Okay. One of the few things I like about MotoBlur is the social networking Widget, and the status update widget.
However, if I just include the friendfeed.apk and statuswidget.apk in the bloat restorer, I can't place the FriendFeed widget anywhere, in any launcher. I tested this before I installed greyblur, and it worked just fine. Afterwards, no more FriendFeed.
Does this mean that it might depend on another apk to be in there?

Has anyone compiled a list of the safe-to-remove apps for the AT&T GSII along with corresponding .apk filenames, yet? I've already removed a number of them via Root Explorer, using the list of removed apps from Cognition's rom, but there's a couple that still remain and I'm wondering if they're ok to remove or not. A full list would be best, though I'm mainly wondering about:
Kies Air
Featured Apps
Social Hub
AT&T Hot Spots (doesn't show in app list, but still shows as a running app for me)
Don't know...I saw that AT&T Hot Spots wasn't actually in the drawer but it shows up as a running app too. I don't plan on removing Kies Air or the Social Hub (for the moment) but I'd like to remove "Featured Apps" but when I go into Titanium Backup it'll ask me if I'm sure I want to do this since it's part of the framework so I've backed off of it for now...I'd like to know about these 4 apps and if they're safe to remove as well.
I used root explorer and did it manually. I lost count how many I ripped out.

I would like to keep a running list of AT&T-delivered apps from the stock ROM that are safe to freeze/uninstall without causing any loss of essential functionality.
Amazon Kindle
AP Mobile
AT&T Code Scanner
AT&T Family Map
AT&T Hotspots (if you do not use it)
AT&T Navigator
Buddies Now
City ID
Digital Clock
Dual Clock
Featured Apps
Live TV
Media Hub (not AT&T Bloatware, rather Samsung-delivered)
Mini Diary
Mini Paper
QIK Lite (if you do not use stock video chat)
Yahoo Finance
YP
If you have any apps that you have removed and run problem free for at least 48 hours, please let me know and I will update the list.

From this thread.
Honestly I'd recommend installing Titanium Backup and doing a backup before you remove ANY apps. You simply never know if you might need them down the road for something. Sure 99% of the AT&T crap is crap, but there's no reason not to back them up first.
Also, if you're worried about it, buy the PRO version (of TB) and simply freeze ones you don't want to use. This isn't deleting them, it simply disables them.

I have the PRO version. I know about freezing but I was being lazy and I know there are much more adventurous people than me who've gone ahead and ripped things out. I didn't want to do the freeze app, okay seems safe to remove, repeat per next app deal. Like I said, I'm lazy...
Some of these At&t apps i cant find under root explorer, for example featured apps. what would be the file name for featured apps?

If you want to uninstall even more bloatware you need to get the app called
"SystemAppRemover" from the market. (everything will show up with this).
It makes it very easy to uninstall most any system apps.
The app has other functions too.
It's also best to flash a Nandroid backup of your rom before uninstalling
bloatware/system apps.
(use CWM Manager or CWM Recovery and NOT rom manager for backing up).
Good luck!
Everytime i update a ROM, i loose my settings of different pages in my phone ,i have reinstall the widgets (not the app). Is there a better way to do these. I mean, i want my facebook widget to be on a page and Pulse news and bbc on one page, I have it set right now but if i update to the new version of the ROM i am using i will have to recreate all that.
Can anyone guide on this matter ?

I have yet to find a good way to do this, other than using a third-party launcher so that it can be restored using "restore missing apps and data" in TiBu.
Also some third-party launchers have their own backup and restore functions.
There's no clean way to do this for built-in launchers, especially since many ROMs change the launcher to modded variants.
As entropy said. Find a launcher with save & restore option. Otherwise Titanium backup.
I would be interested too if you find something to solve this without an app.

even with a 3rd party launcher, i dont think widgets can be restored.
This is correct.I kmow Launcher pro will save the placement of the widget but it will show as "problem loading widget" so essentially its useless in that aspect.
If you use the widgets that are specific for the launcher you are using, the restore will work. However, if you use a widget from another application, the launcher does not know where to find the app. I am not sure why this happens, it may be because a unique ID is assigned an app upon install, and perhaps that ID is used when setting a widget. When you re-install an app (or all of them in the case of a TiBu restore) the apps get new IDs assigned to them... That is just a guess.
Regardless, every launcher has this issue with app widgets. Somehow they get around it with their own proprietary widgets.
I have had a problem with missing or non functioning apk's, specifically some of stock apps like FM radio and the either stock home UI. I installed the fix from the market and the default home shows in my home options with i dont have a default set but when I try to use it is says "This is Not a MotoBlur device: So I'm like WTF??? Apps are missing or will not work even though they show in my system/app folder but not in the app drawer. Anyone have any suggestions? Not even sure a complete reset will do any good if there are any missing system files.
One thing to note, my gf has the same stuff missing or not working but was able to get to the stock UI after downloading the fix.
Did you manage to fix this as I have the same issue on my ATrix.
Thanks jonnym
Hi!
Recently, I flashed CM7 (Neutrino ROM) onto my Atrix, and I'm loving it. However, there is one problem left: The stock calendar app that came with the Atrix is gone, and I can't use aCalendar or Agenda any more without resorting to Google Calendar, which I will not, being very sensitive about data privacy.
How can I get back a purely local calendar that both are able to sync with? They do not know about each other (same with Jorte, Business Calendar, ...), and I have not found any suitable replacement for that team so far, as most calendar apps' native widgets do no fulfill my requirements and Agenda is very, very customizable.
Google has turned up nothing so far, and I am hesitant to just try files from several sources, as I have bricked my device that way before.
Thanks for any advice!
David
if u made a nandroid backup of stock atrix extract the calendar apk and use it, as it seems that's what you're familiar with
I didn't, as I couldn't, as the system was very, very screwed and I feared I would break even more. [Edit: Furthermore, I did not want to install an app with a wrong version number any more, as this is what trashed the system in the first place.]
Also, I don't care about the 'familiar' part, I just need that calendar to run in the background, so aCalendar and Agenda (and possibly, other stuff) can sync to it. I never used the app itself, just the framework it provided. If there is any other way to provide a local framework to those apps, I will gladly use it. (I did put a CalendarProvider for 2.3.7 from somwhere onto it (trusted source, just forgot), as I figured it would most likely be said framework, but alas, it doesn't seem to be.)
I have upgraded to the stock jelly bean and I do really like it. However, I love switching out launchers and keyboards. Now my note has slowed down when unlocking and switching apps. Is this because of the several launchers? Or is it jelly bean? Help!
in advance, thanks
Rachael
I don't think launchers hog resources and slow the device down. Only one should be running at a time. You can check in your stats to see if more than one is. Under settings - applications swipe right to see what's running.
However launcher add-ons can. I noticed go launcher has TONS of cool additions and themes but seemed to kill my battery.
Are you rooted? You can always freeze the stuff your not currently using, and unfreeze when you want it. Also the stock update has a LOT of unwanted apps. Freezing and removing that crap can increase performance.
Thanks for the advice. I have rooted my device and tried to freeze several apps. I am not sure which ones I can freeze. Any advice?

You can always "feeze" an app, then use your phone for a day or 2 to see if anything doesn't work properly and unfreeze it to fix. Stay away from freezing system settings. There is very few you can get away with freezing. Some of the apps I froze you may or may not want to depending on what you do with your phone. Like for example I don't use allshare or quickpic but you might. I'll try to write down as many as I can remember and see are removed thru titanium backup. But I might of uninstalled some and cant remember.
I'll add to the list as I remember or freeze more or if someone add's in future posts.
