[think tank] Modified Flash for Vibrant

I know this idea may have already been posted in a number of different ways, but I just wanted to start an official "think tank" for devs to port flash 10.1 to android 2.1 for the vibrant, if they were so inclined. I know it exists for htc phones on 2.1 already, so I can't imagine it would be an impossible task, but then again I'm not a dev (and a n00b at that). Anyways, feel free to brainstorm ideas, I'm just interested in hearing what people have to say .

[Q] Developing Roms

Whats the best starting point to learn how to develop a rom. I'm a fast learner and wanted to start a new hobby and I love anything tech related
I'm not trying to sound like an ass but Google is your best friend. All kinds of info, guides, and videos out there. I found a lot when I was reading up on it.

We got a million threads on this.
The chef central on XDA is also a good resource.

Anywhere else to get kernels?

Does anyone know where I can get more kernels for our phone? I haven't seen a lot around here and don't know which to use? Thoughts?
I have tried all of the main ones posted in dev section

Could search Google? You'd be suprised at how many other ROM's, mods, apps, etc... that you can find. I stumbled upon GTA3 Free one time. Was an excellent find. Lots of people usually just stick with one source. I used to be all over the place until I found XDA.

Pretty bad with computers, toaster ovens

and technology in general so I was gonna pay the twenty or thirty dollars to have one of the people that advertise in these forums do root my phone. Any longtime members have any feedback? Or recommendations there was at least two groups advertising in the rooting xdaforum last night...thank you.

Don't. I don't know a heck of a lot about your phone but I've seen this stuff go around and often you are wasting money
Of course this is just my opinion and take it how you'd like, but I know it can't be to hard to follow directions for most everyone and I'm sure there is clearly written guides to do so. Just go to your phones forum and seek a guide and read up. Ask for advice when this fails
And again just my opinion here but if you can't root your own device chances are it shouldn't have root access. What I mean by this is that you will have a greater chance of bricking down the road if you don't learn how to do things yourself, I see it all the time, so do yourself a favor and learn about your phone before it becomes anything more than stock, or else you have a high chance of having it be nothing more than an expensive brick
Feel free to ask more questions and I'll do my best to help, also feel free to tell me to mind my own business, either way...

Hell.,I need you in business brah. I found it to be solid advice and what I thought was the smartest route anyway. The learn about your phone argument is the truth. It's like Yoda, then you, then the Dalai Lama. I appreciate your wise words and will now trek down the path less taken for me. Wish me luck brother. And thank you!
PS any good video instructionals on YouTube you recommend over others.Little more of a visual learner ya know...long lists of written directions gives my ADHD the ****in fits! Thanks again.

Thanks, I'd be willing to send you a video link but not sure your phone, HTC one?
I'd just go to you phones forum and look for the stickies in either general or dev section, should be all the info needed to root and often a link to a YouTube video if its complicated

Hey thanks again it is the ATT HTC One. It's pretty much out the box. Just a ton of pics and apps added.

To be honest. If you dont can root your phone than you maybe let it be. I mean: with root you can kill (brick) your phone if you dont know what youre doing. If you do it yourself (maybe with some guidance) you will be willing to learn and search so it will be easier for you.

Please Create Carrier Specific LG G2 Threads.

Right now we only have carrier specific threads for development. While those are needed and appreciated I am finding it extremely difficult to learn or locate carrier specific information on xda. The threads for general, Q&A, accessories, and themes are crossing over each other and its like wading thru a swamp of information. I am personally on sprint and I have found myself ending up in threads that have nothing to do with sprint hoping to find fixes or ideas that dont even apply to my model. Frankly, its very frustrating. I can from the photon, and my wife has the htc one. I have used xda for those models in the past, and still do, and can find informatikn specific to my carrier easily.
Can I use search? Sure I worked in the web search industry for over a decade but that doesnt help if I can choose a specific category (that category in this case being sprint). So searching for info in the lg g2 threads as they are now is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I know there are other people who must feel the same as I do about this. Id simply like my experience in the lg g2 forums to be as good as it is in other places on xda. I dont know why the g2 forums were set up like this, but frankly its a nightmare content wise. It would also help development further by breaking out info carrier by carrier.
Mods, we need carrier specific forums for the g2. Please add yourself to this post of you feel the same way. Those that dont can start a different thread to leave things the same as they are now. This if for those that feel doing this would improve their g2 experience on xda.
Blame LG for this fragmentation nightmare. ...never and i mean never had there been so many variants. ...its sickening

Not really. There's a specific GS3 forum for each variant, and other Samsung devices. XDA probably doesn't realize LG has a decent size customer base that use these forums so they don't give them the attention they deserve.
Theres fragmentation with every device specific to each carrier to one extent or another. Im not talking about throwing blame for this reason or that reason. However, I do want people to speak up on this so that XDA will address and fix the LG G2 forums. I spent time in the htc one forums for my wifes phone tonight and because its sprint specific I found what I needed in minutes. I cannot do that with the LG side of XDA. Its a mess. I dont know how developers can even follow things enough to help anyone or keep track of things.
This disorganizatikn gives me a new level of respect for them and the craziness they deal with to help the average schmoe like me.
Please this is much needed, all Samsung devices and other as well have carrier specific threads. LG G2 section is a huge mess.

Well us 803's and 805's don't even have a section. So just be happy you have a carrier section.

Exactly! I would love an 803 section.

You should have included a poll so the mods can have some numbers to look at to see how many people would like it split into carrier specific threads.
I didnt think about a poll, but Im hoping that people will take the time to chime in here if nothing else just to show support for the idea by saying "Yes, I want to have carrier specific threads as well!"
Poll created. Please add you vote!
I'd love to have a specific section for the vzw g2. It'd make it so much easier to find things and be able to post problems/questions specifically about the Verizon version.

This is an absolute must. For a site of this size to not organize its forums better is just a shame.

I agree 100% with the OP, threads are needed for each variant to make it easier for all involved. Vote Yes

Seems like Sprint has a large user base here. Didn't think this device was that popular on Sprint. It's actually nice to see more users on Sprint.
I'll add my +1 here but we may have to go to the dedicated forum request thread and post there.

I already said this in a thread that got deleted... but, and no offense to anyone, but I'm personally sick of weeding through the broken English posts on here. I'd really like a Verizon specific forum, like Android central does. I've never dealt with a phone that was combined like this, and some of these posts just make me cringe lol
