First of all, let me say, you all are awesome! Without you, my tablet would be so plain! I just got it this past week, and after watching videos and reading through your forums, I knew I had to try to root mine.
So, I have a question - and it may seem silly, but I've looked all through my tablet at settings and such, and I cannot find a way to fix this little problem.
I used Clockworks and I loaded Vegan version 7 as my OS. I love the Vegan, but in checking things out and personalizing it, I put some of the main icons on the bottom of my main screen. One of those main icons is the one that you touch to pull up a screen with all your apps on it. Well, somehow or another (I just can't figure out what happened) I managed to do something that caused the icon to malfunction. When you touch the app icon, instead of showing me a screen of all my apps, it shows a see-through blank screen.
I cannot figure out how to fix this so the icon will bring up a screen of my apps again. I figure the icon works as a shortcut to get to the directory of my apps, but I just cannot figure out how to fix it. I don't really know if it's something I did or if it is a glitch in the program.
Any thoughts?

Have you tried changing your launcher to something else? Maybe VT Launcher is fouled?

Thank you, but there is no launcher icon in those settings to uninstall and reinstall. I thought maybe deleting the icon that was on the screen and then reapplying the icon to the desktop would help, but it didn't - I still just get a blank screen with no program apps showing.
I appreciate you responding. I'm still stuck with the problem, if anybody else wants to give it a try.
Do you think maybe I should just reinstall the VEgan program? Will my apps still be there when I do that?

You've probably created a blank 'catalog'.
The App drawer allows you to create catalogs of different apps (so you can organize your app drawer, etc).
After opening your App Drawer, press menu and see if you don't have some options regarding catalogs.

I have rooted my nook tablet. Using a honeycomb launcher
by syndicate apps. Now my problem is I can't place shortcuts in
my home screen. I've been trying to get anycut to work but after
making a shortcut newshortcut > activity > android keyboard debug
nothing shows up (Im trying to change the keyboard)
I've tried searching for a solution here but haven't found one. Anyone
found a way to solve this?
Have you tried unchecking and rechecking both USB debugging boxes? Occasionally that messes up the functionality of apps that require root to function (think Anycut does). What you're doing should work.
I did that and still nothing
Have you tried a power cycle? Worked for me.

The first time I tried Anycut, I was using ADW Launcher and the shortcuts wouldn't appear on its home screen. Then I happened to go into Go Launcher which was installed but I wasn't really using at the time, and there were the shortcuts I had created. I have since switched to Go Launcher as my only launcher and the shortcuts appear every time. Just a thought, but maybe try having Go Launcher installed at least next time you try Anycut & see if they show up there. Worked for me.

I'm running into the same problem as BryanSo. I've tried all the aformentioned suggestions and I still can't make shortcuts or folders. When I try, the word "Honeycomb Launcher" in a box shows up on the top of the screen and disappears a few seconds later.
Sounds like a problem with honeycomb launcher. Did you guys try GoLauncher like 150pilot suggested?
When you install any alternate launcher, it should bring back the option to switch to it with the n key- so you can always try it, and then uninstall it and reset your default.
Same happens to me. Alrite ill give go launcher a try
Got it to work it was a problem with the launcher thanks
I am having this same problem with Honeycomb Launcher. I will try Go Launcher...
First, I'd like to say a huge thanks to the developers on XDA for everything you've done for my wife's new Nook Tablet and my old HTC Hero CDMA that's now running ICS (you rock jaybob)! You guys are all awesome!
On to my problems...
First, rooted the wife's Nook Tablet, did the partial debloat (worked flawlessly Indirect, after I fixed a driver issue on my end...had to uninstall it and grab it to install the proper drivers before it installed the usb mass storage device driver, otherwise ADB wouldn't see it).
All the B&N stuff is there and using Go Launcher on the "android" side. Here's my first issue...some menus (Beautiful Widgets & Astro File Manager to name a few) and a few other random apps have white text on the menu making it essentially impossible to read what that option is. I played around a little with the Go Launcher settings, but can't find anything to darken the text. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Second, wife doesn't like the stock android keyboard because each letter you press the preview of that character pops up right above it. I know it's a throwback to when you had small screens and it's just a confirmation of the letter your pressing, but she finds it very distracting (I don't even notice it! heh heh) Tried installing other keyboards but since there's no way to go to the stock android settings (only goes to nook settings), I can't enable the keyboards. I tried going to the nook hidden settings and selecting a new keyboard from there, but only the "android keyboard" shows up, not the other couple I tried installing.
Last, is there any way to bring up the stock android settings options?
Swore I'd never say this to keep like sounding like a noob instead of just a lurker, but I looked around the forums and didn't see any questions that addressed my "problems" ...so if there are answers to these somewhere, a link would be appreciated.
I have the feeling these are issues that can't be fixed until get access to the bootloader/recovery and get the ability to cook custom ROMs.
Thanks in advance for the help!

