Can anyone link me to any ROM (2.1-3, doesn't matter) which has CWM working? I can only ODIN and can't install CWM. I have flashed 2.1 and 2.2 official ROMs for ODIN, but neither have CWM.
The impetus is to fix my modem. Something is severely wrong with it and I need to test out more modems. I tried flashing several different ones before. I'm going to try it again because I'm really desperate.
Explanation here
These are just kernels and should be what you need. Just pick whatevers closest to ur current ROM:

Appreciate the link, but I still can't get into CWM. Can you recall any ROM's with Voodoo recovery and can be installed via Odin?
the odin'able kernels from supercurio should have the red version of CWM recovery.
are you able to get into recovery at all?

Got a hold of a WIFI signal and used regular CWM.
Unfortunately, I'm getting the same result as I did before. Flash a tried-and-true modem: still not getting any signal. I have a feeling it has something to do with the EFS or something like that. I have flashed JFD, JK2, and Eugene's 'Froyo that doesn't brick' over a dozen times in the past 24 hours, but there has to be something that's lingering from each of the installs. I've formatted all the partitions as well. One of my JK2 flashes got constant RIL resets, so I'm almost certain it's a ghost of some sort from CM7 (the ROM I was using when the issue arose). I'm really, really sad :'(
did you toggle airplane or 3g on/off while on cm7?? i believe i heard of someone having a similiar problem because they did that and then flashed another rom. will look for the thread.
EDIT: When you flashed CM7 for the first time, did you do the efsbackup.zip step? taken from the CM7 faq on their forums
If you don't backup efs, after booting CM7 you won't be able to get any cell service.

Tired of edge speeds, want to lock in 3g? Okay this next one, do at your own risk ask usual, use with caution. I kinda figured this one out on my own, through trial and error, so I’m not sure how stable or accurate, or even how safe it is to do this. I did notice though, if you screw up, you can use the factory reset code above and things should go back to factory defaults.
Okay…so again do at your own risk. Also by locking into 3g speeds, if you ever go into a non 3g area, or if your 3g signal is poor in your area, then your phone calls will drop and data will stop, unless you go back and set the phone to its default automatic gsm/cdma settings.
Dial: *#*#197328640#*#*
Click [1] debug screen
Click [8] phone control
Click [7] network control
Click [2] band selection
This is where you make a change, default setting is [1] automatic, which means it chooses automatically between gsm/cdma (Edge vs 3g). So we are going to change this and set it to wcdma band which is 3g.
Click [2] wcdma band
Click [1] wcdma all []
Now it should display “select wcdma all bands [*]"
Now on the bottom of your phone, click the menu key, it’s the one next to the home key, now click back, menu again one more time, back one more time, this is just to confirm it set to number 2 wcdma band.
Now click menu key one last time, click end.. and you are done. Now to double verify that the phone is locked into 3g, dial in: *#*#4636#*#*
Then click phone information Then scroll down to “set preferred network type” It should now have listed “wcdma only.” PS, if you tried to do a shortcut, and just set wcdma this way first without doing the lock above, it would just go back to gsm/cdma auto once you exit the screen.
Your phone should now be locked into 3g.

The link provided should be all you need really. The first set is CWM flashable .zips' the second set should be what ur looking for to ODIN. Just look at your Baseband version and choose whatever ur closest to. For example I'm running Malice 2.3.1 which has a stock Baseband version of "T959UVKB5 so for me I would choose the "KB1+Voodoo" link under: ".tar you can flash with Odin or SGS Kernel Flasher" and flash using ODIN. Hope this helps. Good luck!
If all else fails:
- ODIN to stock
- Root
- install CWM recovery
- Flash custom ROMs
My sim card was in backwards once check that just in case.
So if you guys didn't notice I posted right above you.

Yup, followed all the steps, although you don't really need to back it up, it's just good technique that Cyanogen is trying to popularize.

LOL. I'm fairly confident that it's in correctly. Didn't expect to see this suggestion though. Just FYI, I tried 2 different SIM cards, both verified to work on other phones.
Thanks for all the suggestions, but none of them work. Like I said, I'm fairly sure this has something to do with the EFS or something modem-related that has gone corrupt.
CM7 was working perfectly fine, then I woke up one morning and looked at my phone and the signal was out. It was fine the night before, but something must have happened. I looked on my AT&T account and it received it's last bit of data around 8AM and I woke up around 1PM so sometime in between then, something went wrong. It's been a great phone since August. I've gone through pretty much every TW ROM since, but it looks like this is the end of my run with Android. I'm really busy with Finals and don't really have time to learn about EFS and RIL.
I wish I had a warranty, but it's a T-Mobile phone and I'm on AT&T and neither of them look too kindly upon each other.

