Hello,
I'm using the Blayo 0.7 ROM with data2ext enabled for some time now and I nerver had any problem till now.
Yesterday my phone shutdown and I had to take off the battery and then put it back in so the phone would start.
The phone started but I lost all my configuration (wallpaper...), i thought maybe data2ext disabled itself. So I tried to enable it with adb shell but the following message appeared:
"data2ext is already enabled but not active"
I checked the mounted partitions and /data is mounted on /dev/block/mtdblock5
Everything is fine with my SD card: the FAT32 partition is still working and I can mount the ext2 partition to a TEMP folder.
I tried to disable data2ext and enable it but it didn't solve the problem.
Do you have any idea how I could correct this ?

theres a simple way to correct it: buy a new SD card
i have the same problem a few months ago... my phone crashes, all data lost. my phone doesnt read the card, my pc doesnt read the card.
The problem is that my card seam to be OK.
I still have access to the SDcard on the phone and on my computer.
The only thing is that the EXT2 partition is not mounted on /data.
But i can access that partition...
maybe wipe ur phone and try it again....?
You should manually fsck that ext2 partition.

Yeah directly. Just use e2fsck via adb shell or some term app. Google it if you don't know how to use it.

I found fsck.ext2 on your ROM. It corrected some Errors on the partition and now it WORKS !

did you mean type e2fsck in adb shell? any options or arguments needed????
type "e2fsck --help" to find out which arguments you need. And of course google it.

I am new here and did my best searching but couldn;t find a conclusive answer so i just need some suggestions about a way forward.
So far using Froyo's move to SD implementation I have managed to gain some space on the phone for more apps but i am still running out. I also have to use the slow Apps 2 SD application.
So my problem is I want more space for apps. Using adb, setting the install location to SD card helps provide some more but i have hit that limit too.
So, from what i've read so far, there is another symbolic link based method, that creates a partition on the SD card and then the phone appears to think its still on the phone.
I have a stock ROM and would prefer not having a custom ROM for now. What would be the suggested way of getting Apps2sdext functionality? I mean like installing a package after rooting.
I have read about rooting, and apps2sdext also seems to need root. But i'd really appreciate if somebody could drop some links as to what I could do. Here are my thoughts of what they might be:
Root phone
Format SD card with partitions
Install a2sd
Another question: is there no way of using Gparted, etc to resize partitions and create the ext4 partition on pc? As in before taking it to the phone? that way no need to reinstall some apps.
Ok so for now I see I can use Z4Root to root my phone. So i've sorted that part out.
I also saw on DarkTremor apps2sd page that stock roms need a custom init.rc. Where are the instructions for that?

I'm not quite sure. I'm not an A2SD user. But, here are my hunches/ideas/opinions:
I suggest you partition with the partitioner in the recovery image. A2SD may have trouble finding the ext partition when the layout is quite different from what it expects, though I'm not quite sure.
As for not having to reinstall apps, this is what I did prior to installing A2SD:
Move all apps to phone memory
Backup
Partition SD
Flash A2SD
Install A2SD (yes, I had to manually launch a2sd scripts --')
Done
Works as intended, but I've found that there wasn't a significant increase in free phone memory storage, but I'm very sure a2sd was applied.
So I went back to native A2SD.
Which leads me to say: I suggest flashing a custom ROM with A2SD integrated
Idk, maybe I just didn't give A2SD some time. Just try it out.

Ok so far I installed, z4root and it installs fine and does the whole root and restart thing.
Now when i browse from adb shell i still get the $ prompt and not the # prompt. But when i go into z4root it provides options for re-root and un-root...
UPDATE: well i found out that once the shell opens as $, you type su. When you do that look at your phone and accept the superuser request, otherwise permission denied appears on the pc screen. now i have the # prompt!!!
UPDATE: Got Clockworkmod running now! and exploring a2sd... i give up. cannot find a concise thing that says here's the script that you use after doing the clockworkmod. what do i do???
Hi,I came from megatron rom and is using CM7 rom now.Not sure partitioning of sd card work on stock rom but you can try.
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your phone! Below is what I did.
Instructions: Download DarkTremor Apps2sd.zip file.
Then,Backup all your sd card contents on your PC.You MUST backup as partitioning of sd card will wipe the whole sd card.
Reboot in recovery and select partition sd card > Partition sd card again> Swap Size:Choose 0 (I'm not sure what the other numbers will do.) > Then 512mb for the next option.Then it will start partitioning. > After you're done,upgrade ext.2 to ext.3 > Then upgrade ext.3 to ext.4 > After that,connect usb or take out sd card and put DarkTremor apps2sd.zip file in the root of your sd card and then flash it!
DONE AND PROFIT!
Your internal storage should decrease very slowly because your apps are now 'tricked' into being installed on your sd card Hope this helps!

