[Q] Re: [Howto] Get to ED01 (Official Froyo) Quickly - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've followed the steps listed in that thread but when I try to get into recovery mode with CWM (after I've already flashed it with Odin), it won't let me apply the update.zip due to the signature verification error thus preventing me from using CWM. (It only shows me the stock recovery menu)
I then started the process over from the start but this time, I installed CWM immediately after reverting back to DL09 and successfully updated it and was able to get into the CWM recovery menu - but now I can't apply the EA28 update.zip because of the following error:
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == " SCH-1500" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "SCH-1500"
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Am I doing something wrong and can anyone help me figure this out?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I should probably mention that I have the Samsung Galaxy S (Fascinate)

Disable signature verificaition in recovey and then flash
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App

I'm assuming you're talking about my first attempt in which I meant to explain that I was never able to toggle the signature verification because I wasn't able to get into CWM recovery mode in the first place. The stock recovery menu doesn't allow the toggling of the signature verification.
I'm somewhat new at this so I might be missing something obvious here. If so, please let me know.

If you're following that thread, why are you installing CWM? The update.zip files that are posted there are the official update.zip files and are signed, so you can flash them just fine in stock recovery. Flash transfer the EA28 update.zip file to your SD Card, then flash DL09 via Odin. After flashing DL09, boot your phone to recovery and apply the update.zip. After that, start up your phone and transfer the ED01 update.zip to your SD card, reboot into recovery and apply the update.zip again. There is nothing in the entire process where you should be flashing CWM.

Thanks for the reply, imnuts, but the reason I'm installing CWM is because I want to flash one of the roms, i.e. Evil, and I don't know how to do it without CWM. I've successfully updated it to ED01 twice now, but afterwards, I can't go back into the CWM recovery mode - it only shows me the blue stock recovery mode and I don't know how to get back into the red CWM mode to flash one of the roms that are on the front page of the development page.

You need to flash CWM in Odin, then boot straight to recovery after you go to start you phone. If you allow the phone to boot normally after flashing, it will re-write the stock recovery over CWM. After you boot into CWM, flash a custom kernel and then you can boot up normally once, or also flash the ROM you want as well.

no custom rom after official update?

hi there!
i just flashed the official rom to my htc hero to get the latest radio.
T-Mobile DE
RUU_Hero_T-Mobile_DE_2.73.111.26_release_signed_NoDriver.exe
from here: showthread.php?t=559622
now im trying to flash the latest villian rom 12.
if i boot the phone via home-and-power into recovery mode i just get the orange/white warning triangle. if i hold home-and-power again i have three options: reboot the system, apply the update, and wipe data/factory reset. if i try to flash the rom i just get
e: cant't open /cache/recovery/command
-- install from sd card
...
e: no signature (785 files)
e: verification failed
installation aborted.
im trying to flash via the bootloader (back-and-power) and access the phone via fastboot my device will be recognized but i can load any recovery rom.
i entered:
"fastboot-windows boot recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img"
i also tried the latest recovery rom from here: showthread.php?t=561124... and others, that i found on different sites and threads.
this is the message i get:
"downloading boot.img ... FAILED (remote: not allow)
i also tried to flashing the recovery rom via flashrec.
these are the versions i used:
flashrec-1.1.2-20090909
flashrec-1.1.3-20091107-2
flashrec-20090815
but i cant backup and therefore flash a recovery-rom.
so are all my hopes to flash a custom rom to my phone gone because i flashed the official update or is there any way to maybe downgrade again?
im new to the rom scene, any help would be much appreciated.
cheers.
For now you are essentially up the creek without a paddle.
I'm not aware of a way to reverse this issue
Goes to show you should never flash anything that comes from HTC...
http://villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=28 explains why this shouldn't be done. Not much help though
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to q&a

[Q] Failure on installing Custom ROMS!

I have literally read all the threads here about installing custom roms...
however my phone doesn't seem to work..
I have Galaxy S Vibrant.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
I got help from this 'noob guide' but still I have different problem.
I have froyo. (2.2) and my phone is rooted. (one click root)
I installed ROM Manager (free) and flashed it. and then when i reboot into recovery, and click 'reinstall packages' I get the following notifications:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
What's the problem with my method?
On the forums somewhere there's some tutorial on how to get arround that but for me its easier to downgrade to stock 2.1 using Odin and then root and get clockwork and you wont have that problem
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
you have a 3e recovery since you upgraded to 2.2 You need to either modify it by following the thread in the development section or....
odin back to 2.1, let it boot, root it.
install rom manager, install CWM recovery.
reboot into CWM recovery, you'll probably have to reinstall packages.
Flash w/e custom rom you want. Just be mindful of voodoo and whatnot.
clicky thanks if it helped.

