Music not loud enough - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way I can make my x10 play music a bit louder. It doesnt go as loud as Sony Ericsson used to make other cell phones for example :s
Sent from my X10a using XDA App

Use some music app with eqalizers, eg. PowerAmp

DSP Manager. It will allow you to boost the speaker volume for any music or video you watch including streams from online. Unlike PowerAmp or Mixzing which only apply the EQ to media you play through the app. DSP manager will run in the background though but its not a memory or battery hog so it doesnt really matter for me.

If I (or anyone for that matter!) help you, dont be afraid to press THANKS!

I wondered about this as well, so I asked the question in this thread
I found that the app Loud Volume Hack works great, (Even though in its description it states it does not support SE devices, it works for me!!)
Hope this helps

Here is the Loud Volume Hack

I did as following, went to 2 revisions and then installed headphones booster, and still same volumen, then tried 1 revision and still same volumen....
Is there anything i gotta keep in mind or is there an specific procedure for the X10?

Use DSP Manager. Set the EQ to (L-R) 4.0, 4.5, 5.5, 6.0, .55 for 'phone speaker'. Thats a good setting that boosts the full range and rarely distorts the highs/lows.

[Q] Audio Issues w/ DSP Manager?

Anyone else have issues using DSP Manager at high volumes? The issue happens when using the phone speaker or headphone jack (didn't test bluetooth) and setting volume to ~85% or higher. The resulting sound is a lot of high pitch squealing that I imagine would be similar to what you would hear with a decoder issue.
To replicate the issue:
1) Launch DSP Manager, choose Headset (if you choose headset, I wouldn't put your headphones on for this test...or if you're running a line out to a stereo receiver, turn your volume all the way down) or Phone Speaker and disable all effects or select Menu, Reset.
2) Play any mp3 or streaming audio (ie Slacker, Pandora), adjust the volume to be within 1-4 clicks of max.
3) Go back to DSP Manager, enable Equalizer, and then adjust the low frequency slider (leftmost slider) to be above 0.
4) At this point, the sound issue should be noticeable if you're experiencing the same issue I am.
If someone can please test this and confirm they have the same issue I would appreciate it. I didn't find any other reports of this issue, but if it's a known problem, can someone please point me in the right direction to resolve the issue? I've tried this on 4 different ROMs (I think they may all be Cyanogen based) and I have the same problem with all of them.
Thanks in advance for any input.
Sorry man I couldn't replicate it on Nonsensikal 8.8. Used Pandora, set volume to within 2 clicks of max, and set <100 hz to .2 .4 and .6. Didn't get any kind of squealing. This was on phone speaker. I have had weird DSP issues in the past though. Just didn't care enough to try it on all the froyo roms.

I have the same exact problem. I cant even move anything without it going crazy. im running CELBFROYO 2.9
Thanks for your feedback guys, I'm going to try out Nonsensikal 8.8, will report back later.
Edit: I tried Nonsensikal 8.8 and still had the audio issues. Did a little research and I thought maybe I was experiencing "clipping". I don't consider myself an audiophile so I wasn't really sure if this was an accurate diagnosis of my issue. This lead me down the path to try out the Mixzing app since it has a built in EQ. Since the Mixzing EQ only functions on audio thru the Mixzing player, it's not an end-all solution since I find myself pulling up Slacker when I want a change of pace from the mp3s I have on my SD card, and the Mixzing EQ does not function for streaming music.
Anyway, I found the EQ in Mixzing to be quite helpful as it appears to actually detect when clipping is occurring and notifies you by change the EQ bands to red. The clipping I experienced thru Mixzing is not comparable to what I hear when using DSPManager. The Mixzing clipping results in the audio cutting out for a given frequency range - for example when clipping occurs when a bass drum is playing, you don't hear the full range of sound of the bass drum, the low frequency is cut off. What's also noteworthy here is that thru Mixzing, I was able to rectify the clipping issue by simply re-adjusting the sliders to their previous positions and the sound output was corrected. Whereas with DSPManager, resetting the sliders didn't fully resolve the audio issue, I was still able to discern a high pitch whine especially during quiet portions of a song until either the song ended, or I disabled the EQ. If this were related to a clipping issue, I presume the squealing I hear would go away when I reset the sliders to their previous positions, since the squealing persists, I think it's probably a decoder issue.
Something else I learned here, perhaps already evident to other users, is that for each frequency band you adjust in Mixzing, it requires additional processor resources. This might explain why the Eris (not sure if this plagues other phones) struggles here. And on that note, I was using my Eris to test the waters and help me determine if it's worth rooting and dropping a custom ROM on my Incredible. Since this sounds like it can potentially be a resource issue, and I haven't found other users on different phones experiencing this issue, I guess I'll take the plunge and try a custom ROM on my Incredible.

