[Q] Wifi tether on LG Thrive - Optimus One, P500, V General

I just got a LG thrive, Im using my post-paid sim card from a Inspire 4G in it. Im trying to get the wifi tether working. I tried using quick setting but it crashes the phone. I tried using the hot spot widget but it also crashes the phone. I also tried using a modified apn from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980591 it worked on my Inspire 4G, but it either says "There is a temporary network problem that prevents the enablement of mobile hotspots" or " Authentication was unsuccessful. To enable mobile hotspot on this device go to att.com/mywireless" I have been searching and trying to figure out this problem all afternoon. On th stores demo thrive I was able to get it working after two minutes and only one crash. I have already installed pdanet, not sure how well it works on this phone since I have yet to test it, but i would really like to get the wifi tether working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Someone has to know something...

Anyone working on getting it to work for LG-P506 (LG Thrive)? Or know of any methods to get it to act as a wireless hotspot? I've tried Quick Settings and it restarts the phone but haven't tried Easy Tether yet because I don't even know if it enables shared WiFi and uses a USB connection to share it.

I was able to down load easy tether from the market place when I took the sim out and went to the market on wifi. It wouldn't let me do it with the sim in. I haven't actually used the app yet because I usually use my iPad or galaxy and rarely use the laptop anymore. But it did work with the backflip and that phone is big time locked down.

USB tethering: Authentication was unsuccessful
I have the same problem. LG thrive says:
Authentication was unsuccessful
There is a temporary network problem that prevents the enblement of the Mobile hotspot function. Please retry later.
and it is the same error for USB tethering or portable Wifi hotspot
Have anybody solved this? Any sugestions?

[Q] Wifi Tethering with a Stock SGS2 on AT&T

I tried to setup tethering over Wifi to share my AT&T connection with my wife but every time I try to enable "Portable WI-Fi hotspot I receive an error.
My SGS2 is stock and I have AT&T.
I read several threads of other devices and saw that people where saying you need root access and install Android Tethering but when I look for that app I can't find it.
I also found some other free tethering app called EasyWifitether but that one doesnt work either.
You think AT&T is able to block the tethering somehow? Even when this SGS2 is completely stock?
I didn't try USB tethering yet but would like to get Wifi tethering working.
What's the error you're getting and is it on your phone or the computer? I had a couple of issues when I had security enabled of the Portable Hotspot.
ATT shouldn't be able to detect it when it hasn't even been used. They can see the increased data being used and can probably suss it's tethering when it is in use though.

I was able to get it working under VillainRom without any issues.
The error I received? it didn't popup anything it just said Error under the checkmark to enable tethering.

Do you have ATT Tethering Plan or you just turn on the portable hotspot?
Thanks for reply
I just tried it and it worked fine (with WPA security enabled). I'm on the dumb-phone unlimited data plan.
some network providers block this option when they send out the phone

[Q] Free Tether For TB?

Is anyone currently using a free tether app for a Rooted TB?
This is what you want to use:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Download the latest. I have found this to be the best app for the job.
Roger that! I will give it a shot.
Seems to work great! I should only use this app alone and not the hotspot widget, right?
Yup thats all you need for tethering freedom
F...king Whoa!!! Makes rooting worth it.
Does this still work for anyone?
I was using both the built in portable hotspot in CM7 and occasionally the WiFi Tether app on my Thunderbolt and everything was fine until Verizon started blocking third party tethering apps *which apparently only affected Gingerbread users...

Since then when I tried to connect to the WiFi hotspot from my laptop it would just hang while connecting, it would eventually give an error -something along the lines of: "unable to obtain an IP address" and if it ever did connect it would say connected with no internet access. The only app that would work for me was Barnacle WiFi Tether, and I'm still using it with no problems, just wish there were more options, and I'm scared it will get blocked soon too. I'm loving LTE, and with an unlimited plan at $29 a month it's just begging to be shared with my laptop.

The built-in wifi hotspot in CM7 works fine so I haven't found the need to try the wifi tether app linked above lately. If you'd clicked the "wireless tether" tag in the article you linked you would have seen some suggestions and statements that it works fine.

The CM7 tether can be a little buggy and give out after a while. Android tether has always worked the best for me.
Verizon can't block tethering apps on your phone, they can only get Google to remove them from the market (which they have) - though there is still a couple like barnacle floating around in the market.