You might need this

Hi,
Try this one:
1. Download one of stock kernel from this thread which is required by your ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
2. Put it in internal SDCard and change name to update.zip
3. Flash latest CWM through ROM Manager
4. Reboot into recovery via ROM manager
5. Choose 'Reinstall packages' when rebooting to recovery. You may need to do it twice.
6. After successfully reboot into recovery, you can flash your ROM now as usual. Put your ROM file zip in internal SDcard, then you can 'choose zip from sdcard'.
Good luck.
IN the noob guide I state you need the 3e modified recovery, stock 3e will not allow you to install CWR.
From the guide:
If you have issues flashing Clockwork Recovery's update.zip, it is because the new stock recovery (3E). Please see this thread.

Like others said, you have a lot of choices.
1 -use the modified 3e
2 -odin to stock JFD and use the update.zip to root, RM, CWR, flash rom of choice
3 -odin using the ALT METHOD in the noob guide, flash rom of choice
I personally followed this tutorial and it worked a treat:

[Q] Rom Manager - Failed Backup

I'm trying to use Rom Manager to backup my Vibrant for the first time. I'm running Stock Froyo.
I tell Rom Manager to flash the clockwork recovery, select Vibrant S and it "succeeds"
I then tell it to backup current ROM, and it has me confirm the name of the backup and then reboots. At reboot I get a few lines of yellow text that says Intalling Multi-CSC which seems to work.
It then just sits there. I assume I need to select "reinstall packages". When I do it gets a signature verification error on the update package.
I must be doing something wrong!
Reboot your phone into cwm recovery and backup from there. If your having issues getting into cwm recovery, just keep "reinstalling packages" in stock recovery. Also make sure update.zip is in the root of your INTERNAL sd card.
Future questions should be put in the q&a section. Not general

Sorry for picking the wrong section.
I have verified that Rom Manager did put an update.zip in the top level internal.
However, every time I select backup rom from update manager it does the same thing. It reboots and when I select reinstall packages I get
Install from sdcard
Finding update package
verifying update package
(all in yellow) followed by a progress bar that goes maybe a quarter of the way, and then in red
E: faile dto verify whole-file signature
E: Signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
If I keep selecting reinstall packages, it just repeats the above.

[Q] -HELP- Clockwork Recovery Not Working?

Here is the video, sorry for the bad quality. If you couldn't understand, basically I looked up how to get clockwork mod recovery, as my recovery is the original one that does not allow you install custom roms.
So in ROM manager I choose the vibrant as my phone for Clockwork Mod, and it says it was successful, so I do Boot into recovery.
The thread then said to choose install packages, so I did that, and it loads like 1/5 of the bar and an error message is displayed. There error reads:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I dont know what it wrong, my old vibrant worked fine when I did this and I had a custom ROM i enjoyed until I dropped my phone and phone it. They just sent me this knew one since it was insured, and I want to get a custom ROM on this vibrant too.
Thanks everyone, XDA is the best!

Im VERY sorry about the quality. Thats why i also typed out my problem.
Froyo 3e recovery won't allow you to flash anything.
-Use Odin to flash back to stock JFD Eclair..then reinstall packages x2
-Use Odin to flash Voodoo + Stock kernel--then flash ROM
-Try modified 3e recovery thingy (doesn't work for me)
Delete update.zip and try again from within rom manager

a failed signature veriication either means the file is corrupt, downlod and copy again or thats not meant to be applied thru recovery.
you can verify corrupted downloads by opening on desktop. the desktop archiver will report corrupted zips on opening. any.

If you continue to get the error. I would suggest ODIN and re-root. I myself just flashed back to stock to test another issue and ran into having to repeatedly flash CwM before i could get out of Blue recovery thats why i posted that link. Although my problem never produced an error like the OP i just couldnt get out of Blue recovery i almost got worried haha

[Q] Stuck in android system recovery, E:signature verification failed

Hi all, I tried rooting my MT4G with the gfree method, after I rebooted i saw that S=off so i went into HBoot and Rebooted, The screen goes berserk and ends up on Android Recovery, I figured I'd just apply the stock recovery, PD15IMG.zip i renamed it to update.zip but I get, E: signature verification failed Installation Aborted. :/ i tried a few files. Also can't open / cache/ recovery.
Update*
Figured out how to fix it incase anyone was having the same problem, you need a fake flash recovery image, however i cannot seem to find a download for it since Clockword Mod Recovery is now on the market, please if anyone know where I can download ClockWork Mod Recover as a zip file still post.
Got that same problem.
But when I'm trying this, it doesn't install successfully and says: "Signature verification failed, installation aborted."
Hey if your still on this, I just fixed it today!! Download PD15IMG.zip, put it on SD card - hold power and down then hit HBoot, let it run and BOOM! your done.
