should be in q and a....but
do u want to remove cwr altogether or just go to a different version

Remove it altogether so I can start over

if you are just putting a new version on then there is no reason to remove the old one. The new one will replace the old one

I just did it myself, this morning, so I could install a theme. It seems like we're getting a little bit ahead of ourselves using 3.0, if it doesn't install themes.

going forward i know personally ive moved to edify for my themes...since its backwards compatible with 2.5 anyway...it solves the having 2 different versions for those that are on 3.0 vs 2.5

You have to pull out the battery to odin. Try holding volume down with no battery in and connect cable while holding it.

Can't flash ROMs no matter what i do

Im coming from 2.3.2 - XWJV1 [Gingerbread on Vibrant], after ODIN, and when i wanted to flash the latest Bionix i got an error
E: Can't symlink /system/bin/su
E: Failure at line 16:
symlink /system/xbin/su SYSTEM.bin/su
Installation Aborted.
every time i get this, i have to do another ODIN because it just does a loop in the android system recovery and will not get out, so i had to ODIN 3 times.
now when i try to flash a ROM it just keeps replacing stock recovery with clockwork mod recovery, i do the usual steps to install a ROM and it just does a loop. i tried different clockwork flash versions and either it wont let me install the older ones or the only 2 versions that work have loop problems.
HOW DO I FIX THIS, IM SO STRESSED OUT, THIS IS UNNECESSARY!
after doing install rom from sd option, i was able to get out of the loop but i got
E: Can't symlink /system/bin/su
E: Failure at line 16:
symlink /system/xbin/su SYSTEM.bin/su
Installation Aborted.
i still cant flash anything and i already tried eugenes files.
got into clockwork but when i put install files from sd card > choose from sd then it when i choose update.zip it just goes back to the android system recovery.
then i put reinstall files from the android system recovery and it just sends me back to clockwork recovery...
Try a diff. tar for when you Odin, you may have a corrupt file. Have you try Eugen JK2 tar file, prerooted?
Are you clicking reinstall packages?
Are you going through clockwork or rom manager?
Did you install the root update zip to reroot?

Ok I just went through this less than a month ago with my captivate. I have a twenty page topic on this EXACT issue. I had all the major devs pming me and doing everything under the sun for probably a total of thirty hours. Result - NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO FIX THIS. This issue is not specific to our phones, there have been cases of this on almost every android phone. Your gonna get people telling you to do all this elementary trouble shooting...the problem is far too deep dont waste your time. You can flash back to stock with every tar and pit file this side of samsung...not gonna work. SOMETHING is not getting wiped. Save yourself the time and sell the phone to someone who will not use custom roms.
Also no rm/wipe command through abd is gonna help either! Sorry just telling you from someone who experienced this hell. Also every thread in existence on the internet on this subject has died out without an answer. If you read for enough hours you will find out the hard way! Good luck my friend!

Custom recovery is never going to stick now. Every reboot now it is gonna be gone...dont know why but from my research, it is permanent.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Are you able to re install the original rom? I and many others with this issue had that unique problem of being able to install ONLY the rom that was running before everything went to hell. There lies the key I believe to all of this. What makes only one work.

LMAO!!! I understand that your frustrated but there is no need to blame other members. There is always a risk flashing a rom. If you are not willing to accept the risk then you shouldn't be flashing roms at all. Whitehawkx has helped many people in the vibrant community and its not his fault if YOU decide to flash his rom and don't know what your doing. You wont get much help around here with that attitude. My fascinate wont boot to recovery

I cant seem to boot into recovery by holding both volume buttons and pressing power. I can get into it with "adb reboot recovery", or with quick boot or rom manager (but i current dont have root, so thats not an option).
But when i just try to turn the phone off and boot into recovery manually it just boots into android every time.
Try holding all three buttons until the sammy logo appears. Then release power button only.
Edit: Also try volume up ( or down...can't remember) , power, and home soft key.
And you prolly shoulda posted this in q&a section bud. Try to keep the forums clean and less cluttered.