So you did my method or what?
Nope actually not. Found a simpler method that's easier for noobs.
So here goes in very short since I don't have links
1. Split memory card into two partitions. I used 1GB. I did the partitioning on Ubuntu as it was much easier to just resize the partition using gparted. I am not sure what file systems are supported for the apps but i used ext3 for the 1GB. Backup should not be necessary but you are welcome to be careful
2. Root phone with z4root, very straightforward process
3. Install Link2SD from Android Market.
4. Once its installed, it'll prob ask for root permissions. Grant them.
5. Open Link2SD and in the list, one by one for each app you'd like to move, select and it opens a page with some details. Just click on create link, and in the next page an option for moving cache also shows. Select that too. Then the app gets moved in the background and slowly your space starts increasing.
6. I did not move any preinstalled apps that came with the phone. Just moving the apps I installed gave me plenty of space not to worry with App 2 SD (froyo method) or anything. Also with this method, mounting for USB Mass Storage also gets quicker.

Always do a nandroid backup! I didn't as i didn't think much of an app.. my phone went into continued android logo loop. After several tries of battery pull,I managed to get into the phone but many of my apps went missing.. sighz...

You mean the backup option that is there in clockwork mod recovery menu right? I screwed up the files once and the backup came in real handy!

It may not help you but I was using megatron rom froyo 2.2 and had barley any memory space on my phone and since I flashed CM7 rom from milk I have tons of space I have twice as many as many apps and stol 100 megabits left

Just curious, on a scale of 10 how hard is it to get cm7 onto your optimistic? And any clue whether existing settings are lost? Any other benefits? And features missing? It would be nice if we either got more battery life or better performance if not both

I use a stock ROM (2.2.1) and I have rooted and installed "Move2SD Enabler" from the market and moved all the apps to SD (except for widgets) in the plain simple old fashion. I currently have over 150 apps installed with about 90MBytes of internal memory free.
There is a sizable thread over i9003 forum about editing vold.fstab to swap internal with external sd. I guess they were more desperate as i9003 comes with very small internal storage. But even our "16GB" isn't enough for many of us.
I'm on 2.3.5, and I've tried editing the file using vim, and have failed miserably each and every time.
Unfortunately, the fstab file for i9003 differs quite a bit from the one for i9100. Here are what I've noticed:
i9003:
mount_deep
mbr_policy
i9100:
format_option
otg subsection
They also have different sysfs path and mount point.
Any knowledgeable person/people wanna jump in and make the magic happen?

For instance I applied the idea from ownwhere (here) but in the most simple way just to test it.
I tested it with the gameloft dir.
So first I moved /sdcard/gameloft/ to /sdcard/external_sd/gameloft/
Then I created back an empty folder /sdcard/gameloft/
and then I mounted the external_sd/gameloft dir in it with :
mount --bind /sdcard/external_sd/gameloft/ /sdcard/gameloft/
I used Script Manager free version from market to run this script at boot time (added a baaad sleep 60 at the top of it to wait for the system to finish the storages checks).
And this works for me. It will help me to wait for a true external_sd / internal_storage swap mod...
I hope it will also help other people here in the same way as it did for me

Yes I need to do this if i want to use usb storage on desktop computer with the default system option.
But you can use apps like multi mount sd-card lite (free on market) to mount sd-card(s) on desktop computers and keep them mounted on the phone (read-only).
This way I didn't get any mounting problems but I didn't test very much so perhaps this can lead to mounting errors later on.
Maybe you have already tried this ?

Hi folks,
As you know, the Sony media and video player didn't show the mp3 and videos on the external SD card in his library.
Now my idea was to mount folders of the external sdcard into folders on the internal sdcard.
Solution:
I created a script for mounting photo, video and music folders from ext. sdcard to the corresponding folders on the int. sdcard. After successful tests, I implemented init.d support on my Tablet S for a 'autostart' solution at boot time and moved the script to 'init.d' folder. For me it works great and fulfilled my requirements 100%.
Enclosed the content of my 'automount' script:
#!/system/bin/sh
# need sleep 75 for right timing maybe you can reduce it to 30
sleep 75
mount -o bind /mnt/sdcard2/Music /mnt/sdcard/Music
mount -o bind /mnt/sdcard2/Video /mnt/sdcard/VIDEO

P.S.: If it do not work for you, try to increase the sleep value. If you have a 'fresh' system 30 should be enough ... if you use two or three widgets 'sleep 75' could be ok ... and so on ...

