No internet and other problems... - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last night my phone restarted and seemed to have reset everything... I no longer have internet (because all of the default APN settings for ATT in the US DO NOT exist)... My 'home' button does not work correctly. The device will not lock even if I try to setup the lock for it.
I had Gingerblur 6.something on there... I've been trying to read about "flashing the sbf" but I don't know enough to get this working... Can somebody point me in the right direction? Also, can somebody post their default APN's? I would really appreciate the help as my phone is really messed up atm...

can anybody help? it really sucks not being able to use my phone

Sounds like you need to do the SBF. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072) Its not hard if you follow step by step. What part are you confused about?

I actually managed to get it SB flashed but I cannot seem to get 1.5.7 rooted for whatever reason... I've been trying to install GreyBlur/GingerBlur.

http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root
^use gingerbreak. It's much easier and works great on the 1.57. Backup the contents of your sdcard though since it will erase all the data.
Also to enable sideloading, download root explorer and sqlite. Go into root explorer --> ers.settings/databases/settings.db. It'll bring you into sqlite. Select secure and the second line should be "install non market apps". Change the value from zero to one
After that, you can install custom ROMs through CWM. I personally like the Gladi ROM

Are you using GladRoot?

[Q] Rooting an Eris flashed to Cricket

OK so I am considering rooting my Eris and have been reading up a bit. My main concern is that the phone is already flashed to Cricket and if I root it will it "unflash" or in any way affect the functionality of the phone? I don't want to pay another fee to get it flashed again. It works perfectly on Cricket right now (3G, navigation etc..) Also, if i can root this to get froyo 2.2 how can I ensure i have the latest version? Thanks for all the help in advance. Really looking forward to OC this baby to 700mhz like i have seen people do.
PM XDA (or androidforums.com) member "pkopalek", and give him a link to this thread - hopefully he will respond here.
When it comes to Cricket+Eris, he's the right person to ask.
You might also want to do an advanced search in the Eris forums using his member name and Cricket as a keyword.
e.g.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=55944722
I know that he has used several - or many - dev ROMs on Cricket, but I am under the impression that there are some post-ROM-install steps that need to be performed.
If it's "Flashed" to cricket, you probably have much less work to do.
"Flash" is a buzz word that 'cool kids' that work at Cricket stores throw around, not really understanding what they're doing.
First of all, there's the PST settings. If you have a normal SenseUI ROM, you can access these settings with ##778 (call). Try that. Does that access PST settings? The password is 000000.
If so, all you'll have to edit here is MDN, MSID, and Home SID. You can get these numbers from Cricket customer service. Sometimes they call MSID something else. MDN is your phone number. Home SID depends on your physical area, among other things.
Once you have those, you can go through your PST settings and just confirm them with Ryan Mogul's PST settings thread, but DON'T use the PRL's he's saying to use (1039 or 38515 or whatever he uses, ignore the PRL file numbers, you're going to use 32100 or 32400 or something higher). If you need the PRL file, look at the attachment of this post. I put it there in a .zip file (unzip it first).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=492824
After making the appropriate changes with your phone number, MSID, and SID, you can hit Menu > Commit modifications, and your phone will reboot.
If you've already had Cricket activate it from their side (aka scan or put in the Serial # of your phone into their system so that their network allows it to be used) then talk and text should work at this point. Does it?
If it does, you're ready for the 'flashing' part. Is the phone Rooted? If you're going to get the Android plan from Cricket, you don't technically need it to be, to have full functionality on Cricket. If you're on one of the lower plans (that has Mobile Web on it), and you want to use it still, you'll need to Root, and do this 'Flashing' thing everyone is talking about.
The Flash just tells all of the internet traffic to tunnel through wap.mycricket.com port 8080 (the web proxy that Cricket requires phones on the 'mobile web' plans to use -- the Android plan uses NO proxy, so that's why we don't need this step if you're going to go on that).
First, to root your phone (if it's not already rooted, and it's OK if it is), jcase's 1-click root works great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742228
Download that and throw it on your phone. You can install it with ADB, or if you have wifi on the phone (whether or not it has cell service), you can just use the web browser on the phone and download it straight there. Or get tAttachApkInstaller from the Google Market (it's free), and send the eris one click root file (eris01root.apk or whatever it's called) to your Gmail account, then download it on your phone. tAttachApkInstaller will allow you to install it right from the Gmail App. There are other ways to approach getting the .apk on your phone, but either of those methods are pretty simple.
Then the flash itself. You want to download this flash, put it on your SD card (not in any particular folder, just ON the SD card), and flash it. Do NOT unzip things that you're supposed to flash. They're in .zip format on purpose. I promise. I'd download the Cricket v10 flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730289
If you're going to put a custom ROM on your phone; that's great. Do that first (through Amon-RA's recovery). I recommend xtrSense - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726467 - it works with Cricket perfectly, is 100% stable and has all of the stock functionality and then some, AND you can still access ##778, which can come in handy when you have Cricket. But just about any ROM available (even 2.2 Froyo ROMs) will work just fine. Always flash the Cricket flash (the link above that I explained) AFTER you flash a ROM. You can do it right after, or you can do it a week later. But either way, you'll need to flash it to make it work.
If you flash a new ROM, you have to flash the Cricket v10 flash again. AND you have to get Autostart installed on the phone. That's free from Android Market.
After a reboot, your phone will eventually ask you for SuperUser permissions for Autostart. Allow it.
Profit.
Let me know where you get stuck in this process, I'll try to help. But it works, I promise you. If you can't figure out PST settings, take screenshots of each screen and gmail them to me. I'll figure it out for ya.
It seems like it's so complicated, and that one little mistake will make it not work. Not really. It will work with a couple of settings off. But it's just data entry. Follow all the directions, and nothing will fail. If something's not working, don't get overwhelmed, just go one step backward and make sure you've got it all right.
Good luck, soldier.
Wow, Paul!
I figured you might give him some useful URLs, but you typed up the "motherload" - thanks!