The stock android settings menu doesn't exist. Try using the Hidden Settings app to get to the most common settings.
Ahh...that explains it...was looking in the wrong forum! lol I think I was searching my HTC Hero forum since that's where I default to. The keyboard fix worked. Gonna try the menu thing later after I finish reading all the posts.
Does anyone know how to restore the Library Icon to the Apps Manager? It was there at one time, but now it's gone and I can't figure how to get a link to my Library back on my main screen. BTW, I'm using Go Launcher. I thought maybe I could hold down and select shortcut on the main screen, but when I try to create a shortcut, all I get is a blank screen that lets me do nothing.

You should add to Home Screen using Application instead of Shortcut. Alternatively, you can access the App drawer, and long press on the Library Icon, then drag to bottom of the screen, and then drag to whichever home screen you want to add the Icon to. If the Icon doesn't appear in the app drawer, you may have to reinstall the app. If that is the case, let me know and I can try to post up the Library APK.
It's not appearing in the app drawer and I'm sure it used to be there. I also checked to make sure it wasn't hidden. I went into the system/app folder and found the library.apk there and reinstalled it. It still doesn't appear in the app drawer. I guess it's no big deal, I can always hit the N and bring up the library there.
It's really not as big a deal as the default reader that goes back to the cover every time I go back to a book I'm reading.
I noticed the same thing with the disappearing icons after the update to 1.4.1. I'm currently un-rooted, but using Go Launcher. I sideload apps usding adb through my computer.
My family has three NT's. I noticed that after taking the 1.4.1 update that several of the icon pictures were changed from the BN default to some generic android icon. I can't remember all of them, but they were the ones you see when you press your N button. Like the Library, Web Browser, and Shop. One one of my tablets I just replaced the icon image with something better looking using Go Launcher's replace. On another tablet my daughter accidently deleted the Web icon. When I went to get it back, that's when I noticed the same thing as you. That those icons were no longer in the app drawer so that I could add them on the desktop. They were definitely there before the update. In fact, one of my tablets I've kept from taking the update and they are definitely there. I goofed around and searched all I could in ES File Explorer, but couldn't find where they went on the tablets with the update. I did find the APK files, like you, but didn't reinstall to see what would happen.
Like you said, not a big deal since you can still get there from the N button, but some of the icons I like on the desktop. We ended up deleting all of the icons on my daughters tablet that you find on the N button, but there is no way to get them back unlesss someone here can enlighten this noob.
So twice now my icons disappeared on me. The only programs I can access will be the ones listed in the recently open list. I have to reboot to get the icons back.
Anyone else getting this? Also, I don't think I am doing much of anything but switching between apps. Thanks.
Little more info please?

I got this too last night
a lot of times when an app automatically updates, it removes the icon. looks at the icon that disappeared and see if it was automatically updated in the market.
Every icon installed and apps/games, widgets. I mean everything disappears. You can't even swipe left or right to get to your other desktop. The only things you can access are the home (which really doesn't do anything because you are already home), recently opened apps, and the back (which again will not do anything). Settings work too but that's it. To get everything back, you will need to reboot.
Icons also going invisible
Add me to the group of people who lose all their icons. This happens to me several times a day. The icons are still there just invisible. If i touch the right spot I can launch things as normal. I can also change the background if I touch an empty area. But every single icon is gone and the entire background is displayed. Also the app button which I can touch and launch if I pick the right spot simply brings up a blank black background again with no apps/icons.
I do have the video issues on occasion where certain games blink/flash and lock up, but usually don't do this if I restart the tablet and run the game first thing. Also have the random occasional screen tearing especially when using a live background.
I'm looking forward to the February update and hope this fixes the issue. I'd reset the icon cache if I knew how but I'm not sure that's the issue. If anyone has ideas let me know.
Thanks
Possible cause?
Hi guys,
I didn't have this issue after upgrading to 4.0.3, but then sometime last week I did start having the same issue with the stock launcher "crashing" (well, it was still running, but in brain-dead mode where it won't display icons or widgets).
I started un-installing stuff and after about 4 hours of messing around I noticed that the launcher didn't crash when I had disabled "cool tool". (This is a really cool floating CPU graph.) Cool tool _seemed_ to work fine on my prime, and I had it floating over the status/button bar. But apparently it was, after running for a couple hours, causing openGLRenderer to run out of memory which caused the launcher to freak out.
At least that's my take on what was happening. Anyway, I'm using SeePU now, and I haven't had a launcher "crash" in a couple days. Maybe this isn't your problem, but I used "System Info Pro" (or something like that) to view the android log. Might help in troubleshooting? If this IS the root cause, I guess somebody should tell the developer...
Getting this thing loaded with apps & widgets AND staying stable and fast has been a challenge to say the least. But a fun one. I think?!