[Q] Louder Volume Hack

Hi, which version of Louder Volume Hack works on Xperia X10 and if there is, How can I apply the codes into my phone .
thanks in advance
It doesn't. You have to install a custom kernel with that particular fix. Loud volume hack wont work on our phones and if u look at the description where you download it it says does not support Sony Ericsson phones. U could try dsp manager though

I have been looking for something to address the same issue. Which froyo or gingerbread roms that are fully working address the volume issue? Also, what is DSP manager, where can I get it, and how does it address the volume problem? Thanks!

dsp manager is a global equalizer for your phone.. its awesome.. made my x10 10x louder.. and in the case of headphones, i actually prefer listening music via x10 rather than my ipod after applying dsp manager.. lol..
you can download the apk from here
if the apk dosent work then try flashing the attached zip file via xrecovery..!!
but make sure you are on a froyo or a gingerbread rom cause it works only on 2.2 and above..

Start DSP manager and choose for example "phone speaker". Tick "Enabled" and raise the equalizers up. I think if you raise up the last 3 bars it will be just fine.
You can do the same for "Headset" and the "Bluetooth device".

Many thanks,
I finally made this work for me
Dsp is the best but I have a question, on a gingerbread rom, thinkin its rendeiro or rdannar's one but not trip, Ive found DSP manager with the bass boost option, since Ive turn it back my phone to froyo, using wolf's rom, DSP manager doesn't have the bass button, wondering if there is different versions of DSP Manager.
Btw im using wolf rom on bb55, stock kernel, x10a, 2.1.0.435 I think

Trying to search for other DSP versions, but couldn't find any other than v.1.0.
The best settings I found for volume/clarity with DSP Manager for the phone speaker is to set values (left to right) at 4.0, 4.5, 5.5, 6.0, 5.5 These setting boost the whole range but keep distortion down on the high and low.

I never set the first higher than two cost the bass distorts too much. The rest I set at 6 tho and it sounds fine. Maybe twice as loud as previously. At least I can hear my phone from my back pocket now lol

Same with me. I played some music on the player, same time i went to DSP and play with the bars. Last 3 up and the first two at about 2 was the best setting and sound clariry.
The settings of the "headset" is other thing though. The bass there is raised more.

DSPManager:Is it safe?

I use DSPManager to boost my speaker volume by sliding all the equalizer bars all the way up, and it gives a noticable boost in speaker volume.
My question is, is it safe? Will it blow out the speaker because of the increased volumes?
One of the biggest shortcomings of the X10 is the not so loud speaker, this fixes it, but not sure if it's safe.
Thanks for any help.
can't find it on the market, could you post the link here or pm me to it so i could try it out?
The DSP Manager is a fair safe software. Wolf even included it in some flavors of his amazing ROM and nobody complains about losing the speaker (none that I know of).
I use the DSP Manager whenever I want with no trouble at all.
On the other hand I do think you're right about avoiding excesses. The wisdom teach us to keep the balance and don't misuse equalizers and LED flashes.
In my opinion, the best way to listening music in the X10 is still the earphone.