How do I disable voodoo(maybe i should just go stock??)

I Have a few questions. first off. How do I know if I have voodoo. When I first got the phone and I was installing CWM and freezing bloat and all that, I swear I put voodoo on this. I even heard the robotic lady when I was doing it.
Right now I am still stuck on di01 and really want to get updated. To me, this has become too much work for what its worth. I kinda want to just go back to stock, have root and launcher pro and freeze the bloatware and just rely on Verizon for updates. I have tried for a few WEEKS now to update my phone on here and I always get stuck and run out of time. My life is too busy right now to be doing this.
So i guess my options are, first of all need to get voodoo disabled before I do anything, but I was told since I have a disappearing CWM(I installed it, but I cant get into it when I hold volume/pwer) that I should just get an "all in one package" from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048380
Then my second option is to just return to stock. Really all i care about is getting rid of touchwiz, getting rid of bloat, and having full control over my phone. By going back to stock, just having root and launcherpro, wouldnt this be accomplished? then when ever I want to update I just update through verizon and go get root again, right?
Maybe someone might want to list the pro's and cons of both options for me? thank you!
......bump
If you want to disable voodoo,
"Create a file or folder named “disable lagfix” in a a directory named “Voodoo” in your internal SD card.
Reboot"
More detailed information can be found here:
http://project-voodoo.org/documentation
Honestly, if the launcher is the only part of the "touchwiz experience" that you really notice as being annoying and you don't mind having a lot of bing on your phone, then the way you mentioned in your initial post is the way for you to go. If you want to be more thorough in getting rid of Touchwiz and changing the overall experience of the phone, then check out the roms here:

Hm. My phone is de-binged right now. i forgot about that. that would also be something that I would like to remove.
I am just not seeing all the hype for the roms compared to stock with root. all I care about is that things run smoothly and I control everything. Maybe I missing something though
I suggest u backup data with mybackup root, then flash di01 package using Odin, then update officially and restore data
Voodoo can be disabled by what the previous post said or by cwm
Also, if freezed the bloatware updates don't work. And to check voodoo, just run quadrant standard app and if score is 1500-2000 then u have voodoo, below 1000 then u don't
thanks for the clear instructions

[Q] Rooted?

So, I got an Atrix a few days ago and decided that it would be a good idea to root it. I ran the GingerBreak.exe file that i found on this site. I followed the instructions to the letter and got a reboot when it was done. It now has an app on there called Superuser, as it is supposed to. To the best of my knowledge the root was sucsessfull, however, I try and install CWM recovery, so that i can install something other than MotoBlur, and when i click the app to install from my sd card it tells me that for my own protection i can only run apps from trusted places. I have seached through as many forums as my eyes can handle and if anyone can tell me how to get this damb thing to work the way i want it to.

Be right with you one sec...
Ok, sorry, first check to see if you have the option to check unknown sources, under the settings -> Application Settings.
Furthermore, I think the best way for you to do it and also get you comfortable with the file structure of your new phone would be to download Root Explorer & SQLite Editor from the market. Yes, I know they cost a few $$ but you will use them both in the future, and they are well worth it.
Once those are installed, use Root Explorer to navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
Click on settings.db and it will open with SQLite Editor.
Select "secure"
Change the value of "instal_non_market_apps" from 0 to 1, by holding down on 0 and selecting edit field. Save Changes, and back out to Root Explorer and exit.
Phone may require a re-boot.
You should now be good to go for installing non market .apk files.
Plus, now that you know how to do all that, you can also try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980636
After getting CWM installed, I would suggest installing a P-ROM, such as Gingerblur or GladAtrix. These will de-odex your system and get rid of the bloatware:
Gingerblur:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991595
GladAtrix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019097
Also, you may want to attempt to unlock the boot loader (if your on a US AT&T Atrix), that way once true ROMs start coming out, you can flash them too.