Changed that line in true, rebooted.
Openend up Poweramp and this had to scan my folders again.
Sd Card still there and working but nothing more I think.
Can't really see if there's anything changed.
I tried:
Removing nosdcard from ro.build.characteristics
Changing ro.external.storage.removable to true
Changing ro.separated.external.storage to false
I haven't been able to see any difference.
Things I looked at:
The stock video player won't recognize videos on my SD card.
Videos on SD card will play if I navigate to them using Root Explorer
I can move apps to SD card using Titanium Backup, and play them from the SD card.
Anyone have some tips on what else I can look for?

you will mount the external card into the internal, but step by step:
1. create a new folder /external_sd under /mnt/scard/
e.g. with adb shell : mkdir -p /mnt/sdcard/external_sd
2. then mount the /mnt/sdcard2 to this folder
e.g. with adb shell: mount -o bind /mnt/sdcard2 /mnt/sdcard/external_sd
3. now it is done and if you now refresh your media library, you will find all your media stuff on your media player.
Unfortunately you have to do the same after a reboot or switch off/on.
I am a little bit afraid to add this command line in init.rc or something else.

If you want app data to be moved to external sd Link2Sd works but with a few extra steps only. Here is how I manage this on mine.
Installed Link2SD on tablet.
Formatted external card (in my case a 32GB microsd in an SD adapter) on my laptop using EASEUS to have to PRIMARY partitions 1st in FAT32 and second in EXT3 formats.
At first Link2SD does not recognise any ext partition present and if I try to recreate mounting script on it telling it EXT3 format it says something like could not do, directory does not exist or similar.
Then after a reboot Link2sd warning pops up saying the sd card was not mounted at boot and therefore the system did not load apps on it. You have an option to recreate a mounting script (which I did not need to do as did it already previously) and the quick reboot option (which is different from the regular reboot in the way that it only restarts the android interface not the whole hardware) - so I do this reboot and after everything starts you can see the extra partition and use it.
So currently quick reboot is needed after every total shutdown of the tablet - thankfully I almost never shut down the tablet completely unless run out of battery completely or some other rare reason or testing like this one.
Also note that quick reboot sometimes gives a close/wait warning just after it is done - I always chose wait and everything seemed ok after that.
Make sure you give Link2sd superuser permission. I decided to leave out Lib out of the app data I link because I noticed that if I move data back to internal storage link2SD shows that libs are unlinked already/ I know there is an option in link2sd to relink libs at boot but I was not able to confirm if it works and they tend to take little space internally anyway.
Regarding extra partition size I tried less than 1GB and ca 14Gb. With bigger than 1GB partition it seems to recognise its size in link2sd but once you move more than 1gb data to it does not reflect the increase above 1gb but still seems to make the apps I moved before and after that work still.
I wonder if multi mount widget could help when combined with link2SD somehow. My guess best solution would be to make android mount external card early in its boot.

I tried today several things to get a "autostart" solution but unfortunately without success:
- App "autostart (root)" don't work on Tablet S
- Change in svold.fstab need sd card eject and insert to be mounted after rboot
- Change in vold.fstab need sd card eject and insert to be mounted after reboot
- Add mount command in init.goldfish.sh don't work
- Startup script tweaks can't work, no "/system/bin/playlogosnow" on Tablet S

I did a little bit more investigations and find out, that after a reboot it needs a short time before the internal sd card is ready to use. Therefore it is senseless to search a solution during boot time. I guess this is the reason why the change in svold.fstab and vold.fstab didn't work.
That means we need a "autostart" App, as a Widget or a Virus scanner that mount the device and rescan the medias. Who is willing and to do that for us?
just create an init.d script and symlink the ext_sd folder to the desired folder on sdcard...
check if this device has:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
if it doesnt then check if the /init.rc (or other init.*.rc) files contain the text "install-recovery.sh"
if the text exists then just create the file /system/etc/install-recovery.sh which has the following at the top:

followed by the symlink/bind code
and save file and give it 777 permission (chmod 777 /system/etc/install-recovery.sh)
that should automatically run the desired commands at each boot...
if the above is not possible then just create a GScipt script and execute it at startup

symlink will not work - because of fat32 sdcard! We've got to use mount -o bind, it works without problem, about autorun thing - thanks - i've got to try it

