[Q] Wireless Teathering - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why would the tethering be so much slower than usb connection is there some settings i can adjust to help this. I'm downloading around 29mps and uploading around 15mps on the usb,but only around 5mbs and 3mbs (on my laptop t-bolt still maintains the 29-15 ish) up with wireless tethering app.I want the wireless due to the usb takes my t-bolt off the internet nad its less trouble to connect my other system when i use it also my t-bolt batt wont stay up for using usb.

are you using wireless tether for root users?
or the built in verizon tethering app?

I've tried both just about same results

WiFi TETHERING

Hi
Bear with me as I know very little about this ( and did look! ).
Can someone tell me or give me a link as to how to tether my phone to my laptop so I can get my laptop online when out of a WiFi zone.
I'd prefer to do this by WiFi ( linking phone to laptop ), but if not then by USB cable.
I use a Mac, my phone's rooted, and I run Villian 2.1 ROM or Modaco 3.1
cheers
Well, the MoDaCo ROMs come with a wireless tethering app, so switch it on!
Bear in mind though that wireless tethering hits the battery very hard - in fact, even if you plug the phone into the charger, it will drain faster than it charges!

Dave

[Q] Connect phone 3G to Prime

Hi
I ordered my Prime and i'm waiting to be delivered.
I'm wondering if it is possible to share my 3G from my android phone with the Prime
I know i can do this with my windows laptop.
This way i can save the battery of my phone instead of using my phone as an accesspoint
I don't know about bluetooth, i think it also will kill by battery
yes
Thread on this in the Questions section, recently solved the issue with Ad hoc networks.
Portable hot spot enabled on your phone should do it.
USB tethering may be possible and use less power
Dont know about BT, I've always found it fiddly to get working although it may use a bit less power than wifi

HAHA Another Thanks virginity broken!!! man I am tearing it up!!!! Ok so it seems your question has been answered. I just wanted to let you know that we have a questions and answer forum.
I get the impression that the OP was actually asking about using his phone's 3G connection with a wired tether since he specifically mentioned not using it as an access point in order to preserve his phones battery.
To be honest, I don't really know and my Prime is at home whilst I'm travelling to work.
However, you should be able to connect your phone to the dock via a cable, and then use the WiFi Hotspot functionality as your dock will keep your phones battery topped up.

Dave
In the short testing I did, I found BT tethering to give the best battery life. USB tethering will drain the dock battery by charging your phone, so isn't always better.
BT tethering on my HD2 with ICS uses around 6% battery an hour on the phone, so easily enough on a full charge to keep up with the prime, even when docked.
I bought the Prime with the naive idea to not use my laptop on my trips.
Now I carry two computers instead of one, or I should leave the Prime at home
* The ad hoc is not working so I cannot connect to my phone (Nokia).
* Android cannot handle connections that need redirection of the website, I cannot connect to my hotel WiFi. I can do it on my laptop or even my symbian phone, but not with the prime.
It's so annoying... and I don't want to root the stupid tablet.

[Solved[Battery draining while plug in!

Hello again.
I'm having a problem with my HTC evo 3d. My phone discharging while is plugin to an ac adapter or while is on my charging PC port!. This only happens when I'm using the wifi hotspot or USB tethering and Bluetooth tethering option.
My USB sync cable is branew since the i though the issue was my old sync cable but that wasn't the problem. I guess my phone using more power than what the ac and port are giving to the phone. I have to stop tethering and use the fast charger option to go back and re-use tether. But I kinda getting tired of pausing Netflix and sometimes downloads just to let the phone charge. What can I do on this situation that I have on my hands.
Thanks in advance.
[Solved]
I used the voltage control app from the market it fixed the issue and now I can use the phone and tethering at the same time without the phone discharging....

Possible to to connect Ethernet to Mate 20 Pro

Hi,
I just wondered if its possible to connecta an Ethernet cable to the Mate 20 Pro and use the phone itself as a USB modem.
I know there are loads of USB C to Ethernet connectors out there but they seem to be aimed at PCs.
Basically I want to turn my phone in to an hotspot via ethernet, then plug the other end of the cable in to a WAN port on a router, and use that router as the wireless hotspot if that makes sense. It's because I am moving houes and will have 3 week wait for broadband to be installed.
A Raspberry Pi solution could be an option. I don't know enough to describe what to do.

Ignore me!
I already have a WiFi extender at home, I will just turn my hotspot on and programme the Wifi Extender to rebroadcast the signal. When I am out of the house the extender won't work obviously but will kick in to life when I turn o the hotspot back on etc.

SM-G991U Tethering usb/usb to ethernet

I have the T-Mo version of the SM-G991U.. I can plug my Phone via the usb cable into my Asus AC68U router without an issue. It stays on 5g, mods the header to 65 without throttling... but I would prefer using the belkin USB C to ethernet adapter with PD to plug into a separate power supply to alleviate strain on the router's power and plug directly into ethernet. The issue I'm having is the phone forces it to Ethernet tethering which in turn forces the phone into a 4g slow as dirt speed, drops the 5g bar to 4g, data speeds down to 2g.... Is there a way to bypass that issue so I can use a usb to ethernet adapter without it slowing down to a crawl? work and live in an RV 9 months out of the year.
I've just added Tmo to my mobile data devices, coming from Verizon where I have the Moto Z Force, and never really had the thought of rooting except for hotspot bypass. Been close to 4 years since I had a samsung phone (note4).. Not really concerned with knox, so root is fine. I just want to get a better option for my network. I use Speedify with a 8800L version gUDP, my Z force over pda net, and now I hope to add this phone as a 3rd bonded network to my network cab.