Same bug here. It happened to me a couple of time. I reported it to Asus Canada yesterday... But no news yet.
It looks like the "foreground" become transparent/invisible. The System bar still works. For me, I can even click on the invisible icons to start the apps.
The only work-around I found is to reboot my device.
I experienced the bug once more this morning. I tought it was related to "force GPU rendering", I had it enabled and since I disabled it, most of my bugs are gone.
But this morning again, the foreground became "transparent" and I was only seeing the background.
BTW, you could rename the thread: "Icons disappearing/transparent desktop".
Also, does version .13 fix this?
Same problem here.
Problem occus now a few times a day. All Icons/Widgets and app drawer icon are invisible but still clickable! Only a restart solves the problem or going to settings->apps->force close for the homescreen-app will solve it for some time.
Any Ideas or a statement from ASUS?

I reported the problem to Asus.
You should do the same, if it's not already done.
I have seen this 3 times in day or so...any one had any update on cause or fix other than reboot
Same here
Add me to the list as well... all icons go transparent ... only see the background ... can tap "invisible" icons and they work ...
I confirm it is still present in WW .15.
Sometime a "force close" of the Launcher is enough, but other time it happens again and again, only a reboot fix it (for a while). Beside this (annoying) bug, I consider my Prime very stable. Gmail sometimes crash, but it seems to be fixed (or less prominent in .15).
Asus Tech. Support suggested me to do a factory reset... Haven't tried it yet. I may also try an alternate Launcher (Trebuchet...) to see if it's only related to the Launcher or the system.
PS: Don't forget to report it to Asus Tech. Support.
I saw this for the first time today on the non-Prime TF101. I upgraded to the FOTA ICS update a couple of weeks ago (for which I've observed the same occasional resets as others) but this is the first time I've had this app problem.
Different desktops can be accessed, but they're all blank. Apps can be run from their invisible icons. The top-right app menu also has invisible apps which can be run.
I have a small (2.5MB 30s) video, if I manage to upload it.
I had a similar thing again since, but this time the icons returned when moving between desktops. I think the common thing I was doing was grouping apps together into single composite icons.
I'm not 100% sure, but since I cleaned up my home screens it does not happen anymore. I removed all my widgets except for gmail and calendar. And all my stuff is on one screen (thanks to folders).
You may try this too to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks. My screens were almost completely full. But I never saw this issue until I started using folders!
I got it the other day for the first time.
I had just downloaded Simplistic Text.
Rebooted, everything was fine--just assumed it had something to do with some file cleanup or something that didn't get done after the download.
Ah, and fyi, I'm running Honeycomb on the Japanese build. (They still haven't given us the damned ICS yet over here.)
All the icons disappearing used to happen to me a couple of times a day, with only a reboot fixing the issue.
Whilst trying to fix a constantly crashing GMail I removed the Beautiful Widgets home screen weather/clock widget and this amazingly fixed the disappearing icons and hasn't happened since. One down only another 101 bugs left to fix!
Hope this helps someone.
Rooted nook on cm 7, after I started using it today, I lost my status bar and soft buttons. I did not go into settings and change anything. Any direction towards some help on adw launcher would be appreciated.
Thanks
Try reboot? I have lost my launcher a few times. My status bar once or twice. A reboot always fixes it. Not exactly sure yet what has caused it. If it happens again, get a logcat or dmesg and post it up for the cm7 team to check out.

try doing the obvious thing first and reboot? i had that problem with beautiful widgets and a reinstall of that app solved the problem. did u restore adw with titanium backup? if u did try reinstalling adw.
The status bar disappearing I believe is a CM7 issue in and of itself. I run CM7 on my phone and it has happened on the phone more than the NT.
Thanks for the responses. A reboot has brought everything back as it was. Enjoying my CM7 tablet and the support on this forum!
Did it force close, or did it just disappear with no error or warning?
If no error, it could have just been hidden.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
I'm sure the regular version of ADW has this too but I have the paid version to go off of. You can set gestures to show/hide the "DockBar" and/or "StatusBar". Regardless of wether it was a gesture or a glitch you may want to try this if it happens again:
Long press on a blank space on the home screen.
Select "Launcher Actions" from the menu.
Select which ever you need: "Show/hide statusbar" or "Open/close DockBar"
Then just press the new icon on the home screen to restore the statusbar or dock.
Personally, my status bar disappeared without error. Nothing I did would get it to restart other than a quick reboot. Which I am accustomed to anyhow so it's not really a big deal to me. As for the launcher disappearing, it happened. No error. Reset/restart ADW does nothing. Again, this has happened on my NT, my phone, and a coworkers HD2 phone running cm7 as well. It's basically something that I (and her as well) have just learned to live with. Restarting is quick enough to bring everything back to life.
I've got the paid version on four devices (Two NT's, a HD2 and a G2) and have never seen this. Perhaps it's an intentional limitation in the free version... Just kidding. I'd send the author an email about it. Try the widgets I suggested, I'm curious to know if they work to remedy this. Also check that "Gestures" isn't turned on and configured in the Setting (if that's even in the free version).