I did exactly this in my tests before, with the "install-recovery.sh".
The file "/system/etc/install-recovery.sh" don't exist but the the "init.rc" files contains the text "install-recovery.sh".
So I created the file "/system/etc/install-recovery.sh" with the commands:

and give it 777 permission but unfortunately it dosen't work.
I guess the reason is the timing problem, that sdcard mount is not ready in this moment. I will try tomorrow add first the mount command for "/mnt/sdcard" in this file and will see what will happen.

a) Do you manage to link apps to external sd as in rooted gingerbread?
b) or is it just for showing external sd media in the native player in a separate subfolder or something similar
c) do you manage to swap around external and internal sds, i.e. mnt\sdcard is now external as on gingebread and mnt\sdcard2 is the built-in/internal one
I think all of the above is useful but would like to know what's the initial plan.

I can see my files are all there (on the external sd card located permanently inside the TF201) when look via the pc but recovery doesn't seem to be able to mount the internal sdcard so I cannot get at the zip files I put on the internal sdcard to flash from recovery.
I was running a very happy TF201 running Virtuous Prime until I decided to change a font a few days ago. That was a bad move. On reboot everything was stuck on the intro splash screen. I managed to get into recovery & somehow managed to get my new rom (CM10 ish) flashed & i thought all was well until I realised that in all the 'heat of battle' the usual wipe re wipe/wipe dalvick/reset privileges routine had been omitted from my routine. Worse still I had flashed the rom but not yet flashed the Jelly Bean GAPPS.
So the system was still hanging at the splash screen (although this time at least it was the CM10 splash screen (progress is so sweet) but now, just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, when I go into recovery to apply a zip from an sdcard I get told that E:Can't mount /sdcard/ so I cant get at my file to flash!
I'm 3 days into this now & I am definitely loosing the plot so please please give me a nudge in the right direction .A have adb up & running & have just fastbooted a new recovery img over onto the prime because I read that this might sort my problem. Well, it didn't so here I am. Please assume I am a noob 1st class although I may surprise you with some of my knowledge that I've picked up over the last few days & years working in systems (though not Android) so maybe I wont!
Get this sorted with me & I'll be forever in your debt. Please let me know what other information you may need to give me a push in the right direction. Thanks for reading this & thanks for deciding to help me hang on to that thread of sanity that is left.

This has sorted the problem. Thank you very much for this. Could you please tell me the significance of the 'ls' line?
I followed your instruction which resulted in my being able to flash a ROM which still hung at the intro flash screen. Since I could now see the internal file system was mounting (& accessible) I decided to attempt to replace the recovery package with TWRP which is absolutely fantastic; you are able to access both internal & external sdcards + there's a very intuitive 'touch' UI.
I was beginning to wonder if I was going to get out of this one, but, thanks to you all is well.
ls is just to ensure you are in the right directory. the next time your rom is stuck at the boot screen try to give it some more time if this doesn't work wipe the dalvik and cache via recovery and it should be able to boot if flashing was successful. and yes you are absolutly right TWRP is waaay better than CWM. Glad I was able to help you get this sorted.

I have same issue as user above. I connect my TF201 to my computer and I get Driver issues saying This device cannot start. (Code 10). I did everything restared computer, deleted drivers scan hardware changes reinstalled drivers, and everything. I can't get the adb working. I keep scanning and it says there isn't any devices.
I had a bad ROM flash and my TF201 will no longer boot. I can get it into the CWM v5.8.3.4 but it will not read my SD card. I tried 3 SD cards and none of them will read. I formatted them FAT32 from what I read and even tried FAT and NTFS just to see if that made a difference and that didn't work. WHen I click to install zip from sdcard it points to my internal storage. I created a backup but again just my luck the first time while reading on ways to fix the issue I ended up in the Asus fastboot load screen and being use to the CWM commands I hit volume down (moved cursor to the left hovering over wipe data) and hit volume up thinking it would go back to the USB symbol but that wiped all the data off the device.
I restared and booted back into CWM and selected install zip from SD card now nothing shows up since it no longer reads any internal data (accidently deleted) and it doesn't read my SD card.
So, at this point I feel I'm out of ideas. ADB doesn't work to try transfering a file directly to the device and CWM doesn't read SDcards so I can't flash a new ROM on the device to get it working again.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Why is CWM still used !!!!!
All recent bricks I've seen here were CWM related!!

Just had this issue with the bad cm10 rom. TWRP saved the day!