No. I got it on Craigslist and I'm an AT&T subscriber. I planned on paying $350 (a steal of a price last August) and getting a top-end phone this August (my actual upgrade period) and selling it for >$500 to recoup my losses.
Damn that sux bro! Did you try Hard reset?
- Hold volume down + Press power
- Clear Storage
I dunno dude messing with the radio scares me personally. Good luck!

So yesterday i bought a vibrant on craigslist (stupid) checked it out for a while and everything worked perfect.... after paying and going our ways i went to make a call but it just said dialing for about a minute then hung up, then i went to send a txt and the sending failed. It says it has a full signal and it says 3g/edge (internet wont work either). i found if i restart the phone or turn airplane mode on/off i can place a call or send a txt or two before it starts failing again.
Its on 2.1update1, baseband t959uvjfd, kernel 2.6.29.... Any ideas on how to fix or am i screwed???
Well, that's a stock rom so either he never flashed anything or reverted back to the stock rom when he started having problems. I don't have any definate answers, but all I can suggest is to try flashing a new modem and/or rom and see if that fixes it. Realistically you're not under warranty, so you've got nothing to lose.
The sticky at the top of this thread can help direct you on how to do it.
Okay ill try a new rom and see if that helps. Any suggestions on a good one? also when i hit check for an update it says no firmware dont know if that helps anything or not.

Nope, there's no official updates past what you're running. I personally use Eugene373's Ginger Clone R2. Runs very smooth. Everything's about personal preference though
I suggest using odin to see if it fixes the problem.

Well the rom should have included a different modem, so I doubt that will help. Sounding more and more like a hardware issue unfortunately

Well.....I guess what I would do is hold out for a day or two to see if you get in additional (hopefully better) help. If nothing comes along, call T-Mobile and try to talk them into a replacement.
Hmm.... so i was playing around with settings and it seems that when i put it to gsm only network mode everything works its just on edge... its been 15 min so far and its still working. If i switch it back to use both or wcdma only it stops working again. Any thoughts?
Been a couple days and ive tried a couple different roms/modems and it will still only work in gsm only mode. Any thoughts or does it sound like a hardware problem?
I've had this problem when there is a network outage. Did you ever have good 3g in your area?
The weirdest thing is when I'm traveling, and 3g drops off, it auto switches to gsm no problem. If I'm at home and there is a 3g network issue it will not auto switch, but I switch to gsm only and edge works fine.
I've had that issue on two vibrants now. And luckily, it can be fixed but you need to odin to fix it.
First, make a back up of your efs partition (using a computer is easiest, adb pull /efs). This will make a backup of the files needed to do any future unlocking.
Next, odin to jfd. With reparation checked as well as "clear phone efs". Then, you won't have that issue (at least for quite a while).
"if you amplify everything, nothing is heard"
Follow this exactly to get back to stock 2.1, this will reset your baseband, kernel, modem and you'll have a functioning phone:
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
Then you can root your phone and download a new rom!
No theres no outage my hd2 gets 3g perfectly fine... and i tried to odin jfd and all that but still only works when on edge only...

/efs is your radio control partition. And every once in a while, stuff gets messed up there and you need to clear (reset) it using odin. The only thing is, if you don't make a backup of it, you'll lose your unlock code.

You have the correct plan on this line? Long shot but might help. Regardless of warranty I would flash it to bone stock and call t mobile and see what they can do. Maybe they can boost the signal or send a new sim. Could be that simple.

So lately I have been having really really bad connection speeds. I decided to change my ROM to synergy's newest which also happens to display 1X/3G. It wasn't until I flashed this ROM that I noticed I was not connecting to 3G no matter where I went. I updated the profile/PRL and still nothing. 4G and WiFi works fine, but I just can't get 3G. Is there a fix for this or do I have to send my phone back? Internet is pretty much unusable at this point unless I am on 4G or WiFi.
There was a guy in the viperROM thread that said after flashing a theme I made that showed 3g/1x, his phone wouldn't switch to 3g...turns out his phone's settings were screwed up...here's one of his posts....

I had to mess around with doing hands free activation and stuff but I managed to fix it without calling Sprint ha. Now my speed is super fast which is awesome because the whole time I thought it was Sprint getting to overloaded. Thank you so much for all your help on this and I reflashed the new updated theme with 3g/1x again and it works great.

This has happened to me as well on two different roms. 3G just goes away. Rebooting a few times seems to get it back working for me. It does suck. I think it might be related to the weak ass signal and all the roaming the phone does at times.