Im at stock right now, no root at all. I had a semi-brick and had to odin stock DI01 all in one and then use the OTA to go to ea28. I then used odin to flash the DL05/DL09 recovery file. but i dont have root so i cant boot to recovery from the OS and i cant just manually go into it (at least it hasnt worked so far). The only way i can get into recovery is to issue "adb reboot recovery", but the OS has to be booted to use adb, and from my understanding you cant go into the OS before flashing the update zip. When i tried it failed about halfway through.
There is a all in one pack for odin on adroidcentral.com that has the corrwct clockwork recovery, is prerooted, and is froyo with superclean. Id go with that bud.

I've never pulled battery and haven't ever had issues installing recoveries through Odin. But it wouldn't hurt trying. Out of curiosity, what exactly does it say at the top when you boot into recovery?
Edit: just remembered that if you upgraded to ICS through via OTA, the system reverts back to stock recovery due to code that is imbedded in the ota version of the update. But this code does not exist in the update provided through Kies (what i used). This explains my not needing to do a battery pull during reboot.

As I stated "I just remembered". Confirming your post. So nothing new learned for me lol. It's why I explained why a battery pull may be necessary IF the update was through OTA. If he went through kies, its due to some other reasons. Always best not to make assumptions that's why I asked the questions I did.

[Q] LiquidSmooth 3.1 for i717 Won't boot. Help?

Hello, I have an i717 and I'm having an extremely annoying issue with LiquidSmooth 3.1. So basically, after the first boot/setup, it runs perfectly fine. Beautifully. But if I turn it off, it won't load the OS when I turn it on again. It'll sit on a black screen for several hours. I've tried reinstalling this ROM about 5 times and had the same issue each time.
Anyone having the same issue, or know a fix?

Just restarted the phone, booted after the 12th time.
LS goes through the bootanimation twice so it will look like its boot looping. Plus it does seem to take a while to boot into the os, just gotta be patient with the ROM on initial boot.

Oh yeah....if you are flashing CM 10 with it wow. That is quite an older version and LS 3.1 is kit kat. CM 10 is the equivalent of JB so your bouncing back and forth and the up to date recoveries were designed to handle KK.
go to development and find the TWRP thread from "GIMMIEORILLTELL". it is TWRP version 2.8.0.1 ???
TWRP is a touch based recover which is sooooooo simple to use. No more toggle of the volume rocker.
Download and flash like you would any rom.
Once flashed, boot up whatever or pull battery and replace.
Boot back into recovery and it will be there.

Download and flash like you would any rom.
Once flashed, boot up whatever or pull battery and replace.
Boot back into recovery and it will be there.

I'll surely give it a try, but not at this ungodly hour. I'll be without a phone for the day, but oh well.

Oh yeah....if you are flashing CM 10 with it wow. That is quite an older version and LS 3.1 is kit kat. CM 10 is the equivalent of JB so your bouncing back and forth and the up to date recoveries were designed to handle KK.

I selected the Zip using CWM, and told it to flash it. It successfully flashed, replacing the recovery.img. Then I reboot, and it bricked. Keeps flashing the samsung logo, pressing the recovery buttons (volume up+ power) does nothing. There's nothing I can do. It's dead.

Could be a stuck power button my friend. Flick the back of the phone behind the power button with your finger.
Dont be shy, but done break your finger either.
Very common problem.
Pull battery. Can you get download mode?
Unless you flashed files for the wrong device, I don't think you are bricked.
If you can get download mode, you are not bricked.
What file did you flash?

I fixed her. All I did was install Odin, and reinstall the stock ROM (md5 file). Also just rooted it with a new verision of CWM.
I want to thank you for your patience.

We were getting close to that option. Every once in a while, and I have had to do it recently, we have to return to stock. Basically it takes out all the garbage that has accumulated, even though our process is clean.
I couldn't get anything to flash, not even an alternate recovery. Went back to complete stock, Re root and Bob is your uncle. (that means everything as good as new).
Glad your fixed. Dont let it detour you from flashing. It's a lot of fun. Keeps me off the streets.