Thanks, but I was thinking more along the lines of the increased volume will be used for the ringer, when the phone rings, because it's really soft right now and I can't hear it from the other side of my house. DSPManager fixes that. I do use headphones for my music. I'm just worried that too much ringing might damage the speaker because of the increased volume that comes thanks to DSPManager.

[Q] 30 Volume Steps Bug

Hello Everyone,
This is my first post in the Ace Sectio, Deal with it
I just rooted my phone, installed MIRACLE v4, installed Beats Audio...
and i have a problem...
If i watch a Commentary video (dont mind that with beats audio or without it) The Voice Commentary is Really Quiet, but the music is VERY LOUD! and i can't do anything with this, i think its the fault of the 30 Volume Steps, not of the video, cause on my PC and with other ROM its fine, and commentary isn't quiet... Oh and i installed DSP Manager too, but everything is the same
I'll link a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKJMljrIGuc&list=UUH-_hzb2ILSCo9ftVSnrCIQ&index=2&feature=plcp
Please Help me
Any Suggestions?
Don't change any setting on DSP..using Youtube app or some other streaming app?
And if you've a spare headphone, then try using that to check whether it's the headphone problem.
Using original YoutubeApp Downloaded from Play Store, Xperia x8 Headphones, so its not the problem of the headphones (Its working Quite Perfect on Other ROMS and even on other phones ) Did not set anything in Dsp manager, but i tried to set something, but it wasn't better...

At least check with another headphone will not hurt
if the problem persists undo the beats lib. or re-flash the ROM (no need to wipe if you're re-flashing on the same ROM,you won't get boot-loops) Can I know which beats did you flash? Several out here these days..
I tried 4 Types of B.Audio
And i just realized... The headphones aren't good to this phone, i have to buy a new one
Thanks for the help
And i just installed B.Audio, cause on maximum volume, it wont do weird sounds
maybe the beats audio mod is not compatible with DSP manager, like the case of SRS Trumedia mod?

[Q] GB - How to increase Speaker volume (editing in Rootexplorer, not with apks ON)?

Hey People.
How can i increase the volume of the speaker? Safely and without distortion, by Editing and not with apps running on the phone all the time.
It's like these, i'm using Gingersony v06 ( yes i got back to Gingersony after 3 days of being on the Original Stock Eclair, that Blue color on all the Stock Eclair is very annoying :S ), and people tell me that they can't hear me clearly when we are in a Call, and i don't hear people as well ( at least not loud enough ).
So that's why i wanted to increase the volume in order to hear loud and for the others to hear me loud 2.
Good answers will always get a Thanks press button
Ps: just an add, if someone knows how to get better audio quality as well ( because when hearing music, i can hardly hear clear the vocals ) then please tell me

I don't see the download anywhere in that thread, and it says it's for Mini, mine is Mini Pro, will it work?
But by the name 'Beats', i guess that must be the Xloud+Beats thing.
I used that thing some time ago but in that time i didn't see any change in the sound at all, but maybe i had a wrong version of it, because some players didn't work with that installed.
You know where i can get the fully working version?
Ps: that beats mod, did it change your sound quality at the point that you can hear the vocals clearly when playing music?, because it's a bit annoying to hear great/loud Instruments and then the voice looks like it's far away from the song :S xD

Try DSP-Manager with eq 'vocal boost' preset enabled, or play around with the viper4android APP (the best sound quality/loudness enhancer APP in my opinion ).

Dsp Manager i personally don't like it because for me it's the same thing as an Normal equalizer, i tried all presets and effects but there's always something wrong, if using effects for more vocals then the sound will loose Power 'instruments will sound with much less power, not very good to hear' to obtain that, about the viper4android i don't know if it's good 'i only used it once in your rom but with a bug of stoping/starting music so i quit' but maybe i'll make another try, sincerely i don't think there's a solution for the vocal problem on the songs without changing the sound itself or having Less Power
