See if you have the power control widget in your installed widgets list. If you do, set it up to display the panel rotation button on your home screen. You can then use that button to lock the tablet in whichever orientation that you choose. If its not installed you can grab it from the market.

Hey all. I always wondered why Archos didn't make a lockscreen (like most android phones have). I always liked to have some widgets and info on my old iPhone lockscreen so I could see basic info without having to unlock the device.
Has anyone come across a way to add a lockscreen to Gen8 devices? An option to turn on/off the lockscreen would be a nice addition by Archos.
I had used this basic method to lock my screen.
Settings --> Location & security --> Change screen lock
You can use Pattern or PIN to unlock screen.
If you need Slide to unlock, you can search "Unlock Screen" for apps in market.
jakkrith's method is great. or you could purchase widget locker from the Market:

Force Closes on A70S.
I think what Techngro means is a lockscreen which also shows some useful information like calendar, todo list, etc..without a need to unlock it.

I installed widgetlocker, but I got a problem now.
When I try to put out my screen (by pressing the power button)
The screen will turn black, as it has to, but then the slide bar will return.
I have to push the power button again to let the screen stay black.
Is there a setting I set wrong? Or is there a way to let the screen turn black and stay out at once? (until I push a button ofc)

Some folks have reported sleep issues with widget locker. you should check out the thread on XDA for possible solutions. i believe there is setting in WL to prevent it from coming back on:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732986
I looked there, but couldn't really find it in the 680 comments.
Used the search function, but I don't think I use the right words..
Can you tell me where to look, or what words to look for?

Yes, that is what I was thinking about. I'll take a look at widget locker though.
Does anyone know where the options are for the kickstand? I can't get anything to come on the screen when i open it. My screen rotates but stays on the homes creen with no options.
Wont work if you are using an alternate launcher like LPP. Other wise its under display settings, toggle kick stand on.

So if your watching a movie & have the kickstand up with the phone on the table, the screen wont stay on if your using launcher pro?

Yes it will work just fine. I was referring to the options that pop up for you to select while in kick-stand mode.
I use go.launcher and when I open kickstand I then have to hit the home button to bring up the clock

I use go launcher and I can't get the default desk clock to show no matter what I try.
What about being able to turn the screen side ways without the kick stand up? I like to turn my phone side ways and have the home screen long ways.
any ideas?
(everything else turns when i turn the phone, ie text browser option screen most programs, just not the home screen, unless the kick stand is out?)

Launcher Pro lets you do this, but you loose the kickstands activation of the desk top mode.I've made a shortcut on one of my homescreens for the desktop when I want it.

With LP, you get an option to put an activity on your homescreen just like you would for a widget or application. Long press a homescreen, select shortcut, select activity, select desk home, select desk home.

I'm using Launcher Pro and the kickstand option works fine for me. When I open the kickstand, it asks if I want to go into widget clock/kickstand mode. Is that not what happens for other people?

It didn't used to work for me, that's why I made the shortcut, but I just tried it and it worked. I wonder if this has to do with me flashing the Laser P-ROM yesterday which has the HDMI webtop hack. Do you have this hack installed? I also noticed I get a notification that I'm connected to multimedia station even though I'm not when the kickstands activates. I didn't get that message before.
Just some info for everyone that is wondering, not sure if this has been covered yet, I looked and it seems that it hasn't been mentioned.
This is a very easy way to get customized knock-off (double-tap to turn off screen) working on any non-stock ROM where knock-off might not be included.
1. Download GMD Gesture Control from the market. You should probably use the paid version since the free version doesn't support custom gestures. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontrol&hl=en
2. Download the Screen Off app (free). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
3. Open up GMD and turn off any gestures you don't want that are included with the app.
4. Click on User Gestures up top, and then click path.
5. Under "Gesture Path", type in "T-T"
6. Click under action, select "application" and select "Screen Off" (the one that you just downloaded).
7. Click "Save" at the bottom, and bam. Double-tap goes to screen off.
**NOTE** I changed the starting zone (in the Create Gesture window) to only recognize double-taps on my status bar region, because often I would shut my screen off without meaning to.
Sorry, if this is a repost, I just spent a long hour pulling my hair out trying to get this to work with Nova launcher (wanted my double-tap to work anywhere in my ROM), and was super stoked when I figured this out.
Great idea I wonder why I haven't thought about this before
Thank you. I tried to spread the word on this method when CM was first released for the G2. My only difference is I use Secure Settings
Edit: just realized you missed another obvious bit
If you use Nova or Apex you can set a double tap gesture to turn off the screen the same way. Suddenly you have the same functionality as LG included

