You could try to run WINE and then try the flashtool
or u can get a executable jar file !?!
Tried with wine but couldn't get it to install the driver so when I plugged in the phone it wasn't recognised. Any ideas?

No.You should install sony suite first-that should set up drivers. Then do what the other guy said about flashtool.
But I have everything set up fir my phone, and when I connect it,it occasionally says "installing drivers",so christ knows......

Hi,
I am trying to use my SK17i as a dial up modem to use the GPRS connection active on my postpaid plan. however i havent been able to find the relevant driver for the same. Installed PC companion but it has been of no help.
Please provide me the link of the driver for the same or suggest me any means through which i can use it as a modem.
thanks, in advance

That is for native android tethering. PCC should work on Windows XP for Sony Ericsson dial up modem.

I can't find any function in PC Companion for that, according to me there is no option for Android phones in newest PCC anyway, as Android already includes that.

I used the PCC included with my X8 and use it with a remote PC wearing windows xp. I had to keep USB debugging on. Well, that's an old story now I have Windows 7 & 8.
To OP, try PDAnet or similar to work
Thanks all for your replies ... i believe the usb tethering is possible with win XP, as when i turn it on, windows xp detects a new hardware. however since the driver is not available the modem cannot be installed.
with win7 its just a breeze...!
That's the thing, there are no proper drivers for Windows XP.

Have you installed Kies? Might help if you do not have that software to start. Although you should not 'need' it.
either install kies in your pc or samsung usb drivers in your pc. Now connect the mobile, it will be detected. you can also let the windows to install drivers using windows update

make sure u use latest version of flashtool, it should have fixed issues with windows 8. if it wont work try reinstall you device using Sony Ericson Update Service ( SEUS) or PC Companion. --- but Im not sure if they work on windows 8 too.