Not exagerating, I spent my whole Sunday getting out of this same mess! I don't know if it was that superwipe floating around or what, but I lost everything, data and voice. I of course tried all the tricks and it would not even go through the reprovision process. My radio was still showing the latest, but nothing! I said screw it and RUU back to stock but still being S-OFF. Everything works! So I threw back on my recovery and superuser and all is well. Have no idea what caused it, but just to eliminate one possibility I won't use superwipe anymore, not saying that was the cause, but TW recovery does fine by itself in my opinion. Might want to give it a shot if all else fails!
So, I've been jumping back and forth between Atrix CM9 and CM7 roms and running the .36p radio. Yesterday on CM9, i started getting a large amounts of random reboots and finally got things settled by doing a factory reset in CWM and flashing a clean cm9 rom. However, whenever I turned on wifi, the phone would crash and reboot to the Dual Core logo. I tried flashing another CM9 rom and it didn't crash, but the wifi radio would never seem to pick up any AP's (i'm at home).
I've gone as far as changing to the .37p radio and going back to cm7 to no avail... I'm a bit worried I might have "fried" the wifi radio on the phone.
Did you do a full wipe? Use fastboot to wipe properly before flashing any ROM. Plenty of threads with instructions.

Looking at the fast boot command, I'm not sure how that does anything different then the clockwork mod wipe... but I will give it a shot.

Sorry, but your wifi/bluetooth card is dead. My Atrix got the exact same symptoms a few days ago. Both WiFi and bluetooth are on the same chip. When the system tries to reference them, it fails to locate the hardware and crashes/reboots.
In fact, in researching this topic, I found dozens of threads about this. We should make a sticky about it at this point. Best Buy was kind enough to take back my phone (unlocked bootloader, rooted, cwm, custom fonts, startup, etc.) if I restored it all to stock. If you want Motorola/AT&T/the store you purchased it at to not void your warranty, you should flash the 2.3.6 SBF. Just be cautious and read all about it. But that is the only way that Motorola will service a modded phone

Nothing like the same. Clockwork wipe only does data and cache. You erase boot, system, preinstall, cache, user, webtop, etc., via fastboot. I've posted the procedure probably more than 20 times before.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Yeah unfortunately even after a fastboot wipe, the phone's bluetooth and wifi were gone. I was also over the year warranty. Luckily, I picked up a barely used one on Craigslist and restored my backup to it. Now i've got an expensive battery charger (and spare phone should i need it).
If there were any tips you'd have on restoring to a new phone? I've restored my phone a lot and worked on a lot of android phones (I work at a repair shop), but I've never restored data/settings from one phone to another. Of course its the same model, but I can only imagine the issues that could arise out of such an operation
Thanks!
I just made sure I did a fastboot full wipe of the new phone, then placed my clockworkmod directory on the internal (external should be ok too) storage and did a restore. After the restore, I re-flashed the latest version of the rom I was running on top of it with Google apps and it booted fine. Afterwards, I made sure to do a permissions repair and reboot.
Yeah, it seems like a lot of people are having this problem. Like me for example :[
So far there is no solution that I'm aware of, after trying practically everything I could think of and find on the internet... I'm pretty sure it's hardware related. I bet the phone just isn't very high quality. How much did it cost again? $600? + all of the dumb accessories for it. Normally when you see a pattern of failures you would call it a design flaw, but apparently when it comes to expensive electronics they call it out of warranty.

For anyone interested, here is a supposed solution to the problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYz_RiuFVRk
It will require you to open the phone up, and solder the "wifi battery" into place. I'm not sure what the hell that thing is, but that guy in the video called it a battery. Voids warranty etc. Good luck.

Before we start i already asked a lot of people and search countless forums for this one so please hear me out.
I'm currently using S3 with baseband model I9300DXUGNB1 with Cyanogen 11 on it.
Whenever i open up my phone it doesn't have any signal for 20secs afterwards it will search and search and eventually if i'm gonna send a SMS or make a Call signal will appear and will disappear after doing those 2.
It's kinda bugging me out since i use my phone solely for Office work( i do my reports here ) and sometimes my manager can't contact me because of this problem.
Any solution or fix is highly appreciated.

Unfortunately, the only fix for this soft-brick is to use Kies to redo the firmware, however, that requires the Samsung S/N, which on my phone can only be found by using the keypad, it is not on the sticker like others, so long story short, I had to do a warranty claim to get a new Note 3 sent out. Need to make sure I get the S/N this time though. Neither Samsung or my carrier was able to pull up the S/N with the DEC or HEX codes. Just some info for anyone else running into this issue, get your S/N before messing with it lol.
Get Oden and factory image. No S/N needed