You gotta get something enabled called sideloading working. look for something called gladenable http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1017373 that'll do it or grab droid explorer http://de.codeplex.com/ that will force the install from your comp without sideloading enabled.
You can also check you have root by using the following free app from the Market:
Root Checker
Rooted with Gingerbreak

Hi can you unroot ?
I was like you at first. I rooted a couple days ago but I couldn't download any untrusted sources apps. I was gonna go the sideloading route or use gladenabler or something. But I ran out of time near a pc to load all that stuff. So I was searching root android apps on the market and came across one called Non-Market apps enabler. It costs $1.39 or something. I was skeptical of it but I said since so cheap, let me try it out. I downloaded n installed. The app works flawlessly n like a charm. It brought the option into settings to check off allow untrusted sources download n install. It works. Ever since then, I'm now downloading any n every app I want. From the market or not. This is the fastest way to get the option checkbox untrusted sources into your rooted phone. I thought it was b.s. Bit it really works and I don't have to do all that sideloading or putting glandenabler or all that into my phone. I have the checkbox marked off now n I download what I want. Good luck. N remember, it's called Non-market apps enabler. I'm on froyo 2.2.2 build 4.1.8.3 , rooted using gingerbreak and it worked for me instantly!

[Q] Home & Back Buttons are messed up?

I'm going to start out by saying this is probably NOT hardware related! I've had my phone for over 6 months now and never had a problem. (Not Bought from Verizon).
Yesterday, after trying to clean up my phone and preparing to SBF it, something went wrong. I was rooted w/ Eclipse and had BSR. In BSR I did a clear Cache, Dalvik, and data wipe. After that (this is probably a very bad thing for me to do... but I didn't know any better), I partitioned my SD to ext=512MB, sawp=0MB, FAT32. I Also partitioned the INTERNAL SD... another thing I did was Format my SD and internal SD...
Probably not a smart thing to do, was it?
When I rebooted, I didn't even get to the "M" on the screen. It just said "FAIL TO BOOT 1", then said it was "STARTING RSD MODE". I know this was only a 'softbrick', so I wasn't too worried. I successfully SBF'ed it to 2.3.4, afterwards the problem started.
For some reason my Home Button acts like my back button, and my Back Button acts like my Home Button! Now I know there's a quick fix, which is just rooting it and using a root explorer to change a file related to buttons to switch them back.. but why can't I get it permenatly fixed?
I've SBF'ed it to 2.3.4 twice, and even did a SBF of 2.2.2, then 2.3.3. The problem is STILL there.. Anyone know why this is, and if it's fixable?
Actually the fix is super easy, just use a file explorer,I use root explorer and go into /system/usr/keylayout/tegra-kbc.kl open it with text editor and just switch the two numbers next to home and back, super easy fix

Yes, I know of that fix. That's the easy fix that I mentioned in my first post. I'm wondering why it does it even if I SBF it with any version?
Possibly hardware related it's been discussed before check this link.

The only reason I don't think it's hardware is because before I had that fail boot (softbrick), it worked perfectly fine. Ever since then the buttons were flipped..
I've read that thread before too.

StockKG2ODIN.tar.md5 File?

Hi guys, I recently soft bricked my sidekick4G (because I'm new to the sidekick and stupidly didn't do enough research) after installing a ROM.
The Easy One-Click Root program rooted my phone, but for some reason wouldn't pop up any super user notifications, so I went into super user and checked the allow all; that seemed to work for installing my third party apps like Root Explorer.
So I remember I installed the red CWM or w.e it's called (Voodoo?) and that work fine, I can still enter it, I can also enter the orange CWM by applying the "sdcard:update.zip" (Which I thought to be forbidden).
So here I am now getting a robotic woman's voice on every boot saying "Convert data partition, system not available"
I know I need to use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186954 to go into download mode and install ODIN,
SO.... My problem is that I cannot find the StockKG2ODIN.tar.md5 file ANYWHERE, all megaupload websites blocked it, and risky torrents have already pissed me off enough.
If any of you have this file, can you Please, PLEASE attach it or upload it, or find a working link for me? I would really, really appreciate it.
Or
If there are any other alternatives to fix the dilemma I'm in, please let me know, as I am new to the Sidekick 4G.
Thank You Guys! And I can promise some THANKS for you too if you help me out =)
