both times it went off.
I wouldn't rely on it though.

I know that there has been issues with people having sleep issues with the dock. Try taking your tab out of the dock and see if that will allow the alarm to go off as it should.
Other than that, make sure that you are on the latest kernel by which ever kernel dev you prefer, as they are both continually updating with the latest-greatest...
Same thing here,
Not even having the dock with stock ROM. Device will not wake from sleep on events for what ever events they can be.
Let me know if any solutions,
Charles
I have the exact same problem. I posted on the Q&A side and didn't get much response. I did, however, find a fix that involves an app called Load Monitor. It can be set up to prevent the tablet from entering what they call "deep sleep".
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022819
My alarm has gone off correctly the past three mornings (using App Alarm set to open Pandora).
follow-up
OK,
I think I found something related to this issue, when I turn OFF the screen time out, the alarm come on however, I have no sound. BTW this seemd to be calendar related only. I tried all combination of sounds settings and nothing works.
I will try with the alarm clock to see how it goes.
Lets see with the next patch.
Charles
I still haven't been able to get this to work correctly. I installed App Alarm and Load Monitor last night and it didn't go off this morning. I will see if i made any configuration mistakes and see if that works.
Did you go to Load Monitor preferences put checks in "Add Notification," "Auto Start," and "Wake Lock," and then change "Update Interval" to 5 minutes?
Apparently I didn't have Wake Lock checked. I just changed that and will be testing it out.
Thanks for the advise!
Ran into this issue this morning after updating to Ginger Edition 7 RC1 last night. It worked great on Vegan 5.1.1 but not after the update. Good thing I am paranoid about oversleeping. I will check out the load monitor app as well.
I installed load monitor and tested the alarm before I went to sleep. It appeared to work as the screen had locked and the alarm went off. It went off on schedule this monring but I hit snooze and the entire tablet was powered off when I woke up 30 minutes later.
I solved my problem
Since reading all the posts here that people were leaning towards wifi being the problem I remembered seeing wifi setting having something called wifi behavior under advanced settings, while I was poking around my new tablet. I went to it and there is an option where you tell the wifi never to sleep. That seems to have done the trick. It has worked both plugged in and on battery. The battery drained from 75% to 65% from 10:30 last night to six this morning. Hope it helps
Just noticed I posted on the wrong thread. I meant to put it on the g tab won't. Wake after sleep thread but I guess. It could be a related issue.

[Q] SOD Sleep Of Death

Basically I can leave my phone sitting with the screen off for awhile plugged in and eventually the phone acts as if it has been shut off. I think it is in deep sleep mode and it seems to do this quite often when it is on the charger. Is there a fix for this? I have read about this elsewhere but couldn't seem to find if someone knows how to get it fixed. And this is for my Optimus V with the default 2.2.1 android on it.
I have this problem too and it's very anoying. When I have an alarm turned on and sometimes the phone enters this SOD the alarm does not ring and when I pusn one of the buttons the lockscreen shows the hour the phone entered this deep sleep mode and after a second it refreshes with the current time.
Well my phone doesn't respond when I press any buttons or even touch the screen. Basically it would seem as if it is off because I think it went into deep sleep mode. There should be a option to turn deep sleep off but I have no clue how to do it. That is why I posted the question here.

[Q] Alarm clock and screen

So I'm pretty sure this happened and I wasn't dreaming.
I set my alarm for 6:30am. When it goes off, sometimes the screen will wake and gives me choices to snooze or cancel the alarm. However, sometimes the screen just stays sleep. I have to press the power button to make the screen come on.
Anyone have this happen?
Stock and rooted. Only frozen app is tether manager.
You must have been dreaming. Nah just kidding! This happens to me all the time. At first I also taught I was dreaming. It's funny how tech can mess with us and make us question our sanity, hehe.
I have one alarm programmed to repeat Every Weekday (Mon-Fri) and another one set to repeat Weekly on Saturdays and Sundays. The only times that my display has turned on for both alarms is when I wake up before the alarm and use the phone (check emails, etc. before turning the display back off). I think that this doesn't happen when the Note is charging, but if the phone has finished charging before the alarm goes off the display will not turn on with the alarm. Something is definitely causing the display to stay asleep when the alarm goes off. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this issue. Is it a flaw in the alarm clock, the Note, or some if there is some app messing with the alarm clock? Maybe a factory reset could fix it but I haven't given it a try. I'm on a stock Gingerbread non rooted i717.
If you find a solution to this problem, please share it.
Same to you. Glad I wasn't dreaming. lol