Only downside is that if you abuse it (maybe 30+GB month) you're at risk of getting your data transfer rate slowed down. But the next month as long as you didn't use a lot the previous month it'll go back up.
Thanks for the info !
Another option for USB tethering would be PDANet. I use that for tethering my Mac
installed wifi-tether 3 beta2 (latest from google) to my rooted Thunderbolt stock ROM
I start wifi tether, computer connects, but when I open the browser it never loads a page
Use 2.0.7
Via my HTC Thunderbolt

[Q] Hotspot hacks?

Has anyone figured out a way to get the pre installed hotspot working? i have tried similar guides from the newer droids and older gingerbread ''hacks'' attempts have been disappointing the ip address response error comes up no matter what i try wifi tether beta and the one from the market will not show up for my xoom which makes them useless at the moment. have tried radiocomm ''hacks'' for data workarounds no luck either ugh. thanks
any luck with that?
Check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17405806#post17405806
It somehow forces the sprint hotspot to activate, which allows for infrastructure mode. Ignore any errors at start up.
While this won't make the stock app work, you can root your phone and use the Open Garden Wifi tethering app which works with 3G, 4G and is much more customizable.

[A] wifi tether or build.prop mod not working?

I have searched through this forum, and have not yet found a thread pertaining to this issue. I am not a developer, just an android enthusiast, so i do not have a clue why, but the build.prop tether tweak does not seem to be working on some evo lte devices (including mine). The tether app would show connected, but with no internet access to PCs, laptops, anything not-android it seems. I will shed some light on how I fixed this issue, to hopefully help others in this forum who were most likely just as mind boggled as I was.
I downloaded foxfi from foxfi.com/bin since Sprint took it off of the market.
However, they did not take the foxfi addon off of the market, so I downloaded that as well.
Run foxfi, go to settings, and enable proxy. Foxfi will give you a proxy IP.
Connect to the network from your PC.
(I use Firefox, so I am unable to give specific browser instructions here)
Go to advanced network settings in your browser, and change the automatic proxy to manual, and type in the IP foxfi gives.
Wa-la! Hope this helps, if anyone has any questions, I will help as best as I can!
IN ADDITION: I have tried every other possible mod/app/setting that I have found on these forums. I do not know if Sprint hotfixed the phone to change the code of tethering (like i said, not a developer), because I bought my EVO LTE the last week in June. I will again clarify for the idiots below that cannot seem to read correctly, this is for those that have tried build.prop mod and/or wifi tether with generic ICS setting, fiddling with routing/MSS options and getting "connected with limited access", "no internet connection", or "connected" but still no web browsing capability to their PCs. If I am the only one out there with this problem, it would be my luck.
Happy tethering!
Use wireless tether from the market

googles wifi tether works fine, just set it to generic ICS
Thanks guys. I was making this harder than it needed to be too. Feel like a noob.
It doesn't matter, for some people, WiFi tether on any setting does not work, sprint did something to their network, I spent hours trying to figure it out. It would connect to other android devices, but would give no net connection to PCs

[Q] No Hotspot Tether Apps Will Work On My Phone Please Help!!

No Hotspot Tether Apps Will Work On My Phone Please Help!!
I have a Galaxy S3 with AT&T. I do have the recent LTE sim card. I’m trying to share
Internet to my two macs. My S3 is rooted.
I recently installed Google Wallet. Sense I have AT&T I had to change a couple of logs in the build directory to trick my phone to think it’s a Galaxy Nexus. Could that be it? If so can I change the logs back and Google wallet still work?
I’ve had been using FoxFi for about 2 months with no problems. I never used it a whole lot to make my data stand out. I’ve used it about 8 times
No matter which hotspot tethering app I try to use my phone wont share internet. USB tether apps wont work either.
I’ve tried:
Wireless Tether – Says its sharing a hotspot but computer wont find it.
Smart Tether – Says FoxFi is working but FoxFi says the hotspot is off
ClockworkRom Tether – Says USB tethering is ready then the app on my mac tries to connect to the internet through the phone but never does, just keeps saying “Checking phone status..”
Barnacle WiFi Tether – Says “Failed to connect to supplicant: no such file or directory” “Stopped unecpectedly!”
FoxFi – When I go to activate it tries to then says “Activation faild.” – Ive been using FoxFi for about 2 months with no problems.
EasyTether – Says its ready to USB tether but mac just says my phone is not sharing Internet
PdaNet USB tether – I have the PDA net app installed on my mac like required but still does not work.. – Pda Net did work on my mac on my iPhone before switching over to android. 2 months ago.
Wrong forum, this is f for the international i9300