Ah good idea. Then you can have an easier time turning the screen off when you're in your launcher. Good stuff.

How can you do the screen off? I stopped using Nova because I could no longer turn off the screen, there is no turn screen of under gesture settings.

Hi,
It works with Nova, you need to double-tap in the notification bar area (but only here), nothing to set in Nova it works just like that...
How about screen on?

You are correct, there isn't a screen off option. However, you can set the double tap gesture to open a SHORTCUT that will turn the screen off.
I'm assuming the app OP linked to allows you to set a shortcut for screen off. If not, Secure Settings for sure does (it's what I use).
Here's proof that it works
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvesNzvgKDQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
That video uses OP's GMD Gesture control trick and Nova Launcher's double tap gesture. Only difference is I'm using secure settings instead of the screen off app
Ok, for those who want to use screen off with Nova or CM do this.
Download this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
in Nova Settings go to gesture and Buttons/ Double tap/ and select Screen off, Simple as that. GL
I was thinking, if BlackBerry Launcher allows you to customize keyboard short-cuts to any key on the Priv/KeyOne, maybe it'll do the same for the Gemini.
Yes, it does! The launcher isn't as flexible as Nova, but it allows you to set up keyboard shortcuts while on the homescreen. So, for example, I can quickly go home with Fn+D and then long-press M to launch Google Maps. You could toggle Tasker shortcuts or anything else as well, possibilities are pretty endless.

You created shortcuts that require you to hold down Ctrl first? How? The only options I see are long and short press.
I mount the Gemini in my truck as the head-unit when I get in (I'll share the solution in another post). Just created a Tasker profile that when I long-press Q it turns the display brightness all the way up, sets display timeout to never, connects to my Echo Dot via bluetooth, then reads back "Car Mode On."
When I hit Q again it reverses everything and says "Car Mode Off." I'm having fun hacking this little device.

I installed the BB launcher then just pressed the Ctrl key with a letter key (e.g. "e") and the launcher offered me some options to link to this combination.

No, it's either a long or short press of a single letter. You are unnecessarily holding Ctrl, it's not needed.

Make sure your Planet App Bar is set to Force Landscape and Display Settings are set to Stay in Landscape when Rotated, or get an app like Ultimate Rotation Control which allows you to fine tune rotation, which is what I did. Set it to Force Auto, which will allow apps to rotate that don't normally allow that.
Hi all,
Any ideas where I can find a floating dock for Nokia 8? My primary purpose is to be able to avoid using the button on the side to turn the screen off/lock the device. There are several available on the Play Store however they do not offer the ability to turn the screen off individually. I have to enter the pin when I wake up the device?
Alternatively, any gesture app would work too...I coud doube tap anywhere on the homescreen to turn the screen off!
Thanks!

You can use Microsoft Launcher and set home button as turn off screen.
If you don't mind widgets, Screen Lock by Prahallad works. No problem with fingerprint/PIN (have to enable support in settings). Doesn't fully lock immediately; screen blanks then in few seconds device enters actual locked state.

yeah well, then again, its a whole launcher....I like my pixel launcher as is....just need a small app for the dock...not looking to install an entire launcher for that purpose. But thanks man!
P.s. I did install it and check it out....however, it locks the device rather than turns the screen off....so back to square one