Use Fastboot and flash TWRP Recovery. CWM still cannot use external sd cards! There are simple instructions on their website.
TWRP will give you the option to install from either the internal sd card or external sd card. I've found it to be a better bet all round than clockwork mod recovery. It uses a touch interface which saves more time than you'd imagine. Just one tip; occasionally the contents of the external sd card don't show. If that happens, just reboot into recovery (again) & everything will be as it should be. Hope this helps.!...

Did updating recovery sort this out? If not, shout & I may be able to help.

I tried to push it already, but I can't as mentioned before.
ADB recognizes my device, open 'adb shell' but push command don't work.
push file.zip /data/media/file.zip
*file is on the same folder as adb.exe
EDIT: Resolved using EasyFlasher Tool. As described on this post.

at first i want to explain what happened to me:
i wanted to format an usb-stick on my pc, i used windows' diskpart in the cmd.
well, somehow i maid something very wrong and formated the sd-card of my sgs2, which was connected in the "usb-connection"mode. Well, it was no problem for me, the datas (music and pictures) are safed. but the smartphone don't recognize the card anymore could be because i formated it in ntfs. Well, the storages is always shown in the computer, as soon as i plug my phone in. i don't need to activate the usb-connection mode.
well i'm on a pacman rom and the following is my kernel:
Kernel_Siyah-Dorimanx-V9.1-[00-49]-[07-03]-JB-CM-AOKP-SGII-PWR-CORE
i could format the card with the pc i think, also did it as a fat32 file system, but nothing shown in the phone.
can anybody help? maybe format it with a terminal emulator or so?

Try formating sd card using a linux pc
I did same thing with a flash drive and worked

do you have had the same things as i? so that you can see the storige when the device is active and plugged in? i'll try it later in the evening with a live linux, if i can't get any other solution on windows
Let us know how you get on/if it works. Using a LiveCD & doing it could be a good solution for someone else who finds nothing works (Rather than going the whole hog & doing a full Linux install they'll never use again).
i'm not sure if linux can do more than windows. i've formated the stick 3 times now, once with the diskpart console-programm, well this time "format fs=fat32" of course, than via "computer" (rightclick, format) and here also fat32... then i tried this tool:

nothing to see in the smartphone either.
of course i've unplugged the cable before.
do you think it could help to do a flash via odin? well, for this i could need some instructions, it would be great to flash a custom rom, because i wouldn't use the stock rom.

Hmmmm. I'm not sure flashing anything in Odin would help, flashing another rom won't make any difference (Because this is kernel-side). Though I guess you could try flashing another custom kernel/reflashing the one you're using, but that would probably only be useful if there was something funky going on with CWRecovery causing your attempts to format through there to barf.
How about restoring a nandroid backup ?
To be honest, I've heard worse ideas than the Linux suggestion.

because it contains the apps and so on, and i can't have an backup because i cant flash anything in the cwrecovery (because it cant mount the /emmc)
i think something tricky is up here, otherwise i could mount it easily in the recovery menü, but no chance. i tried it with a terminal emulator with the lines:
su (so that i'm superuser) then of course i accepted the su-prompt, and then typed:
mount -o remount rw /mnt/sdcard
but something must be wrong there because of the following error:
mount: Invalid argument
when i go to settings-> storages i have the internal storage with ~2GB for apps and so on, and it shows another "internal storage", where there are 2.00B used by "other"... when i click on that i see a .defaultrom data, nothing more.
any suggestions what this means? do i have an internal storage mounted where there is a 2bytes file and nothing more free?
that "re-partition" option in odin seems to be interesting.
do you think a flash of an emmc_EXT4_16GB.pit with the "re-partition" field ticked could help me?

well but i don't just want to tell how i did it, firstly i want to tell that it wasn't such a deep thing as "sectors broken while formating" or something like that. i really don't know the reason for myself, but i fixed it without the pc. i tried to format the storage with linux, there i tried ext4 and fat32, nothing worked.
than i googled a bit with the live linux, than i found someone who had the same problems like me. Well, he wasn't finished where i was, because he got the problem again after flashing a cm 10.1, but i don't need to flash it, and i dont think i will get the problem, because i got it in a different way than he (he installed cm10.1 from an external sd, than the internal didn't showed up)
Well, i dont want to write longer, i'll tell how it worked:
go to settings -> backup and reset -> factory data reset and in the next page tick "Erase SD card"
this formats the card itselfes, so it recognizes it after all. if i could i'd have formated it in the "storage" section, but there i had no ability to do so.
